Seeing a New Season Ahead
October 2026 PUBLISHER
January Alexander january.alexander@citylifestyle.com CO-PUBLISHER
Scott J Coffin | scott.coffin@citylifestyle.com
There’s something about October that feels like an invitation to settle into the season ahead. The air turns crisp, the leaves begin to change, football fills our weekends and our kitchens start smelling like the recipes we’ve been waiting all year to make. It’s a season of gathering, slowing down and maybe even hitting a little reset as we set ourselves to fall. Our annual Food & Drink Issue feels like the perfect way to welcome this new season because food has always been about so much more than what’s on the plate. It’s about connection. It’s the people gathered around the table, the recipes passed down through generations, the local restaurant where they know your order and the businesses and makers who pour their hearts into feeding our community. As a Gallatin native, I love watching our hometown move through new seasons, too. Gallatin continues to grow and welcome new faces and new places, while still holding onto the traditions, familiar favorites and sense of community that make it feel like home. And maybe that’s the beauty of a new season. It reminds us that change can be good, traditions are worth holding onto and there’s always something ahead to look forward to. So as we turn the page into fall, I hope you’ll do a little more gathering. Try a new local spot. Make an old family recipe. Invite friends over. Sit around the table a little longer. And take time to enjoy this season before the busy holidays arrive. Here’s to new seasons, familiar flavors, full tables and grateful hearts. Happy Fall, Gallatin!

SOUTHERN Hospitality IN A Bottle How Jackson Morgan Southern Cream Captures the Warmth and Heart of Tennessee ARTICLE BY MADISON AICHELE PHOTOGRAPHY BY JULIE HALL PHOTOGRAPHY
Family is at the heart of Jackson Morgan Southern Cream, from the name to the team to the history that inspired its founding. Morgan Wetherington Weinstock, co-founder and marketing leader of the liqueur brand, shares, “Like a lot of Southern families, ours is full of characters with wild stories. One of my favorites is my great-grandfather, who ran a moonshine operation in the 1920s before leaving that life behind to become a preacher. Talk about a plot twist!” In 2013, that history came full circle with the founding of Jackson Morgan Southern Cream, a name drawn from Morgan alongside her brother, Jackson Wetherington. The company quickly made an impact in the alcohol business with its unique and creamy liqueur flavors. Morgan says, “We were probably a little naive about how the liquor business really worked, but we were willing to show up, work hard, and just be ourselves. We are not like most people in the traditional liquor business, and it turns out those fresh ideas are exactly what set us apart.” Southern hospitality is woven into the company’s fabric and into every bottle. For Morgan, she recalls the family home becoming a hosting hotspot for everything growing up. It was a place where anyone was welcome, and memories were made. That is the feeling the family-owned and operated Jackson Morgan Southern Cream has continued to capture with flavors that fit any occasion. Morgan says, “We love carrying that spirit over to our brand, infusing Southern hospitality into everything we do, from the way we treat our vendors, our content on social media, or how our events are run.”

