Summer, Summer Time!

July in Henderson always feels like pure summertime magic. We live for summer here in the Bown house since our life revolves around the school calendar with my husband’s job as a professor and coach. The days feel a little longer, a little lighter, and a little slower in the best possible way. I’m convinced there’s very little on earth better than a pool day spent with family and friends, surrounded by the smell of sunscreen and the barbecue grill. I hope this issue finds you lounging on a pool floatie with an ice-cold beverage in hand!

Exploration doesn’t always require a passport or a plane ticket—sometimes it’s trying a new restaurant, attending a local event, or supporting a neighborhood business. Henderson continues to grow in so many exciting ways, and as a super fan of our city, one of my favorite parts of publishing this magazine is meeting the incredible people in our community and connecting you all to the stories that make Henderson so special.

In this month’s explore-themed issue, we’re celebrating exploration in all forms. From hidden local gems and favorite summer escapes to businesses helping our community thrive, ways to prioritize your health, ideas for preparing your littles for preschool season, and the excitement surrounding the newest addition to sports in our city with our very own A’s baseball team—this issue is filled with inspiration for the season ahead.

For me, summer is always a reminder to slow down, be present, and enjoy the little things in life. Whether you’re discovering a new favorite spot, meeting new people, or creating lasting summer memories, I hope these stories encourage you to make the most of the season.

Thank you, as always, for reading along with us and supporting the local businesses, organizations, and neighbors who help make Henderson such an incredible place to live, work, and explore.

Wishing you an awesome summer!

EXPLORING WITH THE A’S

Las Vegas prepares to discover baseball, community, and a new hometown experience

For locals, exploring often means finding the heart of our community in the places we gather, hiking in Red Rock Canyon, or taking a jaunt to Lake Mead. As we look toward the future of the Valley, a new hometown experience is worth exploring—one that promises to bridge the gap between

“A true hometown team is defined by its commitment to the community long before the first pitch is thrown.”

professional sports and the local lifestyle we value.

The arrival of the A’s represents a unique discovery guide for Southern Nevada, focusing on community roots and a social atmosphere that feels like home.

EXPLORING A BALLPARK BUILT FOR LOCALS

While the new stadium will undoubtedly be a landmark on the Strip, the design philosophy goes far beyond the aesthetic of a tourist attraction. For Catherine Aker, Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing, the priority is how the park serves the people who live here year-round.

“When people see the renderings, they first notice the design, but what is just as important is how the ballpark will feel,” Catherine explains. “We want it to reflect Las Vegas in an authentic way. That means creating spaces that are social, energetic, and

connected to the lifestyle people here already enjoy, from premium hospitality to local food, art, music, and community-driven programming.”

To help fans truly visualize this future, the A’s debuted the Ballpark Experience Center at UnCommons. At the heart of this space is the Immersive Cube™, a 270° wrap-around digital environment that allows visitors to tangibly step inside the vision for the Las Vegas ballpark before it is even built. Within this 3,500-cubic-foot storytelling space, 26.5 million pixels bring the stadium to life, turning walls, floors, and ceilings into a seamless canvas of motion. It offers a way to explore the future firsthand, allowing guests to walk through the new development and see how it links to the city in vivid 3D.

The exploration continues with a full architectural model of the future ballpark to provide a realistic preview of seating and fan zones.

THE PLAYER’S GUIDE

As the team prepares for its transition, players like outfielder Brent Rooker are already discovering a genuine connection with the local community. When viewing the models of his future workplace, Brent notes, “The stadium looks beautiful and as state-of-the-art as it can get.”

Fans can experience that atmosphere today at the Ballpark Experience Center through interactive exhibits like the Batter’s Box, where tapping a bat on a plate activates historic reels. Visitors can also explore a “Batter Up” wall featuring 48 custom bats representing the ballpark’s hospitality suites, or take interactive suite tours where they control their own view without needing a VR headset.

