Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!

OK, the big race is actually behind us, but it's still racing season and this is the Gentlemen's edition so I'm just running with it. So much of what we write about on a monthly basis revolves around the ladies so this is our opportunity to focus on the guys. It's kind of like how we men get to decorate the garage and basement, or are in charge of the yard. This magazine is it; this is "our thing."

As a child and younger man I remember a time when the man's man was an actual thing. Surrounded by such iconic figures as Chuck Norris, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds and The Marlboro Man (no, I'm not advocating smoking). Driving muscle cars and Harley Davidsons were cool. Quarterbacks were fair game, and you could make contact with the catcher. But times changed. Aston Kutcher, Justin Timberlake and The Biebs became the standard. We started protecting the quarterback, giving participation trophies and men started getting pedicures. Now I have some friends who get pedicures and swear by them, but I just can't see Clint or Chuck picking out a clear polish. The trades were traded in for content creation and military enlistment hit an all time low. It honestly just seemed like the world around us has softened.

Now please don't misunderstand me. I definitely see some benefits in the shift, but I think everything should be in moderation. There should be a happy medium and that's what I think we're starting to see now. The trades are becoming popular again. There's a resurgence in the muscle car market. Older generations are hitting the gym in record numbers, and in short, men are becoming more manly. This can be a good thing as long as it's in moderation. Balance is the key to everything, so go get that manicure, but for pete's sake, know how to change a tire. Go eat your sushi but hold the door for the lady and pull out her chair. Don't take the quarterback's head off but certainly make him think about running the ball again. Everything in moderation.

As always, thank you to our partners and to you, our readers. I hope you enjoy this "Gentlemen's edition" of Greenwood City Lifestyle. Now go clean out your garage.

EMPOWERING MEN'S

Vitality, Longevity

GAMEDAY MEN'S HEALTH CUSTOMIZED TREATMENT PLANS OFFER CONFIDENCE, ENERGY, PERFORMANCE — ALL BACKED BY SCIENCE

Every man benefits from having control over his well-being. Gameday Men’s Health is a holistic, diagnostic-anchored health care company created to guide men in hormone replacement therapy through personalized treatments. The Bargersville clinic team, located at 5116 IN-135, Ste. G, says they stand ready to help clients with individual goals.

Led by medical director/Bargersville Gameday operator Matt Steiner, M.D., he states that men within the company's treatment community say the most rewarding parts of HRT are: not feeling exhausted; recalibrating a body's balance; decreased anxiety; less overall irritability; improved mental clarity; and significantly maximized calmness.

As someone who's worked in emergency medicine for 30-plus years and eight years in men's health, Dr. Steiner assures, "We go beyond routine checkups to address the full picture of a man's well-being: physical, mental and lifestyle. We offer tailored care; on-site lab testing; ongoing support; flexible appointments; comfortable spaces and life-changing treatments."

He says he became interested in Gameday because the services allow him to treat men who are experiencing age-related issues. "We've all heard from our doctors and others, 'You're getting older; you just have to learn to live with it.' I feel that as medical professionals, we have the science and medicine to help with our aging process. I especially like the Gameday model of providing specific plans for patients while monitoring them closely to ensure effectiveness," he adds.

"It's my goal to help patients achieve a high quality of life with energy and vitality. As a physician, I feel I have a very good perspective on what patients go through and I'll never turn away anyone seeking medical care. I feel strongly that everyone deserves a medical evaluation to see what I can do to help."

GAMEDAY MAJOR SERVICE CATEGORIES INCLUDE:

• Hormone Optimization: This therapy boosts energy, strength and clarity through medically supervised TRT.

• Medical Weight Loss: This service burns stubborn fat, increases metabolism, decreases inflammation and helps achieve ideal body weights.

• Peptides: This treatment applies FDA-approved synthetic amino acid peptides to build lean muscle, help with tendon repair, assist with workout recovery and bolster the body's immune system. Peptides also can yield better sleep and increase healthy hair, skin and nails.

• GAINSwave : This shockwave therapy is a non-surgical treatment that uses sound waves to help heal soft tissue injuries by improving blood circulation, breaking up scar tissue and stimulating the body's natural healing responses. Dr. Steiner says it's the only hyperfocused ultrasound machine of its kind in Indiana.

