Kids + Pets = Unconditional Love

Welcome to the 36th issue of Gulf Coast City Lifestyle! We are officially three years old and what better way to celebrate than with an issue dedicated to the pure joy and unconditional love that kids and pets bring into our lives?

In this issue, we’re excited to introduce you to Rover Runner, a mobile, air-conditioned treadmill gym for dogs. It’s a fun and innovative way to help our four-legged friends stay healthy, calm, happy, dry, and cool.

We’re also proud to spotlight Baldwin Baby Company, a local brand founded by our very own ‘Baldwin bag lady.’ Her line of diaper bags, back-packs and convertible purses blends practicality with beauty, and her story is just as inspiring as her products.

You’ll also meet a true local hero: a FedEx driver turned TikTok sensation, known not just for his upbeat personality, but for the way he gives back. Revenue earned from his TikTok account, Delivery_Doggos, is donated to Baldwin Animal Shelter, helping fund treatment for heartworm positive rescues. His kindness delivers far more than packages, it delivers hope.

We also had the joy of visiting the Green family in Fort Morgan, who are living a unique coastal, farm-to-table lifestyle with their four beautiful children and two beloved pets. Their home is filled with purpose, passion, and a refreshing approach to everyday living that reminds us all to slow down and savor the simple things.

And finally, we sit down with Dr. Carrie Wilder of Coastal Family Eyecare to talk about pediatric eye health—and how early intervention can make a world of difference for our little ones.

As always, thank you for supporting local stories, local businesses, and this incredible community we’re so proud to call home. Here’s to the laughter of children, the wagging tails of pets, and the many ways we lift each other up.

Thank you for inviting us into your homes and hearts for three amazing years.

Love local. Live local. Spend local.

Until next month…

Male & Female Hormone Pellets

Hormone pellets are tiny, natural hormone implants that gently restore what time has taken away. For men, testosterone pellets can reignite energy, focus, and vitality. For women, estradiol and testosterone pellets bring relief to hot flashes, restless nights, and lost desire—helping you feel like yourself again. They release hormones steadily over time, helping to maintain stable and consistent levels in the bloodstream. Talk to your healthcare provider to see if hormone therapy is right for you.

MACKENZIE MCATEER REDEFINING DIAPER BAGS FOR THE MODERN MOM

In the world of parenting, finding the right gear can be a challenge, especially when it comes to diaper bags. Fortunately, Mackenzie McAteer, founder of Baldwin Baby Co., is here to change the game. With her vision of creating stylish, functional bags that reflect modern motherhood, Mackenzie is on a mission to empower moms everywhere.

I recently had the pleasure of catching up with Mackenzie to learn more about her journey as a wife, mom, and entrepreneur. After graduating from the University of Alabama, she spent over ten years following her husband, Trae, as he moved for work. Their adventures took them all over and as they traveled, they welcomed two wonderful boys, Lane and Miles. And let’s not forget Humpy, their 14-year-old teacup chihuahua.

CONTINUED >

Mackenzie’s boys have played a significant role in the creation of Baldwin Baby Co. Lane, now six, and Miles, three-and-a-half, have been her little helpers from the start. They’ve modeled bibs and blankets, “helped” pack orders, and even shared their unsolicited opinions on designs. Mackenzie jokes that without their energy and enthusiasm, Baldwin Baby Co. might not even exist.

However, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Mackenzie opened up about the learning curve of starting a business while raising little ones. The e-commerce landscape can be tricky to navigate. Mackenzie faced her fair share of trial and error, but each misstep became a valuable lesson that helped her grow and adapt.

Now, rooted in Baldwin County, where Trae proposed and where they’re finally putting down roots, Mackenzie draws inspiration from the southern charm and coastal lifestyle. This influence is evident in every aspect of Baldwin Baby Co., from the heron feather charm on their bags to naming styles after local spots. Mackenzie hopes to grow the business to a point where they can give back to the community that has supported them so wholeheartedly.

What stands out most about Mackenzie is her authenticity. She embraces the messy, beautiful reality of motherhood and entrepreneurship, reminding us that it’s okay to navigate the chaos with “toddler coworkers” and Humpy acting as the real boss. Her story serves as a comforting reminder that we’re all in this together, figuring out the joys and challenges of parenting while pursuing our dreams.

As Mackenzie continues to redefine what it means to be a modern mom, Baldwin Baby Co. is sure to make waves in the industry. With stylish and functional diaper bags designed for today’s mothers, there’s no doubt that her products will resonate with families everywhere.

HEALTHIER DOGS ONE STEP AT A TIME

ARTICLE BY LILLIAN TAYLOR | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JD SWIGER-SWIGER STUDIO

In a world where busy schedules often clash with the needs of our beloved pets, Kelle and her husband, Jordan, found a creative solution to keep their dogs healthy and happy. Their journey began with their two dogs, Fletcher, a spirited four-year-old Golden Retriever, and Luke, an eleven-year-old lab mix. Living in a townhouse, their routine revolved around early morning walks for their dogs. However, rain showers often disrupted their plans, leaving them scrambling for alternatives when the heat of the day wasn’t safe for their walks.