“It’s easy to imagine it becoming one of the best places in the league to play,” Brent says. “We can’t wait to develop a fan base and sell it out night after night.” This local excitement is already tangible; as Brent shares, “We’ve been to a couple Knights games, and it’s been really cool to see how much people love their local teams and how excited everyone is for us to add another team to the community.”

INVESTING IN THE NEXT GENERATION

A true hometown team is defined by its commitment to the community long before the first pitch is thrown. The A’s have already begun exploring ways to support the families and young athletes who call the Valley home.

“Community impact has to start long before Opening Day, and that work is already underway,” says Catherine. This engagement is already happening through festivals, school outreach, and youth programs across Southern Nevada. For families, this means they are getting more than just a new stadium to visit; it means a new partner in the community.

The Experience Center brings this partnership to life for the next generation of fans. Young visitors can enjoy fun photo opportunities with a 6-foot-5-inch giant bobblehead or interact with a digital vending machine that dispenses custom A’s baseballs. This spirit of discovery is powered by Advent’s XMS system, which enables adaptive, audience-driven storytelling. Families can even use the technology to chart their future trips to the ballpark, plotting average travel times by road and air.

“The goal is for fans to explore a space that feels like a true community destination rather than just a sports venue, designed specifically to celebrate the local Southern Nevada spirit.”

DISCOVERING A SHARED FUTURE

The A’s clubhouse itself reflects a culture that many Vegas locals will find familiar—a group of people who genuinely enjoy working together. Brent describes the vibe as “a bunch of guys who really like each other and enjoy being around each other,” noting that their “fun style of play reflects that.”

As the team and the city grow closer, the opportunity to explore this new relationship will only expand. At the Experience Center, fans can leave their own mark by signing a display wall featuring over 300 A’s baseball cards, serving as

an homage to their visit. By effortlessly jumping between the past—like the 1989 World Series win—and the future of the Las Vegas era, the A’s are ensuring that every visitor feels seen and engaged in the team’s next chapter.

“We want families to feel connected to this team from the very beginning,” Catherine emphasizes. As we look toward the future, the Valley isn’t just gaining a professional baseball team; it is gaining a new way for neighbors to connect, play, and explore new ways to engage together as a community.

PEACE OF MIND STARTS HERE

Ready, Set, Preschool

Expert tips for helping children confidently begin their preschool journey

Preparing for preschool is an exciting milestone for both children and parents. From emotional readiness to building independence, the transition into a classroom environment can feel overwhelming at first. According to Jennifer Sullivan, Director of Coronado Prep Preschool, “Preschool is about so much more than academics. It is where children begin building confidence, friendships, independence, communication skills, and a love for learning.”

Social & Emotional Preparation

Starting preschool is a change that often brings big emotions for young children, especially when separating from parents for the first time. Jennifer recommends gradually introducing short separations and social opportunities before school begins. Playdates, library story times, and recreation classes can help children practice sharing, interacting with peers, and building confidence independently. “Emotional readiness does not mean children never cry,” Jennifer explains. “It means they are learning to feel safe, build trust, and manage their big emotions.” Maintaining a positive attitude about school also aids in children feeling more secure during the transition. “When parents seem apprehensive, children pick up on that,” Jennifer notes. “It’s important to talk positively about preschool ahead of time.”

Routines & Schedules

Creating predictable routines at home can make preschool feel less intimidating once classes begin. Jennifer says young children thrive with structure because it helps them feel confident and secure throughout the day. Families can begin preparing by adjusting bedtimes, mealtimes, and morning schedules before the first day of school. Establishing consistency early allows children to better understand expectations and adapt more comfortably to classroom routines. “Predictability builds confidence and security for young children,” Sullivan says. Simple routines at home can make a major difference when preschool begins.

Independence Skills

Preschool is oftentimes the first environment where children are encouraged to complete tasks independently. Jennifer says practicing small responsibilities at home can help children feel more capable and confident in the classroom. Skills such as putting on jackets, washing hands, using utensils, cleaning up toys, and following simple directions all support kindergarten readiness. Parents can encourage independence by allowing children to attempt tasks on their own before immediately stepping in to help. “Preschool teachers are there to support children and assist them in becoming more independent,” Jennifer says. Building confidence through everyday tasks helps children transition more smoothly into preschool life.

