Celebrating the People, Places, and Brands Defining Style in Greenwich

There’s something about fall that feels like a fresh start. As the air shifts and routines return, we find ourselves craving inspiration, not just in what we wear, but in how we live, travel, and connect. Our annual Style Issue celebrates just that: the beauty of personal expression in all forms.

This month, we’re honored to spotlight two incredible women whose stories redefine style from the inside out. Dr. Kim Nichols, a powerhouse dermatologist and business owner, shares how confidence and authenticity shape her approach to both beauty and leadership. And in a deeply personal feature, we introduce Julie, the founder of Love, Ellison, a jewelry brand inspired by her daughter’s legacy of love, adventure, and giving back.

For those dreaming of stylish spaces, don’t miss our feature with Beth Krupa, who proves that transformative design is about more than aesthetics, it’s about creating spaces that tell your story.

Our updated Style List is here too, with handpicked favorites to inspire your fall wardrobe and home refresh. And of course, we couldn’t forget your recipe of the month: a seasonal dish perfect for cozy September days.

As always, thank you for turning the pages with us. Here’s to a season of reinvention, and celebrating the style that’s uniquely yours.

THE STYLE LIST BY @MODE_T_

FALL 2025 FASHION TRENDS I’M USING RIGHT NOW

Hey! It’s Tanya, your stylist from ModeT. Fall is back, and I can’t wait to show you what I’m loving this season. Every new collection brings a whirlwind of must-haves, but let’s be honest, most of us just want styles that make sense for our everyday lives. We’re talking about pieces that feel great for running errands, a night out, heading to work, or just looking put together when you’re half-asleep!

We’re seeing sparkles, fringe, and animal prints all over those runways this fall (and I do love a little drama!). But when I style my clients or get dressed myself, I lean into pieces that feel good and fit seamlessly into daily routines, while still adding that special touch.

Here’s the scoop on what’s trending this season, along with real-life ways I’m styling these looks:

ANIMAL PRINT: JUST A TOUCH

Let’s talk leopard! If you love it, go bold. If not, just a hint can work wonders. I love adding animal print through accessories; think a belt, booties, or a printed coat over basics. Animal print can be surprisingly classic when styled right.

DENIM THAT FEELS MORE PUT TOGETHER

Fall denim is stepping up its game with darker washes, clean lines, and matching sets. I’m all about a chic denimon-denim look with a black turtleneck and sleek loafers, or tailored jeans and a belted blazer. No distressing or guesswork here; just easy styles you can wear on repeat.

MUST-HAVES

THE T-SHIRT DRESS THAT DOES IT ALL

You can’t go wrong with a t-shirt dress! I’ve been adding these to so many clients’ closets. Layer it up, belt it, add boots, or throw on a coat; it always looks effortlessly intentional, which is exactly what we want.

COATS THAT TRANSFORM AN OUTFIT

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to invest in a statement coat, now’s your time! Oversized, textured, colorful options are everywhere this season. I love styling bold coats over simple outfits to let them do all the heavy lifting. It’s that one piece that transforms everything else into something special.

COZY TEXTURES FOR FALL

This fall is all about cozy textures: faux fur, teddy, and shearling. They elevate any outfit, even if there’s just a basic tee and jeans underneath. Want to refresh your wardrobe without going all out? Start with these textures.

TAILORING THAT’S STILL YOU

Structured jackets and belted coats are back, but don’t worry, they don’t feel stiff. I love using belts to add shape to oversized knits or layering a gently structured blazer over jeans to create a polished but relaxed vibe.

POLISHED NEUTRALS & THE RETURN OF BROWN

Sometimes, simplicity is powerful. Neutrals like camel, charcoal, ivory, and deep chocolate are everywhere this fall. When these colors are paired with great cuts and textures, they become anything but boring. I like to use them as a base and then add pops of color or prints based on my vibe.

FOR FALL 2025

PLAYFUL PRINTS & ROMANTIC SHAPES

Trendy prints like polka dots and softer silhouettes are making waves. For those who enjoy a touch of whimsy in their wardrobe, I love incorporating a romantic blouse, a flowy skirt, or a fun, printed piece. Just remember, you don’t need a full-on look; sometimes, just a touch goes a long way.

