We even took to wearing athletic gear all day long, even if we weren’t working out that day. Oh, and don’t forget the Zoom-worthy tops paired with pajama bottoms. Pandemic fashion has had some staying power, but our fashion sensibilities are rising as we embrace getting out more, joining in-person meetings, and attending events. We have seen the return of dress shoes and heels with a refreshed attitude after missing so many nights out and the “see and be seen” moments. And we aren’t the only ones breaking out our fashion fervor. In this magazine, you’ll learn about one of Henderson’s chic boutiques offering face jewelry in the form of fashion eyewear. And a designing woman is using her fresh room ideas to create new looks across the valley.

Not your typical chain eyewear business, this locally-owned and operated business understands that no one buys just one pair of glasses anymore. People want options. And they often want that bling statement. So, they offer a palette of a thousand different colors to choose from as well as a variety of luxury brands such as Cartier, Gucci, Tom Ford, and Christian Dior, to name just a few. They want their customers to have that “wow factor” and that personalized statement piece when purchasing eyewear. “The fashion world is constantly changing, and eyewear is always developing. Just like fancy handbags or shoes, women want to have unique eyewear or face jewelry,” states Crimi. J Crimi caters to everyone’s budget, and that is why they have such a following. They serve both celebrity clients and the everyday person with unsurpassed personalized service. Because they have an in-house lab, you can have your glasses, in many cases, done the same day. They also offer custom-made eyewear such as buffalo-horned frames or gold Cartier frames. They even have frames made from Austrian crystals, stainless steel, Japanese titanium, and space-age plastics that are the weight of a teabag. J Crimi can custom tailor frames to conform to each person’s face, and they offer free eyewear repair, so if customers have a problem with their glasses or need a quick fix, they can come in and be treated like family. “We pride ourselves on being dependable, reliable, and making sure our clients are happy,” said Crimi.

touches that have become a hallmark of the Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance. “As to be expected, we had amazing cars from famous collections all over the world,” states Sobek. “These spectacular cars were the stars of our first show, but we felt there was still more that could be done to highlight the ‘spirit and essence’ of the Concours d’Elegance and to honor those who preserve and archive these amazing automotive works of art.” One innovation that set the Las Vegas Concours apart from all others, was the Tour d’Elegance parade of cars down the Las Vegas Boulevard Strip on Sunday morning, following the show. “No other city had such an iconic street to parade the cars,” Sobek notes, “and we took advantage of something Las Vegas has to offer that is unlike any other venue in the world.” But for Sobek and the LVCE team, such thinking was (and is) just the beginning.

LAS VEGAS CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE (CONTINUED)
ART, BEAUTY, AND INNOVATION One aspect was to create a memorable image to Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance Founder and Chairman Stuart Sobek
symbolize this event—and they began researching the history of automotive design. In doing so, they came across a unique woman named Helene Rother. In 1943, Rother became the first female automotive designer at General Motors. Extremely talented and clearly ahead of her time, she designed upscale interiors for automobiles that set an industry standard for moderately-priced models that rivaled the best luxury cars of the day. For many years, cars featuring her stylings boasted “interiors by Madame Helene Rother of Paris.” The Sobek graphics team settled on Rother as the figurehead for the Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance. They first created a logo that captured her beauty and spirit and then extended her likeness to a beautiful gleaming “Helene Awards” statuette presented to winners of the LVCE Best-in-Show judging competitions. An interesting result of Sobek’s creation of the Helene Awards for his show is that it also brought Helene Rother into the spotlight within the automotive world. So much so that on July 21st of this year, she was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame—in Dearborn, Michigan – along with a small group of industry luminaries that included Jay Leno and the Chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company. Thanks to Sobek and the Las Vegas Concours Helene Awards. A FIELD OF DREAM CARS The Second Annual Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance, scheduled for October of this year, will again bring more than 100 of the most famous magnificent collector cars to the entertainment capital of the world. While amazing and captivating in its own right— for Sobek and the LVCE team—that is just for starters, as this year’s Concours will also be filled with innovative showmanship and never before seen ground-breaking direction from the opening ceremony to an exciting new venue. It all begins on October 21st with the kick-off Concours d’Avant (French for “Before”) event at the Shelby Heritage Center, home of the famous Carroll Shelby Museum (featuring over 30 of his most famous Cobra and Ford Mustang cars) and the Shelby

