December Joy Is A Feeling, Not Just A Season

"It's the most wonderful time of the year!" With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas a few weeks away, hopefully all of the "to-dos" are well under control. As we close out 2025, there's so much to get done. Making sure kids and grandkids are taken care of, holiday plans are formalized, work projects are wrapped up. You may be going on vacation or just taking time off to be with family and friends. There are decorations to put up, hopefully a little snow to shovel and making sure the kids are passing all their classes. There's definitely nothing like the holiday season. With as much joy and happiness as comes with being around family and friends, there's also a level of stress that accompanies it. We all deal with those stresses in different ways. Some of us deal quite nicely but for those that are a little more like me, we've put together some options for making this holiday season just a bit more enjoyable. Please find a way to take some time for yourself. Self care is really a thing, and it's important. Focus on what the true meaning of the season is, and find a way to relax and enjoy this time. Try something new, step out of your box and maybe you'll find something that really lights you up.

As always, I'd like to thank you, the readers, for the overwhelming support you've shown us this year. Greenwood City Lifestyle continues to flourish, and I hope we're putting out exceptional content that provides value, ideas and benefits to the community. Thank you to our partners for trusting us with your brands and assisting us in what we do. Finally, I'd like to thank my team. Without you, I'd be lost.

Have a joyous holiday season and I can't wait to see what 2026 brings.

GIVE PEACE Of Mind

Handle Holiday Stress With Assistance From Peace Family Counseling Professionals

"At Peace Family Counseling, we believe each client's the expert regarding their own lives and keeper of their story. When life’s circumstances leave someone feeling defeated, we help them find tools to get clarity and balance in their life, including navigating holiday stress," says director Lisa Franklin, LCSW.

Lisa Franklin,  LCSW

"Holidays can be particularly stressful for Highly Sensitive Persons (HSPs) because overstimulation can happen quickly with hectic schedules. My pro tip? See if you can cut expectations in half. Expected to be somewhere 6 hours, see if staying 3 would also work."

Lisa says Peace therapists commit to helping everyone find the right words to tell their personal story to restore peace in their life and relationships. "We're dedicated to healing the mind, spirit, heart and human relationships. And we're passionate about helping people go from feeling overwhelmed and shut down to empowered and in control."

The team says they pride themselves in walking alongside others without critiques or judgments.

"We provide therapy services for individuals, couples, children, teens and families, through a team of highly trained therapists whose values and vision of health are rooted in the Christian tradition," explains Lisa, who also conducts workshops for school teams, educators, pastors and parents.

Areas of the Peace team's expertise span anxiety/panic/depression; OCD; trauma/EMDR; grief/loss; sand tray/play therapy; spiritual formation/development; anger issues; substance abuse; abuse-related matters; relationship issues; and Highly Sensitive Persons (those who have an increased or deeper central nervous system sensitivity).

Sessions are 50-55 minutes in what Lisa assures is a safe, confidential environment to process and heal at 48 N. Emerson Ave., Ste. 650 in Greenwood.

Lisa assures the staff knows asking for help can be difficult or embarrassing, so most people avoid it for as long as possible. "We often tell clients a paraphrase of what Franciscan priest and author Richard Rohr says, 'what isn’t transformed is transmitted.' We know there's real courage in people deciding to face the pain of their past or present circumstances, and each therapist at Peace Family Counseling sees it as a great honor to be invited into people’s pain so they can feel better as soon as possible."

An additional way through which these professionals help others is by giving away a complimentary book of the month to those who register online for that opportunity.

"During holidays, maintain consistent routines even amid chaos. Give children advance notice before transitions, create a quiet space where they can decompress when overwhelmed and lower your expectations — behaviors often escalate when kids are overstimulated. Remember, connection before correction always works best."

"Holidays often stir emotional wounds from relationship ruptures and unmet expectations with family, friends and loved ones. Practicing emotional awareness, honoring your own needs and extending self-compassion can help soothe distress, fostering healing and balance during times of connection and transition."

"Concerned about your kids and cellphone use during the holiday season? It’s the right time to set and model expectations that might include techfree time. Discuss genuine, in-person connections and what that looks like with family and friends."