Gameday Men's Health originally was created by founder Evan Miller, Ph.D., with the purpose of helping men optimize their health so they can reclaim their lives to the fullest. The company is now supported by a board of directors comprised of 13 board-certified specialists, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and emergency medicine professionals. Since opening the clinic, Dr. Steiner say it's been amazing to see the changes in patients' health and fitness levels. In one case, he says they picked up a patient's prostate cancer at a very early stage from the clinic's PSA screening. "He was told he had stage 2 prostate cancer and it was ready to spread into the rest of his body. We were so fortunate he came in for medical evaluation. He was able to see a urologist and now he is cancer-free," adds Dr. Steiner.

Additionally, Gameday’s medical clinic is designed to provide ultimate 'man cave' experiences, with big screen TVs and decorated in a sports-oriented manner, offering a welcoming alternative to sterile doctor’s offices, he asserts.

Dr. Steiner says they offer complimentary consultations for personal evaluations for those 18 years and older, or if younger, with parental consent; no referral is required, however, appointments do need to be scheduled.

Usually the first two or three questions men ask as new patients, according to Dr. Steiner, are: how to regain vitality that's been decreasing for some time; how to lose the weight; and how to treat recent injuries or pain.

One of Dr. Steiner's patients, Roy Davis, 77, gives him great inspiration of how men should be in their 70s. "Roy's always been active, and fitness is very important to him. Since being on our Gameday HRT program, he's found renewed energy, and has been training for a special bicycle event called Ride Across Indiana. It's a 168-mile bicycle event that's done in one day. This year it'll be held on June 29," he says.

"You literally ride across the whole state of Indiana. I've also been training with him and will accompany him on his ride. It's a great example of how you don't have to 'merely live with your old age.'"

BUILDING COMMUNITY WEALTH

Here's How Dave Coffey Focuses On Helping Community First Banking Customers With A Smile And

A Purpose

HOW DID YOU START YOUR BANKING CAREER?

"My career in banking wasn’t planned. I started my career in direct insurance sales and realized it wasn’t the right fit. I called the Franklin College placement director and asked for assistance in finding another job. He discovered Union Federal Savings Bank was hiring. I didn't hesitate to send in my resume. After a great set of interviews, I started with them in October 1985."

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO COLLABORATE WITH LOCAL JOHNSON COUNTY BUSINESSES?

"During my time at Mutual Savings Bank, I've seen the great changes in Franklin and Johnson County. We work with local business leaders to coordinate loans or deposits that have helped stimulate those beneficial changes in our county. Our mission is to make dreams come true, surpass expectations and be the first choice for banking and financial needs. When small businesses succeed in Franklin, it becomes a great and safe place to live."

WHAT DRIVES YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN LEADERSHIP JOHNSON COUNTY?

"The organization helps people become the best version of themselves. Not only have I been involved in Leadership Johnson County, but eight current Mutual Savings Bank employees and three board members have gone through the program. The program helps you learn how to collaborate and participate in leadership and the community. Helping people become the best version of themselves allows them

to succeed, stay in Johnson County and help grow the area."

WHAT QUALITIES MAKE YOU GOOD AT BEING A BANKING LEADER?

"Lead by example. I encourage my team members to participate in discussions and decisions. I also give credit where credit is due. By giving the team the ability to perform their roles, they thrive."

WHAT ARE A FEW LESSONS YOU'VE LEARNED ALONG THE WAY IN YOUR CAREER?

1. One of those lessons I learned from the Columbus North High School cross country coach, who said 'hard work beats talent, given time.' That’s true in sports and banking.

2. The second lesson is to be an every day person. Show up daily and make a difference in customers' lives. That requires preparation, sharpness and a willingness to help customers.

3. My third lesson is to be positive. I start every day by saying 'Today is a great day to…' This mentality helps foster a positive attitude in the business world.

4. Learn from mistakes. Everyone will make them, but learning from them makes people better. And be willing to laugh at yourself while you learn from mistakes.

5. Invest in your network. You never know when you will need your people. And thank people for helping you.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE HOBBIES?

"My wife and I raised a close family, so family time with my four kids and two grandkids is my favorite hobby. As a former high school and college athlete, I enjoy playing golf and boating on Lake Monroe."

DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE PLACES TO VISIT IN INDIANA?

"Madison, Indiana, is a beautiful river town with great walkability, and Lake Monroe is a great place for boating."

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE CLIENTS ABOUT FINANCIAL PLANNING IN 2026?

"I encourage employees to never leave any money on the table. Take all the matching opportunities in your employer’s programs as you can. It’s free money. Start this as soon as you can.

