In an era of constant change, one organization has remained a steadfast pillar of support for Greenwich residents. For over ninety years, the Greenwich United Way has dedicated itself to ensuring every community member has the opportunity to be healthy, educated, and self-sufficient.
This locally governed nonprofit has invested nearly $2 million this past year into critical community initiatives, directly impacting nearly one-third of Greenwich residents who rely on their services annually. Through comprehensive needs assessments conducted since 1981, the organization identifies and addresses the
town's most pressing challenges: affordable housing, education, and mental and physical health.
The Greenwich United Way's impact extends through seven core programs designed to create lasting change. Their Early Childhood Achievement Gap Solutions program provides scholarships and instructional coaching, ensuring at-risk children enter kindergarten better prepared than their peers. The Reading Champions program, established in 2008, deploys 150 trained volunteers to tutor hundreds of students across all Greenwich public elementary schools, serving approximately 400 students annually.

Financial literacy takes center stage through Finance Champions, where middle schoolers at the Boys & Girls Club learn money management skills. Meanwhile, the Greenwich Junior United Way empowers local teens to identify and solve community problems independently.
The organization's newest initiative addresses rising mental health needs through a Youth Mental Health Initiative, partnering with Greenwich Hospital to open a Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program at 500 West Putnam Avenue. This facility will provide accessible services regardless of families' ability to pay.
As Greenwich continues evolving, the United Way remains committed to finding and fixing community needs through volunteer-driven solutions, collaborative partnerships, and the generous support of residents who believe in strengthening their neighbors' lives.

Since 1933, the Greenwich United Way has served as Greenwich's primary community problem-solver. The organization processes over 30 grant applications annually through their Community Investment Process, with volunteer committees thoroughly reviewing each request to ensure maximum impact.
Key statistics demonstrate ongoing community need: Greenwich's Federal Poverty Level has doubled since 2007, while 22% of Greenwich Public School students now qualify for free or reduced lunch programs. The United Way responds through targeted programs like Early Childhood Scholarships, which have assisted over 100 families with more than $300,000 in childcare support since 2021.
Their comprehensive Greenwich Resource Network provides free access to human services information, while the Community Planning Council brings together local organizations to collaborate on solutions.

Hey, it’s Tanya your stylist from ModeT!
I’m back just in time for the holiday season, and if you’re anything like me, every year starts with great intentions. I tell myself I’ll start early… and then somehow it’s mid-month, the playlists are looping, and the to-do list feels longer than the checkout lines.

So this year, I’m keeping things simple. Here’s a guide to gifts that feel personal, fashion-forward, and truly fun to give. Whether you’re shopping for your partner, your kids, or the tween who’s developing their own sense of style, these are the things worth wrapping up.
For Her: Soft Structure, Texture, and Everyday Luxury 2025 is all about quiet confidence, luxe fabrics, tonal colors, and pieces that look effortless but feel indulgent.
1. The Elevated Knit: Sweaters this year are tactile and sculptural, ribbed, brushed, or slightly cropped. For a splurge, try Khaite or The Row. For chic, budget-friendly options, Reformation and COS deliver beautifully.
2. Jewelry That Feels Like Her: Layered gold, sculptural silver, or mixed-metal cuffs, jewelry that feels personal is timeless. Go high-end with Jennifer Fisher or Zoë Chicco, or gift something lovely (and wallet-friendly) from JTG Jewelry or Gorjana. A statement ring in bronze featuring Peridot, Sky Blue Topaz, Amethyst, Champagne Quartz, and London Blue Topaz—five vibrant gems that evoke color, movement, and bold energy from local favorite BK Home.
ARTICLE BY TANYA MEYERS