"Couples can promote healthy connections during holidays by communicating expectations early, setting shared priorities and protecting couple time. Be a united team through family and financial stress. Show small acts of affection, check in emotionally, manage expectations, practice self-care and focus on meaningful traditions over perfection to nurture closeness during the holidays."

"Dealing with perfectionism during holidays can ruin the fun. Set a 'good enough' goal for holiday tasks, like decorating or gift wrapping, and stop when it’s done, even if it’s not perfect. Your loved ones won’t remember the perfectness, they'll remember your joy and presence."

"During the holidays it can be easy to feel overwhelmed or frustrated due to unmet expectations or highly stressful situations. This is especially true for those dealing with addictive behavior. My pro tip is to practice communicating your expectations and needs early to avoid the higher risk of unhealthy coping that leads to relapses."

OFFERING BIBLE DISCOVERY TIPS

Jake Duke, Broker/ Owner At

Duke Collective,

Models Meaningful Way To Strengthen Relationships With Neighbors

As an international lead trainer and director of the Global Refugee Outreach for missionary nonprofit Biglife Global, Jake Duke brought that same heart-felt outreach to his neighbors. Starting in August, he's been hosting once weekly Bible study discussions via his home's patio.

"We come from different backgrounds in life, with various interests, some have a church home, some don't. But we discover new concepts about Jesus' examples, God and ourselves through small group discussions, honest interactions and open-ended attendance," he explains.

"Growing one at a time, we have 16 to 18 neighbors participating. And we're really getting to know each other so much better, also as a safe place for asking questions."

Jake says a Bible passage is highlighted at each gathering, followed by the following four questions:

1. What about the passage/reading was interesting?

2. What was challenging or hard to understand?

3. What does it teach us about who God is?

4. What does it reveal about people's hearts?

For Jake's assistance in replicating this, email jakeduke@ dukecollective.com.

LOOK, FEEL AND Perform Better

GRANT HAPPIER HEALTH
PRIME IV HYDRATION & WELLNESS GREENWOOD
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY SCOTT GILCREST
The Prime IV Hydration & Wellness Greenwood team.

From anti-aging wrinkle reduction to metabolism-boosting weight loss, clients can achieve the look they're working toward by allowing their bodies to heal themselves from the inside out, asserts Scott Cooper, co-owner of Prime IV Hydration & Wellness Greenwood at 704 South State Road 135, Ste. C, along with his wife, Julie Cooper, R.N., and Leanne Schlueter, D.C., owner of  Greenwood Family Chiropractic.

Estimates indicate that up to 92% of the US population is either chronically dehydrated or vitamin deficient, with most people not even realizing they are.

"We provide infused IV blends of vitamins and minerals to give cells the rapid access required for healing," Scott explains. "Even helpful in recharging brains, micronutrients like magnesium, B-complex and our amino acid blend work together to improve cognitive function, reduce stress and help people stay mentally sharp, even when life is pulling you in 10 directions."

However, IV therapy caters to people's various health goals and preferences. Primary reasons for visits can include rehydration, anti-aging benefits, energy-boosting treatments, weight loss/metabolism support, heat recovery, migraines and addressing acute health concerns such as immunity protection, illness recovery, skin health, jetlag and athletic performance. Many people include IV therapy as part of their pre- and post-surgery support and recovery plans.

(From L to R): Prime IV coowners Leanne Schlueter, D.C., Scott Cooper, Julie Cooper.

Water is the primary and most vital nutrient of every cell in the body. Acting first as a building material, water is fundamental to cell structure. Julie says even human bones consist of more than a third water. Water’s adhesion properties allow it to attach easily to other things, making it the perfect transporter. This allows vital nutrients, minerals and chemicals to get into cells for biological processes, and pull waste out of cells to the kidneys for elimination.

For bonuses, such as glowing skin, shiny hair and strong nail benefits, extra biotin can be added to fusions.

Julie says all treatments are offered within a welcoming atmosphere and personal consultations. "Clients feel pampered and relaxed as they recline in massage chairs, accompanied by cozy blankets and eye masks to enhance the overall wellness experience."

She says because human stomachs are made for digestion, there are many benefits of IV therapy as an alternative health-boosting option. "By swallowing nutrients, our stomach acid was made to destroy, break down and digest, so this means that oral vitamins, which are taken by mouth and have to make their way through your digestive system and get broken down before they’re absorbed by the kidneys and liver, are ineffective for quickly and completely replenishing vitamin stores. IV therapy delivers 100% of the nutrients we provide."

