For Gina Vanderveldt, there’s no greater feeling than helping a woman feel beautiful in her own skin. Gina founded VITA Aesthetics, a medical aesthetics spa on a mission to help women build confidence and feel empowered. “We just really enjoy making people feel good about themselves,” Gina says.

The name VITA, which means “life” in Italian, is a tribute to Gina’s mother who passed away after a battle with cancer. She always encouraged Gina to follow her own dreams. Gina says her mother struggled with self-confidence, and she wants to help other women love who they are, inside and out. “I want people to shine, and when people feel good and feel like they look good then they do really great things,” Gina says.

Before starting VITA Aesthetics, Gina spent fifteen years working as a nurse. After spending countless hours in the emergency room and seeing people on the worst days of their lives, she felt burnt out and in need of a career change. She is dual-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. “Having that background allowed me to get really great experience with anatomy, physiology and just everything about the body,” Gina says. “It’s very important to know the anatomy but also how to manage any complications should they arise.”

Gina says she has two other nurse practitioners on her staff at VITA who are always working to further their knowledge by going to conferences or taking webinars. She wants clients to know they are in good hands when they come to VITA. “We put a big focus on consultations so clients are able to get to know the staff and feel comfortable,” Gina says.

While she may not have grown up in the Nashville area, Gina says it has become home. She was born and raised in Philadelphia and moved to the area in 2008. While she originally assumed it would be temporary, Gallatin quickly became a place she and her husband knew they wanted to stay. “I started to get into golf, and we made a lot of friends, and then it really felt like home,” Gina says. “I stopped telling people that I was from Philly and lived in Nashville, and now I’m just like ‘yeah, we’re from Nashville.’” She says there’s something special about our area and the people who live here. “It’s such a great community! Everybody helps each other and is super friendly, and it wasn’t like that in Philly where everybody kept to themselves,” Gina says.

Gina and her husband Garig, who is also VITA’s Medical Director, stay busy with their three kids, whether it be cheering them on at a sporting event or spending time as a family. VITA offers a variety of services, such as skin care treatments, hormone replacement therapy and body contouring. Whatever service women may be interested in getting, Gina wants them  to view it as self-care. “Selfcare is okay, and it doesn’t have to look like you’ve had anything done,” Gina says. “The goal is to age gracefully and not to change the way you look.”

During a time when more and more medical spas are seeing clients from a younger generation, Gina says it’s important to keep in mind that she and her staff are committed to only providing services they feel are necessary. “We will actually talk you out of something if we don’t think you need it,” Gina says. “With  services like filler or Botox, I don’t think more is better; I think less is better and we can always add.”

After working with a client, Gina says it always warms her heart to hear them say they have a new sense of confidence or just simply feel better. “I’ve had people come in tears and then leave in happy tears,” Gina says. “It really touches your heart and is the ultimate high.”

Gina says the feeling of joy she gets while helping women achieve their goals is amplified while thinking about how happy it would make her mother. “She loved to make people happy and cared more about other people than she did herself, so I really think she would love it,” Gina says.

Ashlee Nash Owner, Binkley Nash Furniture & Design

Gallatin native, Ashlee Dozier Nash, was hand-selected nearly a decade ago at the young age of 25 to become the new owner of Binkley Nash Furniture & Design, originally founded by Mike Binkley in downtown Gallatin and a staple in our area for decades. Decorating and interior design have long been passions of Ashlee’s and after graduating from Gallatin High School, she chose to attend design school at MTSU in Murfreesboro. In 2015, she seized the opportunity to take the helm of Gallatin’s premier furniture store, infusing it with fresh energy and familial warmth.

Ashlee and her husband Randy were both raised in Sumner County and were married in 2014, and soon after they purchased the furniture store. Ashlee and Randy also own another local business, Sumner Funeral & Cremation. Together, they embody local pride and community spirit, weaving personal connections with clients who span generations. It’s truly a family affair as even Ashlee’s mother and father have roles within the store. Ashlee’s dedication extends beyond the showroom, offering a range of interior design services that leave lasting impressions throughout the region.

Executive Director, Sumner County CASA

Sonya Manfred, a fourth-generation Gallatin native, dedicates her daily mission to nurturing our community’s most vulnerable. With over two decades of experience in the nonprofit sector, Sonya’s tenure as Executive Director at Sumner County CASA reflects her service to our community. Sonya’s journey to leadership was marked by a determined heart for children’s welfare. From her early days as a Volunteer Coordinator, to studying education and psychology as an undergraduate at the University of Tennessee at Martin, to completing an Executive Program in Children’s Law and Policy at Loyola University Chicago, her mission remains clear: advocating for the welfare of children in need.

Reflecting on the challenges facing Sumner County, Sonya highlights food instability, housing shortages and the scarcity of mental health providers as critical issues. Yet, her optimism shines through collaboration. Uniting with organizations like United Way of Sumner County and Unlimited Potential, Sonya leads collective efforts to overcome these adversities.

Personally and professionally, Sonya finds her greatest joy in witnessing transformations — from family reunifications to adoption triumphs. Birch CEO, United Way Sumner County

Erin Birch’s journey to becoming the Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Sumner County has been guided by a commitment to community and an unwavering dedication to making positive change. With a Bachelor’s degree in communications from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Erin ventured to Nashville, where her career in nonprofit work began.

Having held various fundraising and management positions, Erin’s path led her to the top of United Way of Sumner County’s organization over six years ago. In this role, she spearheads efforts to support and address the needs of the community, tackling challenges such as financial strain on ALICE households (an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) and housing affordability.