For Morgan, seeing the liqueurs mark special moments brings the mission to life. “Whether it is Christmas morning with a boozy peppermint mocha hot chocolate or a toast at someone’s wedding, it is an honor to be a small part of those huge life memories.” The Jackson Morgan team is as intentional about its Southern hospitality as it is about its formulations. The standout creamy liqueur flavors like Salted Caramel and Lemon Icebox are paired with genuine Tennessee whiskey. Morgan says, “It is where we were born and raised, and where we are choosing to raise our own families now. Tennessee is much more than a location for us. The people, the lifestyle, the pace of life; it is all part of who we are, and we wanted that woven into every bottle.” Through years of growth, Jackson Morgan has preserved the heart of what it set out to be. Family plays an integral part in running the company. Family friends have joined the mission as the company expanded. New team members have become like family. Morgan admires their hard work and talent, saying, “I am incredibly proud of our team. We are the underdogs in a lot of ways, and it has been very rewarding watching us build this brand from the ground up.” While the company has grown since its founding in 2013, it plans to keep expanding and bring Southern hospitality to more people. Jackson Morgan continues to launch new cream liqueurs, like Grasshopper Pie, a mint-chocolate flavor, in addition to serving fan favorites like Spiced Pumpkin Roll and Brown Sugar and Cinnamon. The company currently offers nine flavors. Morgan says, “Looking ahead, our vision is nationwide distribution and turning Jackson Morgan into a household name along the way.” Explore recipes and more at SipJacksonMorgan.com (must be 21 or older).
Tipsy Apple Looking for an autumnal recipe to enjoy around the bonfire? Jackson Morgan Southern Cream recommends pairing its Salted Caramel flavor with apple whiskey to create the ultimate fall drink. The best part? It is a simple recipe that delivers a warm, rich taste for crisp nights. Try your hand at the Tipsy Apple this holiday season.
Ingredients • 2 parts Jackson Morgan Salted Caramel • 1 part apple whiskey
Directions Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker and pour over ice.
Optional Embellishments • Dip the glass rim in caramel drizzle before pouring. • Garnish with four thin apple slices. • Finish with a light caramel drizzle. Happy sipping!

MORTGAGES Broadway Mortgage Group Serves Up Top-Notch Client Experiences and Local Hospitality
Brianna Harris Kimbrough took an unconventional path into the mortgage industry. After working in a support role with a variety of brokers to improve their marketing, sales and technology, Kimbrough says, “Eventually, I had this realization: I had spent years helping other people build and grow their businesses. It was my turn.” Kimbrough founded Broadway Mortgage Group, putting everything she had learned into a purpose-driven business that prioritized relationships over transactions, client education and a work environment where everyone felt valued. She explains, “Starting Broadway Mortgage Group was a leap, but it never felt like I was starting from scratch. Everything I had done up until that point had prepared me for it. Broadway was my opportunity to take everything I had learned from helping other businesses grow and finally build the mortgage company I believed could exist.” The Broadway Mortgage Group has grown to include team members Kenzie Hammock, Kaitlyn West, Kaleb Hammock, Donna Kelly, Dennis Tulsa and the members of Abbott Mortgage Group: Jaime and Jacyn Abbott and Virginia Snyder. Of the team, Kimbrough shares that they each bring unique strengths to the business while maintaining the same care for clients. She says, “What I love to my core are the people inside our office and the people we get to work alongside every day, from our clients to our real estate partners and everyone in between. Our team has truly become a family. Not a day goes by that I’m
16

not overwhelmed with appreciation for the way they represent something I have poured my blood, sweat and tears into building. Every single one of them represents Broadway beautifully, but even more importantly, they genuinely care about one another and the people we serve.” When it comes to education, Broadway Mortgage Group aims to walk clients through every step of the process with intention. The goal? To take the overwhelm out of homebuying by making sure every client understands what they’re signing while building the financial and credit literacy to make confident decisions. Kimbrough explains, “Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions most people will ever make, yet so many buyers go through the process without truly understanding what is happening. That has never sat well with me. “Education creates confidence. When people understand the process, so much of the fear and uncertainty disappears.” Another priority for Broadway is celebration. Kimbrough describes how the team comes to every closing with champagne, confetti poppers, snacks, gifts and more to mark the client’s milestone with trademark positive energy. “From start to finish, I want our buyers to feel celebrated. Buying a home is such a huge life experience, but I think sometimes our industry gets so focused on the transaction that we forget to make the experience itself memorable,” says Kimbrough. There is also a personal mission driving Kimbrough as a founder and mortgage broker. CONTINUED >

