Style Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
September 2026 PUBLISHER
Scott Gilcrest | scott.gilcrest@citylifestyle.com E D I TO R
Julie Brown Patton | julie.patton@citylifestyle.com
I feel like anyone but me should be writing this, but here we go! Style is definitely not my forte. Anyone who knows me, or has seen my house, my wardrobe or my hairstyle, can certainly attest to that, but fortunately I'm surrounded by great partners and businesses who were able to put this edition together. Oh, and my editor who brings me back on course almost daily. Style is such a personal thing and the variations are intriguing. Something as minor as a color can look amazing to one person and horrific to someone else. I've never understood this; is it a difference in our eyes? Do blue-eyed people view things differently than brown-eyed folks? According to ChatGPT, the answer is no, but I'm not buying it. How else can you explain that someone bought that color of car, but I digress. Obviously your age and upbringing will play a role in determining your personal style whether that be in clothing, your home or your hair, but even people of similar age, growing up in the same area under similar circumstances, can have vastly different style preferences, and I'm here for it. Differences make the world more interesting. A lack of personal style reminds me of George Orwell's 1984 for those of us who remember it. A very bland and non-unique world. With the help of our fabulous partners we've been able to hit just about every aspect of style in this edition. Whether you relate to what's highlighted or it's way out of your comfort zone, please dive into this magazine with an open mind, and maybe something will reach out to you. You may see something that grabs your attention and changes the way you present yourself. For me, it will hopefully bring me out of the 80s that I so dearly miss. As always, thank you to our contributing partners and especially you, our readers, for making Greenwood City Lifestyle the "go-to" publication on the Southside. I hope you enjoy this Style-themed edition.

Gameday Men’s Health Now Offers NuvoCell Biologics For Mobility Benefits
Isabella Freshour’s design was selected as winner of the most recent Color the County mural on Hadwell Hardware in Trafalgar. Isabella’s mural concept uses postage stamps to encapsulate different parts of Trafalgar and Indiana. Each stamp highlights something important to small-town life, such as farmland, nature, neighborhoods and local traditions. She’s a Johnson County resident and student studying visual communication design at IU Indianapolis Herron School of Art and Design. For ongoing details, visit JCCF.org/mural-program.
NuvoCell regenerative support products work through advanced topical creams and serums designed for around-the-clock joint comfort, mobility and anti-aging. The Gameday Men’s Health team in Bargersville indicate the products reflect a straight-forward, two-step system through an ‘AM formula’ for daytime movement or support and a ‘PM formula’ for recovery while resting. NuvoCell products are distributed through approved health clinic provders, like Gameday. This dual-system is a non-invasive way to support the body’s natural regeneration processes.

In many smaller towns, businesses become part of a community's story, and one entrepreneurial family continues writing an inspiring chapter in Greenwood. For 36 years before retiring, Teresa Dillard operated one of the largest Hallmark stores in the United States, right in Greenwood. Teresa’s Hallmark was a successful business where visitors and employees felt at home shopping for Hallmark classics and were served by a team that put shoppers’ needs first. The spirit of community and business ownership inspired Teresa’s daughter, Sara Brianne Slaughter, to team up with her mother, Teresa, to open Brianne’s Boutique in 2011, bringing the same welcoming atmosphere of a gift and collectibles store to women’s clothing. Now, as the boutique marks its 15th anniversary this month, it's transforming and expanding into the former Hallmark store, introducing new brands, experiences and innovative spaces. CONTINUED >

Faux leather and suede will add texture to a perfectly “Brianne's grand re-opening was a huge success,” states Sara. “We've seen many familiar faces and lots of new ones. The response has been overwhelmingly positive regarding our product mix, store layout and overall experience." She adds that one of the key reasons for positive feedback is their customer-focused approach to design and customer satisfaction. The two-story shopping boutique features seven dressing rooms for shoppers to try on their selections before taking them home. Stocked with the latest in apparel, shoes, jewelry, handbags and accessories, the store offers trend-setting brands such as Charlie B, Judy Blue, Kendra Scott, Nora Fleming, Bogg Bag, Ambre Blends and Brighton. “Since the store’s opening, we've added brands like Kut denim, Vionic, Born shoes and Enewton,” she explains.
NEW THIS FALL
As the seasons change, Sara shares that she's enthused about new customer experiences, combined with some carryovers from the Hallmark store. “We're already planning our fall clothing collections and holiday wonderland. For example, in late September, we're launching a Liverpool ShopN-Shop with 300 square feet solely dedicated to Liverpool denim, jackets and tops.” And if customers are looking for a wardrobe update to stay current with the latest trends, Sara has a few tips. “Brown and plum are everywhere. You'll often see them paired with blue or black. Faux leather and suede will add texture to a perfectly styled fall outfit. Accessorizing with a belt and a colorful necklace is a must. Chunky, waterproof jewelry will be popular for fall.”