3. The Luxe Lounge Set: Elevated loungewear continues to trend, but now it’s about fabric and fit, think cashmere or modal in soft neutrals. Lunya and Rails are great investments; for something cozy on a budget, Naked Cashmere or Aerie are equally stylish.
4. Beauty That Feels Like a Treat: This year’s beauty trend is “ritual over routine.” Try Augustinus Bader or Dr. Barbara Sturm for true indulgence, or Summer Fridays and Glossier for playful, everyday luxury.
For Him: Tailored Ease, Smart Utility, and Timeless Cool Men’s fashion this year is grounded in refined comfort, clean layers, relaxed tailoring, and subtle luxury details.
1. The Perfect Knit or Overshirt: He’ll live in it. Lightweight knits and shackets in neutral tones look modern yet easy. Splurge on Brunello Cucinelli or Vince, or find great affordable versions at Banana Republic or Uniqlo.
2. The Office-Ready Backpack: Yes, backpacks are back, but the grown-up kind. This 2025 essential is structured, minimal, and crafted in leather or coated canvas. For a high-end gift, try Montblanc or Kiton; for sleek, functional options, Tumi or Samsonite work perfectly.
3. The Wrist Upgrade: Understated watches and bracelets never go out of style. Luxury picks include Rolex or Patek Philippe, while Tissot and Omega offer timeless, modern designs without the hefty price tag.
4. Grooming with Intention: Men’s self-care is finally mainstream. Tom Ford makes incredible grooming gifts; for simple, high-quality basics, go with Kiehl’s or Harry’s.

For Kids: Playful, Comfortable, and Colorful Kids’ fashion is all about joy; bright colors, soft fabrics, and wearable fun.
1. The Everyday Set: Because kids need clothes they can actually live in. Think cozy textures, easy layers, and colors that mix without trying too hard. Mini Boden and Janie and Jack bring that cheerful, polished feel for boys and girls alike, while J.Crew Kids and Hanna Andersson keep things soft, comfy, and ready for play.
2. Accessories That Pop: A beanie with character, sneakers that sparkle or stand out, or a cozy vest; it’s all about personality. Veja Kids and Converse make great gender-neutral sneakers; Bari Lynn adds sparkle for girls, while STATE Bags and Herschel Kids have stylish, functional pieces boys love too.
3. Creative Kits: Encourage imagination with gifts that foster curiosity, rather than adding to screen time. Try Klutz jewelry and craft kits for girls, or STEM sets from LEGO and Tinkering Labs for budding builders.

For Tweens & Teens: Cool, Custom, and Confident
This age group wants gifts that feel grown-up yet still their own, and 2025 trends make it easy.
1. Streetwear Staples: Relaxed denim, matching sweats, and statement sneakers define the season. For girls, Katie J NYC, Aviator Nation and Alo Yoga nail that effortless vibe. For boys, Johnnie-O and Abercrombie Kids balance comfort with confidence.
2. Personalized & Meaningful Jewelry: Name necklaces, simple chains, and stackable rings remain in style. BaubleBar and Gorjana are great for girls, while Mejuri Men and Le Gramme offer subtle, cool accessories that don’t try too hard.
3. Tech-Meets-Fashion: From custom phone cases to LED mirrors and wireless earbuds, the best gifts combine function and flair. Casetify and Urban Outfitters have fun options for girls, while boys might love Bellroy tech sleeves, Nomad chargers, or sleek headphones.
4. Effortless Essentials: For older teens leaning minimalist, Aritzia’s neutral knits and soft sweats make perfect gifts for girls; for boys, Vuori and Alo Men strike that same balance of comfort, polish, and practicality.Stocking Stuffers with Personality
Small things, big smiles.
• For Her: silk scrunchies, mini perfumes, or a Laneige lip mask.
• For Him: Bombas socks, travel-size colognes, or a sleek card holder.
• For Kids: art pens, cozy socks, or sticker packs.
• For Tweens (Girls): gloss sets, claw clips, or skincare minis.
• For Tweens (Boys): cool keychains, mini cologne samplers, or tech accessories. And don’t forget to check your local boutiques!!! they always surprise you with hidden gems.
The “Experience Gift” Edit
One of my favorite trends this year: experiences over excess.
• For Her: a personal styling session or spa day.
• For Him: golf lessons or a whiskey tasting
• For Kids: art, dance, or cooking classes.
• For Tweens (Girls): a mini photo shoot or creative workshop.
• For Tweens (Boys): tickets to a sporting event or skills clinic. These are gifts they’ll remember long after the holiday lights come down.
Final Thoughts
The best gifts don’t need to be grand; they just need to feel thoughtful. Maybe it’s a beautiful knit, a favorite candle, or a handwritten note. What matters most is that you chose it with care. So pour some hot chocolate, queue up the playlist, and enjoy the process. You’ll find many of these brands at your local shops, so stop by and explore what’s nearby. Sometimes, the best gifts are the ones you find close to home.
Happy holidays and happy gifting.

The best gifts feel personal. Think about what they use every day, a soft sweater or a favorite mug. Match their style, do they lean classic or playful? Add a note or treat, and choose one thoughtful piece they’ll truly love. It’s the care and thought that makes it special.