You can build a successful company and still care deeply about people. In She shares, “My mom had me when she was 16, and growing up, we never really had a home that was ours. Having a home of my own was something I wished for for a very long time. I think that experience is part of what drives me so deeply today. Now I get to fight for other people to have that feeling of walking through a door and knowing, this is ours.” With an office space in the heart of downtown Gallatin, the Broadway team brings their hearts for relationships to the local community. Lime Deli is a staple for the team when they grab a sandwich. For coffee, they visit Black Elm and Honey Rock Books and Cafe. They also enjoy The Paper Mill. The Broadway office has also become the center of one of Square Fest’s highlights. With a business right on the Square, the team wanted to become involved. Kimbrough recalls walking the aisles of Walmart and reflecting on her experience taking her husband to an all-day shopping event. That is when the idea of Husband Daycare was born. Now, Broadway is the place where husbands can hang out in the AC, watch the game and enjoy free beer while the wives shop. “To me, that’s what being part of a community should look like. It doesn’t always need to be about selling something. Sometimes it’s simply creating a place where people want to be, making them laugh and leaving a little bit of a mark on their day.” Looking ahead, Kimbrough describes wanting to grow Broadway without losing the roots of why she started it: caring for people. “You can build a successful company and still care deeply about people. In fact, I think caring about people is how you build something that lasts. At the end of the day, Broadway Mortgage Group isn’t really about mortgages. Mortgages are simply the vehicle that allows us to help people build a life they love.” BroadwayMortgageGroup.com

Bright
Holiday Smiles With the holidays around the corner, the husband-and-wife duo at Shine Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics has tips to keep young smiles healthy and shining bright during a sweets-packed season. Prepare ahead of time. Lauren Carlson, DMD, MSD, Shine’s pediatric dentist, says, “One of the best things parents can do is make sure their kids are going into Halloween with good brushing and flossing habits already established.” Good habits will help keep cavities away and prevent dental problems during a sugar-heavy season.
Not all candy is equal. Dr. Lauren and Michael Seelig, DMD, MS, Shine’s orthodontist, recommend chocolate over sticky, chewy or hard candies, which can stay on teeth longer and cause issues with braces. Dr. Mike says, “From an orthodontic perspective, Halloween treats that tend to be more tooth friendly, also tend to be most braces/Invisalign friendly. The hard/crunchy/ chewy/gummy candies that Dr. Lauren described as being the least tooth health friendly are also the least orthodontic friendly as their textures very often lead to appliance breakage or detachment.” Pace it out. A few pieces of candy after a meal is easier on teeth and enamel than snacking throughout the day. Dr. Lauren says, “From a dental standpoint, we’re much more concerned about the frequency of sugar exposure than simply the total amount of sugar someone eats … It’s much better to enjoy a few pieces of candy together, ideally after a meal.” Dr. Mike adds, “In other words, we’re not trying to take the fun out of Halloween—we’re just trying to avoid having the candy component of the holiday become an all-day event!” Caring for teeth after candy. When it comes to protecting teeth after treats, Dr. Lauren says water is a great defense. “Having kids drink water after eating candy helps rinse away some of the sugar and food particles and helps their saliva get back to work.” A quick rinse on the go can help if brushing is not an option. Prioritize routine checkups. Routine appointments can help prevent or catch issues early and reinforce good habits during the holidays. Fall is the perfect time to reestablish those routines for shining smiles. Shine Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics ShinePDO.com | 629.400.668

ANNUAL WOMEN CONNECT LIVE CONFERENCE RETURNS WITH S T R AT E G Y A N D C O M M U N I T Y
Chari Hawkins, USA Gold Medalist
Women Connect has brought business owners together for over six years. Lucy Miller, founder and CEO, recognized the value of connection and built a company that equips and inspires through local chapter meetings, workshops and more. In 2022, Women Connect brought those powerful networking opportunities and inspirational resources to the big stage and created a transformative annual tradition: Women Connect LIVE. Miller says, “At its core, Women Connect LIVE is one day where women in business stop doing everything alone.” This year, the event is at The Factory at Franklin, and the theme is “extraordinary.” “Here’s what I believe: every woman in that room is already extraordinary … So this theme isn’t about becoming something you’re not. It’s about recognizing what’s already there and leaning further into it with the tools, the community, and the permission to actually own it, ” explains Miller. On October 23, women will gather and hear from powerful speakers like five-time Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin
Johnson, Hannah Betts, Mignon Francois and more. The sessions and panels will blend honest conversations and high-powered strategy — so every woman walks away encouraged and equipped. The impact of Women Connect LIVE extends beyond event day. Local chapters meet monthly throughout the greater Nashville area and beyond, including in Sumner County and Mt. Juliet, allowing connections to deepen before and after the conference. Miller says, “What I’ve watched, year after year, is connection that goes past a handshake and a business card. Real relationships. Referrals. Friendships that outlast the conference by years. That’s the whole reason Women Connect exists — and every time I watch it happen again in that room, it confirms we’re doing exactly what we set out to do.” Tickets are available at WeAreWomenConnect.com. For those who want to make the most of conference day, limited spaces are available for add-on VIP experiences on October 22, including a done-for-you content day and AI masterclass. Mark your calendars for a day of life-changing connection.

