LIFESTYLE LETTER

June - Gentlemen's Issue An inspirational man has the incredible power and privilege of shaping and mentoring the young people in their lives to grow and mature in a multitude of ways. Whether they are a father, a coach, an uncle or a boss, being a role model and leading by example can make a lasting impact on those watching. We can all probably think of a man in our life that has had a big impact on us at one time or another. Whether it was someone pushing us to be a better version of ourselves, or someone who sees the best in us, or someone we look up to for guidance, or perhaps someone we don’t personally know but that inspires us by their greatness, we can recognize the impact these role models can make our lives. I feel so blessed to have an incredible husband in my life who is the definition of selfless and supportive. This month we are honoring men and their contribution to the betterment of our community. We are highlighting men who put themselves second, work hard and inspire others to do the same. To all of the men out there that are making a difference in someone’s life, big or small, we applaud you. The lasting impact that you are making and the ripple effect that often ensues is worth it. Take a minute to remind the men in your life how important they are to you. Share the special men in your life with us this month on instagram and tag us for a chance to be featured @greenwichlifestylemag Cheers to the boys!

which I have been blessed with. I have always tried to take an “adapt and overcome” approach when dealing with adversity and hardship. I believe true confidence for me has been a work in progress, allowing myself to acknowledge my strengths is key, celebrating them and building upon these strengths, while continuing down paths that seem to work well for me and those close to me. My confidence with cooking and creating is beautifully natural, a gift to have such a personal way of expressing myself in my career.

WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? Cooking. Plain and simple, cooking is the greatest prize of it all! I began cooking at 13 years old and I haven’t looked back. It has been my passion, my love, and my inspiration for so many aspects of my life ever since. For many years cooking and being an “athlete” in the kitchen was my primary responsibility and focus, as it should have been and I was always extremely comfortable and at home in the kitchen, it has never really been a job, more just my life. The peace and flow state that comes with creating something beautiful, meaningful, and delicious with food is extremely fulfilling. The genuine rush and adrenaline of a Saturday night service in the kitchen, pushing to win day after day, constantly striving towards excellence and never quite feeling that we are there yet is a beautifully elusive goal, that I will chase forever. Over the past ten years, I have moved through the ranks of my career, gratefully, into the role of Chef Restaurateur, which brings with it an entirely new and at one time very foreign set of demands and skill sets necessary for success.

WHAT DOES SUCCESS MEAN TO YOU? Balance. The ability to achieve a true balance of nurturing and deeply caring for my family, my relationship, my friendships and my faith along with my career have become essential for me to achieve a truly successful life. It has taken me a great deal of time to finally achieve balance in these areas of my life. Becoming a father to my twin 8-yearold boys, was no doubt the most beautiful gift in life, and ever since then, all the years of hard work, sacrifice and commitment to cooking and the restaurant business all just seemed to take on a different light. Not only has fatherhood made me find the very best in myself for the boys, but it has also allowed me, thanks to Jude and

"The peace and f low state that comes with creating something beautiful, meaningful, and delicious with food is extremely fulfilling."

Jax, to find a life balanced with cooking, not by cooking and the business. I have somehow managed to open 4 restaurants since the boys were born, all the while being able to be fully present and committed to them first, with all the time in the world together, which of course still isn’t enough. Little do they know how much they helped me realize how important and essential balance is in life. I am also incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful girlfriend, Tara, who teaches me so very much every day, inspiring me to just be present with it all, and everything can just balance itself so naturally and easily. Truly finding success in the greatest way.

GL: HOW HAVE YOU BUILT CONFIDENCE AND/OR RESILIENCY OVER THE COURSE OF YOUR CAREER? As a business grows so too does greater responsibility. Failure is never an option when you are responsible for more than just yourself. There have been many times throughout my career that I have been forced to face serious challenges. Every time I have faced adversity, I have worked together with my team to address the problems. It is within these struggles where my greatest inspiration for positive change comes.

GL: WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? The best part of my job has been working so closely with a great group of family, friends and colleagues to create a meaningful presence within the communities we serve. Over the years we have continued to focus our business on how we can use our store locations as a force for good. Creating a deep sense of purpose for our stores in true service to our communities is by far the best part of my job.

GL: WHAT DOES SUCCESS MEAN TO YOU? Success means so much to so many and yet how to measure it isn’t so simple. We strive to make our client’s pets lives better through good animal nutrition and a more holistic approach to wellness. Lewis Liebert CEO of Performance Flight

38

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | LOCAL S E RVI CE S

Lewis Liebert is the CEO of Performance Flight, a successful aviation company. He is a prominent entrepreneur throughout Westchester and Fairfield Counties. He still maintains ownership in other enterprises and is frequently engaged in freelance business consulting.

GL: HOW HAVE YOU BUILT CONFIDENCE OVER THE COURSE OF YOUR CAREER? It’s been hard to build confidence. I know we’re great at what we do, our earnest commitment to being the best is clear; but the level of competition is so high that it always keeps me grounded. It’s always a push. Resiliency comes from knowing how good we really are. My team is unmatched and exemplify the ideals I’ve established for the organization, and we all stick together like family. When we’re in our groove and supporting each other while working towards common goals, that’s how we stay resilient because we know we’re on the right path.

