Home. It is meant to be a place of retreat, rest, love, and a shelter from the outside world—a place where you can let your guard down and just be. Some homes feel just like that, and some can be filled with conflict and strife. It is never too late to change the climate of our homes. In a world that can be cruel, let the home be a place where we build each other up. Make a continual effort to teach with love, correct with love and express love everyday. Take time to enjoy all the small moments with family instead of getting caught up in all the daily tasks that can steal our attention away—to be truly present when spending time with our family instead of dividing our attention with our technology or to-do list. Although we usually aren’t perfect at accomplishing these things, it is worthwhile to strive for it everyday. This month we sat down with powerhouse, Bethenny Frankel and learned how she manages to do it all and hope that it inspires you to take the next step on the project (whether personal or professional) you have been thinking about. March is our Home and Design issue. Creating a home that you want to spend all of your time in isn’t easy. The memories that are made within the walls of our home are what lasts regardless if our home has the latest trends or if it hasn’t been updated in years. While it is fun to look at beautiful homes and dream about renovations, we all know that the love we share in our homes is truly what matters most. In this year’s Home issue, we draw inspiration from Christine Mulhearne and give you tips to help put together vision boards to design your best life! From our home to yours, we wish you love, peace and happiness.

Modern family in Connecticut: the new and improved Parentage Act Attorney Mark Randall of Needle | Cuda: Divorce and Family Law is presenting an overview of Connecticut's new parentage laws and related statutory protections to the Connecticut Bar Association. Connecticut's cutting edge law specifically addresses the wide ranging dynamics at play with modern families forms. The law marks important shifts away from strict, traditional biologically rooted definitions and social norms. It clarifies important concepts involving surrogacy, technology assisted reproduction, same-sex parental relationships, and multiple parenthood.

Have you ever experienced pain in your calf muscle when walking or a burning sensation in your feet at night when lying in bed? Ever experienced throbbing or aching in the legs when standing that is associated with prominent varicose veins, spider veins, or swelling of the ankle? There may be a vascular reason for your symptoms, and an evaluation by a vascular surgeon could be essential. Many people in our community have never heard of a vascular surgeon and if they have are unclear on what our role is in the medical community. Often people do not realize the importance of vascular surgeons until referred to one by their primary care physician. As vascular surgeons, one of the most common reasons for referrals to us is to identify whether or not there is a vascular cause for symptoms patients are feeling in their legs that may be negatively affecting their lifestyle. In general, there are two main vascular explanations for bothersome leg symptoms. The first possible explanation is an arterial issue. Arteries carry oxygenated blood to the legs and feet, driven by the heart. As we get older, we tend to develop atherosclerotic disease, which is the buildup of plaque in the lining of the arteries. My grandmother used to refer to this as “hardening of the arteries.” As a vascular surgeon evaluating someone for an arterial cause of leg pain, we first obtain a full history and physical, looking specifically at risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, a history of tobacco use, CONTINUED >

coexisting heart disease, high cholesterol, or a family history. We then proceed with our most valuable tool, noninvasive ultrasound studies. These images help to determine whether or not the patient's arteries are narrowed or blocked and whether or not his or her body has compensated for the blockage by forming new blood vessels around these areas; a sort of natural bypass. The second possible explanation we consider as a cause of leg pain that could be inhibiting one’s lifestyle is venous disease. Venous reflux disease is very common, four times more common than arterial disease. We see this condition in a wide variety of patients who come to us for answers including older adults and people who are on their feet for long periods like teachers, nurses, factory workers, food service personnel, and even avid runners. Venous reflux disease occurs because we do not have a pumping heart for the venous side of the circulation. Human beings would not suffer the effects of venous conditions if we had small hearts in our ankles pumping venous blood up the leg against the effect of gravity. Inside our veins are one-way check valves that prevent the venous blood from pooling in the leg due to gravity. These valves are located about every inch in our leg veins and are supposed to close when we stand up to prevent gravity from causing our venous blood to pool in the legs. These check valves have the consistency of a jellyfish, and over time, they weaken and start to leak. When they start to leak, the venous blood pools in the leg and causes painful and unsightly varicose veins, ankle swelling, skin changes, and even ulcerations or wounds on the skin of the ankles. We specialize in both diagnosing and effectively treating this condition as well. The diagnosis for this condition includes a history and physical and a detailed venous ultrasound where we specifically look for any leaky valves. This is a more extensive venous ultrasound compared to an ultrasound performed in

