Long-time Sumner County residents can remember the days when dining options were limited to eating at local fast food or “meat and three” establishments. Fortunately, those days are gone.
In recent years, Sumner County has experienced phenomenal growth across the area. Accompanying this growth has been a desire for more diverse eateries that appeal to different culinary tastes.
This growing call for more dining options has been heard and heeded.
Across the county, restaurateurs have opened many new eateries offering a variety of dining styles and cuisines. One of the newest and most unique establishments is J Street Grill & Bar.
Owned and operated by Sung Rose, J Street offers tantalizing dining built around the savory taste of authentic Korean cuisine. J Street features an upscale décor in which diners can enjoy delicious entrees and sides prepared in traditional Korean street style.
“We offer a wide range of fresh, high-quality meats and vegetables that our guests can grill at their own table,” says Sung. “With our unlimited dining experience, our customers can try as many dishes as they want, all while enjoying a fun and interactive outing.”
J Street’s menu offers a variety of traditional Korean meat, side dish and vegetable options, including beef brisket, spicy pork belly, chicken bulgogi, kimchi, bibimbap and stir-fried zucchini. All of these selections are available for one price, which varies by age and dining hours. Additional selections are available for an extra charge, including cheesecake, shrimp pancakes and special J Street wings.
Along with its unlimited options, J Street offers house prepared items on its bar and lunch menus. The restaurant also has a special to-go menu that includes single plate servings of popular items, as well as traditional Korean Bento boxes. All menus include vegan and vegetarian options.
To enhance the self-grilling experience, dine-in guests have several entertainment options, including a theater-sized big screen television that is perfect for catching all of the action in big games and special events. Live music is also available on selected dates each month.
Since opening last March, J Street has been warmly received.
“Every day, we have attracted more and more customers, many of whom have become both regulars and friends,” says Sung.
For folks looking for a change in taste, be sure to check out J Street Grill & Bar, where dining is not just a meal - it is an experience.

Your home is more than just a structure—it serves as your sanctuary and a fortress against the elements. Nestled within this haven lies your roof, meticulously shielding your loved ones and belongings from nature's wrath. But why exactly is investing in your roof such a crucial endeavor? Matthew Horne, the visionary and founder behind Black Diamond Roofing Solutions, offers insights into this fundamental aspect of home maintenance that is often overlooked.
BY NICOLE BELL"Your roof acts as your primary defense system," says Matthew. "It shields your dwelling from water damage, extreme weather conditions, and the unpredictability of Mother Nature, including the ferocity of tornadoes and wind storms."
Yet, beyond its protective function, a well-maintained roof also significantly bolsters your property's value, thereby contributing to its long-term durability. But how does one discern when it's time to allocate resources toward roof repairs or even a full replacement? Indications like leaks, absent shingles or the aftermath of hail damage should serve as clear signals to engage a seasoned professional.
"Investing in your roof represents a proactive stance," Matthew emphasizes. "Regular upkeep and timely interventions can yield substantial savings over time by preempting potentially exorbitant damages and conserving your property's market worth."
Residing in Middle Tennessee comes with the challenge of navigating unpredictable weather patterns and temperatures can fluctuate drastically within a matter of days. The humorous acknowledgment of this phenomenon, often described as experiencing all four seasons in a single week, reflects the region's climate eccentricities. Throughout scorching summers and chilly winters alike, roofs
"We aspire to be an integral facet of the community fabric."
serve as steadfast guardians, enduring relentless exposure to the elements. The call for proactive roof maintenance echoes loudly, especially given the frequency of storms that sweep through our area. Undoubtedly, roofs stand as indispensable shields, safeguarding homes against the whims of nature.
To prevent common roofing dilemmas, homeowners can undertake proactive initiatives, such as scheduling annual inspections and promptly addressing any emerging issues. The evolution of roofing materials and technology has also ushered in plenty of options for homeowners. For instance, architectural shingles afford heightened wind resistance, while judicious ventilation promotes structural longevity. Components
like ridge vents and ice and water shields play pivotal roles in repelling moisture and staving off the effects of rain, snow and ice.
Investing in your roof is more than just a requirement when it’s time—it embodies a commitment to enhancing your property's intrinsic value, edifying your family’s safety, and increasing your resale potential when you sell your home.
"A meticulously maintained roof mitigates insurance liabilities and instills a sense of assurance in prospective buyers," Matthew asserts. “Your roof epitomizes the crowning glory of your abode.”
Matthew's rise within the Middle Tennessee roofing space is built upon his unwavering dedication to excellence and community upliftment.
"I commenced my journey as a humble sales representative and steadily ascended the ranks," he recalls.
Then, in 2021 Matthew laid the cornerstone of Black Diamond Roofing Solutions, a locally owned and operated business in Gallatin anchored in integrity, craftsmanship and community engagement.
"We aspire to transcend the conventional confines of a roofing company," Matthew states. "We strive to be an integral facet of the community fabric."
From sponsoring grassroots sports teams to extending complimentary inspections, Black Diamond exemplifies a fervent commitment to serving the Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky regions. Their unwavering dedication mirrors the overarching ethos of community investment, one roof at a time.
Matthew's sentiments underscore the symbiotic relationship between roofing and community outreach. Ultimately, the foundation of a resilient community commences with secure homes, and Black Diamond Roofing Solutions ardently endeavors to uphold this each and every day.