What type of person is a prime candidate for IV treatments? Julie says prime candidates are anyone who wants to improve their health or who desires to strengthen their immune systems. She adds, "We can also assist with improved energy and naturally supporting hormones. Almost everyone is a candidate for improved health at Prime IV, and we would love to create a wellness plan to optimize wellness."

"Enjoy a relaxing spa environment during which treatments are steps toward customized, optimal health that rejuvenates both body and mind."

IV therapy sessions are led by medically trained professionals, ensuring safety and customization to specific health needs for the most effective outcomes. Some clients state visits to Prime IV are holistic wellness experiences that stimulate all five senses, ensuring profound rest and relaxation.

Regarding new offerings coming in 2026, Julie, Scott and Dr. Leanne indicate they will have a new IV menu. Some of their IV drips will include NAD+ infusions [nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide]. They will continue to partner with clients through memberships. Dr. Leanne says as with anything, consistency is key when optimizing health and wellness.

"Whether one needs clarity, calm or energy, or all three, we’ve got you covered," vows Scott.

Uncorking A New Wine Label

Artist Series Wine Project Winner Revealed For Mallow Run Winery 20th Anniversary

Mallow Run Winery has hosted an Artist Series Wine project annually since 2012 for which a label is selected from among local artists' entries to display on a select bottle of wine. In honor of the winery's 20th anniversary this year, special wine label artwork was solicited for creations inspired by Mallow Run Winery's community, tasting room, history or special memories.

The artist with the 2025 winning, wraparound label design is Megan Crocker, an artist who resides in Greenfield. "I'm super happy about this. It's a huge honor," she assures.

She says her parents happily frequent Mallow Run in Bargersville, and encouraged her to enter the label competition.

The winery's staff held a formal recognition for Megan at their Handmade & Heartfelt Festival at The Sycamore on Nov. 9, with her signing bottles and selling prints of this work and others she has done.

Megan graduated during August 2020 at Indiana University-Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in drawing and illustration from the Herron School of Art + Design. She accepts commissioned artwork and also works as a youth services library assistant at Hancock County Public Library. She says she excels in working with traditional media, such as watercolor, graphite, charcoal and acrylic, but also is proficient with digital media.

Additionally, this self-professed "library lady" assembles lesson plans to teach art classes to community youths, including girl scouts.

For the Mallow Run Winery label competition, each artist could submit up to three, original works that were completed within the last five years, with an unframed size minimum 20-inch longest side, maximum 36-inch longest side. Acceptable media were two-dimensional works of oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel/colored pencil, pen and ink, charcoal or mixed media. No computer art, photographs, sculptures or reproductions were allowed.

Previous winners of this contest include:

• Pinot Grigio featuring label artwork by Patty Coulter

• Cabernet Sauvignon featuring label artwork by Marianna Richards

• Red Blend featuring label artwork by Patti Paris Owens

• White wine with label artwork by Nadine Najjar

• Red Blend featuring label artwork by Chuck Horsman

• Catawba featuring label artwork by Canary Artwork Stephanie McDairmant

• White Blend featuring label artwork by Greg Potter

• Red Blend featuring label artwork by Cheerie Joy

• Sauvignon Blanc featuring label artwork by Delaram Moghaddam

• Red Blend featuring label artwork by Rose Brenner

• White Blend featuring label artwork by Craig Mullins Megan, also known in art circles as Scorptopi (combination of being born a Scorpio in November and her favorite animal being octopi), relishes her winning label surrounding a white wine. She named her 15-by-20-inch acrylic creation "Sunset at Mallow." This and more of Megan's work can be viewed at Scorptopi.com

Run Winery is nestled within a family farm, which provides a cozy, rustic ambiance, often with live music. The group's 20th Anniversary Wine Series includes Moscato – 20th Anniv, as a return of a fan favorite with tropical mango, apricot and fresh peach flavors to make this a perfect wine around the pool or around the campfire, as well as Red Blend – 20th Anniv, a smooth, fruit-forward dry red made from an old favorite, Chancellor grapes. It has flavors of cherry and red raspberry shine through with no oak influence.
