As we age, our mid face fat pads deflate and descend downwards causing our skin to fall without that structural support, creating the appearance of jowls. Using the new robust Volux™ filler, our talented injectors can mimic the structure of bone and replace the volume we’ve lost in this area, as well as create a smooth jawline.

- Maridaliz Torres |LIFESTYLE LETTER
Home. So much contained in that little four letter word. Home is our grounding. Our base. Our launchpad. It’s where we start and end each day. And while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning and value it holds for all of us is undeniable.
Author Wendy Wunder said, “The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back. ”As we thought about home - we wanted to highlight what makes it special to our readers. That of course includes the food and drinks, the aesthetic and design, but most importantly - the people.
This month we sat down with Yashmin Llyods' who took the top spot at Compass Greenwich in 2022 on her real estate career. We were able to get a sneak peak about the new Culnova flagship store and all the kitchen dreams that offers. Kellie Kerwin interviews the Habitual Hostess duo and learns the perfect hosting tips. Our resident nutritionist, Cece Reeder also shares tips on the most important meal of the day.
We feel like the lucky ones as we got to learn more about the businesses and individuals that comprise our towns and hope the small lens into their lives and work brings people in this community together.
As you flip through the pages of this issue, we hope you’ll feel encouraged and connected to the people around you, in our neighborhood and most of all your home.
Every month, we hear from readers who keep this magazine for longer than just the month labeled on the cover. They say they hold onto it for months as coffee table art or an accessory in their home. We feel proud to create a resource that is valued in our community and strive every month to deliver the value you expect. Thanks for letting us be a part of your home.
Happy March!

“Life is Boring, It’s Your Job to Make it Fun!”
Words to *host* by with Alston & Leigh
ARTICLE BY KELLIE KERWINPHOTOGRAPHY BY
LEIGH HANSEN, HABITUAL HOSTESSThe Habitual Hostess is the idea of celebrating occasions big and small. Inspiring people to have the party and enjoy the process while making memories. Our platform follows the seasons and holidays and reflects how we’re celebrating life with friends and family.
We knew we wanted the idea to reflect hosting, and not just cooking. One night a few months before we launched, we were chatting about it over a glass of wine and the idea just came to us! We checked to see if the Instagram handle was available and luckily it was! We registered it right away and started planning. Our first Instagram post, thus “launching” the brand was on January 3, 2021.
We met at the beginning of our Freshman year at the University of Alabama and have known each other for more than 20 years now! After college, we lived in New York City together. We were both into food and entertaining and Leigh has always been very into photography. We had this idea for a blog called Eat Pretty. But life was fast and we were both young and working – also very busy enjoying all New York City had to offer. Long story short, the blog never launched. Meanwhile, we both met our now husbands who both happened to be from Greenwich, CT. Leigh moved out to Connecticut after getting married and Alston moved to San Francisco for a quick stint. When she and her family made their way to settle in Greenwich, we started talking again about launching a creative outlet that reflected our
shared passions. We were both out of the baby-phase with our children and looking for a little something extra – let’s call it a “passion-project.”
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER AND THE BEST THING HABITUAL HOSTESS HAS BROUGHT YOUR WAY?
Our Wednesday “Cook Days” can often double as therapy sessions! At this age, who gets to spend almost an entire day a week hanging out with one of their best friends? We have met so many amazing local entrepreneurs, business owners and taste-makers through Habitual Hostess and that has been so inspiring!
TELL US ABOUT THE RECIPES YOU CREATE. DO YOU TRY THEM OUT YOURSELVES FIRST? ARE THEY PASSED DOWN FROM GENERATION OR FROM SCRATCH?
Yes! We test out each recipe we create or share. Sometimes they flip and it can take several tries before we get to the point of sharing. The recipes could be variations of something we’ve tried and loved in the past. We share tried and true recipes from others. And yes, a few of them are Southern recipes passed down from our mothers or grandmothers.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF ENTERTAINING?
Coming up with new menu ideas and bringing that menu to life with friends. We love the feeling of our houses when guests are enjoying themselves. It feels happy and alive and the memories last way beyond the party.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY?
Leigh: Christmas
Alston: Christmas for sure! It’s such a magical time of year!
HOW DID YOU GROW THE BUSINESS TO DATE?
We have been incredibly lucky to have some amazing cheerleaders on our side. We have had friends invite us to help them with small events for their businesses or social groups – thus spreading the word and sharing our Instagram account with others.
LOVE THAT YOU INCLUDE MANY TRADITIONS THROUGHOUT YOUR POSTS. IS IT IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO CREATE NEW TRADITIONS AND KEEP OLD ONES ALIVE?
Babs, from Brunch with Babs made a great point – it only takes two years for a tradition to
be just that! We both grew up with lots of traditions and carry many of those throughout with our families. We’ve also started new ones! Our tip is: pick traditions that are simple and bring you joy, not ones that are stressful or unfulfilling just because you think you should do them!
WHERE DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM?