the hospital setting, where the medical staff are simply seeking to identify the presence or absence of a life-threatening blood clot called a deep vein thrombosis or DVT. Ruling out a blood clot as a cause of swelling is extremely important, but often there is no blood clot, and people go home wondering what is causing the swelling. At The Vascular Experts, we have the expertise to both accurately diagnose and effectively treat the cause of the problem. As a practicing board-certified vascular surgeon in our local community for the last 13 years, I have found that leg symptoms that have a vascular source can have a profound effect not just on a person’s lifestyle but on his or her mental health as well. Just to clarify, we are not leg pain doctors but rather we are board-certified vascular surgeons who evaluate for a vascular cause of leg pain, treat that cause, and get you moving again, enjoying your life. The Vascular Experts is the largest independent group of board-certified vascular surgeons in the country with offices across Connecticut and affiliated practices in New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. NEW YOU IN 2022 ARTICLE BY KRISTIN BURNELL
Fitness and health coach Nicole Glor strives to motivate individuals to achieve their exercise and health goals. Through a series of her NikkiFitness branded videos and books, Nicole’s high energy motivates individuals to push themselves out of their comfort zones. We asked Nicole to share her top fitness tips for those starting a new exercise routine or those looking to switch it up at home or in the gym! Tip #1 from fitness expert Nicole Glor: Resolutions are time to wipe away regrets from the last calendar year and begin with a fresh outlook. When setting your resolution, ask yourself, what is your intention for 2022? Are your goals spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, social, or all of the above? If your goal is spiritual, emotional or stress relief, resolve to start your day with a mindful meditation. I always say “stretch your lungs before you stretch your legs,” and taking slow, long deep breaths along with focusing on mantras like, “let go, go with the flow, be present and be grateful.” (The mantras will keep your mind from wandering.) Tip #2: Meditate more often Meditation in the morning sets the tone for the day, makes you grounded, in the moment, and in tune with what is important. For beginner meditators, I recommend apps like Calm or Head Space for 10 minute guided meditation. If you have more time, add one of my free yoga classes by subscribing to the Nikkifitness Channel on YouTube, you’ll breathe and get the blood flowing, then end in a savasana meditation (final relaxation pose). Tip #3: Multitask your workouts If your goal is a physical resolution, like weight loss, toning up, rehabbing from an injury, extending your life

or just tapping into feel-good endorphins, be sure to multitask your workouts to save time, and cross train. Multitasking works by doing upper body toning, lower body strength, core and cardio all at once, like biceps curls along with lunges in one move or burpee push-ups. Multitasking can cut workout time in half, making it more realistic to fit in your schedule. Mentally, adding cardio into your workouts brings energizing, feel-good endorphins so you are guaranteed a good mood before you finish! Yoga and focused breathing bring about a peaceful “afterglow” that can last all day! Tip #4: Switch up your nutrition Nutrition is an important component to your exercise schedule. Keeping a workout and food diary will keep you in track with my next bit of advice: instead of doing a cleanse, add more water and vegan foods to your life. Food is medicine and superfoods that are not processed will do wonders for weight loss and longevity. If your resolutions are social, like more post-pandemic gatherings or cutting down on social drinking, it’s good for you to chose many non-drinking dates like afternoon tea, hikes, and group fitness classes when you are planning to spend time with friends. Tip #5: Put intentions into action The final step is implementing your intentions! Do this locally by planned weekly walking or running at Greenwich Beach with a friend. “Forest bathing” on the Mianus River trail will connect you to nature and your friends, while providing exercise, hitting the “all of the above” goal category with no regrets the next day, or year!