One day, during a lighthearted conversation, Kelle joked about the idea of having a dog treadmill for those rainy days. To her surprise, she soon found herself inundated with ads for dog treadmills and mobile dog gyms, primarily popular in places like Arizona and Las Vegas. This sparked an idea that began to take shape in her mind. “If I had a mobile dog gym I’d call it Rover Runner,” she mused, as she found herself wishing for a solution on days when walks were impossible. The idea grew stronger as she faced challenges such as a bout of stomach flu and issues with dog sitters when dog walks were impossible. It was clear that the need for a mobile dog gym was more than just a passing thought; it was a genuine gap in the market that could provide support for busy pet owners like herself.

CONTINUED >

Driven by her passion for her dogs and a desire to help others, Kelle prayed for guidance and reached out to friends with business experience. She researched everything from non-motorized dog treadmills to the logistics of a mobile gym. After months of planning and having a logo designed featuring Fletcher and Luke, Rover Runner officially launched in January 2025, with services starting just a month later.

Rover Runner is now licensed in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, with plans to expand into Foley. Through a hassle-free online booking system, pet owners can easily select their desired day and time for service. This approach ensures that each dog receives the attention and care they deserve. Kelle emphasizes the importance of giving dogs time to acclimate to the self-propelled custom treadmills, as it can be new experiences for many. Each session is tailored to the individual dog’s needs, allowing them to set their own pace on the self-propelled treadmill.

exercise. The mental stimulation that comes from their physical activity is just as vital. The air-conditioned environment ensures that dogs remain comfortable while they play and exercise. Which is important for the brutal summer heat we endure. With temperatures in the high 90s and the ground temperatures reaching into the mid-to-high hundreds, it’s difficult to safely walk your dog.

“If only I had a Rover Runner,” Kelle mused, laughing to herself.

Kelle’s motivation for Rover Runner stems from her personal experiences as a dog owner. She understands the various reasons pet owners seek assistance, whether it’s high-energy dogs, physical limitations, or demanding work schedules. “As responsible pet owners, we know that the mental and physical health of our dogs starts with a good walk,” she explains. Through Rover Runner, she aims to provide a tailored solution that

caters to each dog’s individual needs while fostering a healthier lifestyle, one step at a time.

Kelle highlights “treadmills don’t force dogs to run; instead, they only move when the dog does, allowing for a comfortable and natural experience.” With options for incline and resistance, each session can be adjusted to provide a unique challenge. This is crucial for addressing anxiety and unwanted behaviors that can arise from boredom or lack of

Community engagement is also at the heart of Rover Runner. Kelle is passionate about connecting with local pet owners and making a positive impact. She encourages everyone to reach out, whether for bookings or simply to engage on social media. You can find Rover Runner on Facebook, TikTok and Instagram, or visit their website to learn more about the services offered.

Why Children’s Eye Exams Are Essential for Healthy Development

Clear vision plays a crucial role in every aspect of a child’s life—from learning and reading to playing sports and building social connections. Yet, vision issues in children often go unnoticed, since many kids may not realize that what they’re experiencing isn’t normal. Vision and learning go hand in hand.  Up to 80% of learning in a child’s early years is visual, one in four children in the U.S. have a vision issue, and up to 60% of students with learning difficulties may have undiagnosed vision problems.  An eye exam can make a dramatic difference in your child’s confidence and classroom success. Unfortunately, many parents are not aware of the importance of eye exams. The American Optometric Association recommends that children have their first eye exam at 6 months old, with follow-up exams at age 3 and again before they start kindergarten. These early exams help detect any potential vision issues and ensure your child is on track for healthy visual development. Even if your child seems to have good vision, it’s important to have their eyes checked regularly to catch any hidden problems early.

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY GULF COAST CITY LIFESTYLE

Dr. Wilder enjoys working with patients of all ages, but one of the most rewarding parts of her career has been helping children receive their first pair of glasses or contacts. With over 25 years of experience, she has had the unique joy of watching many of her young patients grow into adults—some of whom now bring their own children in for eye care. Dr. Wilder takes great pride in making eye exams a positive and comfortable experience for kids, and in helping families prioritize healthy vision at every stage of life. If your child has any conditions that could result in amblyopia (lazy eye), early diagnosis is critical.  After approximately the age of seven the connections between the eye and visual areas of the brain are completed, making it unlikely to reverse amblyopia. Additionally, the incidence of myopia (nearsightedness) has been on the rise since the

early 70s.  By 2050 it is estimated that as high as 50% of the population will be nearsighted.  Managing myopia to slow progression can reduce risks associated with high myopia such as retinal detachments, glaucoma, or myopic macular degeneration. Dr. Wilder can discuss options to slow myopia progression and keep your child’s eyes healthy for the long term.   If your child plays sports, good vision is essential for coordination, depth perception, and safety. Pediatric eye exams can help ensure their eyesight supports both academic and athletic success. Options like sports goggles, daily contacts, or orthokeratology (ortho-k) lenses can provide clear vision without getting in the way of your child’s active lifestyle.

