FOR MOST OF US TEA EVOKES IMAGES OF A WARM, COMFORTING CUP TO SOOTHE YOU; OR A REFRESHING, ICED PICK ME UP. You'd be less likely to think of a cocktail or a canned drink, right? Local entrepreneurs and tea enthusiasts Jennie Ripps and Maria Littlefield are changing all of that. They founded Owl’s Brew with a vision of creating freshly brewed, bubbly and boozy, organic teas. Greenwich resident and co-founder, Ripps is a tea sommelier who has crafted iced tea and tea cocktails programs for restaurants including Momofuku, Sweetgreen, Soho House and Edition hotels. Owl’s Brew is a result of a lifelong passion and respect for ingredients that come from the earth, and not from a lab. She believes there is a "natural progression" from refreshing iced

Greenwich Lifestyle | June 2021

tea to spiked, iced, sparkling tea. Plus, hard tea boasts a "more robust flavor," according to Ripps. Tea is hydrating and has a lot of unique antioxidants, so there's a little baseline of benefit, even when alcohol is added. Those benefits are part of why Ripps and Littlefield started Owl's Brew. "The reason we started making cocktails with tea is if you fresh brew the tea, (then you) get something back," Littlefield said. On a mission to make the most refreshing, and delicious boozy beverages in the world, Owl’s Brew products are brewed from whole leaf tea and botanicals. Owl’s Brew’s Boozy Tea comes in an array of flavors like Matcha, Chamomile & Pineapple, English Breakfast Tea, Lemon & Lime, Darjeeling Tea & Hibiscus Flowers, and White Tea, Raspberry & Watermelon, as well as a new flavor, Jasmine, Blueberry & Lemon, which launched this spring. Owl’s Brew’s hand-crafted, freshly brewed Boozy Tea is available at Whole Foods in Greenwich, Total Wine in Norwalk, as well as across the country in other major retailers like Trader Joe’s, Total Wine, GoPuff, and more. Faith, Integrity, Sacrifice, Leadership and Legacy AN UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL LOOK AT THE LIFE AND WORK OF ALLAN HOUSTON

NBA LEGEND ALLAN HOUSTON AND HIS WIFE TAMARA HAVE BUILT A LIFE IN GREENWICH WITH THEIR SEVEN CHILDREN FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS. In that time, they have developed strong legacies and a winning commitment to helping others through the Allan Houston Legacy Foundation, which is focused on family, economic empowerment, education and spiritual growth. His foundation was build to help others nationally, but has made an impact on the Greenwich community as Allan often partners with the Greenwich Boys and Girls Club to run programs that will empower our youth. A man of faith and strong family values, Allan lives his life with the determination to apply his success as a professional athlete to help others. More recently, Allan has partnered with MIKU Sushi. During the month of June, 100% of proceeds from a special menu will benefit FISLL, Allan's youth empowerment non-profit, and promote the organization's initiatives. Allan’s relationship with Christ has been instrumental in his philanthropic work. It’s given him a navigation system where he doesn’t have to worry about what other people think. “In a world where people can be very critical and try to diminish your value, centering my life around Christ has been invaluable. Believing in a higher power has given me peace and a positive model to follow,” Allan emphasizes. Since its creation in 2001, the Allan Houston Legacy Foundation (AHLF) has served thousands of participants across the country through programs that promote youth 28

mentoring, responsible fatherhood, and entrepreneurship. In addition, he has served as a spokesperson for the National Fatherhood Initiative, an international ambassador for the NBA, and an analyst for ESPN. Allan is best known for his years as shooting guard for the New York Knicks, (1996 – 2005). Touted as one of the “purest shooters” in the NBA, Allan finished his career as one of the NBA’s all-time greatest long-range shooters (#11 in three pointers made) and one of the all-time leading scorers in Knicks history (#2 in three pointers, #4 in total points, and #8 in scoring average). Allan is a two-time NBA All-Star, and in his last healthy season (2002-03) finished as the 10th leading scorer in the league. The former NBA player has accomplished numerous successes, but he is most proud of being awarded the title of ‘Good Guys in Sports’ four times by The Sporting News. He is also responsible in assisting Team USA’s gold medal win at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Allan’s dedication to helping others is demonstrated through the exciting work of AHLF. Foundation programs include “Father Knows Best” Basketball Retreats; the Allan Houston Business Education and Development Program, and his newest program, the Allan Houston Mentoring Initiative (AHMI), launched in 2016. AHLF has used a leadership and relationship development system, FISLL, created by Allan and his family to power its programs. FISLL is a life learning, development, and coaching platform that teaches and actuates 5 essential values of Faith, Integrity, Sacrifice, Leadership, & Legacy as the transformational Fundamentals of Life. FISLL’s mission is to engage, equip and inspire leaders with these values by combining digital and experiential learning that incorporate training in the 3 dimensions of mind, body and spirit. FISLL is being used by individuals, corporations, schools, community and sports programs, to great acclaim. In recognition of his committed work to improve the lives of youth, Allan was named “Father of the Year” by the National Fatherhood Initiative in 2007; “Social Entrepreneur of the Year” by Tulane University in 2008, and received the President’s Council on Service and Civic Engagement Award from the Obama Administration in 2011. In 2015, Houston was honored by the Tennessee State Legislature for his Foundation’s extraordinary work in the community.