GL: WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? For all the travel required in my role, almost all the flights are done privately and there’s nothing cooler than that! The freedom to get in a plane and go somewhere is something most people will never have an opportunity to appreciate. The best part of my job has been the opportunity to develop relationships with the clients. They’re all interesting; each smart and successful and people who I really enjoy.

GL: WHAT DOES SUCCESS MEAN TO YOU? It’s hard to define success. It’s not necessarily financial; don’t get me wrong it’s great to see the company do well by the almighty measure. But the true feeling of success for me has been developing new divisions to a point where they run smoothly, allowing me to move on to the next opportunity for growth. The sense of success comes from expanding and maturing the company; I think I’m constantly striving for success but never feeling like I’ve made it.

Men’s Health

Cutting Edge and Customized Care is offered by Dr. Michael Werner and his highly trained team 42

ARTICLE BY KRISTIN BURNELL

Located just across the stateline in Purchase, New York, Maze Men’s Sexual & Reproductive Health is led by Michael A. Werner, MD, FACS, and his highly skilled medical team. Their approach to sexual healthcare is unique, changing the way this complex field of medicine is addressed. The practice specializes in Male Sexual Dysfunction and Male Infertility, offering cutting edge services with customized care for each patient that walks through their doors. Greenwich Lifestyle caught up with Dr. Werner to find out more about his successful business that he leads in both Purchase and midtown Manhattan. Dr. Werner is a board-certified urologist and completed a fellowship in Male Infertility, surgery, and Male Sexual Dysfunction. His passion for helping couples have a child and restoring men to good sexual health led him to decide to specialize in these areas. Dr. Werner believes that these two fields of healthcare make a big difference in people’s lives and relationships. One of the main reasons Dr. Werner decided to pursue Sexual Medicine is because many medical professionals are undereducated in Male and Female Sexual Dysfunction. Dr. Werner is passionate about treating sexual issues, with both psychological and medical management. At Maze Men’s Health, their team of specialists is comprised of medical practitioners and therapists, that diagnose and treat health issues such as; Peyronie’s Disease and Male Infertility. also performs the no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomy exclusively in this area. As for what makes Maze Men’s Health unique, their mission to treat the whole person is what has helped build a successful and trustworthy environment for patients. In addition to treating medical issues, they also treat the psychological aspects of your condition. When a patient visits Maze, they meet with a team consisting of an expert clinician and a sex educator. Together, they consider all facets of your general health and medical history and then develop the best treatment plan for you. This optimal approach has helped the team often succeed in cases where patients have been unsuccessful elsewhere.

Dr. Werner and his team have recently begun using two new, innovative treatments for erectile dysfunction called Shockwave Therapy and Platelet-Rich Plasma that have shown promising results. These procedures, which are non-surgical, painless, and potentially curative, work best on men with decreased blood flow and have shown significant improvement in many patients. For men who don’t want to take oral medications or use injections, these are very good alternatives. On the male reproductive health front, Maze Men’s Health is proud to be the only practice in the U.S. offering a revolutionary evaluation and processing technique called ESSM to address male infertility. This non-invasive lab test has truly

changed the lives of couples who had lost hope of ever achieving a pregnancy. Maze Men’s Health is part of Maze Health and also includes Maze Women’s Sexual Health, which treats pelvic pain, low libido and menopausal symptoms, Maze Labs, offering comprehensive Male Fertility testing and sperm banking, and Maze Cord Blood, an umbilical cord and tissue banking service. The mission of Maze Health is to ensure that both their male and female patients can achieve satisfying sex lives and to offer innovative solutions to couples with infertility challenges. Humming Homes Makes Living Easy 48

M UST SE E | HOM E + D ES I GN

Humming Homes doesn’t just make sense, it makes too much sense. It’s a service and an app that helps homeowners simply live in their home, while all their home maintenance is taken care of. Humming Homes pairs homeowners with a dedicated home coordinator and an on-the-ground local expert to manage projects big and small. They’re in Fairfield County, alongside Westchester County, South Florida, and the Hamptons – the team currently manages over 300 homes. I am already a Humming Homes customer, but when I got to interview the team, I was surprised by their clear vision, how satisfied their customers are, and the motivating factor behind helping homeowners.