We both LOVE cookbooks and each own many. Alston also checks cookbooks out from the local library on a regular basis. We are also always inspired by our southern mothers who are forever hosting and enjoying life with friends and family.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE HABITUAL HOSTESS?
Stay tuned for a monthly newsletter that will be a party planning one-sheet for a different party each month! We hope to inspire people to throw parties and host more. The newsletter will outline not only the full party menu but also hosting tips and a timeline that will keep you out of the kitchen and enjoying the party!
WHAT ARE YOUR 2023 GOALS?
We had some really fun partnerships with lifestyle brands in 2022 and hope to have some partnership with food and beverage companies in 2023.
WHERE CAN WE FIND MORE ABOUT THE HABITUAL HOSTESS?
You can follow us on Instagram @habitualhostess (where we shoot all of our own reels and Leigh does our photography) and https://www. habitualhostess.com

GS Woodworking has been helping residents and designers of Westchester County and Fairfield County beautify their homes and interiors since 2014, and shows no signs of slowing down. The locally owned and operated company began when Guilherme Silva, born in Brazil and working in cabinetry and furniture as taught by his father, had a vision for his own company. After coming to America at age 18, Silva, known as G, honed his trade and bided his time before branching out on his own to create beautiful pieces to enhance his clients’ interiors.
Silva and his partner Mayara Hopp run the business together. Specializing in custom cabinetry and fine furniture, he does the creative woodworking and she works with the designers and homeowners to get all the specifications and details just right. As Hopp puts it, “The line between personal and professional is quite a blurred one because not only are we partners in love but we are also partners in business. And while the idea of spending 24 hours a day with your significant other may sound like a recipe for disaster for most people, we can say it’s actually made both our work and relationship stronger.”
When he was getting started, Silva had been an employee in another cabinetry company and he was the best installer they had.
He got the work done quickly and efficiently. Clients would request him because of his expertise and attention to detail. Always hardworking, he began to take on small projects of his own clients and build them after his shift hours. As his client list grew, he was becoming too busy to work for someone else. At this point he decided to invest his time, energy, and knowledge in his own company–GS Woodworking.
Hopp joined Silva in the company in 2018 after also moving from Brazil. Although she had been a biologist, he patiently taught her all about the business and opened her eyes to a new world which she now loves. She helped him with the behind the scenes office, client, and management aspects and the business took off. As she says, “It was a BOOM, we grew together really fast.”
The love that they share is evident in the care they put into the custom pieces they design, along with the clients' help and input. When a client decides to work with GS Woodworking the process begins with a consultation when the client gives their ideas. They share rough dimensions, sketches, and inspiration pictures.
With that information, the team at GS Woodworking will provide an estimate. When the client decides to move forward,
ARTICLE BY LEA GRIMALDIthey will have a meeting at the client’s home to take measurements and discuss further details. Making sure proportions are exact is crucial. “Most of our clients are designers and homeowners, and I like to collaborate with them, sharing my personal and professional ideas,” Hopp says.
After that, they proceed to down payment and shop drawings to be presented to the client, which generally requires some modifications and adjustments until clients are happy with the plans. “Once the plans are approved, we will make them wood samples for finish selections. As every piece is unique and customized specially for each client, the shapes and finish options are endless,” according to Hopp.
During the process, the individual team members will do what they love. They have one expert on dining tables, another who is a master at cabinetry, and a third who can work on multiple cabinetry projects simultaneously. They all excel in their specialty. They have a finishing team that perfects the lacquers and can create anything from the most basic to the most difficult stain to attain the desired finish. The average time to complete a piece is four months.
Because each piece is different, it is difficult to give a price range since shape, size, and materials vary so much. “We don’t really have one favorite offer. This is the beauty of custom woodwork, it never gets boring!” says Hopp.
However, the cabinetry price is not comparable to Home Depot or Ikea, because the quality of the materials is much higher and will last much longer than mass-produced items.
During the pandemic their business increased as people stayed home and began home improvement projects. ”Homeowners have re-prioritized their spaces and their homes are now to serve much more than just a domestic purpose. They must meet the home, work, and social requirements,” Hopp says.
As people spent all of their time at home for much of the pandemic, they realized they wanted more out of their home spaces. According to Hopp,”Being able to work in a designated home office or to enjoy a drink in the comfort of your home bar has become increasingly important during this time.”
Hopp’s advice to people seeking to improve their home through custom woodworking is this, ”Having a unique piece of furniture is very satisfying. Custom cabinets and furniture have a great spirit, and it lasts. That kind of value is important. I suggest gathering photos from the internet and magazines, and researching materials they might like. Schedule an appointment with us and we will make sure to bring their vision to life.”
If potential clients follow this advice, they will have a piece of custom furniture that they have helped design which will enhance their home for many years to come.
GS Woodworking serves Westchester County, NY, Fairfield County, CT, Manhattan, Long Island, and the Hamptons. They can be found at gswoodworking.com
Susan De Chiara shares how to make your home yours.
