A Taste of Fall
October 2026 PUBLISHER
Adam Taylor | Adam.Taylor@CityLifestyle.com
Dear Readers,
M AN AG I N G E D I TO R
October has always felt like the official start of fall to me. The air gets a little cooler, weekends fill up quickly, and suddenly there’s an excuse to make plans around good food, local events and all the things that make this season one of my favorites. Our October Food & Drink issue is all about just that - the places, people and flavors that bring our community together. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that some of the best experiences are often right in our own backyard. This month, we’re highlighting local restaurants and businesses that have built something special, whether through recipes passed down through generations, a new concept bringing something different to the area or simply creating the kind of place you find yourself returning to again and again. We’re also sharing plenty of inspiration for getting out and enjoying the season. From discovering a new dinner spot to planning a date night, grabbing drinks with friends or finding something fun to do on a crisp fall weekend, October is a great time to explore a little closer to home. That’s one of my favorite parts of putting together this magazine each month. There are always new places to discover and stories to tell, even in communities we think we know so well. So, as the weather cools down and fall gets into full swing, I hope this issue inspires you to try somewhere new, revisit an old favorite and support the local businesses that give our community its flavor.

Our whitening solutions can remove years of stains caused by coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco, revealing a dramatically brighter smile. Restore damaged teeth or replace missing ones with our custom-made crowns and bridges. Crowns cover and protect weakened teeth, while bridges fill the gaps left by missing teeth. Contouring involves gently reshaping the enamel to improve the appearance of slightly misshapen teeth. Our practice also specializes in dental crowns and bridges, tooth colored fillings, gum contouring, porcelain veneers, and orthodontic options. Your journey to optimal oral health begins in a setting where expertise meets elegance, and your comfort and satisfaction are always our ultimate goals.

Montgomery County’s craft beer scene offers another way to experience the area’s agricultural roots and creative spirit. Local brewers are experimenting with everything from traditional styles and barrel aging to ingredients grown close to home, creating gathering places where the experience goes well beyond what’s in the glass. Saints Row Brewing | Gaithersburg Founded in 2017 by Tony Prebula, Saints Row helped establish Gaithersburg’s craft brewing scene. What began with a
passion for English-style bitters and cask ales has grown into a rotating selection that includes hazy IPAs, lagers and other creative releases. Community remains central to the experience, with collaborations and local events helping make the taproom a neighborhood gathering place. saintsrowbeer.com Elder Pine Brewing & Blending Co. | Gaithersburg Set on a 17-acre family-owned farm, Elder Pine combines small-batch brewing with barrel aging and wild fermentation. Co-founders George Lin, Paul Davidson and brothers Andrew and David Young use whiskey, wine and tequila barrels to develop distinctive saisons, sours, lagers and other releases. Live music, art and the wooded setting add to the experience. 4200 Sundown Road | elderpine.com Waredaca Brewing Company | Laytonsville Waredaca takes “farm-to-glass” seriously. MEET THE MAKERS BOTTLES WITH A STORY: BOLD FLAVORS & HANDCRAFTED SPIRITS
ARTICLE BY CARLY MAC MANUS PHOTOGRAPHY BY GRANDE GUAPO HANDCRAFTED
Harris, a former political professional, and Draheim, a conservation ecologist, built the business around their shared passion for land and process. Their lineup includes whiskey, gin, vodka, and liqueurs, with their straight rye earning a gold medal from the American Craft Spirits Association. The name reflects coyotes-"song dogs"-a symbol of resilience tied to the land they studied and now steward. For more information visit songdogdistilling.com.
TEQUILA, SONG DOG FARM DISTILLERY, 3708 SPIRITS, THE BLACK SWAN CO. From handcrafted tequila to locally distilled spirits and inventive mixers, today's home bar is as much about the people behind the label as what's in the glass. For Potomac-area hosts, these makers bring both standout flavor and story.
3708 SPIRITS
GRANDE GUAPO HANDCRAFTED TEQUILA
Bethesda native Cole Higgison turned 15 years in hospitality into a pursuit of authentic, additive-free tequila. After visiting nearly 50 distilleries in Jalisco, he partnered with fourth-generation Maestro Tequilero Jesus Correa in Amatitán. Grande Guapo launched in Montgomery County in August 2025, overcoming an early setback when a shipment was lost in transit. Today, the line includes Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, Extra Añejo, a coffee liqueur, and mezcal. Bottles are hand-labeled by women in Amatitán, with proceeds supporting local mothers. For more information visit grandeguapo.com.
Created by friends Dr. Mitchell Linton, Tony Ajayi, and Zachary Spence Jr., 3708 Spirits is a Maryland-crafted American agave brand rooted in culture and accessibility. Their motto, "Everyone Deserves Luxury," speaks to quality without exclusivity. The name reflects their journey-three founders, a pursuit of perfection, starting from zero, and new beginnings. Their Silver and Gold expressions are made from Blue Weber agave and distilled without additives. In 2025, they earned top honors at the University of Maryland Dingman Competition and awards at the L.A. Spirits Awards. For more information visit 3708spirits.com.

