Welcome to The EXPLORE Issue, let's EXPLORE our waterways...

This issue celebrates our vibrant waterways that make our Coastal community so unique. Boating and fishing are a huge part of our lives here on the Island. Our community looks different from the waterways, you will see things not visible from land.

This month we dive into the meticulous world of yacht detailing, where you'll meet a dedicated professional who ensures every boat shines to perfection. Whether you're off-shore, in-shore fishing, cruising around the sights or simply an admirer, you'll gain a new appreciation for the craft and care that goes into maintaining these beautiful vessels.

Next, we introduce you to two standout boats from Momentum Marine, perfect for navigating our scenic waters. From leisurely family cruises to fishing, these vessels are your ticket to experiencing the Gulf Coast lifestyle.

Our journey wouldn't be complete without highlighting our Islands: Bird, Robinson, Walker, and Gilchrist. Each offers unique landscapes that showcase their natural beauty. They serve as gathering spots for locals and visitors alike.

We also shine a light on a truly inspiring event. The 8th Annual Greg Godwin American Heroes on the Gulf. This year they had 150 disabled veterans visit our waterways for a day of fishing. 96 of these 150 heroes had never been fishing. They were able to enjoy the place we call home through the kindness of our community members. This heartwarming story highlights the strength and resilience of our vets, bringing our community together to celebrate their spirit and courage. This annual event is a testament to the healing power of nature.

We hope this issue inspires you to EXPLORE the many facets of our Paradise Island, from our beautiful bodies of water and Islands to our generous community organizations that come together to provide disabled vets with a day of fishing.

Happy Exploring!

Thank you for welcoming us into your home and lives, every month. Hope to see you around town.

Love local, live local, and spend locally, Until next month...

BIRD ISLAND: A BOATER’S ISLAND

Bird Island is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. This Island is home to a diverse range of bird species, including herons, egrets, pelicans, and ospreys. You can witness these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, soaring through the sky or perched on the Island’s

marshy shores. Bird Island offers a sense of tranquility, making it the perfect spot for birdwatching and photography. It is a very different Island in the warm months. During summer, you will find numerous boaters gathering on and all around Bird Island. It’s a very lively place to meet and socialize, locals and visitors alike.

Gilchrist Island
“OUR ISLANDS ARE RICH WITH NATURE AND HISTORY.”

ROBINSON ISLAND: A HISTORICAL GEM

Robinson Island, just a few yards north of Bird, carries a rich history that dates back centuries. Named after the Robinson family, who were among the first settlers in the area, this Island is a testament to the region’s past. Robinson’s lush vegetation and serene surroundings provide an ideal setting for picnics, sunbathing, or simply taking a leisurely stroll along the shoreline. The City of Orange Beach purchased Robinson in 2003 to preserve it from development. Exploring Robinson Island allows

visitors to step back in time and connect with the heritage of Orange Beach.

GILCHRIST ISLAND: A PRIVATE ISLAND

Gilchrist Island: A natural paradise located at the mouth of Cotton Bayou. Gilchrist offers an unspoiled natural paradise. This private island is covered with unique and elegant birds. Bird watchers love to anchor near or view from the shoreline. Gilchrist is a sanctuary for birds and marine animals. You can enjoy the pristine beauty in water by circling it by boat,

kayak, or personal watercraft. Gilchrist is not available for public use.

WALKER ISLAND: A WILDLIFE REFUGE

Walker Island, also known as Rabbit Island, is a tranquil island located east of Robinson and Bird Islands. Orange Beach purchased the island in 2013 to preserve the natural fauna and flora. Beds of grass surround the island housing numerous marine species like shrimp, crabs, and fish. The Island is home to various types of waterfowl. By hosting these different species of fowl and sea grasses, Walker is an important part of the habitat that all four islands create. This small island is accessible by boat, kayak, or personal watercraft.