est and hottest Cobras are being built, all just off the South end of the Las Vegas Strip. This choice by Sobek and his team is indicative of their ability to envision and masterfully bring together the very best of automotive history and elegance and then seamlessly blend it with the best of today’s automotive world, all the while casting an eye to what may be just around the corner. Interestingly enough, Peter Brock—one of Carroll Shelby’s first employees who later designed the famous Corvette Sting Ray—will also receive a Helene Award for lifetime “Achievement in Automotive Design” at this year’s show. RENOVATE & REFINE (CONTINUED) While Calderon is excited to see her business grow (seven new workers were hired during the pandemic alone), she says there are still challenges, similar to ones many other small-business owners face during these unstable economic times. “We have seen material costs jump over and over the past year, and furniture prices going up 10 to 20 percent,” said Calderon. “Despite that, we have not raised our design prices. We are hoping prices will soon drop a bit so everyone can afford what they are looking for.” As for what’s next for The Idea Room, Calderon said success has given her the flexibility to spend more time with her family. She remarried three years ago and now has two stepsons along with her three children. Calderon says like any mom can attest, you work hard and get things done because that’s what you have to do. The difference is finding the career and people that give you joy. “I think going through hardships and twists and turns in life gives you even more drive to reach your goals,” said Calderon. “Creating beautiful spaces is an outlet for me. aspects of the Nevada desert landscape into his architectural design. Today more than ever biophilic-design plays a crucial role in what homeowners seek from their custom home builders. Biophilic-design (meaning love of nature) was popularized by the American biologist Edward Wilson in the 1980s as a result of the increasing rates of urbanization and the disconnection between people and the natural landscape.

“Vegas Modern 001 is the culmination of 17 years of our company,” explained Blue Heron Founder and CEO Tyler Jones. “At Blue Heron, we develop homes that live beyond words. With VM001, we’ve created an extraordinary emotional connection to home that will change your life. This home will transcend time and inspire generations for years to come.” Used within the building industry to increase occupant connectivity to nature, biophilic-design incorporates aspects of the natural world into the architecture and interior design of living spaces. The strong desire for biophilic-design is evident in the sale of Blue Heron’s Vegas Modern 001 in the exclusive enclave of MacDonald Highlands. The 15,000-square-foot home includes 3 to 5 bedrooms and sits on 1.26 acres. An extraordinary and state-of-the-art feat in design, the home incorporates the desert’s wide-open sensibility by incorporating natural materials such as stone and wood.

By taking care of your corneas, you can extend the health of your eyesight and reduce vision loss with age. An easy way to remember what to eat for healthy eyes is to look for orange foods. Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and butternut squash are all high in vitamin A.

H E A LT H Y SKIN Did you know that vitamin A is also imperative for skin health? So while you’re caring for your corneas, you’re also boosting your outer glow. If you want to kick it up a notch, be intentional about eating plenty of foods with omega-3 fatty acids to reduce acne and inflammation and help your skin produce its own collagen. For your healthy fats, go for flax seed, walnuts, chia seeds, and fish.

For soft, flowing tresses, make sure you’re getting an equal amount of B vitamins in your diet. We naturally get plenty of B-6 because it’s in most grains, but it’s easier to end up with a biotin or B-12 deficiency if you don’t pay attention. Focus on foods like salmon, eggs, spinach, and broccoli for a healthy balance of B vitamins for your hair.

THREE EASY TIPS FOR R E P U R P O S I N G YO U R LI T T LE B L AC K D R E S S THE BLACK SHEATH DRESS HAS COME A LONG WAY FROM ITS 1926 DEBUT IN AMERICAN VOGUE BY COCO CHANEL. Today it is referred to as the little black dress, or LBD, and is a staple in most women’s wardrobes. It can take you from the humblest gathering to a sophisticated black-tie gala and everything in between, which makes it a musthave. Available in different fabrics and styles, its versatility allows you to wear it for different work scenarios—from job interviews to business presentations. The secret lies in knowing the context and how to accessorize accordingly to fit the scenario.
01 Use a statement necklace to make—you guessed it—a statement! The type of necklace you choose will depend on the occasion. Traditional pearls are a good choice for more formal settings such as a job interview, while a simpler option would fit the bill for a lunch meeting.
