WE’VE ALL HAD THAT MOMENT WHEN OUR CLOSET IS FULL BUT WE CAN’T FIND A THING TO WEAR. Whether it’s too big, too small, or just plain last season, it can be difficult to find the perfect thing to put on. It’s no wonder, too. Our style is the first thing the rest of the world sees and, no matter how much or how little we want to admit it, deep down we all care a little about how the world perceives us. With style being all around us (whether in the form of clothing, hair, accessories, home decor or an awesome dish at your favorite restaurant) and such an integral part of our lives, we’re excited to introduce you to our September issue—have you guessed it yet? The style issue! Whether you’re interested in a complete fall wardrobe refresh or are just looking for a few tips to bring your style into the next season, we’re excited to share with you the stylings of Green Hills. We’re not just into clothes and accessories, though.

Have You Visited Bison Meadow Park Recently? Forest Hills city officials established Bison Meadow in 1994 as a Tennessee Bicentennial Project. It's similar to a Middle Tennessee “barrens or prairie” natural area, which is now rare. The 2.5-acre park is on the historic Natchez Trace, which followed the path of buffalo, elk, and other large animals heading to the big salt lick on the Cumberland River. of customers, time-permitting. New to the Nashville Mednikow items are AeroDiamonds, for which manufacturer Jacqueline Earle uses laser technology to create "diamonds in space" for today's modern lifestyle. Another new product is William Henry knives, with each one being unique and hand-engraved. "There are collectors of these knives, which really are pieces of art," Jay says. He adds that Nashville shoppers also are especially interested in their Bremont and Hermes collections of men's watches. Renovating the new space to create the correct jewelry shopping ambiance inside of Levy's was surprisingly easy, Jay says. "We have a lot of natural light and a really great atmosphere. Our showcases fit nicely into the space, with an artistic rearranging, to provide an air of elegance." Jay says he hopes everyone finds them in their new location, about 1.5 miles or a block away from the previous one. Customers from 30 to 40 years ago continue to find them, he says, after they operated the jewelry department in the Rich, Schwartz & Joseph Clothing Store in Nashville during the 1970s to 1980s. The store ceased operating in 1987. "Some of those Nashville Rich-Schwartz customers drove to Memphis to continue jewelry shopping with us after the store closed. And some are still customers with us after we opened in Nashville," he says. Lifelong relationships are a part of Mednikow Jewelers' reputation. Another one of their coveted offerings is a lifetime diamond trade. LEVY'S Levy’s is known as Nashville’s ultimate destination for women's and men's lux-

R IT WAS A SPRING FASHION SHOW FOR THE FALL SEASON, BUT A MERE CATWALK WOULD NOT SUFFICE. Instead, a stage was needed, and a titanic one, too. Because upon it—and before a packed crowd
standing
shoulder-to-shoulder
downtown last April—stood a group of larger-than-life hometown heroes: Jurrell Casey and Taylor Lewan, Kevin Byard and Delanie Walker, Brian Orakpo and Marcus Mariota. Each man his own person, each man blessed with his own particular skills and abilities, but each man also fused into a single, cohesive unit through the power of teamwork and the magic of style. It was the unveiling of the Titans’ new uniforms, a preview of the team’s seriously sharp new look. The crowd went wild. Let’s take it from the top, starting with the helmet. Gone are the two blue stripes, replaced by a single slash of two-toned silver. It’s a sword, a symbol that runs throughout the new uniform. The inspiration? Think Titans of Greek mythology, the primordial gods who battled the Olympians in what were arguably the first Super Bowls, a series of epic struggles called the Titanomachy. Also, think Parthenon and Nashville as the “Athens of the South.” It quickly becomes clear that the ancient Greek theme to our city predates even Music Row and hot chicken. Hence the sword element, appearing as well on the shoulders of the jerseys along with “sheaths” on the sides of the pants.

TAME THE BEAST REDEFINES MEN’S PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS ARTICLE JULIE BROWN PATTON PHOTOGRAPHY HANY RAMZY GREEN HILLS RESIDENT JOHN CASCARANO, FOUNDER AND OWNER OF TAME THE BEAST, IS FORWARD-THINKING ABOUT GROOMING PRODUCTS SPECIFICALLY FOR MALES. He's committed to creating men's styling products with arousing scents and energizing properties, completely made in the USA. In 2015, John launched an online retail beauty brands company, which led to his interest in understanding how such products were made. Because he says guys have physically thicker skin than women, men want products with "tingly sensations." So, he first combined eucalyptus, green tea, menthol and other ingredients. "Ideas came to me once I had children and was approaching early middle age about what I could improve in my life. Guys are always chasing buzzes— coffee, sex, the gym. I realized there are only a few places where guys can let down their guard and really relax, and one of them is in the shower," John says. He eventually created what he called "Tame the Beast" body wash. By mid-2016, he began selling it on Amazon. And by the end of 2016, he started selling from his own website, GetBeast.com, while diversifying into shampoo, conditioner and shaving products. "There was a disparity between the number of products for men and women, and men like simplicity. A few years ago, men were starting to think more about using anti-aging products. So I wanted to give guys a product

that wakes them up and helps them recharge," John says. The recent popularity of beards pushed more men in the direction of needing styling products, John reflects.

GREEN HILL’S NEWEST SALON OPENS FOR ALL THINGS HAIR ARTICLE JULIE BROWN PATTON PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY SPOKE & WEAL
WHAT WOULD YOU THINK ABOUT A HAIR STUDIO WHERE TALENT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF? Where clients have fun being indulged and refreshed? One at which Aveda products are the norm? And one at which Spoke & Weal simplicity and creativity rules? Under the banners of founders New York hairstylist Jon Reyman, along with California native and nationally acclaimed Aveda hair color specialist Christine Thompson, Green Founder Jon Reyman
Hills is receiving Spoke & Weal's newest salon at 3990 Hillsboro Pike, Suite 230. Jon says they completed a soft opening in August. At press time, the Nashville crew was planning to throw a grand opening party in late September. After
a
thorough
consultation,
the
award-winning salon offers trend-setting dry cuts, color, styling and Aveda hair care. "If your hair looks good dry and straight, then it will look right in other ways," says Jon, who is a dry-cut guru because that method avoids surprises in hair lengths and textures. Helping clients glow from the inside out is the Spoke & Weal objective. The salon's mission is to "build and maintain a culture that promotes wellness, strives for excellence, supports collaboration and fosters creativity." They say they just happen to do hair. Other Spoke & Weal locations include California's Los Angeles, San Francisco and Palo Alto, in addition to Soho New York, Chicago and Boston. The original salon launched in 2013. Client reviews for Spoke & Weal use words such as "knowledgeable, warm, versatile and kind." Some indicate the staffers are equipped with the foresight to know what will look best on different clients and the compassion to understand what fits various lifestyles and personalities. Jon likely will be available for personal appointments in Green Hills about every six weeks. 34
