Style is not limited to the clothes we wear or the way we adorn ourselves; it encompasses every aspect of our lives. From the way we decorate our homes to the music we listen to, from the books we read to the way we carry ourselves in conversations, style permeates every facet of our existence. It is the thread that weaves together the tapestry of our lives.
Style is deeply personal. And it evolves as we celebrate our quirks, our passions, and our desires. Style is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, as it enables us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.
As individuals, we have the freedom to embrace established styles, blend them together, or forge entirely new paths, becoming trendsetters ourselves. We hope this issue inspires you to forge new paths or perhaps explore familiar ones. There is so much here in Gilbert to uplift our spirits, boost your productivity and ignite your creativity.
What I’ve found is that the best style is an authentic expression of who you really are. And that’s something no one on earth can duplicate.
Here’s to being uniquely you!

The use of social media has a variety of benefits, including connection, education, and innovation. That being said, the use of social media is not all positive and can have serious implications on your mental health.
If you find yourself checking your social media as a reflex, it may be time to consider implementing more mindfulness into your consumption of social media. Here are three tips to try when creating more mindful social media use.
1. Set your intentions. When looking to use social media, ask yourself what you are hoping to get from it. Are you hoping to connect with others or are you wanting an escape from your daily stressors? Creating clear intentions will lead to higher levels of mindfulness and satisfaction with your social media use.
2. Cut out comparison. One of the most detrimental parts of using social media is the tendency to compare your real life to someone’s highlight reel. This negatively affects self-esteem and creates harmful patterns of social media use. Removing comparisons may require reminders that what you see may not always be reality.
3. Detox when needed. It’s important to take breaks from social media as spending too much time on it can lead to you missing out on what is happening around you and create feelings of disconnection.
If your social media use is not a positive experience for you, step away and connect to the world around you in other ways.

What does the type of drink I choose reveal about your fashion sense? Picture this—
You enter a trendy Gilbert bar, scanning the menu for the perfect beverage. You choose a mocktail with a hint of lavender and know that it's the perfect match for your red flowy dress and green earrings.
Well, what does your choice say about you? It says you're bold and daring. And that you're not afraid to mix fashion with a touch of cheeky fun.
If fashion is your passion, and you love to express yourself through your clothing and accessories, now we can add cocktail choice to that mix.
Styling a party theme with a uniquely designed cocktail menu can be a creative and fun way to create a cohesive and memorable event. The team at The Liquid Wanderer can help you plan the right mix and look of your drinks to capture your vision in a glass.
Now you can add cocktail choice to your list of accessories to complement your look@THELIQUIDWANDERER AND KRISTY BELLEY PHOTOGRAPHY BY SARAH SOUTHARD
Your choice of cocktail can reveal a lot about your style and personality, and the Old Fashioned, in particular, has been around for over 100 years. Its simplicity, elegance, and bold flavors make it an iconic drink. Just like the cocktail itself, ordering an Old Fashioned suggests that you have a classic and timeless fashion sense. You might appreciate vintage-inspired pieces, traditional tailoring, and classic silhouettes that never go out of style.
The Old Fashioned cocktail is simple, made with just a few ingredients.
Ingredients
• 1 teaspoon sugar or 2 teaspoons of simple syrup
• 2-3 dashes of bitters
• 1 teaspoon water
• 2.5 ounces of Bourbon
• Orange twist (garnish)
Instructions
1. Add the sugar or simple syrup and bitters to a rocks glass, then add the water, and stir until the sugar is nearly dissolved or simple syrup is blended.
2. Fill the glass with large ice cubes, add premium bourbon, and gently stir to combine.
3. Express the oil of an orange twist while holding it over the glass, then drop it into the glass as a traditional garnish.
Ordering a lavender mocktail can say a few things about your fashion sense and personal style:
Choosing a lavender mocktail indicates that you might be aware of current trends in both food and fashion. Lavender-infused drinks have gained popularity in recent years, and enjoying one suggests that you appreciate staying up-to-date with what's in vogue. Lavender is often associated with softness, delicacy, and a touch of femininity. Your fashion sense might reflect these characteristics, and you may prefer flowy fabrics, and romantic silhouettes in your clothing choices.
