Summer is in full swing, and it is the perfect time to come up with a bucket list of activities to enjoy and ways to unwind and relax, even with the heat. Some of the best summers are often not filled with constant activities and trips but are those that reflect a slower pace and simple moments of enjoying those around us. Although the “lazy days of summer” isn’t always something we can attain with our packed schedules, it is refreshing to take time to slow down and enjoy some of the simple pleasures. Some of the best times spent can be a backyard barbecue or swimming with friends, spending a day on the water, eating ice cream on a hot summer day, or taking in the night sky with someone you love. Living in Las Vegas, many of us decide to leave town in June and July to get away from our extremely hot summer days. We head to the mountains of Utah or Colorado to escape the heat. Other folks head to the Southern California beach towns. Whatever your family tradition may be, be sure to take a few minutes to enjoy all our blessings and enjoy some quiet time with the family. In our July issue, we wanted to share information about great local companies working to keep your house cool this summer, helping your mental wellbeing, and elevating your home’s window and door game. Also check out our feature on a cool hot spot this summer - Mount Charleston. The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area and the town of Mount Charleston offer locals fun opportunities to escape the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas year-round. During the summer months, the mission for locals is to escape the heat to get to cooler temperatures, and enjoy the outdoors.
campgrounds and picnic sites Start your Mount Charleston adventure at one of 13 campgrounds and picnic sites. Picnic sites are the central points of biking, camping, hiking, and stunning views. There are many options for picnic and camping locations throughout the Spring Mountains. Visitors may need to pay an additional fee to access many campgrounds. And some picnic sites have cash-only at the entrance, while others may be reserved in advance. Visit Recreation.gov to find and reserve a location. The Deer Creek Picnic Area is a popular choice found approximately halfway down the Deer Creek Highway. Deer Creek is home to one of the areas with no entrance fee and is occupied on a first-come, first-serve basis. This picnic site is close to popular trails, including Bristlecone Loop Trail, Calico Tanks Trail, Kraft Mountain Loop, and Tin Can Alley.