Adeel Mallick started Humming Homes in response to a problem he saw first-hand: “My brother and his wife moved out of the city to the suburbs during the pandemic. They have two children and they both work full-time jobs. I saw how much work the transition to homeownership was for them, and how little help they had. I wanted to step in, first-hand, and ended up building Humming Homes.” Built to solve a problem that many homeowners face, Humming Homes’ goal is to give the gift of time back. “Time back” is equal parts functional and philosophical — it got me thinking about what I would do with my extra time, and what I actually spend time on. A few months ago, I discovered carpenter ants in my basement. I went out to True Value Hardware on Railroad Avenue; I bought some pest spray, watched two YouTube videos, and then sprayed down the affected area. Every half hour or so, I would check on the basement, and spray the area again if I saw an ant. I wasted my entire weekend, and the ants still persisted. I called a recommended pest company, and they let me know that they were booked until August. I found Humming Homes online somewhere, and I gave them a call. They walked me through all the proactive and reactive needs my home could have, and also sent out an exterminator the next day. Once I was all set up with Humming Homes, they set me up with a Home Coordinator who acts like a virtual assistant, and sent someone to my home to inspect every single one of my appliances — the interior and exterior. I absolutely love not having to email, text, or call vendors. I love having everything in a single app. I love talking to Cynthia, my dedicated Home Coordinator. Humming Homes has been a game changer for me — their professional staff makes dealing with the household maintenance and handyman tasks really easy. While I’ve spent countless hours trying to ask around for referrals, reading online reviews and meeting with multiple vendors — the process is overwhelming and I end up rolling the dice in hopes that I’ve chosen the right vendor. To learn more about Humming Homes and how you can spruce up your home you can visit their website: www.humminghomes.com.

Austin T X

Get Away to the Live Music Capital of the World and Discover All That Makes Austin an Unforgettable Domestic Travel Gem

52

T R AV E L J OU R N A L | TR AVE L

“I love you so much.” It’s one of Austin’s many remarkable and Instagrammable street murals but is also a love letter from locals and visitors alike who adore this “weird” and wonderful city in the South. The capital city of Texas is best known for having a personality of its own, one bursting with foodie and fashion finds, outdoor activities and “Austintatious” art creations, a booming sphere of pro sports experiences (we see you Formula 1 and Austin FC), and seven days a week of live music to boot. Did we mention it’s sunny nearly 300 days a year? It’s time to GET AWAY!

Photography Nathan Fluellen

This month, our City Lifestyle family of travel enthusiasts are thrilled to collaborate with Visit Austin to introduce an exclusively curated guide to this lively destination paired with a GIVEAWAY* opportunity to win a 2-night trip for two, with round trip airfare from American Airlines! It’s a big city with a small-town vibe brimming with rich cultural experiences that you must add to your wanderlust list to get your fill of margaritas, music and magnificent hospitality. Sunny most days of the year, Austin is recognized for a myriad of outdoor experiences which you can experience both in downtown Austin with scenic views of the skyline, as well as the surrounding area, including local treasure, Lady Bird Lake. Kayak, hike, bike and swim your way around the great Austin outdoors and enjoy one of the city’s most fantastic offerings that inspires people to get outside and play together.

When it comes to luxury accommodations, one of the most stunning hotels in Austin is the Commodore Perry Estate. This striking and historic property, once a 10,800-square-foot private mansion known to host Jazz era social extravaganzas, has been transformed into a modern and European-influenced spectacular resort now open to the public. Enjoy the architectural details, white-glove service, in-room Austin purveyor displays, and sophisticated, Southern-style meals. Speaking of meals, Austin is renowned for pleasing palates, with an exceptional restaurant scene, including barbecue and tacos as its true soul foods. Pair your tacos with queso and the musthave margaritas for an authentic Tex-Mex meal, or indulge in Austin’s quintessential barbecue. Austin’s slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bone brisket is a mouth-watering experience not to miss.

Ente r for a chance to win a geta way to Austin!

Beyond barbecue and Tex-Mex is an entire mix of palate pleasers, from upscale Mediterranean and Asian to James Beard award-winning eateries. Geraldine’s inside Hotel Van Zandt is one of Austin’s iconic Rainey Street destinations. Equal parts restaurant, bar, rooftop and live music venue, Geraldine’s overlooks beautiful Lady Bird Lake and offers 4th f loor cabanas, a nightly concert lineup and a chef ’s contemporary menu. But first you should start your day with a cup of joe from Jo’s Coffee. Known for its iconic “i love you so much” muralclad exterior on South Congress Avenue, patrons come for the hot coffee, good food, cold beer and people-watching. As for Austin’s retail and local maker scene, the possibilities are endless and elevated. 2ND Street District boasts a mix of boutiques and shops to get your fashion fix and new home decor. For the gentlemen, embrace the full district experience, shopping League of Rebels, a bespoke experience with tailor made lifestyle wear, or Bonobos, the pioneers of custom fit chinos. Then enjoy a fresh shave from Austin’s premier Finley’s Barber Shop. For the women, shop local and find the perfect gift for yourself or someone you love from Luxe Apothetique, then drape yourself in artisan jewelry from Eliza Page before falling for the modern designs from Blu Dot. Following some retail therapy, head over to Upstairs Circus, a unique concept where DIY meets the bar; pick your project, enjoy a libation, create a masterpiece and be merry. Now let’s talk about live music. Whatever your scene is, you’ll find it here. With hundreds of live music venues, you have plenty of options available to soak up the sounds. ACL Live at The Moody Theater is home to the beloved Austin City Limits television show and hosts about 100 concerts year round. With its true passion for its unparalleled live music scene, its championing of local creators and small business owners, and its celebration of its enriching arts and culture offerings, Austin avows a personality all its own and should be next on your playlist. We love it so much!
