ELEVATING YOUR HOME DECOR

DISCOVERING YOUR DESIGN STYLE

In a Montessori Early Childhood classroom, highly trained teachers create a customized environment crafted to your child’s unique abilities, interests, and learning style.

This approach to learning is “hands-on.” Dr. Maria Montessori believed (and modern science has affirmed) that moving and learning are inseparable. In the prepared classroom, children work with specially designed manipulative materials that invite exploration and engage the senses in the process of learning. All learning activities support children in choosing meaningful and challenging work at their own interest and ability level. This child-directed engagement strengthens motivation, supports attention, and encourages independence with responsibility. Uninterrupted blocks of work time (typically 2+ hours in length) allow children to work at their own pace and fully immerse themselves in an activity without interruption. Your child’s work cycle involves selecting an activity, performing it for as long as it remains interesting, cleaning up the activity and returning it to the shelf, and making another work choice. This cycle respects individual variations in the learning process, facilitates the development of coordination, concentration, independence, and a sense of order while facilitating your child’s assimilation of information.

A Welcoming Space

A Montessori Early Childhood classroom feels more like a home than a school. You’ll see children happily working individually or in small groups, at tables or on the floor near small mats that delineate their own space. Specially designed learning materials are displayed on open shelves, easily accessible to the children. Classrooms also include low sinks accessible to the children, child-sized furniture, cozy spaces for quiet reading, reachable shelves with work available for free choice, and child-sized kitchen utensils so the students can eat, prepare, and clean up their snack on their own. Teachers gently guide students to help maintain the organization and cleanliness of this environment to keep it orderly and attractive and to help your child understand how to care for materials and clean up after themselves—skills you will be happy to observe carrying over in your home.

Celebrating All Things Style

September is known as the fashion and style issue in the magazine world, and we’re excited to participate in this trend, bringing you all things stylish, especially in regard to our homes and outdoor spaces.

Style is not just about the clothing world or the way we adorn ourselves, but it’s also about our inner and outer beauty and taking care of ourselves, to truly find our very own style.  It encompasses every aspect of our lives.  In this issue you’ll find stylish décor trends, unique interior spaces, and ways to discover your own individual design and style, presented to you by some of our local and talented experts.  We’ll also show you how to design a beautiful and functional family room as well as stylish audio and video spaces.    And let’s not forget the importance of our outdoor sanctuaries where we’ll showcase ponds and organically grown roses.

September is also the official beginning of fall, though here in North Central Florida, we’re still feeling a bit of the warm weather.  That start of a new season though gives us that feeling of a change in the air and a time to clean out or upgrade our closets, refresh and update our home décor, and reflect on how we take care of ourselves, including paying attention to our inner beauty and style.      Thank you for reading and supporting our City Lifestyle Community.  Cheers to finding and celebrating your own unique style, and see you around town!

Linda Gets Back to Life With Softwave Tissue Regeneration Therapy

My right thigh was hurting so much, I had to sit down often. I used to walk 2+ miles, 5 times a week. I did P.T. and flexibility, looked into non-surgical, regenerative treatments, which I've completed on my hip/spine. I decided to try SoftWave. After 6 treatments and a booster, I'm walking 2.25 miles 3 days a week, with very little discomfort. I can stand to cook meals. It's great to no longer need pain meds.

Discovering Your Design Style

ARTICLE BY KAELYN SCHMIDT: KAELYN SCHMIDT DESIGN PHOTOGRAPHY BY BLUEHOUR PHOTOGRAPHY

Personalizing your environment starts with understanding your individual style preferences. Whether you gravitate towards flowing curves or clean, straight lines, or favor light shades over deep tones, these decisions define the atmosphere you aim to create. By evaluating these elements, you can identify the design aesthetic that best mirrors your personal taste. When beginning the design of a room, it’s most effective to start with the largest piece, such as the bed in a bedroom or the sofa in a living room. This foundational element sets the tone for the entire design. In this coastal-inspired design, we selected a soft blue upholstered headboard with modern straight gold metal legs. The choice of blue influenced the selection of accessories like the rug, lamps, and drapery, while the gold influenced the hardware of the furniture, wall mirror, and ceiling fan. To maintain a bright atmosphere, we opted for white furniture, complemented by textured bedding and wicker ottomans. Adding a pair of faux palm trees completes the space, framing it with a coastal charm. https://kaelynschmidtdesign.com/

DONNA COHEN

INTERIOR DESIGNER

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION TO START IN THE INTERIOR DESIGN FIELD?

I followed my mother’s decorator around asking questions and wanting to choose my own things--- whoops!  He was so nice and patient with me--I was constantly rearranging my parents’ house!  After I started working I decorated all of our apartments!  I painted, sewed cushions for the furniture, and even painted paintings on canvas to match!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PROJECT?

Every project is my favorite or I wouldn’t be designing it--some, of course, are more memorable than others--but I love every project no matter how small or large!

TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT ONE-DAY ROOM TRANSFORMATIONS?

So excited about my One Day Transformations!  Most people I know now want instant gratification--this is the way for them to achieve it--quickly and on their budget--we will shoo them out in the morning and--voila!--they come home in the late afternoon to a new room.  We have a plan in place beforehand and if something has to be ordered, we make sure we have everything ready to go!   Or we just work with what they have, and repurpose and rearrange it!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE?

