The holidays are here, and as the spirit of the season is among us, we often try to replicate what made the season feel so magical to us in our youth. The traditions we set for our own families often mirror some of what we experienced as a child, whether it is the smells, the sounds, the lights, the holiday activities, or a combination of it all that reflects that best. Personally, the holidays always end up being a time to get together with friends and family visiting from out of town that comes to Las Vegas to enjoy our fantastic weather and have fun in our city. It’s always nice to go out to a great dinner, enjoy a glass of wine, laugh about the “good old days,” and talk about what’s new. These are the times to relish in the moment and enjoy. My three children are all out of college, live in different states, and are deeply embedded in their careers. Still, when they come to the valley for the holidays, we have great talks and catch up on everything going on in their lives – it is the best holiday gift this parent can receive. This month, we want to highlight the magic of the season and what our city has to offer that helps spread holiday cheer. We also wanted to share what our area has to offer for entertainment and ways to give back this holiday season. Keep in mind that while this season can be beautiful for some, it can be painful and lonely for others, especially those who have recently lost a loved one. In the true spirit of the season, let’s take care of our neighbors who need assistance or are alone. My hope for you this season is that you feel love and peace and that we all remember to take care of each other extending grace, empathy, and love.

Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada Raises More Than $67,000 Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada’s third annual “Swing Fore Safe Homes” charity golf tournament and virtual silent auction raised $67,000 recently. The funds will enable the nonprofit to provide critical repairs to approximately seven homes at no cost to low-income homeowners, including seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities. The event was held at Reflection Bay Golf Club in Henderson, and nearly 130 golfers participated.

Collective Giving Group Seeks to Donate $100,000 to Local Nonprofit Impact Las Vegas, a collective giving group, is celebrating its 10th
anniversary by selecting one local nonprofit on which to bestow a $100,000 grant. The group, founded in 2013, has collectively given nearly $400,000 to local charities since they were founded. Each member of Impact Las Vegas gives $1,000 and votes on grant submissions. Recent recipients have included Kline Veterans Fund and The Just One Project. Crew Las Vegas Donates to Women Veterans of Nevada Commercial Real Estate Women of Las Vegas presented a check for more than $9,000 to Women Veterans of Nevada. When it comes to finding the perfect gift for the man in your life this holiday season, you may have to look no further than your garage for some inspiration. We are talking about ‘residential car lifts.’ Yes, it’s a thing, and this smart gadget has been growing in popularity right here in Southern Nevada. “The only regret I’ve ever heard from our customers is that they didn’t get this thing sooner,” said Scot Salisbury, Owner and President of Residential Parking Solutions. He initially commented on his company catering primarily to commercial customers like car repair shops and auto dealerships. However, things started changing in the last ten years when the general public caught wind of this equipment that allows them to park two cars in a space that would normally fit one. “I get two reactions from customers: either they didn’t know it was a thing, or they couldn’t believe how affordable it is.” Scot pointed out that most people think these lifts cost

more than $10,000 a pop, but in reality, they are about half that price. These car lifts look and operate similarly to the ones you would see at your mechanic’s shop. Scot remarked that his team could install one inside a garage in about half a day. This product then giveshomeowners the additional space to do everything from storing an extra car to items taking up space in their garage. “We had one customer who put a plywood deck on top of the lift, with a railing around it so his wife could store their holiday decorations there. Then they just bring it down whenever she needs them. Scot noted he is not expecting this trend to go away any time soon and is happy to be offering a product that "stacks" up to his customers' expectations. “When I started, we used to do about two, three, or four lifts a month,” said Salisbury. “Now we average 20 a month. It's great to see how fast word spreads when people realize this is something they can have right in their own home.”

Make holiday entertaining easy with these styling food hacks that look impressive but are simple to create. If you don’t have time to bake a dessert but want to serve something that doesn’t look store-bought, simply top it with berries, herbs, a sauce, or a holiday prop to give it a little something extra. We made a trip to Trader Joe’s and purchased most of these items, and after some simple assembling and minimal baking, we were able to create a beautiful, eye-catching holiday spread.
DOUBLE CREME BRIE BOARD This double creme brie with truffles can be purchased at Trader Joe’s and is always a crowd favorite. After baking the brie, add berries and a sauce of your choosing to the top as a flavor enhancer and to add interest. This brie is drizzled with local honey, berries, and candied pecans and is served with crackers.

Giving Campaign Now in its third year, the City Lifestyle Giving Campaign will give away $300,000 this holiday season to help individual community members who would benefit from a helping hand during their time of need. But they need YOUR HELP to make it happen! Maybe you know of a single parent struggling to provide, an elderly person who has experienced loss, a child enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need—even if nobody else does. To preserve and protect the dignity of every recipient, the City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized in ANY way. (Even those who nominate others may remain anonymous if they choose.) Last year, City Lifestyle was able to give to more than 70 recipients all over the country by sending checks in the mail through New Year’s Eve. (This year, the goal is to double that number with checks ranging in amount up to $3,000 each.) With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.” Together with Matthew Perry, Chief Sales Officer, Steven adds that the outpouring and gratitude from the recipients was overwhelming and affirmed that this is a tradition they want to continue. “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success,” Matthew adds, “so we in turn want to be a blessing to others.” City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep doing it on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is so rewarding that it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster that culture of generosity.”