As you immerse yourself in the history and beauty of Bird, Robinson, Gilchrist, and Walker Islands, it becomes evident that these hidden gems hold immense allure and wonder. To fully experience and explore these captivating destinations, venture out and embark on an unforgettable island-hopping adventure. Whether you choose to explore one island or visit them all, each offers a unique experience that will ignite your sense of adventure and leave you with lasting memories. Additionally, be sure to respect the natural environment and wildlife, as these islands are protected areas that require preservation.

Orange Beach has more than a beautiful beaches, bayous, and bays. Bird Island, Robinson Island, Gilchrist Island, and Walker Island beckon adventurers to step off the beaten path and discover these hidden treasures. So, venture out and EXPLORE!

UNITING VETS THROUGH FISHING AND FAITH

IRONMEN OUTDOOR MINISTRIES

Ironmen Outdoor Ministries is a remarkable organization that combines the love for fishing with a deep commitment to connecting men, women, and children with disabilities, particularly veterans, to their faith in Christ. With a focus on providing unique fishing

lines, they also cast away their burdens and find solace in the company of likeminded individuals who have faced similar challenges.

In May of this year, Ironmen Outdoor Ministries achieved a significant milestone by reaching over 150 veterans.

experiences such as The Greg Godwin American Heroes on the Gulf Event, this ministry has touched the lives of hundreds of participants. Through their unwavering dedication, Ironmen Outdoor Ministries has become a beacon of hope and healing for veterans who have served our great Nation.

Ironmen Outdoor Ministries understands the power of shared experiences and camaraderie. By bringing together a group of disabled veterans with their families, they create a supportive community where individuals can share their stories, struggles, and triumphs.

The act of fishing in the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico serves as a backdrop for these connections to form. As the participants cast their

With the 8th annual Greg Godwin American Heroes on the Gulf Fishing Event, the ministry has reached thousands of veterans over the years, providing them with a platform to network, heal, and witness to each other.  This accomplishment speaks to the impact and importance of their work. By providing veterans with the opportunity to come together and share their experiences, the ministry offers a safe space for healing, growth, and connection. Many veterans face unique challenges when transitioning back to civilian life, and Ironmen Outdoor Ministries plays a vital role in supporting these individuals through their shared love for fishing and their unwavering faith in Christ.

Ironmen Outdoor Ministries understands that the power of connection extends beyond the fishing trip itself. They create an environment where participants can build lasting relationships and support networks. Through organized activities, group discussions, and shared meals, the ministry fosters an atmosphere of camaraderie and understanding. The bonds formed during these experiences can be life-changing, providing veterans with a sense of belonging and purpose.

Central to Ironmen Outdoor Ministries’ mission is their commitment to connecting men, women, and children with disabilities to Christ. While fishing serves as the vehicle for bringing these men together, faith is at the core of their work. Through prayer, devotionals, and intentional discussions, the ministry seeks to deepen the faith of participants and help them find strength and guidance in their spiritual journey. By combining their love for fishing with their dedication to Christ, Ironmen Outdoor Ministries offers a holistic approach to healing and renewal.

The impact of Ironmen Outdoor Ministries extends far beyond the fishing trips themselves. Many veterans who have participated in the ministry’s programs have reported a renewed sense of purpose, improved mental well-being,

and strengthened faith. The connections made during these experiences often continue long after the fishing trip ends, with participants forming lifelong friendships and support networks. The ministry’s commitment to veterans goes beyond a one-time event, as they continue to provide ongoing support and resources to help these individuals thrive in their daily lives.

Ironmen Outdoor Ministries is a shining example of how outdoor activities, faith, and community can come together to bring healing and renewal to veterans. Through their unique fishing experiences in the Gulf of Mexico, they have reached over 150 veterans and provided them with a platform to connect, share, and grow. By combining their love for fishing with their unwavering commitment to Christ, Ironmen Outdoor Ministries is making a lasting impact on the lives of those who have served our Nation. As they continue to connect men to Christ through the power of fishing, their vision of healing, hope, and faith remains steadfast.