ARTICLE BY ASHLEY ALTHome is where the heart is, so they say. Susan De Chiara , an artist based in New Canaan, tells us how to make your home yours, from art pieces to seasonal decor, including where to find unique pieces to make your space feel as cozy-chic as it looks.
A decor blogger first, artist second, Susan founded the widely followed design blog back in 2009, The Zhush, which she still keeps up with today discussing interior design trends and styles. After 10 years of writing about design, she decided to “return to her roots” and start painting again. Finding her
inspiration through things like nature, ancient myths, the human body, and meditation, her artwork is lovely and calming, like a breath of fresh (and very clean) air. Here, we talked all things interior design.
ASHLEY: WHAT IS YOUR SPECIALTY?
Susan: I would say my specialty is zhushing the final touches to a room. To “zhush” a room is to bring in all the little touches and details which help pull a final design together.
A: HOW CAN WE MAKE OUR HOME FEEL LIKE OUR OWN, REFLECTIVE OF OUR PERSONALITY?
S: Original art is one of the best ways to make your home your own. From a favorite color to inspiring places you’ve traveled, you can really express yourself through the art choices you make for your space. Art can tell a story about the homeowner’s tastes. When you surround yourself with the things and pieces that really speak to you, your home will convey a true sense of who you are.
A: WHERE CAN READERS FIND UNIQUE PIECES TO MAKE THEIR SPACE FEEL PERSONALIZED?
S: There are so many great resources. My art on my site for starters! Available at Bespoke Designs in Westport and Behind The Hedge in Fairfield. Both shops also offer a plethora of chic home decor pieces. Locally and online, The Local Vault is a great source for vintage and unique pieces. I also love to peruse Etsy — it’s a great one-stopshop for finding almost anything for your home.
A: WHAT ARE THE DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2023?
S: Less cookie cutter style and more individualistic style will be a big theme this year. Think decorating with meaningful items and opting for your own taste over trends. I also think we’ll see a return to closed floor plans with a focus on cozier, smaller spaces.
A: HOW CAN WE INCORPORATE THE “INDIVIDUAL STYLE” TREND IN A WAY THAT FEELS AUTHENTIC TO US?
S: You should think about your own tastes, likes, and even dislikes. From there, you can think of interesting and creative ways to incorporate these ideas into your homes. From coffee table books to colorful throw pillows to, of course, my favorite, original artwork, there are so many ways to let your personality shine through in your home.
You can find Susan’s original art on her website, suedechiaraart.com , where she has been creating art for the past five years.

IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY
The Benefits of Eating Breakfast
ARTICLE BY CECE REEDER
Breakfast is deemed as ‘the most important meal of the day’ for a reason! Current evidence states that those who start their day off with breakfast consume a more nutritious diet, and are found to be at a decreased risk for chronic diseases.
Our brain function relies on carbohydrates, and when we sleep – our body relies on our storage form of carbohydrates to sustain us throughout the night. However, by the time we wake up, that supply is limited, and our body requires that we ‘break the fast’ that we were in while asleep. Prolonging this fast until midday limits the brain’s function and ability to work at peak performance. Thus, breakfast helps prevent brain fog, allowing a more decisive and better decision making.
Research suggests that starting the day off with a balanced meal allows for better decision making in food choices, and may even prevent feelings of uncontrolled craving for less nutritious foods later on in the day.
What is muesli? Muesli is essentially unbaked granola! When preparing granola, a source of sugar, such as honey, must be used for the granola to cluster. Although granola is delicious and certainly a great option to include in moderation, swapping it out for muesli reduces the amount of added sugar included in your breakfast.
Muesli can be purchased at most grocery stores, but making your own muesli at home allows for customization! See my go-to muesli recipe below. The amount that I include for each ingredient typically varies depending on how long I want the muesli to
last (depending on the ingredients included, it can be good for about 6 months in an airtight container, and even longer if stored in the refrigerator!)
Enjoy some foods that are in season this month!
YOUR MARCH PRODUCE GUIDE:
• Apples
• Asparagus
• Avocados
• Bananas
• Broccoli
• Brussels Sprouts
• Cabbage
• Cauliflower
• Citrus
• Pineapple
• Sweet Onions
• Radishes
• 3.5 cups of rolled oats
• .25 cup of chia seeds
• .5 cup of sliced almonds or chopped walnuts
• .25 cup of sunflower seeds
• .5 cup of dried fruit (I usually circulate between raisins, dried cranberries, and/or chopped dates)
WAYS TO ENJOY MUESLI:
Muesli is a great addition to breakfast; it is a source of whole grains because of the rolled oats, and the nuts contribute as a good source of dietary fat, so I typically try to add a protein source to it.
1. Enjoy as cereal! Combine muesli with milk and top with slices of bananas
2. Use it as a crunchy topping to your favorite yogurt
3. Turn it into overnight oats
4. Slice apples in circles, add your nutbutter of choice, and sprinkle with muesli