styled fall outfit. Accessorizing with a belt and a colorful necklace is a must.”
Entrepreneurship continues to drive the family to give Greenwood unique shopping experiences. Sara and her husband, Jacob, are now expanding their retail vision to create a men’s store in the former space Brianne’s Boutique called home. In fact, they went to market to purchase future merchandise for the men's store during the last two weekends in July, and the women's during the week of Aug 9. Collier Outfitters is planned to open by Oct. 1. Sara shares the couple’s concept: “We're creating a mix of everyday casual wear and easy styles for the office or date night. Some of our brands include Kuhl, Travis Mathew, Mizzen & Main, 7 Diamonds, Flag & Anthem and Johnston & Murphy.” “Once we open, customer feedback will help shape our style direction,” Sara explains.
Jacob will be involved in daily operations, managing the team, ordering products and marketing. He says they're enthused to offer something not available in the area: a store dedicated solely to quality men's clothing and gifts, with old-school customer service.” “Locating Collier Outfitters next to Brianne's Boutique means men and women can make both stores part of their shopping routine and visit them together,” says Sara. “We're so happy to offer this much-needed concept to the community and our customers.” BriannesBoutique.com

REDESIGNING Homes FOR EVOLVING Lifestyles Duke Renovations Team Makes Renovation Experiences Organized, Customized And As Seamless As Possible
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANGELA JACKSON AND JAKE DUKE As a design-build remodeling company headquartered in Bargersville, Jeff Cox, Duke Renovations vice president of renovation operations, says the team's overarching goal remains the same, no matter size or scope of a project: to understand clients’ needs and deliver finished spaces that exceed their expectations. "Whether we're designing a custom pool and outdoor living environment, transforming a kitchen, renovating a primary suite, constructing a home addition, remodeling an entire home or finishing a basement, every project receives the same level of thoughtful planning, meticulous attention to detail and commitment to excellence," assures Jeff. He says the team believes every home should reflect the unique character and priorities of whomever lives there. "Through collaborative planning, transparent communication and exceptional craftsmanship, we transform existing spaces into homes that provide lasting beauty, comfort, functionality and value for years to come." Perhaps most importantly, Jeff says they take the time to understand how clients live, what they value most and how they envision using their home both presently and in future years. To handle each unique remodeling project, the Duke Renovations process begins with an in-home consultation. Jeff says meeting with clients in their own space allows the team to understand clients' visions firsthand while evaluating the home's existing conditions. He adds that after scoping the exact space, a preliminary budget range is provided to determine any scope adjustments and next steps. Once clients proceed, a Professional Services Agreement is established regarding architectural design, associated fees and an initial deposit. Jeff says detailed field measurements of the home are taken. Once initial designs are complete, they are reviewed with client

for feedback. Finalized and approved designs are converted into detailed construction drawings that serve as the foundation for accurate pricing. Jeff adds that bids are solicited from multiple trusted trade partners so a comprehensive proposal can be presented to clients to outline the project scope, specifications and investment. A construction agreement follows, after which a dedicated project manager is assigned to the renovation. That manager conducts a pre-construction meeting with trade partners to coordinate schedules and establish expectations before work begins. CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . Simultaneously, the team works with clients to finalize all finishes, fixtures, appliances and material selections. "Communication remains a priority throughout projects. Clients receive weekly progress updates along with a two-week look-ahead schedule, so they always know what to expect. Milestone walkthroughs are conducted as major phases are completed, ensuring quality and addressing any questions along the way," explains Jeff. Upon completion of construction, a comprehensive, final walkthrough produces a detailed punch list. The company's renovations team includes experienced project managers, architectural designers and interior designers who work seamlessly together to deliver finished spaces that are both beautifully designed and expertly built. Jeff says a servant-hearted philosophy is foundational to the staff's culture and guides the way they approach relationships with integrity, professionalism, collaboration and genuine care. "Each renovation is unique, so there's no onesize-fits-all approach to budgeting or planning. We develop a customized scope and pricing strategy for each client based on their specific goals, home and project requirements," confirms Jeff. For many homeowners, the decision to renovate rather than move is about much more than the house itself. It's about preserving memories created in a home, remaining on property they love or staying connected to a neighborhood. Jeff says often the location still meets homeowners' needs; it's the home that no longer supports the way they live. For many homeowners, the most challenging aspect of renovations is not the construction itself, but the disruption it can bring to everyday life. Because many of Duke Renovations' clients choose to remain in their homes throughout the renovation process, Jeff says they take a proactive, well-planned approach to minimizing inconvenience and maintaining as much normalcy as possible. The team also uses protective measures, such as zip wall barriers, floor covering and carefully planned staging areas to help contain dust, maintain cleanliness and keep materials organized and out of the way. Clear, consistent communication is one of the linchpins of creating positive renovation experiences, concludes Jeff.

ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON PHOTOGRAPHY BY SCOTT GILCREST
Imagine ecstatic results from reinforcing every hair follicle through individualized solutions that enable hair to be stronger, full and resilient while also retaining moisture and the proper texture. One hair salon team in Greenwood is rooted in assisting clients with essential strategies to achieve terrific tresses, not just in imagination but also in reality. Healthy hair journeys present several beneficial decision opportunities, asserts Sandra Dee "Sandy" Johnson, founder/operator of Shine Hairspa LLC, a full-service hair salon that includes customized treatments for scalp

"We believe luxury is found in details. Every guest is welcomed with thoughtful, complimentary comforts to transform salon appointments into relaxing, spalike escapes. During our signature scalp therapy and Shine Hairspa services, every touch is intentionally designed for relaxation." analysis, detoxing, refreshing, deep conditioning and revival hair care. "While we provide full haircuts, color, highlight and blow-dry services, we also offer scalp facials and five spa add-ons for some of the most relaxing, helpful spa experiences as part of a thorough self-care plan," Sandra Dee explains. "We go by a treatment-first philosophy to care for guests in holistic ways." Within the eight-chair salon at Greendale Centre, next door to Lane Bryant at the cross section of US31 and Fry Road, clients receive complimentary toasty-temperature towels; self-warming eye masks; cozy, weighted and heated neck wraps; and shampoo bowls specially designed to be ergonomically comfortable to necks. Sandra Dee adds, "Guests are also invited to enjoy complimentary beverages and snacks, with handcrafted, seasonal mocktails available for purchase, creating an elevated hospitality experience from start to finish. It’s these personalized touches and commitment to exceptional guest care that make every visit to Shine Hairspa feel less like a salon appointment and more like a retreat." She says their offerings are perfect fits for self-enjoyment appointments, medical post-recoveries, menopausal-induced hair conditions or thinning, baldness in men, as well as surprise gifts to others, such as for birthdays or special occasions. "We take the time to help people understand what hair-related causes and effects are. They really appreciate finally speaking to experts who explain possible steps and why to select certain choices, rather than just moving quickly through routine haircare services." One of the most misunderstood Shine Hairspa offerings, however, is the "scalp facial," according to Sandra Dee, who recalls creating a business plan specifically
about healthy hair as early as 2011. She graduated from Paul Mitchell The School Greenwood at age 39. She launched the salon in a sunroom studio on the Southside during April 2012 to make truly healthy hair happen for others. She opened the current location during 2023 to continue evolving in space and hair healthy services, including a nail station. To be clear, a scalp facial is a specialized spa treatment that cleanses, exfoliates and nourishes the skin on one's head. It works similiarly to a facial for the face, but instead targets roots and scalp skin to improve hair health. “A healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. Our signature scalp facial/head spa is designed to deeply cleanse the scalp, remove buildup, improve circulation and create the healthiest possible environment for hair follicles to thrive. While no treatment can promise new hair growth, a healthy scalp is essential for supporting stronger, fuller-looking hair over time. When paired with targeted home care, nutritional support and our 90-day hair wellness programs, many guests notice healthier hair, improved scalp comfort and increased hair density," promises Sandra Dee. “What makes our scalp facial/head spa experience unique is that guests don’t have to choose between wellness and beauty." She adds that their scalp/head facials conclude with a professional blow-dry and style, so guests leave feeling relaxed, refreshed and confident. The salon's newest addition is a private, esthetics room dedicated to facials and waxing upper bodies. Collectively, this staff handles bobs, butterfly cuts, ghost layers, debulking, grey blending, pixies, coloring, long hair styles, creative cuts, mullets, shags, men's cuts, neckline cleanups, cuts and styles for toddlers and young children, bangs only, volume blowouts, corrective color solutions, curled or CONTINUED >

