Displaced Homemakers Program: Over Forty Years of Changing Women's Lives The Displaced Homemakers Program has operated for over 40 years, helping
more than 4000 women in our vicinity. The impact on our local economy is measurable: new employees in the workforce and increased overall income. Santa Fe College proudly supports the program, which feeds into the Adult Department and credit classes. Two women graduated this spring from nontraditional programs, HVAC and Building Maintenance, and another is in Automotive. We are so thankful for community support.

Walk into most galleries and you’ll notice something: people admire a painting, read the label, and quietly move on. I’ve often wondered—what if galleries were places where conversations began instead of ended?
Art Collective That question inspired Art Collective. My goal was never simply another gallery, but a welcoming space where art becomes approachable and people from every background experience creativity together. Before becoming a full-time visual artist, I worked as an actress, director, conservatory faculty member, and executive leader, and developed an empathy training program centered on truly listening. Those experiences were preparing me for this. My paintings explore resilience, hope, transformation, and choosing light—even in life’s darkest moments. Today, Art Collective features talented regional artists working in painting, photography, mixed media, graphite, and digital art. My favorite moment happens often: someone says, “I don’t know anything about art.” Twenty minutes later, they’re discussing color, emotion, and sharing personal stories. That’s connection. This summer, we launch the Art Collective Cultural Series with Expressions of Light on Saturday, August 15, followed by Art Club—meeting every other Saturday beginning August 22—where conversation is the point.