IF IT ISN’T GREAT, IT ISN’T GREGORIO’S Award-winning Italian favorite delivers comfort, connection, and unforgettable meals for families and neighbors ARTICLE BY CARLY MAC MANUS PHOTOGRAPHY BY DR. CEYLON MITCHELL, FOOD IMAGES BY JACK HARTZMAN
Gaithersburg readers, this is more than a feature story; it is an introduction to a place where every meal is made with care and quality ingredients. Known for generous portions, Gregorio’s serves up favorites like its famous meatball sliders and standout pizzas. Their large pizzas, always prepared with the freshest ingredients and handmade dough, measure an impressive 18 inches, approximately 27 percent larger than the 16-inch pies offered by many other restaurants. Gregorio’s is proudly family-owned and operated by Greg alongside his father, Donald Kahn, a partnership that has guided the brand from its early days to its continued growth across the region. What started as a vision to create a warm, neighborhood Italian restaurant has become a beloved staple known for consistency, quality, and heartfelt hospitality. Around the restaurant, one simple belief says it all: if it isn’t great, it isn’t Gregorio’s. From the moment guests walk in, the experience feels less like dining out and more like coming home. The atmosphere is inviting, the service is personal, and the menu is filled with Italian favorites crafted from fresh, high-quality ingredients. It is where families gather, friends reconnect, and everyday meals become meaningful moments. That sense of familiarity has earned Gregorio’s a loyal following throughout Montgomery County, including Readers’ Choice honors from Potomac Lifestyle Magazine, Best of Bethesda awards, and recognition from Washington Jewish Week. What sets Gregorio’s apart is its ability to stay rooted in tradition while meeting the needs of modern families. Whether dining in, ordering takeout, or hosting a gathering, the experience remains thoughtful and consistent. Through its community-driven Food 4 Cause program, the restaurant regularly supports local schools and nonprofits, reinforcing its commitment to giving back.

How Dr. Yu Orthodontics Is Helping Families Build Healthy, Confident Smiles
October is all about gathering around the table. From pumpkin patches and football tailgates to family dinners and Halloween treats, food has a way of bringing people together. Behind every laugh, conversation and celebration is something we often take for granted: a healthy smile. At Yu Orthodontics, creating beautiful smiles is only part of the mission. Dr. Robert Yu believes orthodontic treatment is an investment in lifelong health, confidence and quality of life. Every patient receives a personalized treatment plan designed around their unique needs, lifestyle and goals. Whether someone is considering braces for their child, exploring clear aligners as an adult or simply wondering if orthodontic treatment is right for them, Dr. Yu believes every smile deserves individualized care.
WHERE ART MEETS SCIENCE
Long before becoming an orthodontist, Dr. Yu envisioned a future in art. He earned an undergraduate degree in fine arts before being inspired by his uncle, a prominent dentist, to combine his artistic eye with science and patient care. After earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and completing his orthodontic specialty training at the University of Louisville, Dr. Yu found the perfect balance between creativity and clinical precision.