Next, build a three- to six-month rainy-day fund for your expenses. The best way to do this is to set aside small amounts of money early in your career.

Once you've taken advantage of the matching programs and have a rainy-day expense fund, you can start using discretionary funds for investment. We're living in a time when generational wealth is being transferred from older to younger generations. Invest those funds in multiple investments.

Find a community banker. You never know when you might need help from a banker for home equity loans or money market accounts."

Dave Coffey Has 41 years In Banking

He started his career at Union Federal Savings Bank, based in Indianapolis. He says he had great mentors in banking who taught him that focusing on customer service and helping people was the most important part of the job. "I still get excited to go to work each day and find unique ways to help clients."

Dave and his family relocated to Columbus for four years to gain more experience in a branch management role at Home Federal Savings Bank.

After four years in Columbus, he accepted a role with Mutual Savings Bank in Franklin and has been in Johnson County ever since.

All-N-1 Auto Detail And Reconditioning Gets Flooring Makeover By TAK Floor Coatings

Flooring!

All-N-1 Auto Detail And Reconditioning in Greenwood, owned by Robin Barkdull, recently underwent remodeling to install new flooring with a moisture vapor barrier base coat, followed by a full broadcast system, a double polyaspartic topcoat and finished with BallistiX Squire silicon-ceramic treatment for enhanced chemical and additional slip resistance.

Robin says, “We’re extremely pleased with the outcome. It’s brought a new level of pride to our shop. When customers walk in, there’s an immediate ‘wow,' the same reaction we strive for when they see their vehicle after it’s been meticulously finished.”

The new project was handled by the three owners of TAK Floor Coverings: Tyler Mauder, Aaron Kyle and Kyle O'Farrell.

Slip resistance is always a key consideration, Tyler affirms. "We incorporated a quartz broadcast into the topcoat, along with chemical slip-resistant additives, allowing us to strike the right balance between safety and cleanability."

One of the project's most unique aspects was the custom flake blend they designed, he adds. It was based on their Domino color, enhanced with additional white for increased light reflection, along with a holographic flake that creates a dynamic, high-end finish.

Challenges of this installation were twofold. This team confirms that achieving a consistent, monolithic topcoat requires a high level of precision. Aaron says this is the “money coat,” and any inconsistency can impact the final result. Second, balancing maximum traction with ease of maintenance is always a challenge. "There’s a fine line between providing a safe, walkable surface in wet conditions and maintaining a floor that’s easy to clean."

The full execution took approximately seven days, spread across two weeks.

"Given the demands of this environment, we took additional steps to ensure long-term durability. It was a true pleasure to install this system for All-N-1," says Aaron. "Our goal isn’t just to install a floor and walk away. Rather, we’re focused on delivering an experience. We want customers to feel confident they made the right choice, take pride in the finished product, and know they have a long-term partner they can rely on. Building lasting relationships is just as important to us as the quality of the floor itself, and we’re proud to stand behind both."

AllN1Indy.com 812.821.4335 TAKEpoxy.com

Robin Barkdull says the floor delivers a refined, light-reflective finish that elevates the entire space, while still being practical for day-to-day use.

STEVE SR. AND STEVE JR.: It Works!

IT'S TRULY A FAMILY AFFAIR AT STEVE'S FLOWERS & GIFTS
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SCOTT GILCREST
(L to R): Tricia and Steve Huth Jr., Linda and Steve Sr.

Family teamwork blossomed at Steve's Flowers & Gifts during 1973, and continues to bloom to this day like a finely curated bouquet. Founded by Linda and Steve Huth Sr., this floral business was joined by their son, Steve Huth Jr., and eventually his wife, Tricia. However, Steve Sr. says this legacy operation happened organically.

"My son grew up in the business, but it wasn't until he was a year away from graduating college with a business and computer technology degree that he decided he was interested in a delivery position at the shop as a summer job. Our employees hated to see him return to college after how hard he worked and how quickly he learned details about the business," recalls Steve Sr.

"Apparently, children absorb parental guidance and life lessons that you don't even realize they're soaking up! Once Steve graduated, he asked about joining the shop, and we thought it was wonderful. He settled in during 1998."