Learning & Curiosity

Children naturally learn through exploration, creativity, and conversation. Jennifer encourages parents to focus less on memorization and more on nurturing curiosity before preschool begins. Reading together, singing songs, exploring outdoors, cooking, and engaging in imaginative play all help children develop communication and problem-solving skills. “There is no one way or right way to learn,” Jennifer says. Encouraging curiosity at home helps children develop confidence and excitement for building a lifelong foundation for learning. Most importantly, Jennifer reminds parents that every child adjusts differently and that patience and consistency are key throughout the preschool transition—an approach reflected at Coronado Prep Preschool. “When families and teachers work together as partners, children are given the best opportunity to thrive during this exciting new chapter.”

BREATHof CLARITY

Exploring pulmonary health with Dr. Kevin Tsui

Health concerns can often feel overwhelming and uncertain. Finding clarity, especially when it comes to something as vital as breathing, can be life changing. For Dr. Kevin Tsui, pulmonary specialist and founder of Henderson Pulmonology, that clarity is not just a goal, it’s a responsibility.

“My job is to help people understand what’s happening in their body,” Dr. Tsui says. “When patients walk in, they’re often anxious, confused, or unsure. My goal is to give them clarity, a plan, and peace of mind.”

He adds, “Breathing is something we take for granted, until we can’t. That’s when everything changes.”

Dr. Tsui’s path to Las Vegas was not something he originally planned. Born and raised in the Bay Area, he attended medical school in California and initially envisioned a different trajectory. But in 2008, what he calls “the best mistake that ever happened” brought him to Las Vegas, a move that would ultimately shape his career and purpose.

“I was only supposed to be here for a year,” Dr. Tsui recalls. “But opportunities kept presenting themselves, and I couldn’t say no.”

From internal medicine residency to becoming chief resident and later helping establish Nevada’s first pulmonary and critical care fellowship, Dr. Tsui’s journey has been one of growth, mentorship, and dedication. Over the years, he also became ICU Medical Director at Spring Valley Hospital, building more than a decade of experience caring for critically ill patients.

Despite his success in hospital systems, Dr. Tsui felt something was missing. In 2024, he made the decision to step away from a traditional group practice and open his own clinic, Henderson Pulmonology.

“I never thought I wanted to be a business owner,” Dr. Tsui admits. “But I saw how patients were being treated, and I knew that wasn’t how I wanted to practice medicine.”

That realization became the foundation of his clinic: a space where patients are not rushed, where listening comes first, and where care is deeply personal.

Unlike many practices that move quickly through appointments, Dr. Tsui intentionally schedules longer visits. “Time is the most important thing,” he says. “You can’t practice good, safe medicine if you’re rushing through patients. People deserve to feel heard.”

Pulmonary conditions, from asthma and COPD to unexplained shortness of breath, are often complex and deeply personal. Symptoms can be subtle, chronic, or easily dismissed. Dr. Tsui encourages patients to explore those symptoms rather than ignore them.

“Don’t just chalk it up to age or assume that’s the way it’s supposed to be,” he explains. “If something feels off, it’s worth exploring. There are things we can do to help.”

For him, the process begins with listening. “Most diagnoses come from the history, just listening to the patient and understanding their symptoms,” he says. “If you don’t take the time to listen, you miss the story.”

“My goal is to give them clarity, a plan, and peace of mind.”

That philosophy shapes every interaction in his clinic. Patients aren’t just seen, they’re heard. Conversations are unhurried, collaborative, and rooted in trust. “It’s almost like two friends just sitting and talking,” he says. “Our goal is clarity, vision, and a plan.”

While his approach is grounded in human connection, Dr. Tsui is equally committed to staying at the forefront of medical advancements. Pulmonary medicine continues to evolve rapidly, particularly in areas like biologics, immunotherapy, and treatments for chronic conditions and lung cancer.