Gather' Round Gallatin Celebrating Local Flavors and Favorite Tables That Bring Gallatin Together ARTICLE BY JANUARY ALEXANDER There’s something special about gathering around a table, especially when that table is right here in Gallatin. Our growing food scene is filled with local flavor, familiar faces and plenty of reasons to pull up a chair and stay awhile.
The Chocolate Covered Strawberry: A longtime Gallatin favorite, The Chocolate Covered Strawberry is one of those places made for lingering over lunch with your favorite people. We love the Chopped & Topped Salad, loaded with chicken salad, strawberries and cinnamon-roasted almonds, or the classic chicken salad on a flaky croissant. Save room for carrot cake, sip on their refreshing fruit tea and don’t forget the best little finishing touch — a complimentary chocolate-covered strawberry with every plate. It’s sweet, charming and quintessentially Gallatin.
The Paper Mill: A fresh addition to the Gallatin Square, The Paper Mill brings its made-from-scratch comfort food and brunch favorites to downtown. We suggest starting with the Biscuit & Jam Board before diving into the Fried Chicken & Waffles with black pepper syrup or the crave-worthy Hot Piggy Benedict. And don’t skip the Parmesan Herb Fries! Come hungry — this newcomer is worth gathering around.
26

For our October Food & Drink Issue, we’re celebrating four local favorites that each bring something unique to the table. From the first sip to the last bite, these spots remind us that dining out is about more than what’s on the menu. It’s about the people behind the plates, the atmosphere that welcomes you in and the memories made over meals shared with family and friends. Whether you’re looking for the perfect date-night destination, meeting friends for a casual bite, enjoying a leisurely lunch or simply craving something delicious, Gallatin offers
plenty to savor. These four stops are just a taste of what makes our local dining community so special. So, consider this your invitation to try somewhere new, revisit an old favorite and, most importantly, support the local restaurants that help give our city its flavor. This fall, gather your people, come hungry and make a little room at the table. After all, some of the best moments in Gallatin begin with, “Where should we eat?”
Prince Street Pizza & Pub: For a laid-back local favorite with plenty of personality, Prince Street Pizza & Pub always delivers. Creative pies are the star, and The Music City Miracle — Nashville hot chicken, pickles and a ranch swirl — is a must-try. We also love the Pretty Fly for a White Pie, with Alfredo, chicken, bacon, tomato and garlic. Start with an order of their loaded Wachos for the table, then settle in and enjoy the funky atmosphere and impressive Tennessee craft beer selection. It’s a Gallatin staple — fun, casual and delicious.
Casa Roja Mexican Grill: Taco Tuesday just got a little more colorful at Casa Roja Mexican Grill in Downtown Gallatin. Gather your crew and start with their margarita flight — a fun way to sip and sample before diving into tacos. Tuesday’s specials make it the perfect excuse for a midweek meet-up, with both classic and authentic-style tacos on the lineup. Add chips, fresh salsa and queso for the table, and you have our kind of Tuesday: tacos, margaritas and good company in the heart of Gallatin.