Looking back, it's good Steve Jr. joined the growing shop business. By 1976, Linda and Steve Sr. sought to expand from their original Indianapolis shop, so during 1982 opened a second location in Greenwood. They then in Indy had built a 7,000-square-foot shop at 3150 E. Thompson Road, including a greenhouse. Through expansions from 1999 to 2024, they twice added more space to the Indy location, and launched a third shop in Pendleton.

(L to R): Steve Huth Sr. and Steve Huth Jr. at Steve and Tricia's wedding.

The team now provides farm-fresh florals, wreaths, gifts and plants for birthdays, weddings, special occasions, sympathy and condolence observances. Gifts span throws, boutique clothes and chimes to balloons, sculptures and gourmet packages.

Steve Sr. says he, Linda, Steve Jr. and Tricia all take care of different aspects and departments of the business. At 77, Steve Sr. still relishes creating floral designs, being on the floor with customers and collaborating with the fellow designers. Linda shepherds the bookkeeping. Steve Jr. handles technology-based initiatives plus working with hospitals and funeral homes. Tricia manages sales.

"I really like to make sure we're all set with supplies for holidays," says Steve Sr. "Steve and I both like planning and organizing, and are quite similar in personality, however he likes to do more planning from a desk than I do. He entered the business at a time that became hard for me to keep up with computers so Linda and I appreciate all he does in that area."

When we don't agree on potential business decisions, our family talks it out. There are times when something doesn't go my way or someone else's way," shares Steve Sr. "But together we analyze and come up with collective ideas that become the right ideas because we've helped each other think of additional considerations."

"Our family has a strong passion for this floral business and serving our customers,

After seeing many family businesses dissolve and disappear due to no one in the next generation of a family being interested in them, Steve Sr. recommends to anyone who would like to own a business to seriously consider purchasing those family-founded operations. "We didn't push Steve into joining our business, and I think everyone should pursue their own interests. But, for anyone who grew up in a family business and wants as an adult to pursue a different type of enterprise than their family's business, it makes sense to acquire an established operation because it takes so many years to become profitable."

He says all four of their technical skills contribute to the business in different ways.

Even with working together five or six days a week, all four Huths indicate they can navigate within their 14,000-square-feet shop property without running into each other almost all day.

"Regarding boundaries between work and family balance, we really don't have a lot of bickering.

Is there a third generation in the future of Steve's Flowers & Gifts? Steve Sr. says their youngest of four granddaughters began working at the shop while she's attending Butler University. He may just have his flowers crossed!

"Yoga will give you perspectives you didn’t think about, opening your mind."

Yoga For Men

Focus On Core Stability, Body Control, Muscle Engagement: 'Try It. You’ll Love It.'

For men, yoga improves core strength, increases flexibility, reduces pain and enhances athletic performance, reminds Tim Hicks, StudioYOU Yoga instructor in Greenwood.

"Blending yoga practices into your life will enrich it, physically, mentally, spiritually and socially. Yoga communities are some of the tightest-knit you’ll be involved in," he explains.

Tim says 10 million men practice yoga. "Many yoga practitioners prefer a male teacher, because it's rare. It comes down to a difference in how flows are called and sequences are presented. I believe, as a man, showing a calm demeanor, concise direction, authenticity and a sense of humor can really help a male yoga instructor be great in this industry."

He says male yoga teachers bring unique combinations of masculine and feminine energy to the room, offering confident, affirming adjustments and a different dynamic.

Tim Hicks: "Men aren’t used to moving in the way yoga provides, and they don’t understand the benefits or believe they can do it."

"Yoga is cardio, just as effective as running for men looking for great heart workouts, with lower impact on bodies," Tim states. "I’m living proof yoga can provide strength. As a man, you can always incorporate weights into your yoga practice."

He says yoga provides valuable stretch recovery, which is why he started practicing it while lifting weights in the gym.

Among common stigmas men have about yoga, according to Tim, is yoga is just for women. "Men shy away from it, when in fact, men can realize a ton of benefits from the practice."

Two other misconceptions from men, he adds, are that yoga is "just stretching" and "woo-woo horoscope spiritual stuff."

Tim says men hesitate to try yoga because they believe they'll be seen as more “feminine” by their peers, and are intimidated to think about being outnumbered by women in class by 15-1 to 30-1. "Men tend to workout alone or with a friend, and women workout in larger, community groups," Tim concludes.

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST

Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short

Creative Director: Jen Birn

Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill

Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX

MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.

After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.

Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?

A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

THE QUIET STANDARD:

MIKE JOHNSON

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?

A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”

Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?

A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”

This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.