BEING BETHENNY A Modern-Day Renaissance Woman
ARTICLE BY EMILY LIEBERT PHOTOGRAPHY BY SARA HAILE
Don’t ask Bethenny Frankel what she does—because the real question is, what doesn’t she do? As a self-made entrepreneur, her career description ranges from multi-New York Times bestselling author and TV producer, to Founder & CEO of Skinnygirl, a lifestyle brand boasting practical solutions for women. Additionally, she’s launched her own eyewear collection called Bethenny Eyewear, and a new line of wine labeled Forever Young. Not to mention her real estate transactions, her recent HBO Max business competition series The Big Shot with Bethenny, and a partnership with iHeart Radio to create Just B with Bethenny Frankel, her runaway hit podcast. Wait, there’s more. Bethenny’s tenth book, BUSINESS IS PERSONAL: The Truth About What it Takes to Be Successful While Staying True to Yourself, including anecdotes, personal stories, and advice on how to succeed professionally (plus a range of other topics), will publish this May. Sounds like a full plate, right? Not for this powerhouse. Bethenny also devotes an exceptional amount of her time to giving back. Her BStrong program is a disaster relief initiative that provides real time emergency assistance to individuals and their families in crisis. BStrong’s mission is to embolden people struck with tragedy by providing gift cards, emergency aid, food, and shelter. The breadth of her philanthropic efforts is astounding. Yet, even with all of this to oversee, Bethenny’s private life is thriving too. She’s been engaged to businessman and film producer Paul Bernon since March 2021 and her most important “job” of all is being a present and nurturing mother to her 11-yearold daughter, Bryn. We caught up with Bethenny to learn more about how she manages her one-woman empire and what really makes her tick. It might just surprise you… CONTINUED >

YOU FOUNDED SKINNYGIRL IN 2009 AND SOLD THE COCKTAIL PORTION OF THE COMPANY A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER. WHAT’S YOUR CURRENT INVOLVEMENT WITH THE BRAND AND WHERE DO YOU SEE IT HEADING IN THE FUTURE? BF: I'm not involved in the cocktail brand anymore. The cocktails were an instant success, because I created a whole category by being the first person to use the word skinny. Suddenly it was on every menu. With that said, I still own 100% of the Skinnygirl brand, which is thriving and growing. With the other categories— (including cookware, bakeware, drinkware, supplements, apparel, and food & drink) —I started small and I’m growing them authentically and organically each year. So, it's a different trajectory. I don’t just slap my name on things. I'm very involved, very connected, and very attached. It's not easy to constantly have to be promoting, but it's also what makes it genuine. As a result, the brand has great loyalty, which is important to me.
IT FEELS LIKE THERE ARE A ZILLION PODCASTS OUT THERE, INCLUDING MANY FOCUSED ON BUSINESS, WHAT SETS JUST B APART FROM THE PACK? WHAT CHARACTERISTICS DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUEST? BF: The truth of the matter is, I've been fortunate to have amazing guests like Hillary Clinton, Matthew McConaughey, and so many more. Our conversations are what make the podcast successful, which includes my natural curiosity about a person's story and the questions I ask. People keep saying to me, “No one has ever asked me that before. I'm going to use that.” My listeners are also obsessed with my rants. I could be talking about something very serious like divorce and something ridiculous like cilantro in the same sentence and people love them equally. The rant has become a breakout star. I got a massive response to the one I did on divorce—thousands of letters.

