When Waref Hawasli moved back to his hometown of Grosse Pointe in 2014, he purchased a foreclosed home on Kenwood Road with the goal of fixing it up and moving into it. “It was supposed to be a one-off experi ence, but I fell in love with the process,” he says. “I ran the job myself. I found tradespeople, and I did some of the work myself, from the demo and laying tile to flooring and painting.” Afterward, it became a passion for him to take neglected homes and find creative ways to add beauty and value to them. “I was not your typ ical speculative developer, though,” says Waref. “My approach was more about taking a property and adding a tremendous amount of value to it while always envisioning my family living there. And in the early years, we moved into every single home.”
The architecture, says Waref, could be consid ered European Colonial meets modern master piece, and it’s entirely built of limestone, which
Luckily, his wife Danielle, also a Grosse Pointe native, went along with it. “She is such an incredi ble person in my life,” he says. “She understood my vision and supported it from day one, even though it was challenging at times, picking up and moving over and over again.”
In 2017, Waref, a licensed residential builder and real estate developer, opened Hawasli Homes in Grosse Pointe Farms. His company now builds many new homes, including a forever home in Grosse Pointe for himself, Danielle, and their three daughters, 6-year-old Sienna, 3-year-old Sydney, and 1-year-old Summer.
“It’s just a beautiful home,” says Waref. “I wanted to make it appear as if it had been there for hun dreds of years. Many people think it’s an extraordi nary renovation or a restoration.”

These views add a beauti ful visual impact and allow you to enjoy the sunrises and ultimately feel Grosse Pointe's charm.”

Powell has been a member of Tau Beta for 26 years and is excited to co-chair the event with Julie Kaiser, who joined the association in 2018. clothing, men’s clothing, needlepoint, winter, fall outdoor gear, memorable handmade plates, personalized gifts, pet goods, hostess gifts, and so much more.
On Friday and Saturday, a lunch buffet will also be available for shoppers on the lower level of the Club. Raffle tickets for great gifts such as a gorgeous green agate and diamond pendant and a fabulous night out on the town will also be sold. Powell and Julie both live in Grosse Pointe and have children of their own, and find volunteering with Tau Beta very rewarding.

The Fall Market is an event for the whole community. The Preview Party on Thursday night will feature live music, a signa ture cocktail, open bar, and hors d’oeuvres. “People tend to think that the Preview Party is a ladies’ night, but I will say from experi ence that my husband always comes and has a blast,” says Powell.
“It’s a group of really great women,” says Julie. “I like to volunteer for worthwhile causes and give back to children, and Tau Beta checks those boxes.”

“I can’t wait to see the new vendors and our amazing returning vendors,” says Margaret. “It always inspires me to start shopping for the holidays, birthdays, hostess gifts, etc. There is always something unique for every occasion.” Adds Kathy, “Fall Market is the perfect venue to bring all the hard-working and devoted Tau Beta members together for an evening of camaraderie, shopping, and fundraising for The Children’s Center. It has become a ‘Fall Favorite’ in our Grosse Pointe community.”
The Club, with its view of Lake Saint Clair, is a gorgeous setting where to shop. Since the Preview Party averages 250 attendees with another 250 each additional day, plus 21 vendors on site (including seven new ones), the large Club allows a seamless and pleasurable shopping experience.

Hugh T. Keyes built many signi cant houses across Metro Detroit and was a proli c designer of ne homes in the Grosse Pointes. Keyes was arguably one of the most diverse architects to ply his trade in the community. His work centered on creating grand estates for the industrialists of Metropolitan Detroit and he was considered one of the most versatile architects to work in southeastern Michigan. Prior to 1930, Keyes was heavily in uenced by Tudor, French Renaissance, and formal Georgian styles.

344 Provencal, completed in 1929, was built for real estate tycoon Henry P. Williams and his wife Elma C. Mennen (heiress to the Mennen personal grooming products fortune). A ectionately known as “Mennen Hall” the 8,496 sq ft residence is a stately brick built Tudor Revival home. It has superb detailing on the brickwork, striking leaded-glass windows on the rst oor, along with unique arched chimney caps.