What drives Erin’s passion is the tangible impact her work has on local families. Through collaborative partnerships and volunteer efforts, she sees firsthand the transformation of lives and communities. Personally, Erin finds fulfillment in her role as a Stephen Minister, providing emotional and spiritual support to those facing challenges.

Erin’s leadership extends beyond her professional accomplishments. As a board member for the Gallatin Chamber, she recognizes the importance of connecting businesses with the community for lasting success. Leaving your mark in a world that strongly tries to create your path for you can be a challenging endeavor. From setbacks to struggles, achieving your personal and professional goals is never an easy task. For country music group Chapel Hart, their inspiring and resilient story is nothing short of triumph. Devynn Hart, Danica Hart and Trea Swindle, sisters and cousins, passionately express their journey and pour out their soul through their music.

Chapel Hart’s love for their community and fans shines bright, from their overflowing appreciation for small towns to their encouragement to others who want to pursue a dream that feels impossible. The heart of this group consists of passion, hope and tenacity. Continuing in the same way, Chapel Hart graciously sat down with Gallatin Lifestyle to share about their professional and personal accomplishments, pursuits and goals:

GL: Where does your passion for music come from?

Danica: Our passion for music definitely comes from our family! Our grandparents had 17 children and 108 grandchildren; they were pillars of the community. Absolutely everything was surrounded by music: birthdays, church, graduations, marriages, divorces, etc. Also, as a kid, music was the way that I coped in a world where I never really felt like I fit in. Music just “GOT” me.

GL: Has creating country music always been your goal? Did you have interests in other genres before country music?

Danica: We grew up on Gospel music. We have an original song called  “If You Ain’t Wearin’ Boots” that makes references to going to church seven days a week, so Gospel is where it all began for us. However, I always had an interest in classic rock and country music. They were the two genres that were closest to my heart and made me feel alive. But I think as a 90s baby we all have to admit that Pop music was a huge influence on our musical upbringing!

GL: What’s the story of how the three of you decided to start a band together?

Danica: Well, it all started when I lost my job in 2014 and then I moved to New Orleans to sing with Trea. In 2018 Dev lost her job as well, and she started singing with both of us as a 3rd harmony. I always say we were a family of job losers, but it worked out for us.

GL: What inspires you to share your talent with local communities like Gallatin?

Danica: When we were growing up, we used to always say, “Man there’s nothing to

do around here," so I particularly love getting to go to small communities and small towns to perform. Also, I’m a product of a small town and I think it’s amazing for kids to see that you can come from a small town/community and become anything you want, as long as you work hard and you dedicate yourself to it!

GL: What drives your love for the communities you visit?

Devynn: I truly believe it is always about the people. When you have a community of like-minded and sound individuals, it makes it hard not to fall in love with that place in some kind of way.

GL: What has been your favorite part about being on tour?

Trea: I think we can all agree that being able to meet our fans is one of the greatest joys of being on the road. It can be just the boost we need to push through. It’s also fun being able to put faces to the names of people who always show up and support us online. When we finally do meet, it’s as if we’ve known each other for years.

GL: What is your favorite performance in your career so far?

Trea: The performance that will forever leave a mark on me was the first time we played in Liberty Hill, SC, at the Beaver’s Den. The love and positivity across the field was almost tangible! To top it all off, when we did our salute to the troops section of the show, it turned into something that seemed like a scene from a movie. We usually sing our original song “American Pride” followed by some of our favorite

patriotic tunes—and we just so happened to be singing one of my absolute favorites, “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.” Right at the climax of the song, a boat full of Vikings approached and fired off a canon, then they stormed the field with an American flag at full extension blowing majestically in the breeze. It still gives me chills thinking back on it now.

GL: Do you have any goals, as a band, that you are currently working towards?

Devynn: As independent artists, our goal is to always find new ways to keep us growing and evolving. As long as we are doing this on our own, we know and understand that putting in the work is crucial to the success of our careers.

BREAKING BREAD

Making homemade bread is coming back, and while the convenience of buying a pre-made loaf is readily available, there is nothing like the taste of a warm, homemade loaf right out of the oven. This easy-to-follow recipe is exploding with flavor and is simple to make.

FOCACCIA

This recipe is quick and easy to make with just a few simple steps. It tastes great on its own, but dipping it in olive oil infused with fresh herbs adds an extra level of flavor.

INGREDIENTS:

• 1 ¾ cups warm water

• 2 ½ teaspoons sugar

• 1 package active dry yeast

• 4 cups flour

• 2 teaspoons salt

• 4 tablespoons olive oil

• Optional:

• Fresh rosemary

• Coarse sea salt

• Fresh pressed garlic

INSTRUCTIONS:

Use a stand mixer with a fitted dough hook, and stir together the water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and stir again. Set mixture aside for 5 minutes. Mixture should be foamy. Next, add the flour and salt and mix on low until a shaggy dough forms. Increase speed and mix for an additional 4-5 minutes. Brush a large bowl with olive oil. Transfer the dough to the bowl and cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp towel. Set aside for about 1 to 1 ½ hours until the dough has doubled in size. Brush a 9x13-inch baking dish with 2 tablespoons of oil. Uncover the dough and rub hands with olive oil. Slide your hands under the dough and fold it onto itself. Continue to work your way around the edge of the bowl, folding the dough onto itself until there is a ball that you can lift from the bowl. Place the dough in the prepared pan and press the dough to the edges. Cover the pan with plastic wrap or a damp towel and set aside to rise for about 45 minutes until the dough has doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 425°F. Drizzle the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil over the dough. Rub your hands with olive oil and use your fingers to make indentions on the surface of the dough. Sprinkle it with salt and rosemary and any desired toppings. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.