As far as the guest, it doesn’t have to be somebody rich and famous whom everybody knows. For example, I’m interviewing Dorothy Hamill; she was the face of a sport, but she’s not the same as having Cameron Diaz. I choose the individuals I want to speak to. I don’t do what I think will sell. I don't rat people out. I don't go for the low-hanging fruit. People need to trust me. It could be, with any luck, Warren Buffett or Mark Zuckerberg, or someone much lesser known as long as they’ve built something, and I find them interesting. My podcast is a passion project. When I started it, I had no idea that there was any metric. I didn’t know that we could be the top five of anything. I didn't even know there was a top five. I did it because I like talking to people, and I'm excited to hear what they have to stay. I’ve remained true to that.
YOU’VE INVESTED IN AND FLIPPED MANY HOMES. HOW DID THIS INTEREST DEVELOP? AND WHAT DRAWS YOU TO A SPECIFIC PROPERTY? BF: When I bought my first big apartment in New York City, I didn’t know I could completely customize it. I didn’t realize you could pick your faucets or your caulk color. I was always the person who lived in a studio apartment that you bought the way it was, and the closet was the way it was, and it was really glamorous if you switched out your microwave and got some nice towels. So, I ended up renovating that apartment, and I really had a knack for it. I’m very decisive about it—the way I am in business. Right away, I know what I want to do and what I don't want to do. I could think longer on a bowl of pasta at a restaurant. I paid around $5 million for the place and sold it for $7 million in one day, all cash, full ask. After that, I renovated another place, kept gaining more and more experience, and I continue to invest in properties and flip them in markets that I predict will go through the roof. I do really well because I'm good at getting things done economically. I'm good at using space. And I'm creative and fast. Real estate is not a business for me. I couldn't do that. There are too many details involved and I’m too organized, but I do really like it as another passion project. I like looking. I’m always curious CONTINUED > MAR CH 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . and love to calculate that something is going to increase in value or that a specific area is going to be hot. If I see something that I feel is such a deal I can't pass it up, I’ll buy it. It's an investment, but—at the same time—I would never purchase a home I wouldn't live in myself.
YOUR COMMITMENT TO PHILANTHROPIC RELIEF EFFORTS ACROSS THE GLOBE HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE. AS A CELEBRITY, YOU COULD HAVE SAT BACK AND THROWN MONEY AT THESE DISASTERS. WHAT INCITED YOU TO ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES AND TAKE ON THE ACTUAL WORK? BF: If you throw money at these things, you might as well flush it down the toilet because the big companies that post links to

donate can't work as immediately, as hands-on, and in such a lean way. With us, 100% goes to the effort. We’re right there while it's still going on, in many cases, and our model is efficient; we execute. Nobody has been able to do what we’ve been able to do on the same budget. With these major organizations, you're just giving your money to someone who’s going to take a large percentage of it; it's very bureaucratic. No disrespect, but we don't do that. I don’t want any awards. I don't care about that stuff. My only focus is getting the money from the people donating to the people suffering; it's very simple. If you care about your money, treat it like a business. What is your ROI? You wouldn't buy a stock and just throw the money in the air. You have to know where your money is going, and we’ve
been very transparent from the beginning. I don't pretend that I'm an expert. We figure out what the problem is, what people need, and we formulate a plan. Sometimes our goal is to raise $100 thousand and we hit $3 million. Things change based on what's actually happening, but we never make promises we can't deliver on.
IN AN INTERVIEW WITH FORBES YOU SAID, “IN MY LIFE, I ONLY EVER WRITE A BOOK IF IT’S JUST SORT OF DYING TO COME OUT OF ME.” WHAT PROMPTED YOU TO AUTHOR YOUR FIRST BUSINESS BOOK? AND WHAT CAN READERS EXPECT TO LEARN FROM IT? BF: Through talking to so many entrepreneurs on my podcast and also discussing so many of my own stories, I found that people kept saying, “It's not personal, it’s business.” And I kept thinking, business is personal, which really inspired the book. It sounds ridiculous and tiresome, but when you do a juice fast, at the beginning you might be hungry, then you cleanse for a couple of days and all of a sudden you're not hungry anymore. Once you start to get hungry again, the juice fast is over. It’s kind of like the book process, you're writing and you're expelling all of this information. You're up at night remembering these stories and takeaways—everything you’ve learned along the way. Then, just like that, one day you're not doing that anymore. The book is done. It’s really me pouring out the majority of the crazy stuff that's happened to me in business, which is so great because it's a roadmap that people can learn from.
WHAT DOES MOTHERHOOD MEAN TO YOU? BF: Everything. It's the point of entry for every single thing I do. It’s always about Bryn. The second that a business opportunity gets offered to me, my whole team knows that if it’s a day I have Bryn, it’s off the table. It's probably slowed my business down or impacted it in a negative way at some point, but that’s what you do when you have a child, because you want to be the best role model you can be. Motherhood affects your whole outlook on the world—your safety, your health, all of it.
I can’t live without… Obviously my daughter Bryn, my fiancé Paul, and my dogs, but superficially…matcha lattes, kombucha, salty snacks, my Biologique Recherche P50 1970 lotion, my weighted blanket, my bed, my own bathroom, and my own separate closet. My last meal would be… Eggplant parmesan with angel hair pasta. I’m currently binge watching… All Narcos, all the time. My ideal vacation spot is… Miraval or Rosewood Mayakoba. I also love St. Barts and Portofino, Italy. Two items on my bucket list are… Visiting Morocco and hosting Saturday Night Live MAR CH 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/ G R E E N W I C H