Investing in indoor plants can not only spruce up your living space, but also bring numerous health and well-being benefits
Bringing the outdoors in with the use of house plants is a great way to add color and dimension to your space. We sat down with Jesse Nelson at Family Tree Nursery, based in Kansas, and discussed the benefits of incorporating plant life into your home. “There are plenty of studies on the health benefits of plants, and the evidence suggests that being around plants and caring for plant life increases overall wellness,” explains Nelson. “Anytime you bring a plant into a home or work environment, it’s going to make you feel better. It is going to beautify the space in a way that art cannot, and they also have the added benefit of purifying the air.” There are a wide variety of indoor plants that work for any space and light situation that you may have. Regardless if you have a green thumb or a black thumb, there are plant varieties that fit your lifestyle. Here are a few of our favorite indoor plants to incorporate into your home.
Anthurium has gorgeous, colorful flowers and is the easiest indoor flowering plant to care for. It comes in a variety of colors including red, white, orange and purple. Anthurium likes to be dry, so let it go bone dry before watering. Fertilize every so often, especially when blooming. These plants do not like direct sunlight and can be repotted every three to five years.
This cascading plant is gaining popularity due to its succulent-like leaves and also because it is fairly easy to care for. The Hope Peperomia likes medium to bright direct sunlight. It does well as a tabletop plant or a hanging plant. Watering is only needed one time a month regardless of plant size.
“Anytime you bring a plant into a home or work environment, it’s going to make you feel better. It is going to beautify the space in a way that art cannot, and they also have the added benefit of purifying the air.”
This is a slow-growing variety that is architectural and compact. This plant is a great statement piece and looks great in an entryway or by a chair. There are a lot of varieties and colors of the Dracaena. They are very resilient in low light and are great for an office space with little or no light. They like to stay on the dry side, so they like to be watered when they are about ½ to ¾ of the way dry. When watering, give it a good soak. Pro tip: A moisture meter can be purchased and used to determine how dry your plant is to help determine when it is time to water again.
ANTHURIUM: DRACAENA JANET-CRAIG COMPACTA: HOPE PEPEROMIA:Our greatest commodity is time and some of the most rewarding investments we can make are when we intentionally invest in those services that return our time back to us. The average household spends over four hours a week doing laundry–more than 12 hours a month that could be dedicated to other areas. Jessica Willmore, owner of The Laundry Lady concierge laundry service, answers a few questions on how we can reclaim our time.
GL: HOW DOES UTILIZING A CONCIERGE LAUNDRY SERVICE ALLOW INDIVIDUALS TO BETTER PRIORITIZE THEIR TIME?
JW: Once you reclaim your time and set that time aside to find a better balance in life, you'll feel refreshed and liberated from the stress that laundry (and no time) causes. One of our customers, who has had a standing weekly pick-up for over a year, made it a point to thank us for allowing her family to have more time together instead of fussing over whose turn it was to do laundry; both her and her husband's careers have thrived as a result. A more peaceful household allows for better functionality, both personally and professionally.
GL: WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF USING A CONCIERGE LAUNDRY SERVICE?
JW: Once scheduled, we will come to you on your scheduled day during the pick-up window. You'll receive a notification that we're on our way, confirmation that it has been picked up and you'll soon receive your invoice. Within 24-48 hours of pick up, you'll then be notified that your laundry is on its way back to you!
GL: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE TIME-SAVING FEATURES UNIQUE TO A CONCIERGE LAUNDRY SERVICE THAT DIFFERS FROM TRADITIONAL METHODS?
JW: We come to you for free pick up and delivery! You can schedule with us online any time, over the phone, or even via text message. Once scheduled, you simply place your laundry on your front porch at your designated pick up time and we pick it up during our regular routes.
GL: HOW DOES THE PERSONALIZED ATTENTION OF A CONCIERGE LAUNDRY SERVICE CATER TO THE DIVERSE NEEDS AND SCHEDULES OF CLIENTS?
JW: We are considerate of every individual’s time and needs, so we make the process as simple as possible. We also understand skin sensitivities and allergies; we keep on hand Free & Clear detergents (free of dyes, perfumes and other allergens) as well as other eco-friendly options to be used upon request - or feel free to provide your own detergent you already love!
GL: HOW DOES THE CONVENIENCE OF A CONCIERGE LAUNDRY SERVICE TRANSLATE INTO MORE QUALITY TIME SPENT WITH LOVED ONES OR PURSUING INTERESTS?
JW: Life is busy and it can be quite stressful to simply find the time to relax, recharge and reconnect. Four hours (or more) a week of your time reclaimed can mean having that game night with family, enjoying more self-care or hobbies, having a special dinner out with loved ones, finding time to study a new topic that piqued your interest, meal prepping for the week to eat healthier, exercising more, having extra time to work on developing your business, or maybe even sleeping in a little on the weekend.
LEARN MORE: Jessica Willmore, owner of The Laundry Lady: “Our heart is to serve our community, so we aim to keep our service affordable. We offer 10% discounts to our Seniors and First Responders and offer free pick up and delivery.”

Wellness isn’t about restricting — it’s really about giving. Giving to yourself and to your body in a way that allows them both to thrive. The cool part? The things that give to your body naturally give to your mind, your hormones, your earth, your relationships, and so on — it’s all beautifully interconnected in that way.
Eat your greens, cook at home, choose local produce and quality meats, don’t be scared of healthy fats — but also support local farmers, move in a way that makes your body and mind feel good, prioritize times of mindfulness and stillness.

“We have worked with David Wilkinson construction on our screen porches for a very long time now. We install these to separate our homes from other builders. We believe that this helps sell the homes faster and adds more value for the homeowner. The quality of the work is as good as it gets, as well as any follow up you may ever need.