SPARKLE, IF YOU’RE FEELING IT

Yes, sparkle is in! But here’s the thing, it's not about going sequined from head to toe. Think metallic bags, a sparkly top for a night out, or shiny shoes as an accent. I’m a big fan of using sparkle as an enhancement, not the main feature.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Fall 2025 is full of fun trends, but the best ones are those that fit your real life. You don’t have to do a complete wardrobe overhaul. Sometimes, it’s just about making a few updates or shifting how you style what you already own. Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all approach, and fashion should feel like you, never like a chore!

REAL TALK FROM TANYA

Not every trend needs to hit your closet (unless you want it to!). Pick one—or a few— that feel like you. Try a bold coat, a little sparkle, or a denim refresh. The right piece can shift your whole vibe. Style should feel fun and 100% you!

Designing With Provenance & Purpose

TRANSFORMATIVE SPACES THAT SPEAK THROUGH STORIED DESIGN & DECOR

BY

PHOTOGRAPHY
JANE BEILES, JAMES GAGLIARDI, JIM FUHRMANN

In a world of fast furniture and fleeting trends, the emotional resonance of home interiors with rich history and provenance offers something far more enduring: connection, meaning, and a sense of purpose. Homeowners are increasingly drawn to interiors that tell a story—spaces layered with pieces that have traveled around the world and have a story to tell. Whether it’s a centuries-old textile from India, a hand-carved cabinet from Bali, or original artwork from Paris, these elements bring more than beauty. They evoke memory, emotion, and a visceral sense of belonging to a home.

This emotional response is not just romantic thinking—it’s backed by science. Neuro-aesthetics, the study of how our brains respond to visual stimuli, shows that our environments deeply affect how we feel. The textures, materials, and shapes we live with can lower stress, elevate mood, and even promote cognitive clarity. A room that incorporates time-honored pieces feels more grounded.

There’s a quiet luxury in the weathered patina of a vintage wood mirror, or the way an antique rug anchors a space. These details create a sensory richness—a lived-in warmth that sterile, trend-driven design often lacks. When clients walk into a room filled with well-curated objects that hold meaning, they tend to linger a little longer and breathe a little deeper.

Provenance adds another layer: story. When you know where a piece comes from—who made it, where it’s traveled, what purpose it once served—it becomes more than a piece of home decor. It becomes a conversation between friends and family, and a connection to the origins of the piece. It invites you to slow down and engage with your space in a more intentional way. Of utmost importance is that items are ethically sourced, with full transparency into their origins, and in many cases, proceeds returned to support the artisan’s village or community, creating a ripple effect of beauty and impact beyond the home.

The most memorable interiors are not simply styled— each item is considered with intention—sourced objects that reveal the artistry of their makers and reflect the unique narratives of our clients. The result is a home that not only looks beautiful but also feels meaningful, personal, and intentional. Because ultimately, the most successful interiors do more than impress. They embrace the people who live there, nurture their well-being, and transform the way they experience their home every day.

Apple Cinnamon Breakfast Bites

R FILLED APPLE C INNAMON MU

These Apple Cinnamon Breakfast Bites are made with a small amount of added sugar and primarily get their slightly sweet taste from fruit sources like apple, applesauce and dates – which also add gut-healthy and filling fiber! They’re the perfect makeahead bite for a quick breakfast and they make a great addition to school lunches –plus, they’re nut and peanut free! Your kids (and you!) will love the cakey texture and the warm fall flavors, like apple, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice and dried cranberries – and you’ll love that they don’t contain a ton of added sugar. Pair with a large dollop of Greek yogurt, a dash of cinnamon and some fruit for a balanced breakfast or enjoy as a mid-day snack with tea or coffee.

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALYSSA LAVY, MS, RD, CDN

INGREDIENTS (YIELDS 12 MUFFINS)

DRY:

• 1 C all purpose flour

• 1 ¾ C rolled oats, divided into 1 C ground (or can use oat flour made with oats as the only ingredient) + ½ C whole + additional ¼ C whole, reserved for topping

• ½ C brown sugar, tightly packed

• 1 ½ tsp baking powder

• 2 ½ tsp ground cinnamon

• ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice

• ½ tsp kosher salt

• 2 Tbsp ground flaxseed

• 1 apple, grated or finely chopped

• ½ C dried cranberries

WET:

• 2 large eggs

• ½ C avocado oil or canola oil

• ¼ plain, whole milk Greek yogurt

• 1/3 C whole milk

• ½ C applesauce, unsweetened

• 18 pitted, dried dates soaked in a bowl of water + 3 Tbsp water reserved from the soaked dates (yields ½ C date paste when pureed)

• 2 tsp vanilla extract

• Nonstick cooking spray

DIRECTIONS

1. Place dates in a medium sized bowl and cover completely with cold water. Set aside.

2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. Make the oat flour by grinding 1 C rolled oats in a mini food processor until finely ground. Alternatively, you can use oat flour. Transfer oat flour to a small bowl and replace mini food processor to use in the next step.