ARTICLE BY KRISTIN BURNELL
GL: Can you tell us a little bit yourself and what you do? CM: I am a Motivational Speaker and Instructor focused on helping women build the best version of themselves by becoming their own cheerleader. I’ve taken my 20 years of Media Sales experience, plus the 13 years of lessons and wisdom that I learned from Oprah Winfrey as her Ad Style Director at O, The Oprah Magazine, and combined them with all my experiences of life’s twists and turns. During my 13 years at O, I was driving revenue by selling our “live your best life” mission to clients. Although I was breaking records, CONTINUED > MAR CH 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . “Vision Boards are your goals, dreams and intentions and they deserve to be paid attention to and focused on every single day. That’s why you create a Vision Board, to give yourself pictures of what your life is going to look like in the future.” — Christine Mulhearne
I was also breaking down. I realized that the motto I was pushing out to advertisers shouldn’t just apply to my job, but to also my personal life. The signs were there but I wasn’t ready to read them – even when they were the size of a billboard. As hard as it was to admit, I needed an overhaul on my life to actually LIVE the best of it! Finally accepting that I needed a change, I did what every New Yorker does: leave New York. When I moved out in 2020, I was divorced, living through a pandemic like everyone else, working from home while being a home-school teacher and about to be jobless when we’d find out O Magazine was folding for good. In September of 2020, I sold my house in New York, James and I moved to Old Greenwich. When I got the call a few months later that O Magazine was officially closing their doors, I could see that my new career path was unfolding in front of my eyes. Now, I am grateful for the opportunity to share my experience and enthusiasm with companies and individuals who see that the biggest gift they could ever give themselves, is to become the best version of themselves by being their own cheerleader. GL: What makes your vision boards unique? CM: The most unique piece of my vision board is that I have put a picture of myself in each one of the goals and dreams that I have. I learned a long time ago, that looking at a picture of someone else in really great shape, didn’t motivate me to lose the weight I wanted. So, I took down the pictures of Britney Spears (and her sensational abs) and replaced them with photos of myself when I was happy with how I looked. Important to note that it wasn’t just the way I looked, the number on the scale, but the smile on my face, the happiness I had when I was looking and feeling a way that I was happy with.
My board is unique because it is covered in quotes! Words are my love language and seeing an inspirational quote pumps me up. Vision Boards work! As I was just reminded again when I was asked to be a Guest on Oprah’s Vision Board Workshop on OprahDaily.com. I had put a picture of myself and Drew Barrymore together because I want to be a guest on her TV show this year. And guess who surprised me and showed up? Drew Barrymore! Action Item for you: If one of your goals or intentions for the New Year is to exercise more, than take a picture of yourself the next time you go to the gym. In your favorite work out gear, sneakers, head phones in and a huge smile. Print that picture out and put it on your board, refrigerator, mirror or at your desk. Someplace where you will look at that picture everyday and think, look at me working out and loving it! And that will motivate you and inspire you to keep going! If one of your resolutions is to have more date nights, spend more time with or re-connect with your Spouse - go through all of your old photos of you two together and take the ones that make you the most happiest, the most loved – college days, your wedding photos, when you bought your first house! All of these photos will immediately make you feel happy and loved, put them on your Vision Board to inspire you every day. GL: What is something you want to tell readers about the vision board process for those who haven’t done it before? CM: I see Vision Boards as pictures of moments that just haven’t happened yet but will! After the past two years of uncertainness, uneasiness and one challenge after the next, it is time to take control, of what you can, in your life. And that all starts with creating a vision. Creating the board is the easy part. It’s answering CONTINUED >