Today, he enjoys developing customized treatment plans that solve complex orthodontic challenges while helping patients build confidence that extends far beyond their smiles.
MORE THAN STRAIGHT TEETH
While many patients initially seek orthodontic treatment for cosmetic reasons, properly aligned teeth offer benefits well beyond appearance. Straight teeth are easier to brush and floss, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Correcting bite issues can improve chewing, speech and overall oral function while preventing uneven wear on teeth and unnecessary stress on the jaw. "Our goal is to create smiles that are not only beautiful but healthy and functional," Dr. Yu says. "When patients feel confident in their smile, it often changes the way they carry themselves every day." That combination of health and confidence drives every treatment plan at Yu Orthodontics.
PERSONALIZED CARE FOR EVERY AGE
Orthodontics is no longer just for teenagers. Today's patients range from young children to retirees, each with different goals and treatment needs. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends children receive their first orthodontic evaluation around age 7. Early
evaluations allow orthodontists to monitor growth and identify potential concerns before they become more complicated. Many children do not need immediate treatment, but early monitoring can make future treatment simpler and more effective. Adults are also choosing orthodontic treatment in record numbers. Whether preparing for a wedding, advancing in their careers or simply wanting to invest in themselves, many appreciate the discreet treatment options available today. Dr. Yu works closely with every patient to recommend the treatment that best fits their smile, goals and lifestyle.
TECHNOLOGY DESIGNED AROUND COMFORT
Modern orthodontics has transformed the patient experience. At Yu Orthodontics, advanced digital technology allows for more accurate diagnoses, customized treatment planning and greater comfort from the very first appointment. Digital scans have replaced many traditional impressions, creating a faster, cleaner experience while providing precise images that help guide treatment. Clear aligners and other modern treatment options have expanded choices for patients seeking a discreet way to straighten their teeth, while digital treatment planning allows patients to visualize their expected results before treatment even begins. The result is care that is more efficient, more comfortable and tailored specifically to each patient.
SMILING THROUGH EVERY SEASON
As families enjoy October's favorite foods, Dr. Yu encourages patients to make a few simple choices that help keep treatment on schedule.
For patients wearing braces, softer foods such as pasta, soups, roasted vegetables, rice dishes, fish and mashed potatoes are great options, especially after adjustments. Crunchy fruits and vegetables can still be enjoyed by cutting them into smaller pieces. Sticky candies, caramel, popcorn, hard pretzels, ice and hard candy should be avoided, as they can damage brackets and wires. Patients wearing clear aligners have a bit more flexibility. Simply remove aligners before eating or drinking anything besides water, brush before replacing them whenever possible and wear aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day to stay on track. With Halloween around the corner, Dr. Yu reminds families that moderation is key. Chocolate is generally a better choice than sticky candies, and brushing after enjoying seasonal treats helps protect both teeth and orthodontic appliances.
A PRACTICE BUILT ON RELATIONSHIPS
One of the things patients notice most about Yu Orthodontics is the atmosphere. The practice is built on trust, education and genuine relationships. Patients are encouraged to ask questions, understand their treatment options and celebrate every milestone throughout their orthodontic journey. Parents appreciate the clear communication. Children feel encouraged rather than intimidated. Adults value treatment designed around busy schedules. From the first consultation to the day braces come off and retainers are delivered, patients know they have a team committed to their long-term success. CONTINUED >

SMILE TIPS FROM DR. YU
Healthy habits can make a significant difference before, during and after orthodontic treatment. • Brush twice each day with fluoride toothpaste. • Floss every day to keep gums healthy. • Wear retainers exactly as instructed after treatment. • Visit your general dentist every six months. • Wear a mouthguard while participating in sports. • Drink plenty of water throughout the day. • Schedule an orthodontic evaluation by age 7.
BE THE BEST VERSION OF YU
At the heart of the practice is a philosophy that extends far beyond straight teeth. The slogan, "Be the Best Version of Yu," reflects Dr. Yu's belief that a confident smile can positively influence personal relationships, education, careers and overall well-being. His vision is to provide every patient with the highest level of orthodontic care while creating an experience where they feel supported, respected and excited about their transformation. When patients leave the office smiling with confidence, he believes the practice has fulfilled its mission. A confident smile lasts far longer than orthodontic treatment itself. At Yu Orthodontics, every patient is treated like family, with personalized care, advanced technology and a commitment to creating healthy smiles that last a lifetime. Whether treatment begins in childhood or adulthood, the goal remains the same: helping every patient become the best version of themselves, one smile at a time. A Farm-to-Table Gathering Spot in Gaithersburg
Ela Mesa Taste of Greece Driving through Gaithersburg's Spectrum Town Center on a Thursday afternoon, I was still getting my bearings in a part of Montgomery County that seems to reinvent itself every few years when I arrived at Ela Mesa Taste of Greece. The restaurant's name means "come in," and after sitting down with owner Georgios "George" Papaevangelou, it became clear why he chose it. From the moment guests walk through the door, they're welcomed like family.