“We’re seeing new pathways and treatments that give us more options than ever before,” Dr. Tsui says. “It’s exciting, and it gives patients hope. Medicine is always evolving, and we have to evolve with it.” Still, he emphasizes that technology alone isn’t enough. The real difference lies in how care is delivered and how patients feel throughout the process.

Beyond practicing medicine, Dr. Tsui is a husband, father, and leader in his field, roles that require constant balance and resilience. When asked how he manages it all, his answer is simple and grounded: “You just do it,” Dr. Tsui says. “It’s what was ingrained in me growing up, take care of people and take care of your family.”

In a time when healthcare can often feel rushed and impersonal, Dr. Kevin Tsui offers something rare: time, understanding, and clarity. Through his practice, patients are given the opportunity to explore their symptoms, ask questions, and feel truly seen in their care. Because at the end of the day, breathing is something we often take for granted, until it becomes difficult. And in those moments, having someone who can guide you with both expertise and compassion makes all the difference.

For Dr. Tsui, that mission is clear: helping every patient not just breathe, but breathe with confidence, understanding, and peace of mind.

“Most diagnoses come from the history, just listening to the patient and understanding their symptoms. If you don’t take the time to listen, you miss the story.”

PASO ROBLES: HIGH ALTITUDES AND NEON ANTIDOTES

TRADE THE LAS VEGAS STRIP FOR THE SILKEN TANNINS OF DAOU MOUNTAIN AND THE IMMERSIVE, GLOWING VALLEYS OF SENSORIO

BY DAOU VINEYARDS

The transition from the dry heat of the Mojave to the cooling Pacific breezes of the Central Coast is a physical reset. For those accustomed to the relentless pulse of Las Vegas, Paso Robles offers a different kind of intensity—one found in the deep purple of a cabernet glass and the rhythmic glow of a thousand fiber-optic blooms. This is peaceful luxury defined not by excess, but by its sensory details. Our exploration began at the pinnacle of the Adelaida District. To arrive at DAOU Mountain is to leave the world behind. The air is sharper, the views are wider, and the hospitality is as polished as the wines.

“At 2,200 feet above Paso Robles, DAOU Mountain pairs sweeping vineyard views, impeccable hospitality, and world-class Cabernet with a profound sense of calm.”

“The moment I always hope guests remember is the first feeling they experience upon arriving at the top of DAOU Mountain,” says Laura Reynolds, DAOU Brand Ambassador. “At 2,200 feet, DAOU Mountain is the highest elevation estate in Paso Robles’ Adelaida District, with sweeping vineyard views, fresh mountain air, and cooling breezes from the Pacific and Templeton Gap. There is a sense of calm and beauty here that guests feel almost immediately.”

The service on the mountain is truly impeccable, delivered by a team that makes the experience feel both elevated

and deeply personal. From the knowledgeable guidance of our host, Will, whose French accent added an authentic charm to the flawless tasting, to the seamless hospitality by Marino, the ambiance was extraordinary. This warmth is a signature of the DAOU family spirit, ensuring every guest feels genuinely welcomed and connected to the estate.

This spirit extends into a world-class culinary program that rivals the beauty of the views. The culinary pairing experience artfully unites the estate’s reserve and estate wines with seasonally inspired fare, including a mezze platter and

estate royal white sturgeon caviar alongside artisanal cheese and charcuterie. Highlights include a spiny lobster roll on brioche, Niman Ranch lamb chops with a spiced pomegranate molasses, and a New York steak paired with the flagship Soul of a Lion.

Sipping this crown jewel while overlooking the steep, calcareous slopes provides an immediate connection to the craft. Named in tribute to the Daou brothers’ father, the wine honors the passion and “enduring conviction behind the dream to craft world-class cabernet sauvignon from Paso Robles,”

“More than 100,000 glowing fiber-optic spheres transform Sensorio’s rolling hills into an immersive dreamscape of light, movement, music, and reflection.”

as Laura notes. It is a true expression of the Mountain’s power and elegance.