the question, “what does the life I REALLY want to be living look like” that can be a little tough. Not actually knowing what you want is what stops most people from making a Vision Board or allows them to think that they don’t work or its not worth their time. Action Item for you: If you’re not exactly sure what you want – ask yourself some of these questions: • How do I want to feel in 2022? What emotions do I want to feel more of this year? Joy, excitement, passion, purpose, confidence, calmness, peacefulness? • What successful habits have you created this year that you can continue with and bring into 2022? Exercising regularly, eating healthier, creating a better work/life balance, focusing on my side hustle. • What can I let go of and release that will help me live a happier year? Opinions of other people, debt and money choices that are keeping me stuck, unhealthy eating habits that I cant seem to break. I would want to tell people to get excited because this is one of the best gifts you can give yourself! The gift of focusing on your own happiness, your greatest goals, your biggest dreams. And believing in those dreams so much that you write them down and post them up for you to look at daily. And then prepare to receive all that happiness, joy, excitement, success and love come into your life. GL: Can you explain the importance of vision boarding and its benefits? CM: As Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is everything, it is the preview of life’s coming attractions”. So many of us have stopped imagining what our lives could look like and started living the life that was showing up. We have stopped imaging our lives filled with all the things we really want; the house, the job, the family, the excitement, the enthusiasm, the joy, the health the business. We have gotten so busy trying to keep our heads above water that we just give in to what’s right in front of us. Or, we have simply lost hope that the life we really want, is just not possible for us. I am here to remind you that the very best is yet to come. Hear me when I say that you can create the life you want and the person that you want to be. Its not too late, its not too hard and it is absolutely within your reach. Vision Boards are your goals, dreams and intentions and they deserve to be paid attention to and focused on every single day.

That’s why you create a Vision Board, to give yourself pictures of what your life is going to look like in the future. If you want a certain lifestyle, car, house, job, relationship, feeling, or sense of purpose, youmust decide you want it, believe that you deserve it and believe you are going to have it. A vision board reminds you of all of those intentions and goals by using pictures to inspire you every day. Action Item for you: Think of a Vision Board as your ideal Instagram feed. You wake up in the morning, open your phone and scroll through one amazing image after the next. Its like the algorithm knows you perfectly, each picture is exactly what you want your life to be filled with. As you keep scrolling, your heart is pounding with excitement and happiness because everything you are seeing is exactly what you want in life! What would you want to scroll through on this feed? GL: Tell us a little bit about the services you provide. CM: My services encourage, motivate and teach people How To Build The Best You by Being Your Own Cheerleader. I offer Motivational and Keynote Speaking on both of these topics. As well as an instructor teaching classes and trainings for both individuals and corporations based on that mission. We are meeting this moment in time because companies now understand that when their staff is encouraged to focus on being their best self, that results in employees who will deliver increased productivity, revenue and less turn over and employees who want to contribute in a bigger way and have more purpose and passion. Classes Include: 1. Goal Setting: Steps on how to become the best version of yourself: When we improve, our life improves – personally and professionally. How to set goals that create the best you that you can bring to your job and career. 2. Know Your Worth and THEN negotiate the deal or salary: If you don’t know your worth, you will sell and settle for less. 3. Life is happening FOR you not TO you: Knowing that every setback, difficulty or disappointment is just redirecting you back to the path that is meant for you. Lessons in how to stay motivated and encouraged in your job and career while enduring and embracing the challenging moments.