straightening styles, gel spa manicures, hair style makeovers, waxing, seasonal facials and botanical skin solutions. For "thirsty, stressed or damaged" hair, they also have nourishing masques cocktailed with a "VitalShot," which is a bond rebuilder and instant keratin booster for reparative remedy. Clients also can book "Spa Days" during which photos can be taken to help in diagnosing and monitoring hair loss or other scalp conditions. Arm and hand massages can be included, as well as massages for necks and shoulders. For dry, over-worked hands, they offer a warm, vegan-collagen intensive treatment. Additionally, Shine Hairspa specialists can provide scalp therapy waterfall experiences during which cool metal fingertips stimulate the scalp as warm water cascades above and a heated eye mask gently comforts the eyes. This waterfall immersive ritual enhances blood flow, stimulates the scalp and purifies follicles. To top off the variety of beneficial services, Shine Hairspa also is a Keratin Complex elite salon, which means they carry professional, signature keratin-infused smoothing treatments designed to eliminate frizz, repair hair damage, maximize shine and reduce daily styling time. Keratin Complex is a revolutionary haircare brand founded in 2007, using keratin, the natural protein found in human hair. In fact, Sandra Dee is a Keratin Complex national educator for that Florida-based company. "Products from Keratin Complex are natually derived from New Zealand sheeps' wool, which is primarily made of protein. Other types of keratin are chemically made and can break off hair over time if not applied properly or overused," she says.
Other brands this team trusts include Phyto Paris, Artego Touch, Goldie Locks, select Paul Mitchell, Leaf & Flower CBD, Decibel, CND Nails and Herbal Skin Solutions. A convenient, annual VIP membership program at the salon enables clients to receive a 10% discount year-round on treatments, facials and retail products for hair, skin and nails, no limits. Plus, members can redeem 12 scalp therapy waterfalls at no charge. Additionally, there are five specials for new clients that encompass haircuts, color services, blowouts and one of the salon's 35 unique hair treatments. Sandra Dee shares that these specials are offered at four price levels so various plans can be individually established. The salon's certified team also has in-house deals, weekly promotions and holiday specials. "Every other salon would want to do what we do, because we totally understand the give and take we all have with our hair," confirms Sandra Dee, who also serves as the grey-blending specialist. 463.300.5893 ShineHairSpa.com

Grill In Style Big Green Egg Products Available From Angie's Pool And Spa ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON | PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF ANGIE'S POOL AND SPA One of the most versatile barbecue and outdoor cooking systems on the market is embodied in the Big Green Egg products line. Luckily for Greenwood/Franklin regional residents, Angie's Pool and Spa is an authorized dealer for these sought-after items.
Big Green Egg Grills The nesting system ranges in grill sizes, from mini and minimax to 2XL. These cookers function as grill, smoker or oven. The system comes with options for metal stands on wheels and interlocking metal frames to build outdoor modular workstations. There also are acacia tables or custom islands and cabinetry designed to house an Egg device safely as a built-in centerpiece. Big Green Eggs size ranges cover times for tailgating, camping, weeknight meals, family entertaining and heavy-duty food preparation for large crowds.
Accessories The Big Green's "convEGGtor" is a ceramic heat deflector for indirect cooking, baking pizza or slow-smoking. The EGGspander Kit is a multilevel rack system to expand cooking space and allow simultaneous multizone cooking to season the ceramic body of a Big Green Egg. By the way, Big Green Eggs don’t require seasoning, or curing of the surface, so new owners can cook their first meals immediately. The corresponding Pigtail Meat Flipper is designed to turn and lift food instead of using standard spatulas or tongs.

The Big Green Egg was launched in 1974 by founder Ed Fisher in Atlanta, Georgia. He reportedly gave it that name because he enjoyed a bigger cooker and its oval design was modeled on the ancient Asian kamado cooker to optimize superior thermal dynamics, even heat circulation and exceptional moisture retention. He painted it green to accentuate its uniqueness. "The Surprise" multigenerational storytelling campaign by Big Green Egg corporate staffers was launched during July 2026 to accentuate live-fire cooking as an emotional family tradition.
Reva Long, director of administration for Angie's Pool and Spa, says they've carried Big Green Egg ceramic cookers and products since 2022. Reva says customers revel in taking their grilling games to the next level with the Big Green Egg ecosystem, all in their personal styles. "We host Smokin' Fridays during the month of May for our customers to sample a variety of flavors and to showcase the versatile cooking methods this grill has to offer. We also share recipes and tips weekly on our social media," she adds. 317.881.1257 AngiesPools.com
Seasonings, Spices, Rubs, Sauces Discover bold, flavorful blends and savory sauces to put a personalized spin on grilling or cooking. Big Green Egg offers a variety of signature dry rubs and seasonings designed to enhance meats, seafood and vegetables. Popular options include Sweet & Smoky, Savory Pecan, Ancho Chili & Coffee, Citrus & Herb and a Competition Series set that includes an SPG (salt, pepper, garlic) blend. Sauces encompass Kansas City Style Sweet & Smoky, Sweet Kentucky Bourbon Grilling Glaze and Ed's Famous Wing Sauce.
Fueling Signature Styles Angie's Pool and Spa locations offer Big Green Egg all-natural lump charcoal, smoking chunks and chips, grill lighters and fire starters. The Big Green speed-start lighting blocks are designed specifically for clean, chemical-free flavors. Leftover unburned charcoal can be stirred, mixed with a little fresh fuel and relit for the next cook. The brand’s charcoal offers oak, hickory, hardwood and Canadian maple flavor profiles, along with weather-proof charcoal bag.
