The Gilbert pre-teen found TV fame on “The Kids Tonight Show.” In this issue, we catch up with the young star who’s taking the Valley — and New York — by storm. We also highlight ways that

IF WISHES HAD WHEELS CHAPMAN BMW CHANDLER IS NO STRANGER TO HOLIDAY GIVING. Each dealer in the Chapman group is encouraged to give back to his or her local community through the Chapman Cares Initiative. This year, General Manager Shane O’Hanrahan and his team partnered with Altered Tails spay and neutering clinic, St. Mary’s Food Bank, United Food Bank, AZCEND and Toys for Tots; the team also is personally sponsoring two to four families in need this Christmas.

U LT I M AT E V E H I C L E G I F T We thought it would be fun to ask General Manager Shane O’Hanrahan what car he would choose if he was going to give the ultimate vehicle gift. He selected the BMW M5. “It’s the car that checks all the boxes,” he says. “It is the perfect size and very stylish. It has 50/50 weight distribution for optimal handling and an engine designed to perform.”

doing it, so we make it super funny and weird,” he says. “We do monologues and kid jokes, but adults can laugh and watch it, too.” So how does a Gilbert pre-teen land a job on a national TV show? A casting director found Eans on Instagram. “I did the first audition, and I thought I did terrible,” Eans recalls. “But two weeks later, I got a call back, and they said, ‘Next audition is next week.’ After another round of auditions, COVID-19 caused everything to come to a screeching halt for almost a year-and-a-half. Once filming began in New York, Eans was admittedly nervous, but after a few shows, he shook off the jitters, got comfortable and really started having fun with it. “I had been on camera before, but not like this,” he explains. “There was a live audience, and it was amazing. I love the live audience. It’s the best feeling because you give energy back and forth to each other.” He is also proud that after a few days of filming, he mastered the use of a teleprompter. Now on hiatus from filming “The Kids Tonight Show,” Eans looks forward to his regular gig with The Twits: On First Fridays in Phoenix, the band performs on Roosevelt Row and 2nd Street. “I play for a crowd, and I’m so used to that because I’ve been doing it for six years now,” he explains. Although stardom has come calling for Eans, he ultimately feels at home in Gilbert. “I would love to move to New York, but honestly, I’m such a Gilbert kid,” he finishes. “I love Gilbert — it’s my favorite place. Downtown Gilbert is amazing.” As for thoughts of a second season? “I would love that,” the young talent says, “but I think that’s a parent issue to figure out.” Visit reckereans.com to learn more about this rising musical star.

GIVING AWAY AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN LAST YEAR, LIFESTYLE PUBLICATIONS IS GIVING $300,000 TO RECIPIENTS IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON AND BEYOND... AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

ABOUT SIX YEARS AGO ANNA SAROL, THE DAUGHTER OF A SINGLE MOTHER, WAS PARALYZED IN A GYMNASTICS ACCIDENT WHEN SHE WAS A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT UNTIL LAST YEAR SHE DID NOT HAVE A STAIRLIFT IN HER HOME. The stairlift was made possible when Lifestyle Publications gave her family $10,000. “I watched my community come together to help me get this equipment to my house, and words can’t explain how appreciative my

family and I are,” Anna says. The money for Anna’s stairlift was part of a giveaway campaign from the company during the 2020 Christmas season that benefited more than 80 recipients across the country with a final distribution of $250,000 throughout the year. When the company opened nominations, they were flooded with submissions. Community leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you nominated people that were in need of assistance. As the eyes and ears of the community, these readers were able to help identify people who might have

otherwise gone unnoticed or unrecognized. One such nominee was Kathy*, an aunt who is raising her three young relatives. The children came from an abusive situation, and Kathy, a single guardian, works tirelessly to provide for them. Nevertheless, the family was already living in poverty despite her working seven days a week when Kathy lost her job during the pandemic. She resorted to selling tamales to help pay the rent. When a case manager with a Big Brothers Big Sisters foster youth mentoring program heard about Lifestyle’s campaign and call for nominations, she quickly thought of Kathy. “When I shared the news that Kathy was selected and would be receiving $3,000, she cried, screamed, and was in disbelief,” the case manager said. “She immediately wanted to give back to me and the donor by providing endless tamales. This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors.” In yet another case, Emily* who worked as a janitor at a school, was a recipient and was struggling to afford simply buying groceries for her children. Before the ongoing difficulties of the pandemic even started, a tornado destroyed the school she worked at just a couple weeks before the initial shutdown in March 2020 which resulted in a loss of income for her. Emily was incredibly surprised and grateful to receive assistance from the giveaway. *Names changed for privacy

Evolve Counseling & Behavioral Health Services Relationships can be incredibly complex and at times difficult to navigate. The holiday season often leads to an increase in relational strains and difficulties due to the stressors of this time, as well as the felt obligation to engage with individuals who you might attempt to avoid during the rest of the year. While relationships are certainly not black and white, here are some primary things to consider when attempting to decide if a relationship is good for your mental health, as well as when reflecting on some possible areas of improvements: • Safety: Does this relationship feel safe, both physically and emotionally? Do I feel that I can be myself and openly express myself without fear of repercussions?

Relationships can be very tricky all year-round, especially when attempting to decipher the fine line between appropriate compromise versus betraying our own wants, needs, and boundaries. With the holidays upon us, it becomes easy to engage in unhealthy dynamics because we feel we don’t have a choice. Keep in mind, whether during the holiday season or the rest of the year, the quality of your relationships has a profound impact on your mental health.