CITY LIFESTYLE: SHARE WITH US YOUR BACKGROUND AND THE INFLUENCE IT HAD ON YOUR JOURNEY TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY. DAPHNE OZ : I was born in Philly, raised in
New Jersey, and now my husband and our four kids and I live in Florida. I spend a few days each week working in NYC taping our new syndicated talk show, The Good Dish, covering everything delicious in daytime which is a dream job for an eater by nature, by calling and by choice—like I am. My mother’s family is part Italian and my father’s family is Turkish, and these two incredible food cultures inform so much of how I grew up eating and how I love to cook now. The vibrance of flavors, passion for gathering family and friends to the table, and effortless ways in which simple meals become beautiful memories are just some of the ways I try to infuse all my cooking with the joy of this heritage. I’ve been to culinary school, but every bite I take continues my education, and the foundation of my love of cooking started at my mother’s and grandmother’s elbows, watching and then helping them whip up these delicious, nourishing meals for their big families. A perfect example of the kind of epically memorable, wonderfully simple recipes I grew up on is my Grandmother’s Eggless Caesar Salad. It’s bright with lemon and garlic, one or two secret ingredients, plenty of pecorino and parmesan cheese, and ultra-creamy despite no raw eggs! It’s one of my absolute favorite salads, so I made it into an IGTV recipe video about a year ago that has been viewed nearly 7.5 million times online. I get giddy every time someone shares a photo or video of them making it at home.
CL: WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR HOSTING A MEMORABLE DINNER PARTY AT HOME? DO: When I entertain, my general approach
is: Abundant Simplicity. Appetizers are generous piles of a few different things – olives, hunks of parmesan, spiced nuts, torn bread with herby oil to dunk in, sliced Persian cucumbers with a pool of labne or Greek yogurt, olive oil, and flaky salt for
dipping. I look for recipes that are simple or that I’ve made 100 times before that are always crowd pleasers and leave me plenty of time to enjoy my company. The whole point of a beautiful evening together is to make sure you, the host, are relaxed and comfortable, because your guests will take their cue from you. I always set a drink out that guests can help themselves to when they arrive, which frees my hands up to continue any final preparations and has the added benefit of helping them get comfortable and feel right at home.. I like to think my decorating melds are simple, elegant and polished with very plush, soft, round edges, and I love anything that feels handmade with a story to tell. I love making edible centerpieces and will put tons of bowls and platters out in the center of the table spilling over with fresh produce or herbs in terracotta planters that guests can help themselves to. I enjoy colorful glasses, tons of gold candlesticks, and then handmade ceramic plates and pretty, linen napkins to keep it textural. If you’re looking for a yummy signature cocktail, I’ve fallen in love with the Plume & Petal range of mid-proof premium infused vodkas (and am thrilled to be their newest brand ambassador!). Each of their lemon, peach and cucumber flavors is naturally infused and layered with essences like white tea and elderflower and just a hint of honey for sweetness, so the taste is sophisticated and bespoke.
CL: WHAT INSPIRED YOUR NEWEST COOKBOOK AND WHAT CAN WE GET EXCITED ABOUT? DO: In “Eat Your Heart Out: All-Fun, No-Fuss
Food To Celebrate Eating Clean” I share the techniques I’ve used to get my mind, energy and body back on track after each pregnancy or anytime I’ve needed to reboot good habits—without ever losing the joy of cooking, the fun of mealtime and the stress-free pleasure of doing it intuitively. “Eat Your Heart Out” is a collection of 150 recipes free from gluten and refined sugar that have consistently helped me lose weight without ever disappointing my demanding tastebuds—or making healthy eating feel like a job I don’t need or want. CL: IN ADDITION TO YOUR COOKBOOK, WHAT ARE SOME HOUSE-WARMING OR DINNER HOST GIFT SUGGESTIONS? DO: I find a little gift basket of some of my favorite sea-
soning essentials goes a long way and feels personal and unique. I’ll add things like a favorite herbal tea like the Plain- Rooibos Passionfruit, some delicious Kosterina or Fancy Peasant olive oil, Westbourne Togarashi Crunch (such as an incredible salty-crispy pairing with buttery togarashi spiced chex cereal, toasty nuts, and a little bit of sweet to balance the spice! It’s the perfect bar snack FYI), Daphnis & Chloe herbs and spices (love their quality and pretty glass jars!), Gjelina Honey Trio, Maldon Flaky Smoked Sea Salt, Primo Botanica Tree Hugger Chaga Chocolate, Olive & Linen Turkish Hand Towels…the list goes on and on! It’s so much fun to discover amazing small brands and share these yummy finds with friends. When it comes to housewarming, helping to outfit the bar is a safe bet. I love the swanky, retro feel of these Fizz Glasses. A gorgeous wood cutting board that is simple enough to go with any decor and as lovely to display as it is to use.