My 2 favorite quotes--Every great design begins with an even greater story!  An interior should define labeling--I don’t want to have someone walk into a room and say--I know what designer did this--!!  The best rooms have something to say about the people who live in them.

HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR WORK AND PERSONAL LIFE?

Set boundaries, Plan ahead, Delegate and Outsource, Take care of yourself and your time off. Do not make your Work Life your whole life-You will be a better designer if you have diverse interests.

Feeling Comfortable & Confident

In Your Own Skin

It is undeniable that each person has their own distinctive style, whether it be elegant, edgy, natural, or bold. These diverse styles contribute to our uniqueness and individuality. I have the pleasure of speaking with women daily, discussing their personal styles and the look that makes them feel most confident. Understanding my clients’ desired appearance and lifestyle is one of the most important parts of my job.

For instance, a client seeking a low-maintenance and natural enhancement might benefit from a lash lift, lip blushing, or lash line enhancement. Alternatively, a client desiring more definition to their features or a more glamorous appearance would be better suited for lash extensions, brow lamination, or a powder brow.

Beauty enhancements may or may not be right for you, but the most important thing is to stay uniquely you and embrace the style that makes you feel most comfortable and confident in your own skin.

Weight Loss Medications to Improve Overall Health

Obesity is a complex disease caused by increased calorie intake and reduced physical activity. Most people have tried willpower and lifestyle changes to manage this condition with little success. FDA-approved medications like Semaglutide, also known by the brand names Ozempic and Wegovy can be effective for weight loss for people who are overweight or obese. Semaglutide is a once-a-week injectable peptide that mimics the GLP-1 hormone released in the gut in response to eating. This medication helps the body to produce

more insulin which lowers blood sugar and decreases appetite making people feel full. Significant weight loss has been observed when Semaglutide is combined with a healthy diet and exercise. Weight loss can improve weight related conditions like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, Type 2 Diabetes, pre-diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver, and joint pain. In 2023 the SELECT research trial found that overweight or obese adults who took Semaglutide for more than three years had a 20% lower risk of heart attack, stroke, or death from heart disease. Research also found that adults treated with Semaglutide for up to 15 months were able to maintain their weight loss for up to four years. Case study: 38-year-old female was interested in losing weight to improve her health. She had tried all the known weight loss programs in the past but was unsuccessful. She did Semaglutide for nine months at PRP Regeneration Specialists and lost 43.44 pounds. She states Semaglutide “rewires how you think about food and drink”. To learn more: PRPregen.com

Express Yourself!

The Importance of Style and Fashion for children and teens

Style is very personal and can reflect who you are and how you want others to understand you. Fashion can contribute to creating your own unique style as you try on different additions to your personality.

This is important to children and teens as they create who they want to be and how they want to be seen. It is also fundamental to being able to either position oneself as totally unique or find a way to fit into a group and belong.

How can parents be open to how style helps their children be creative and have freedom of expression?

To begin with, it is helpful to understand that part of child development is creating one’s own style, influenced by environment, culture, and social group. It is important to take a step aside and let your children make choices whenever possible. This shows them that you have confidence in their choices. Of course, you must weigh this with what is socially appropriate.

If your child’s school has uniforms, cool backpacks and accessories can be avenues for showing personality and creativity. Some schools, such as mine, have a dress code allowing for freedom within specific parameters.

I recall many pictures of myself when I was a young teen that made me gasp and ask my mother, “How could you let me go out looking like that?” She told me I would find ways after leaving the house to apply heavy eye makeup and even change clothes! At the time, I thought I looked appropriate and that she was too old-fashioned to understand.

I am sure everyone reading this can recall altercations with their parents over clothing.

It can be challenging to find a happy medium. It is helpful to talk to your child about your experiences and reflections on when you were in their shoes, albeit at a different generational time. And if you have any old pictures of yourself, a picture is worth a thousand words.

TRANSFORMING Pain into Purpose

How Faith and Prayer Transformed my Life!

PHOTOGRAPHY

What brought you to Florida?

In 2022, my husband was offered a position in Alachua County. We took the leap of faith and moved from Elkhorn, Wisconsin to Newberry, Floria. This was my first move out of the state.

What led you to your current profession?

After 2 life-saving emergency surgeries in the early 90’s, I remember praying and asking God for help. I knew there had to be another way other than a life of illness, depression, and PTSD. My prayers were answered, doors were opened, and help arrived. At that time, I learned more about my abilities as a Master Teacher, Psychic, Medium, Energy Therapist, Mentor, and Life Coach.

I also awakened to the truth of who I really was and why I was here at this time. After 27 years with Corporate America, I knew it was time for change. This redirection

led me to founding my business, Angelik Hands, LLC, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2016. It was later reestablished in Newberry, Florida in the summer of 2022. I help my clients and students Create Heaven on Earth through my many services.

What’s something valuable you’ve learned during your career?

I have learned many valuable lessons along the way – compassion, humility, forgiveness, self-love, and acceptance of self and others. Through mirrored consciousness, I have also learned a great deal about how far I’ve come and my relationship with my Higher Self.

What would you like to say to your 24-year-old self?

“You are enough, I believe in you, and I love you!”