As night fell, we descended into the valley for a different kind of exploration: Sensorio, a massive, 35-acre permanent outdoor art venue where whimsical landscapes blend with local music and, yes, more wine. Featuring over 100,000 fiber-optic spheres, the installation transforms the rolling hills into a glowing, immersive symphony that feels wonderfully Seussian. This organic wonderland of light offers a playful contrast to the rigid neon of the Strip, encouraging visitors to wander through a landscape that feels like a dreamscape come to life.

Sensorio is a “playground for the mind,” an immersive art destination that feels like an organic extension of the rolling hills. Ryan Hopple, General Manager of Sensorio, notes that the landscape was specifically chosen to encourage this interaction: “The natural contours of the landscape invite movement and discovery, while the expansive Central Coast skies, sunsets, and open environment create a sense of calm and reflection. The setting

allows guests to engage with the artwork in a deeply personal way, whether they’re exploring the pathways, relaxing beneath the stars, or simply taking in the connection between light, nature, and space.”

For a visitor coming from the neonsoaked streets of Nevada, Sensorio acts as a meditative palate cleanser. It’s not about the flash of a billboard; it’s about the slow pulse of color against a dark sky.

Ryan explains, “Unlike the fast-paced intensity often associated with urban environments, Sensorio was created as a place where art, technology, and nature come together in a peaceful rural setting. Guests are invited to slow down, wander through the exhibits, listen to live music, enjoy the Central Coast air, and experience light in a way that feels calming, emotional, and meditative. It’s less about sensory overload and more about connection.”

Between the high-altitude hospitality of the mountain and the quiet wonder of the light fields, Paso Robles proves itself as the ultimate retreat for the senses. It is a place where every glass tells a story and every path leads to a new discovery.

The 10% Target Mindset

Jen Cohen ON THE PRACTICE OF ASKING FOR WHAT YOU WANT

Winnipeg in the winter, and a 17-year-old waits 45 minutes in the cold for Keanu Reeves. Her fingers are numb. She is not there for an autograph. She is there to ask him to appear in her audition tape for MuchMusic, Canada’s MTV. When he finally agrees, she writes her number on a gum wrapper with a borrowed lip liner.

He calls days later.

That 17-year-old was Jen Cohen — fitness expert, host of the Habits & Hustle podcast, and best-selling author. She has built a career on the premise her frostbitten afternoon proved. She calls the practice the 10% Target: 10 attempts at whatever you want most in life.

The premise is simple. Most people never make one attempt. Almost nobody makes two. The math works in favor of the person who keeps going.

The top-rated Habits & Hustle podcast has logged hundreds of conversations with high performers and the people who study what the body does to the mind. Her TEDx talk, The Secret to Getting Anything You Want in Life, has traveled widely inside Fortune 500 sales-training rooms. On the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Cohen sits down to share the working rules that are the foundation of her latest book, Bigger, Better, Bolder.

“You have to be the CEO of your own life.”

1 2

MAKE TEN ATTEMPTS

The door opens, or another door does. The unmade attempt and the refused one leave you in the same place — except one of them teaches you something.

STACK THE DECK

Cohen frames her habits as a wager: How do I stack the deck so I win more than I lose? The workout happens first, and the food decisions follow. The email follow-up gets sent, and the answer arrives. The choices compound in a single direction.

3

DISCIPLINE IS A PRACTICED SKILL, NOT AN INHERITANCE

No one is born with it. The people who look disciplined are running a routine they have rehearsed long enough that it no longer feels like effort. The reps are the skill. Miss them, and the skill fades, the same as any other.

4

SELF-TALK ONLY WORKS WHEN THE BODY BACKS IT UP

Confidence does not arrive by repeating the word. It arrives after the body has done the thing — the workout finished, the cold walk endured, the email sent. The mind takes its cues from what the body proves it can do. Talk follows action, not the other way around.

5

NEVER MISS A MONDAY

The first decision sets the slope of the rest. Skip the Monday workout, and the rest of the week tends to follow. Hold the line on Monday, and the slope tilts the other way.