Families bring lawn chairs, children play in the grassy square and neighbors gather to enjoy the music together. From May through September, weather permitting, the outdoor space becomes an extension of the restaurant itself. For George, it's about much more than entertainment. "It's community," he said. "The neighborhood."
A MODERN TAKE ON GREEK TRADITION
Inside, the atmosphere shifts to something more intimate. Modern Greek music plays softly in the background, creating a setting that reflects the restaurant's philosophy: honoring tradition while embracing contemporary influences. That same balance carries through the menu, where classic Greek recipes are prepared with fresh ingredients and modern presentation. CONTINUED >
Georgios "George" Papaevangelou
A PLACE THAT FEELS LIKE HOME
This wasn't so much an interview as it was a conversation with someone who genuinely wants people to feel at home. George and Executive Chef Ioannis "Yanni" Karageorgos have been friends for more than 15 years. In 2022, the co-owners transformed an empty shell into what has become far more than a Greek restaurant. Today, Ela Mesa serves as a gathering place for one of the nation's most diverse communities. That diversity is reflected throughout Montgomery County. According to WalletHub's 2026 diversity rankings, Silver Spring ranked as the nation's most diverse city, followed by Gaithersburg at No. 2, Germantown at No. 4 and Rockville at No. 19.
BUILT AROUND COMMUNITY
On weekend evenings, the plaza outside Ela Mesa comes alive. "Every Friday and Saturday, it's different bands," George said, describing the live music performances just steps from the restaurant's patio.

Chef Yanni continually refines the menu by staying connected to Greece. Each month, he and George meet virtually with the executive chef of a resort in Greece to exchange ideas about recipes, techniques and plating trends. The collaboration keeps Ela Mesa closely connected to the country's evolving culinary scene while remaining rooted in authentic Greek flavors. George also visits Greece every year to spend time with family. "I love both countries," he said. "I believe I belong more in the United States, but culturally Greek."
HOSPITALITY COMES FIRST
It's easy to understand why Ela Mesa has built such a loyal following. Rather than relying on flashy marketing or passing trends, the restaurant focuses on genuine hospitality. Whether it's a senior living community gathering for dinner, a family stopping in after shopping or first-time visitors who simply wandered through the door, guests often leave talking as much about the service as the food. That reputation is reflected online, where Ela Mesa maintains a 4.7-star Google rating and is ranked No. 7 among more than 330 restaurants in Gaithersburg on Tripadvisor.
FRESH INGREDIENTS, GENUINE SERVICE
The restaurant's success comes from a partnership built over more than 15 years. Chef Yanni is committed to preparing dishes with fresh, high-quality ingredients, while George prefers spending his time greeting guests rather than sitting behind a desk. "You have to like it," George said. "You have to like what you're doing." That passion is evident from the moment you walk through the door. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant directly or through OpenTable.

FROM THE AUTHOR
I've lived in Montgomery County for more than 35 years, and after my conversation with George, my wife, Deborah, and I stayed for dinner. We started with stuffed mushroom caps, warm pita bread served with Greek olive oil and olive spread, then moved on to Ela Mesa's signature yiouvetsi—slow-braised lamb shank served with red wine jus, light tomato broth, vegetables and orzo. It was rich, comforting and full of flavor. For dessert, we shared the house-made baklava, layered with walnuts, almonds and pistachios in crisp phyllo dough and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was the perfect ending to a memorable meal.

