Greetings, Our Dear Reader!

I hope this letter finds you in high spirits and full of creative energy. I would like to introduce myself. For the past two years, my husband, Everett, has been the sole face of the magazine. As our publications continue to grow and expand, he has invited me to join Henderson City Lifestyle as the co-publisher. I am thrilled to be a part of this successful community and keep bringing you wonderful content and local businesses that can inspire and uplift you.

This September issue has been created to celebrate and explore the fascinating world of style. Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style permeates every facet of our existence. It is the thread that weaves together the tapestry of our lives.

Style is deeply personal. And it evolves as we celebrate our quirks, our passions, and our desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world, and what we value. The evolution of workwear and the world of work for women has undergone significant changes in recent years. Diversity in workwear, remote work, and the consequences of the pandemic have impacted how we are showing up at work today. Let me share with you some key ways in which workwear has evolved, along with some fabulous looks from Dress for Success Southern Nevada to help you feel your professional best.

INCLUSIVITY IN WORKWEAR

Workwear for women has evolved to be more diverse and inclusive, with some shifts in the fashion industry to meet the needs of women with disabilities, varying gender expressions, and ethnicities.

Inclusive Sizing: Fashion brands are recognizing the importance of offering a wide range of sizes to cater to diverse body types. Inclusive sizing now includes plus-size options, petite and tall ranges, as well as extended size ranges to accommodate different body proportions. This ensures that women of all

sizes can find workwear that fits well and makes them feel confident.

Adaptive Clothing: To cater to the needs of women with disabilities, adaptive clothing is critically important and, as such, is gaining prominence. These garments are designed with features such as magnetic closures, Velcro fastenings, and adjustable straps to make dressing easier for individuals with limited mobility. The designs also accommodate the use of prosthetics, wheelchairs, or other assistive devices, ensuring comfort and functionality.

Gender-Neutral Fashion: The concept of gender expression has evolved, leading to a rise in gender-neutral or unisex fashion. Many brands now offer workwear that is not specific to any gender, allowing individuals to express themselves authentically in the workplace. This includes options like tailored suits, button-down shirts, and trousers that can be worn by anyone, regardless of gender.

The economic consequences of the pandemic and remote work have led to a more relaxed dress code in many workplaces. Traditional business attire has given way to casual and comfortable clothing. Women are opting for a more informal style, with smart-casual clothing taking center stage.

• Emphasis on comfort and functionality: As remote work blurs the line between personal and professional spaces, women are prioritizing comfort and practicality in their workwear choices. This shift has resulted in a focus on flexible fabrics, looser fits, and comfortable footwear, allowing for ease of movement and adaptability throughout the day.

• Increased importance of video-conferencing attire: With remote work and virtual meetings becoming the norm, women are paying more attention to their appearance from the waist up. This has led to a greater emphasis on tops, accessories, and hairstyles, while bottoms and footwear may be more casual and comfortable. The need to make a professional impression through video calls has influenced women's workwear choices.

• Hybrid work attire: As some companies adopt hybrid work models, where employees split their time between remote and on-site work, women are adopting a flexible approach to workwear. They may dress more formally on the days they go to the office and opt for casual attire on remote workdays.

• Personal style and self-expression: The shift to remote work has allowed women to express their personal style more freely. Without strict dress codes, women have the opportunity to experiment with fashion, incorporating their preferences, individuality, and creativity into their workwear choices.

TIRED OF SWIPING, RIGHT?

Looking for love? Wanda Tracey, Matchmaker and Marriage Officiant, wants you just to be your own beautiful self. Whether returning to dating after a long relationship, a broken heart, divorce, or losing a loved one, Wanda provides the resources to build a long-lasting, loving relationship with a good person with good intentions.

A one-time fee of $150 allows Wanda to do a thorough criminal and social media background check on every client. Then she interviews three people closest to them to learn more about who their key influencers are.

“We want no serial daters, no serial heartbreakers, no serial scammers. Cereal should only come in a box,” said Wanda.

Wanda started a wedding ceremony and marriage officiant service, Wanda’s Weddings, after corporate downsizing and a layoff. She has performed well over 4,000 wedding ceremonies and has earned eight Couple’s Choice Awards and more than 300 five-star reviews. Her natural people skills and strong work ethic helped her build lasting customer and client relationships.

