Where Would We Be Without You? WOW, GREENWICH. How can it be that we are already nearing the end of the year? The holidays will be here before we know it, and pretty soon we will be writing out our 2021 resolutions. Before everything gets crazy and we start shopping for all of the people on our gift list, we want to take this time to pause and reflect. This year has been a wonderful journey with all of you, and we are grateful that we get to create this magazine every month and connect with you and your family. Thank you for sharing your stories and

for reading ours. Thank you for supporting the local businesses in our community, as without them, this magazine wouldn’t be possible. Thank you for the community service you do and for every time you recycle something or play a small part in keeping Greenwich clean and thriving. We are so proud of where we live, and we know it wouldn’t be the same without each and every one of you. In this issue, we offer you the opportunity to reflect with us and spend some time being grateful for the people we have around us. Sure, planning a Thanksgiving dinner and traveling to see family can be stressful, and don’t worry, we’re here to help with some of the details. But don’t forget to look at each person around your table and remember how they have made a difference in your life. We wouldn’t be here without each other.

In a small saucepan, heat the chicken stock and dissolve the bouillon cubes in the stock. In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt the butter and sauté the onions over medium-low heat for 10 to 15 minutes, until translucent. Add the flour and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. 4. Add the hot chicken stock to the sauce. Simmer over low heat for 1 more minute, stirring, until thick. Add 2 teaspoons salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper, and heavy cream. Add the turkey, carrots, peas, onions and parsley. Mix well. 5. Divide the filling equally among 5-6 individual ovenproof bowls or make one large pie in a casserole dish. Divide & shape the puff pastry dough accordingly leaving one inch larger than the bakeware. Brush the outside edges of each bowl with the egg wash, then place the dough on top. Press it against the sides to make it stick. Brush the dough with egg wash and make 3 slits in the top. Sprinkle with sea salt and cracked pepper. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling hot. *The filling can be fully prepared and frozen.

SQUAT IT DOWN AND KICK IT OUT TAKING YOUR WORKOUT WITH YOU

WHEN IT COMES TO KEEPING UP WITH AN ACTIVE AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, WE CAN’T LET TRAVEL, WORK, OR LACK OF GYM ACCESS GET IN OUR WAY OR ELSE WE’D NEVER SEE RESULTS! That’s why outdoor workouts can be a great option. Leann Kelly from Club Sweat Greenwich showed us some exercises from their new Strength 30 class that can be done anywhere on those days you can’t make it to a class. This sequence is perfect on its own or pared with some outdoor cardio, such as a run. Club Sweat has made it easy for everyone to get a workout in by partnering up with FORTË, an online streaming service that allows you to take classes live or on demand where ever you are. For those that are ready to get back into live workouts Club Sweat has taken many measures to ensure everyone remains safe while enjoying a great workout. Their COVID-19 protocols include 50% reduced class capacity, no shared equipment, clients spaced eight feet apart, temperature check upon arrival, masks remain on until you arrive at your station. It is so important to warm your muscles at the beginning of every workout. One great way to do this is with a straight arm plank, you can challenge yourself by adding knee taps or side planks. Every move in this workout can be modified by adding or removing the use of weights, make it work for you!

“WE WANT THE COMMUNITY TO KNOW THAT ‘WE ARE HERE FOR THEM.’” Frank J. Gaudio

Thankful for Greenwich When we sat down with Frank and asked what he was post thankful for he told us “his team and the community”. At First Bank of Greenwich they have everything the ‘BIG’ banks have with all the local feels. Emily Newcamp, Vice President and Retail Banking Manager, says “We are more like a private bank without any of the additional fees and no red tape” -- we joked that Frank is the red tape if you want to get something done and everyone has his cell phone. “No one is a number here” says Frank. Hundreds of clients were able to receive PPP loans through the constant hard work of the amazing team. We know that Frank and his team are here for the community.

Priceless are the stories that our grandparents tell of the days when they would sit on their front porch waving to neighbors and visiting with friends. In those days front porch sitting had more to do with the absence of

3

Something to see… Bring on the layering of flowers, pumpkins or candles to bring the space to life! I like to work with different heights and textures (here I placed my chrysanthemums in bushel baskets from Hobby Lobby and placed them on stools to elevate them to eye level). The possibilities are endless so be creative and have fun!

4

Something to eat… Fill a basket with caramel apples on sticks, kettle corn in brown paper bags, coffee or tea in paper travel cups. I love using baskets and trays to easily transport items from my kitchen to the outdoor space. Keep it practical. If your porch is covered then everything can live outside all season long. If your gathering place is open to the elements then designate a spot indoors, such as a corner in your coat closet, to store your outdoor pillows and blanket on those dewy nights and rainy days. Then, you’ll always know where they are when it’s time to pull them out as friends come by. Here’s to building your own new memories with old front porch traditions!