9. Bake in oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes. Without opening the oven door, lower heat to 350 degrees Fahrenheit after 10 minutes and cook muffins for another 20-25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Oven times may vary. Let cool for at least 10-15 minutes before handling, as muffins will be hot and can fall apart easily when warm. Enjoy!

Note: These Apple Cinnamon Breakfast Bites can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4-5 days.

4. Reserve 3 Tbsp of the water from the bowl of soaked dates. Make the date paste by placing the soaked dates in the same mini food processor with the 3 Tbsp of the water from the bowl of soaked dates. Wait to discard water until you make the date paste in case you need to add a drop more to thin out the paste. Grind the dates with the added water until a paste forms. Paste does not need to be perfectly smooth. Set aside.

5. Add all purpose flour, 1 C ground rolled oats (or oat flour), baking powder, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, kosher salt and ground flaxseed in a large mixing bowl. Whisk together and set aside.

6. Crack eggs in a separate large mixing bowl and whisk together. Add brown sugar and all wet ingredients (avocado oil, Greek yogurt, milk, applesauce, date paste and vanilla extract). Whisk together until well combined.

7. Transfer wet ingredients to large bowl with dry ingredients. Mix together with a rubber spatula until ingredients are just combined. Be careful not to over mix – overmixing will result in dense muffins. Add in grated apple and dried cranberries and mix until just combined.

8. Line a 12-muffin tin with muffin/cupcake liners and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Use a spoon to completely fill each muffin tin. Make sure to use all of the batter – each muffin tin will be heaping. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ C rolled oats over the muffins.

THE Confidence PRESCRIPTION

For Dr. Kim Nichols, becoming a dermatologist wasn’t just a career decision, it was a calling that blended her passion for science with her creative spirit. After medical school rotations revealed dermatology as the perfect fusion of hands-on care and artistic precision, she knew she had found her path. Today, as the founder and powerhouse behind NicholsMD of Greenwich, Dr. Nichols delivers luxury cosmetic care with a personal, down-to-earth touch that’s made her a trusted name not just locally, but far beyond.

At the core of her philosophy? Authenticity. Whether in her personal style where playful accessories and sun-safe fashion are staples or in her approach to skin health, Dr. Nichols believes that confidence is the ultimate expression of personal style. “It’s the energy you bring into a room, how you carry yourself, and how you treat those around you,” she says. This ethos shapes every aspect of her practice, where the goal is always to help patients look and feel like their best selves.

While her Greenwich practice feels like a serene extension of a high-end city spa, Dr. Nichols is quick to point out that true skin health isn’t about a single treatment or product. “Good skin doesn’t happen overnight,” she shares. “It’s a journey, one that requires consistency and a proactive approach.” One of her favorite pieces of advice? Start early. “Bank your collagen,” she reminds patients. “The sooner you begin caring for your skin, the better you’ll look and feel over time.”

How Dr. Kim Nichols Blends Luxury Dermatology with Empowerment in Greenwich

As summer fades and fall approaches, Dr. Nichols recommends transitioning your skincare routine: focus on repairing sun damage with treatments like chemical peels or lasers, switch to richer moisturizers, and above all keep wearing SPF. Her commitment to prevention and education is a hallmark of her care.

This fall, NicholsMD is celebrating a milestone with the opening of its new flagship location at 32 Field Point Road. A project Dr. Nichols describes as a “pinch me” moment in her career. “Building something permanent in the heart of Greenwich has been deeply meaningful,” she reflects. The new space embodies her vision of blending cutting-edge aesthetic medicine with comfort and concierge-level service.

Of course, Dr. Nichols’s life extends far beyond her practice walls. As a mom, mentor, and community leader, she understands that balance doesn’t always mean equal time, it means being intentional. “When I’m with my family, I’m fully present. And when I’m at work, I’m fully focused.” Leading by example, she relies on structure and her dedicated team to help manage both her thriving practice and personal life.