Don’t worry if your child feels anxious about their eye exam. The team at Coastal Family EyeCare is great with kids and knows how to make the experience relaxing and enjoyable. Many children even leave saying they had a fun time! And if your child needs glasses, they have a fantastic selection of fun colors and styles that they’ll love to wear

Healthy vision helps children explore their world, connect with others, and perform their best at school and play. Regular eye exams are a simple yet powerful way to support your child’s success and well-being. At Coastal Family Eye Care, they specialize in pediatric eye health and make the process fun, friendly, and stress-free. Whether it’s your baby’s first checkup or your teen’s annual visit, their team is here to help your child see clearly and thrive.

Delivering Joy

No Dog Left Behind

Meet Joe Naron, a FedEx driver whose journey began in 2017 after spending 13 years in retail.

What started as a simple endeavor to snap selfies with the dogs he encountered has blossomed into a heartwarming mission. Inspired by the joy these furry friends brought, he began sharing videos on TikTok, capturing genuine moments that resonated with viewers. He never anticipated turning a passion into a source of income, yet the funds quickly transformed from dog treats to something much bigger.

With the Baldwin County Animal Shelter on his route, he decided to sponsor adoption fees for the dogs that had been overlooked the longest, ensuring they finally had their moment in the spotlight.

His videos showcase authentic interactions, steering clear of scripted content.

“So many people share the worst parts of their day; I focus on the best,” he says. That connection with dogs is special, they don’t see him as just a delivery guy but as a friend bringing joy. He recalls a touching moment

when a customer’s dog became upset after he didn’t stop by one day, prompting him to make “unscheduled deliveries” of pets and treats whenever possible.

Recognizing the challenges faced by heartworm-positive dogs, he expanded his mission. After years of saving, he funded treatment for all heartworm-positive dogs at the shelter, demonstrating his commitment to those often overlooked. His efforts have inspired others in the community, leading to collaborations with additional shelters.

Joe’s message is simple: “One person can’t change the world, but together we can change our communities.” He encourages everyone to get involved, whether through volunteering or simply sharing posts about shelter dogs. His future aspirations include hosting adoption events and visiting various shelters, all while continuing to inspire others to make a difference, one wagging tail at a time. And as Joe says, “we all have the power to make a difference.”

RAISING A Happy Homestead

Recently, we had the pleasure of catching up with Kayla and Hunter Green of Fort Morgan, Alabama, a vibrant, faith-filled family on a mission: raising healthy, happy kids while staying grounded in God’s grace, family, and the simple joys of homesteading.

Kayla and Hunter’s growing family includes Emersyn (6), Emerald (2), Sage (16 months), and Coral (4 months). Nestled in their little slice of paradise along the Gulf Coast, the Greens are committed to nurturing not only their children but also their livestock, flock of chickens, and ever-expanding garden. It’s a lifestyle rooted in love, intention, and a desire to live more fully in tune with nature.

Kayla recalls the pivotal moment that started it all: “It all started when we picked up a bag of chips and decided to read the label.” What they found was eye-opening—additives, GMOs, dyes, preservatives, and chemicals not just in processed foods, but in everyday items like meat, dairy, fruits, and vegetables. That moment ignited a mission to reclaim their health by growing their own food and shopping consciously.

Rooted in Grace: The Green Family’s Homesteading Journey in Fort Morgan, Alabama

“Even when our homestead falls short,” Kayla says, “we are still aware of the labels on our food. My husband and I started shopping mostly the outer perimeter at the grocery stores.” Their journey reflects a deep desire to steward their bodies and their land, ensuring their family is nourished by food that’s wholesome, organic, and as close to the source as possible.

As a homeschooling mom of four, three under the age of three, Kayla embodies strength, resilience, and unwavering faith. Her days are full, but her heart is fuller.

The Green family remains deeply rooted in their community through The Island Church, where they actively share their harvest with friends, neighbors, and family, living out their values of generosity and connection.

Currently, the Greens care for a small flock of chickens, a few cattle, and a flourishing garden. Their homesteading dreams are far from finished, they plan to continue expanding, step by step.

Their advice to others looking to follow a similar path is simple but profound. “Just start. Start small, start unknowingly, but start.”

It’s a reminder that every journey begins with one intentional step—whether that’s reading a food label, planting a seed, or sharing eggs with a neighbor.

Through it all, Kayla and Hunter give thanks to God for the opportunities each day brings. “None of this would be achievable without His guidance in being able to get back into knowing the food He originally intended for us to be able to nurture our bodies.”

Living along the beautiful beaches of Fort Morgan, the Green family has found their rhythm: raising chickens, growing food, nurturing children, and embracing the grace of everyday life. Their story is a beautiful testimony of faith, family, and the powerful act of returning to our roots.

The Green family embodies strong family values, prioritizing health and happiness as they nurture their four children while fostering a close bond. They are committed to sustainable living and a lifelong relationship with God.