The holidays have a way of filling our calendars with gatherings—cozy dinners, festive soirées, and impromptu get-togethers that remind us what the season is really about: connection . And while the joy of being invited is its own gift, showing up with a thoughtful token of appreciation for your host is a timeless gesture that never goes unnoticed. If you’ve ever been a host, you know it’s no small feat—it takes time, thought, and an incredible amount of effort to make everything look and feel effortless. Whether it’s a festive dinner party, a cookie exchange, or a weekend stay at a friend’s home, bringing something special expresses gratitude for the care and effort that goes into hosting.
Of course, finding the right host gift is a delicate art. You want something that feels personal, polished, and appropriate; something that shows you appreciate their hospitality without adding to their to-do list. The best gifts are those that feel effortless yet meaningful. A well-chosen host gift can reflect your style and taste while honoring theirs, offering a small slice of comfort or delight to enjoy long after the dishes are cleared.
This guide is designed to help you master that balance with ease. From elegant touches that elevate a dinner table to thoughtful tokens that make any space a bit cozier, these ideas make it simple to arrive with confidence and gratitude in hand.
So, as the invitations start rolling in, consider this your go-to inspiration for celebrating the people who make this special season shine—those who open their homes, pour the wine, and create spaces where our favorite holiday memories unfold.

LAVY, MS, RD, CDN
SLIGHTLY SWEET, TANGY AND PERFECT FOR THE HOLIDAYS OR ANY NIGHT!
(YIELDS 2-4 SERVINGS):
Cranberry Sauce:
• 6 oz fresh cranberries
• 1/3 C pure maple syrup
• 2 tsp fresh squeezed lemon juice (about half a lemon)
• ½ Tbsp lemon zest, tightly packed (zest from approximately 1 lemon)
• ¾ tsp fresh thyme leaves, washed and pat dry
• 1 tsp parsley, fresh or dried (washed and pat dry if using fresh)
Salmon:
• 16 oz salmon
• 2 Tbsp oil, such as avocado oil or olive oil
• ¼ tsp salt
• 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
• ¼ tsp garlic powder
• ¼ tsp onion powder
• ¾ tsp parsley, fresh or dried (washed and pat dry if using fresh)
• ¾ tsp oregano
• 2 Tbsp lemon juice (juice squeezed from approximately ½ lemon)
• Nonstick oil cooking spray

Start by making the cranberry sauce. Wash cranberries in a medium sized strainer and transfer to a medium sized saucepan warmed over high heat.
Add maple syrup, lemon juice and lemon zest to the saucepan.

Cover saucepan over high heat until cranberries start to burst and sauce begins to boil (~3-5 minutes). Allow sauce to boil uncovered for 2-3 minutes. Add parsley and fresh thyme and stir. Reduce heat to low, replace lid so it is slightly of balance and not completely closed. Simmer for ~10 minutes, until cranberry sauce thickens. While cranberry sauce is thickening, move forward with preparing the salmon in the next step below.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a baking dish (8 x 8 inches works well) with nonstick cooking spray. Place salmon skin side down in the baking dish.

Drizzle oil over salmon. Add all seasonings (salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, oregano) so that they are evenly distributed. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over salmon.
Use a spoon to transfer the cranberry sauce on top of the salmon and distribute evenly, so that it forms a thick coating on top of the salmon.
Bake salmon in oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for ~30-35 minutes, until salmon is cooked through. Fish should reach an internal temperature of at least 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Enjoy!
Note: Individual oven times may vary. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. This dish can also be prepped ahead of time by making the cranberry sauce and seasoning the salmon earlier in the day, then storing in the fridge, covered, until ready to bake.
If you’re looking for the perfect holiday entrée, look no further than this Cranberry Baked Salmon! This dish is both gorgeous and delicious, tying in holiday hues and flavors. The cranberry glaze brings a slightly tart, slightly sweet and seasonal taste to the salmon, which is cooked low and slow to keep it juicy and moist. It is sure to be a hit at any holiday table, but it can also be made any night of the week - it’s that simple to make! If hosting, you can make the cranberry glaze a day or two in advance and store it in the fridge, and you can even prep the salmon and add the glaze earlier in the day so the salmon just needs to bake when your company arrives. Whether you’re serving this Cranberry Baked Salmon for guests or enjoying it by yourself or with family any night of the week, it is the perfect, simple and the most flavorful way to enjoy salmon this season!