Ingredients
• Butterfly pea flower tea
• Lavender flowers - 1/2 Cup
• Sugar - 1 Cup
• Fresh lemon juice
• Water - 1 Cup
Instructions
1. Brew pea flower tea and let cool
2. Boil equal parts sugar and water
3. Add 1/2 cup dry lavender flowers
4. Let cool then strain (this is lavender simple syrup)
5. In a glass add 2 ounces of pea flower tea, 1 ounce of lemon juice and 1/2 ounce of lavender simple syrup
6. Garnish with lemon, edible flower and sage for color and added fragrance

From the fairway to the runway, golf instructor Donna Taylor and her students have golf fashion down to a tee. Taylor owns Golf Party Live, a business dedicated not only to teaching women how to golf but also to making golf fun and approachable. From clinics to parties and retreats, Taylor is helping pave the way for more women in the sport one swing and outfit at a time.
Taylor has been golfing since she was 7-years-old and she played on both high school and college teams. She began teaching juniors golf while she was in college and switched to teaching women after her Dad, former professional
golfer and golf instructor Dan Lippstreu, started getting requests for lady instructors. Under his guidance, she received priceless experience in teaching beginner ladies. Taylor says she originally taught women golf to help her dad and make good money as a college student, but now she’s inspired to teach women because of the impact golf has had on her life.
“Golf has been one of the most influential things in my life,” Taylor says. “It taught me all the life lessons golf offers, introduced me to amazing people including my husband, created business opportunities and has given me incredible life experiences playing golf courses all around the world. I am very passionate about introducing the game of golf to women so they enjoy it as I have.”
Golf is more than a sport, it’s a social activity rich in traditions and a distinctive culture that’s historically been dominated by men. The boys’ club vibes have led to a lack of female instructors, limited outfit choices and rules that extend beyond the game, creating an intimidating environment for women. Times have changed and now, instructors like Taylor are breaking barriers and making golf more accessible and inclusive. Golf fashion has also changed and women are now able to wear fun outfits and express themselves more freely on the course. Taylor says golf fashion has come a long way since she started playing.
“Traditionally, golf clothes for women were boring, baggy and not cute,” Taylor says. “Now I am seeing a lot of options and a lot of activewear types of golf brands.”
Though some may find it trivial, golf fashion has always been an important part of the game. Dress codes at various golf courses can be confusing to newcomers, they’re often left uncertain about the appropriate attire. Taylor discusses dress codes with her students to ensure they’re
wearing clothes that allow them to feel comfortable and confident so they can play and look their best no matter what kind of golf course they’re at.
“Golf clothing is so important in golf because if you feel good you are more likely to play good and if you are not playing well at least you look good,” Taylor says.
Taylor also says brands like Lululemon and Bad Birdie upping the golf fashion game for women is a testament to how much the sport has grown and the movement of women interested in golf. She’s an ambassador for Bad Birdie, a performance golf store located at Kierland Commons in Scottsdale and says she loves its colorful and printed tops. Her favorite golf skirts are from Lululemon and an online clothing store called The Bubble. These brands are her top recommendations to her students for stylish and functional golf apparel. However, she emphasizes that the market offers a wide variety of styles and brands to cater to every individual’s preferences and needs.
“There is something for everybody,” Taylor says. “I like bright flashy colors with busy, fun prints but that’s just me.”
While golf dress codes for women may have appeared restrictive in the past, the abundance of new options in golf clothing is exciting. This wide range of choices enables women to express and explore their personal style both on and off the course. Taylor is an excellent role model for women in golf, not only because of her talent and extensive skills but because of her vibrant and eye-catching golf outfits. By embracing her unique style, she encourages her students to feel at ease expressing their individuality on the course, demonstrating that golf doesn’t always have to be serious, it can be a source of enjoyment and fun as well. Golf Party Live hosts clinics and parties at Dobson Ranch Golf Club in Mesa and Lone Tree Golf Club in Chandler. To view the schedule and sign up visit golfpartylive.com
While golf dress codes for women may have appeared restrictive in the past, the abundance of new options in golf clothing is exciting. This wide range of choices enables women to express and explore their personal style both on and off the course.