Creating Moments of Joy Perfect Porch TN Designs Custom Seasonal Décor and Holiday Styling for Every Home Megan Menke and Chaney Keefer
28
S EASON A L SE T U P S | HOME + D E SIGN
Some of life’s greatest decorative highlights happen in the fall and winter. From mums exploding with color to pumpkins to the Christmas trees glittering with lights, displays can take your breath away. For Perfect Porch TN, curating moments of seasonal delight is its specialty. Megan Menke, owner and designer, alongside Chaney Keefer, co-designer, began Perfect Porch two years ago. Design work started out small, with the pair designing seasonal mailboxes, outdoor planters and decorating Christmas trees. Soon, they both recognized their love for seasonal styling and the demand for services like holiday porch design. Two years later, Perfect Porch has grown beyond a hobby and now offers four fall packages to create seasonal setups. The heart of Perfect Porch is to create joy. Customers have come to Megan and Chaney experiencing loss and wanting their homes to feel brighter around the holidays. Some parents have had kids begging for a decorated porch. However the
conversation starts, the duo aims to create a seasonal setup that brings a smile to people’s faces. Megan and Chaney share, “Watching Perfect Porch grow has been one of the sweetest and most unexpected blessings for both of us. We never take the opportunity to decorate someone’s home lightly. Every home and every client is different, and we truly believe the details matter. HUSHPIGGIES SPICY MEAT CANDY CHEX MIX • Makes: About 12–14 cups • Oven: 250°F • Cook time: About 1 hour
The Mix
CRUNCH WITH A PUNCH
Local Favorite Hushpiggies Delivers a Flavor-Packed Twist on Game-Day Snacking
Founded by Lebanon local Shawn Smith, Hushpiggies is known for its dry rubs, spices and BBQ sauces. The company quickly grew from its mason jar and roadside beginnings in 2008, becoming one of Lebanon’s staple flavors today. Hushpiggies focuses on “quality over quantity,” and the results are evident in small-batch flavorful mixtures that elevate any recipe — even one as simple as Chex mix. Smith, who also owns The Jewelers, brings the heat in this recipe for a twist on a classic game day snack. The Spicy Meat Candy Chex Mix incorporates unmistakable Hushpiggies flair with Smitty’s Small Batch BBQ Sauce and the fan-favorite Spicy Meat Candy seasoning. Combined with simple ingredients, this recipe produces crunch with a punch. It is perfect for football season when friends gather around the TV or for hosting game night. The Hushpiggies elements can be found at select local Lebanon retailers as well as online at Meat-Candy. com. Gather your ingredients for a recipe you will return to again and again, and experience why locals love the Hushpiggies difference

• • • • • • •
4 cups Corn Chex 4 cups Rice Chex 2 cups mini pretzels 1 1/2 cups Cheez-Its 1/2 cup almonds 1/2 cup cashews 1/2 cup peanuts
Smitty’s Seasoning Sauce • • • • •
8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter 1/3 cup Smitty’s Small Batch BBQ Sauce 3 1/2 tablespoons Spicy Meat Candy 1/2 tablespoon brown sugar Optional: 1/2–1 teaspoon cayenne for serious heat
Make It 1. Heat the oven to 250°F. 2. Combine all the Chex, pretzels, Cheez-Its and nuts in a very large roasting pan. 3. Melt the butter over low heat. Whisk in Smitty’s Small Batch and brown sugar. Let it simmer gently for about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and whisk in 3 tablespoons Spicy Meat Candy. (Set 1/2 tablespoon to the side) 4. Slowly drizzle the warm mixture over the Chex mixture while tossing. Don’t dump it all in one spot — you want a thin coating on everything. 5. Spread it out in the roasting pan and bake for 1 hour, stirring thoroughly every 15 minutes. 6. To make it unmistakably Hushpiggies, Smith recommends: At the 45-minute mark, sprinkle the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of Spicy Meat Candy over everything, toss, then bake for the final 15 minutes. 7. Spread it on parchment or sheet pans and let it cool completely. It gets substantially crunchier as it cools.