After being widowed in 2013, she saw a need for a matchmaking service for singles who wanted more than random dating encounters because she couldn’t find a method and means to connect with a good compatible partner in the “left/right swipe” era. With

creative inspiration found through daily spiritual practices, studies, and meditations, Wanda launched a personalized spiritual approach to matchmaking called 702 Match, where she matches good people with good intentions, seeking real love.

First impressions are everything! Women don’t mind a man with facial hair, but it had better be groomed. Taking care of one’s clothing and personal hygiene, for both men and women, matters to a potential partner. It’s a sensitive issue to tackle, and Wanda rarely needs to bring it up to a client. But sometimes, clients over 55 may need a wardrobe update or a new hairstyle. Then she’ll bring in an outside style consultant to recommend some changes.

Younger clients, 25 to 30, often collect shoes or sneakers, and it’s a key element in their unique style. She advises not to get stuck in comfort outfits and to be a bit more polished when meeting a potential match.

Tune in on the internet Wednesdays at 3:00 to ‘22.3 Take Over Radio’ for more dating and relationship advice, style tips, and current trends. Or watch for Wanda's upcoming reality television pilot, “Vegas Matchmaker,” focusing on real people who want to find real love. It’s not about what Hollywood wants us to see but reflects our unique community with all the beauty of Las Vegas.

Before beginning her match search, clients must read Don Miguel Ruiz’s “The Four Agreements” to explore their own inner dialogue, the negative self-sabotage, or the ‘victim mentality.’ These patterns can hinder a good match, and clients need to be prepared for some hard truths.

Next is “The 5 Love Languages” by Gary Chapman. The key to a good match is based on being aware of one another’s love language to communicate successfully.

Relationship coaches help people feel comfortable dating again during free weekly seminars open to potential clients with Katelyn Thompson, an Intimacy, and Love coach, or Karen DaCosta Williams, a marriage and relationship coach. These seminars ease awkwardness, especially after a long break from dating.

How does Wanda make a match? It’s a combination of intuition and science. A certified matchmaker with years of experience, she listens to what a client is saying and not saying. She has honed her skills to consider what the cultural impact of a match would be. Can they honor and respect one another’s cultures and experiences? THE little BLACK DRESS

Most of us can say we have that one staple black dress that can be worn at any occasion, and the classic look is not only popular but is elegant and timeless. It is the dress in our closet that can be accessorized to fit the event and often is the dress we go back to time and again. It is one of the most versatile items we own, never goes out of style and looks good on anyone. But how did this classic look originate?

Prior to the 1920’s, black was reserved for funeral wear, but when Coco Channel made the bold move to print a short, black dress on the cover of Vogue in 1926, all of that changed. The popularity of the black dress skyrocketed, and it became one of the most influential pieces of clothing. Chanel transported fashion from tight corsets and bustles to straightlined silhouettes. Because of its affordability, black remained a popular choice during The Great Depression. The black dress had another boom in popularity when “Breakfast at Tiffany’s’’ debuted, and Audrey Hepburn showcased her iconic black dress with long, black gloves. Today, people accessorize the black dress to fit any occasion.

We enlisted the help of stylist, Amani Skalacki, to show us how versatile the little black dress can be.

COCO CHANNEL MADE THE BOLD MOVE TO PRINT A SHORT, BLACK DRESS ON THE COVER OF VOGUE IN 1926

“We usually think of the little black dress as a piece you wear to an event. However, because black is so flattering on all body types and skin tones, women have multiple black dresses from casual to evening,” Amani says. “I selected this collection of dresses to show the versatility of the black dress and to give women some new ideas of how to wear the evening gown with a train on a night out with her girlfriends or the traditional summer strappy maxi dress while running errands in cooler temperatures.”

Although black is a timeless, classic look, that doesn’t mean it goes without personality. You can make it your own style by accessorizing to infuse new life into a dress that you already own.

“A sequin dress can be dressed up with heels, or that same dress can be transformed into a casual outfit with the addition of tennis shoes and an oversized blazer or a denim jacket. Transform that strappy dress you have been wearing all summer into an outfit that is perfect for chilly fall temperatures. Add a narrow scarf, a leather jacket and sandals or a tall pointy boot, and you have a whole new look for an evening out,” Amani adds.

If you have a dress in the back of your closet that you haven’t worn in years, don’t be afraid to dust it off and give it new life. “Take that evening gown you wore years ago to a tailor for a little transformation. Turn it into a high low dress-top that can be worn out with girlfriends or on a date night.