With over 75,000 active instagram followers, it is fair to say local salon owner and stylist Jess Hallock loves to talk style and beauty. She spent a little time with Gilbert City Lifestyle to debunk the 5 most asked about Hair myths.
I’m not going to lie, there are so many hair myths out there, it’s hard to know where to begin. I decided the best place to start is with the five that I’m currently hearing most often. These are the ones I’m seeing in my DM’s on a daily basis. I think they deserve a little attention. The internet loves to take parts of the truth and make it the whole truth, especially when it comes to beauty.
So, let’s get to debunking, shall we?
MYTH #1: CAN WEARING YOUR HAIR IN A PONYTAIL CAUSE A RECEDING HAIRLINE?
Well, that’s terrifying now isn’t it. The short answer is NO.
While I understand where this comes from, you would have to be chronically wearing your hair in a tight slicked back ponytail around the clock and even then, it’s a stretch. What can happen, however, is wearing your hair in a ponytail can cause some where your rubber band is pulling. I encourage most of my clients to wear a loose ponytail or braid to avoid too much tension.
MYTH #2: IS AIRDRYING YOUR HAIR BETTER THAN BLOWDRYING?
This may come as a surprise, but actually not necessarily. I like to use the towel analogy here. If you leave a wet towel on the floor overnight, you’ll wake up to a towel that feels a little gross and smells a little funky. It may even be a little damp. The same is true for your scalp! It’s all trapped moisture. I often hear that the heat is a concern, but your blow dryer won’t get above 165 degrees (curling irons can typically reach 400 degrees). You can even let your hair air dry about 70% of the way and then just blowdry the rest. The key is to ensure that you’ve gotten all of the moisture out of your hair.
Jess
I LOVE LOVE that I have the ability to brighten someone’s day and listen to all of their stories, create some amazing friendships, all while customizing their hair and helping THEM feel beautiful!.
If you’re someone who likes to go to bed with your hair wet…please don’t! I promise you won’t regret the few extra minutes it takes to get your hair all the way dry.
MYTH #3: WILL GETTING A TRIM EVERY 6-8 WEEKS MAKE YOUR HAIR GROW FASTER?
As a stylist, I would love for this to be true, but unfortunately, it’s not. Your hair grows from your scalp, so unfortunately the ends have very little to do with how quickly your hair can grow. Now don’t get me wrong, eventually those ends will need to be trimmed. I’d recommend every 10-12 weeks. Keeping your ends clean can help your hair stay long and healthy looking so there are a few benefits!
MYTH #4: WILL BLONDE SHAMPOO MAKE MY HAIR BRIGHTER?
This one makes my toes curl a bit because I hear this SO often. The ONLY thing blonde shampoo does is neutralizes any yellow hues in your hair. That being said, it actually leads to dry, darker and duller hair. I know this is probably going to surprise so many of you, but I promise you that purple (or blue) shampoo is not the answer. In order to get your blonde brighter, I would recommend having your stylist lift it to the proper level, use the correct toner or no toner at all and incorporate clarifying shampoo into your weekly routine at home.
MYTH #5: WILL BIOTIN MAKE MY HAIR GROW?
Okay friends, listen up.
Biotin does not make your hair grow. I repeat, it does NOT work that way.
The companies who have pushed this narrative have made a ton of money convincing people that this is the only way to have long, luscious hair. First of all, the only time biotin can make any kind of impact is if you’re deficient and that’s extremely rare. In fact, taking biotin when you’re not deficient can lead to several unwanted side effects. My best advice for hair growth? Start by ensuring you’re eating a nutritious diet, stay hydrated and get at least 100 grams of protein per day. I know that sounds like a lot, but it can make all the difference!
Okay, I know I hit you with a lot there, but trust me, debunking these hair myths will save you time, money and even a few headaches! I would love to share more so please check out my instagram @jess.hallock or better yet set an appointment to visit the salon. www.jesshallock.com