Giving back to the local community remains a cornerstone of her work. Most recently, she supported the opening of a new playground at Waveny Park in New Canaan, helping to create a space where families can come together. Whether through local partnerships or mentorship, Dr. Nichols continues to find ways to uplift the community that helped build her practice.

Ultimately, Dr. Nichols’s goal is simple yet powerful: to help every patient leave her office feeling empowered, seen, and confident. “True style,” she says, “is rooted in authenticity, kindness, and confidence. That’s what makes a lasting impression.”

“I want every patient to feel empowered, seen, and like their best self. Confidence is the goal and it’s a feeling we strive to deliver at every touchpoint, from their first consultation to every treatment and conversation along the way.”

Wearing Love, Living Legacy

How One Mother Turned Grief Into Beauty with Love, Ellison Jewelry

When Julie lost her daughter Ellison to acute myeloid leukemia in 2020, she knew her story couldn’t end there. What began as a simple gesture, creating bracelets with Ellison’s best friend Emerson to raise funds for HERD and Sheldrick Foundations, soon blossomed into a powerful mission and a thriving jewelry brand: Love, Ellison.

“Ellison would sign her name with ‘Love’ at the end of every note she wrote,” Julie shares. “We wanted that signature to live on. That’s where Love, Ellison was born. A legacy of love, hope, and storytelling.”

In the early days, Julie and her family hand-crafted every piece, stringing beads and cutting chains themselves. But as demand grew, so did their vision. Today, Julie focuses on design and

creativity, partnering with manufacturers to bring her vision to life without sacrificing the personal storytelling that makes each piece special.

“Each design carries a narrative,” Julie says. “Whether it’s inspired by travel or the memory of Ellison’s dreams, every bracelet and necklace represents life’s adventures and the stories we carry with us.”

For Julie, giving back is at the heart of everything. “Ellison dreamed of being a veterinarian in Africa, working with elephants,” she explains. “That’s why supporting HERD and the Sheldrick Foundation is so important to us. We also give to Dec My Room, which decorated Ellison’s hospital space, and to the Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation and Place of Hope. They helped us build our village during the most difficult time of our lives.”

BY

Every piece tells a story. It reminds people to live fully, love deeply and treasure every moment.

Building a business in the modern world, especially after years as a stay-at-home mom, has brought both challenges and revelations.

“The business world is tough,” Julie admits. “But connecting with other women who lift you up, who share their lessons and hold your hand when you need it and that’s everything. Time is our most precious currency. Spend it wisely.”

Of course, mission-driven businesses face their own hurdles. Julie learned early that not everyone would agree with her giving model. “People judged where and how we gave back,” she says. “But you learn to tune out the noise and focus on your purpose. Surround yourself with people who remind you of your ‘why’.”

Travel is woven into Love, Ellison’s DNA. Julie and her family have always used travel as a teaching tool, exploring cities and cultures together. “Our designs are made for women on the go,” Julie explains. “Effortlessly chic jewelry that transitions from city streets to five-star dinners and beachside escapes.”

Among her favorite designs? The elephant and tree of life coin pendant. “Elephants symbolize family, strength, and protection. All things Ellison held dear,” Julie reflects. “Wearing that piece is like carrying a piece of her spirit with you.”

For Julie, the greatest reward is connection. “Our customers often share how our pieces remind them to dream big, live fully, and savor every moment,” she says. “That’s Ellison’s legacy, touching lives in small, beautiful ways.”

Looking ahead, Julie dreams of expanding their retail presence and giving back even more. “The more we sell, the more we give. That’s what drives us,” she says with a smile. “Ellison’s story is far from over. The world is our oyster.”

LOVE, ELLISON’S GIVE-BACK MISSION

At its heart, Love, Ellison is about legacy and giving. Every purchase supports foundations close to Julie’s heart: HERD and Sheldrick

“Ellison would sign her name with ‘Love’ at the end of every note she wrote,” Julie shares. “We wanted that signature to live on. That’s where Love, Ellison was born. A legacy of love, hope, and storytelling.”

Foundations (supporting elephants and wildlife, in honor of Ellison’s dreams), Dec My Room (creating personalized hospital spaces for pediatric patients), the Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation, and Place of Hope. These organizations represent family, healing, and community, values central to Ellison’s life and Julie’s mission. “We wanted every piece to represent hope and resilience,” Julie says. “The more we grow, the more we give.”
