FOR SOME, THE HOT SUMMER MONTHS SEEM TO DRAG ON. With plenty of time to start a project, many people choose to reorganize items accumulating at their homes. Kylee Clement, design and sales manager of California Closets of Tennessee, says she and the company's team of consultants believe exceptional design can transform people’s lives. Green Hills Lifestyle asked Kylee how to initiate organizational approaches to living areas closely linked to summer-oriented, outdoor activities. Here are a few tips on getting your space in tip-top shape.

ESTABLISHING A FUNCTIONAL MUDROOM Establishing a Functional Mudroom When approaching mudrooms, Kylee encourages everyone to consider items that always end up on the floor by the door or land on the kitchen counter. She says mudroom organization can be locker-style for each family member or a general storage area. Hooks are great for items needed for everyday quick access, such as keys, dog leashes, backpacks, purses, caps or hats. Drawers and baskets are great ways to store umbrellas, sunglasses, gloves, scarves, restaurant coupons and takeout menus. In the Nashville area, Kylee says the trend is to use darker and two-tone options for mudrooms and to hide as much as possible behind doors or in drawers. Incorporating metals in garages and mudrooms, such as pronounced aluminum handles, plays off metals of vehicles and shiny, outdoor equipment. 16

Staying true to 600 years of brewing tradition, some of the area's most creative ales are brewed at Black Abbey. The tap room, known as Fellowship Hall, is open every afternoon for customers to try the Belgian-inspired beers. THE BLUEBIRD CAFE Green Hills is home to The Bluebird Cafe where guests experience "in-the-round" shows in an intimate setting. The cafe has a national reputation as THE place to be heard in Nashville if you’re a songwriter. Indeed, this is where Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift scored record deals, and where Dierks Bentley and Keith Urban played open-mic nights before they were famous. Even The Bluebird Cafe bartenders and staff have been known to pull up chairs and perform. For early shows, the church pew area (about 10 to 12 seats) is available for first-come, first-served seating when doors open. For the late shows, almost every seat is reserved in advance. More than 5,500 people are expected to attend the festival held July 28 at Walk of Fame Park. Benefitting the Nashville Humane Association, Brewer's Fest will feature more than 40 local, regional, national and imported beers. Dodgeball is back at the fest due to high demand.