ARTICLE BY CARLY MAC MANUS PHOTOGRAPHY BY BEACH HOUSE FORT LAUDERDALE
COASTAL LUXURY, ONE COURSE AT A TIME BEACH HOUSE FORT LAUDERDALE REDEFINES THE LUXURY GETAWAY WITH ELEVATED DINING, CURATED EXPERIENCES AND UNFORGETTABLE WATERFRONT HOSPITALITY. Some destinations are known for their beaches. Others are celebrated for their restaurants. At Beach House Fort Lauderdale, guests never have to choose between the two. Set along the golden sands of Fort Lauderdale Beach, the newly reimagined all-suite resort offers more than a luxurious place to stay. It delivers a culinary journey that transforms every meal into part of the vacation itself. From sunrise breakfasts overlooking the Atlantic to intimate chefdriven dinners and handcrafted cocktails beneath the stars, dining is woven into nearly every moment of the Beach House experience. Our stay began with an evening welcome in the Presidential Terrace Suite, where panoramic ocean views set the tone for the days ahead. As the

sun dipped below the horizon, guests gathered for cocktails before heading downstairs to S3: Sun, Surf & Sand, the resort's signature oceanfront restaurant. With floor-to-ceiling views of the Atlantic Ocean, S3 effortlessly balances sophistication with a relaxed coastal atmosphere. The menu showcases fresh seafood, premium steaks and one of Fort Lauderdale's most impressive sushi selections, creating a dining experience that feels equally suited for a romantic evening or a celebratory dinner with friends. The following morning offered a different perspective of the property at Ilios, the resort's Mediterranean-inspired restaurant overlooking the pool deck. Breakfast here feels anything but ordinary. Signature dishes such as the Lobster Latke Benedict and Sunrise "505" Omelet elevate the morning meal while the openair terrace captures the easygoing elegance that defines Beach House Fort Lauderdale. Luxury here is never rushed. Afternoons unfold beneath private cabanas surrounding the resort's expansive pool deck, where attentive beach and poolside service allows guests to enjoy lunch without ever leaving their lounge chair. Fresh salads, sandwiches and light coastal fare arrive just steps from the water, creating an effortless transition from relaxation to dining. Between spa appointments at the full-service Spa Q and leisurely hours by the pool, every detail is designed to encourage guests to slow down and savor the moment. The culinary highlight of the trip arrived that evening inside Penthouse 2500. Rather than a traditional restaurant setting, Beach House welcomed guests into an intimate private dining experience curated by Executive Chef Nicole. The exclusive Chef's Table transformed dinner into an immersive culinary event, where each thoughtfully plated course showcased seasonal ingredients, refined techniques and globally inspired flavors. Wine pairings complemented every dish while Chef Nicole shared the inspiration behind each course, creating a level of interaction rarely found in traditional fine dining. It felt less like dinner service and more like an invitation into the creative process. The evening concluded high above Fort Lauderdale Beach at Nubé, the resort's rooftop lounge. As the city lights reflected across the Atlantic, handcrafted cocktails and sweeping panoramic views created one of the destination's most memorable settings. Whether celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying the end of another perfect vacation day, Nubé offers the type of atmosphere guests remember long after they return home. Luxury extends beyond the resort's dining rooms. Following sunrise yoga overlooking the beach and a scenic bicycle ride through Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, guests returned to Beach House for another afternoon of beachfront relaxation before embarking on one of Fort Lauderdale's signature experiences, a private gondola cruise through the city's famous waterways. Known as the "Venice of America," Fort Lauderdale reveals an entirely different personality from the water. Elegant waterfront estates, impressive yachts and quiet residential canals create an intimate perspective that many visitors never experience.
Dinner aboard the gondola came courtesy of Casa Sensei, where Pan-Asian and Latin-inspired cuisine elevated the already unforgettable evening. Fresh sushi, inventive small plates and waterfront views combined to create a dining experience that felt uniquely Fort Lauderdale. Throughout the stay, one theme remained consistent. Beach House Fort Lauderdale understands that today's luxury traveler wants more than beautiful accommodations. They want meaningful experiences. They want exceptional food, memorable conversations and thoughtfully designed moments that cannot be replicated anywhere else. The resort's residential-style suites, complete with separate living spaces, kitchens or kitchenettes and private balconies overlooking the ocean, provide the comfort of home while delivering the service and amenities expected from a premier beachfront destination. Whether enjoying breakfast on a private balcony, savoring a multicourse tasting menu with expertly selected wine pairings or ending the evening with cocktails overlooking the Atlantic, every experience reflects the property's commitment to elevated coastal living. For travelers seeking a destination where culinary excellence is just as important as oceanfront luxury, Beach House Fort Lauderdale proves that the best vacations are often remembered one extraordinary meal at a time.
