I love January! The weather here in Florida is cooler, the holidays are behind us so we can get back to business, and we’re filled with a sense of a new start and new goals to set. At age 13 Anthony Tornese was diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoma and underwent a bone marrow transplant at Shands Teaching Hospital. The transplant was a success, and he made a rapid recovery and was able to resume normal activities growing up. Anthony noticed that he was always feeling fatigued and sluggish during the day and would often hit the snooze button on his alarm clock. His muscles and joints “felt achy” all the time. His provider prescribed him testosterone cream, but Anthony would forget to put it on so it did not improve his symptoms. Testosterone deficiency in men is underdiagnosed and under treated. Creating a Unique Fitness Experience

When I started Fitness Driven Results (FDR) in 2013, I had little money, no permanent space and as for equipment, my father-in-law donated and cut tree limbs with handles drilled onto each piece. What I did have was a desire to create a unique fitness experience resulting in my valued clients continuing to come back for creative and fun workouts. I have been working in the fitness industry for 15 years. I have had the great fortune and pleasure to train all different types of people; from college and local athletes to 80-year-old cancer survivors and everyone in between. Regardless of who you are, what your fitness level is or how old you are, I train you to achieve your fitness goals. I am very candid and straightforward; I challenge everyone to be better than who they were when they started, and I expect you to show up and work hard. I promise to do the same for you. Developing a good exercise foundation to be able to exercise long term and stay healthy is the most important key to your success. In 2021 I opened my first location off 6th street. It is important I work where I live as a proud member of the local Gainesville Community. From using homemade wood weights outdoors to a multi-use rig in a permanent indoor facility, I have taken all the years of learning, experimenting, and adapting to provide a unique and challenging blend of traditional strength training, boot camp and outdoor obstacles. FDR’s program is designed to strengthen and condition your body and mind. Together we will set realistic goals and you will work to meet these goals through creative, fun, and tough workouts that set you up for health and fitness success. Are health or wellness goals on your list in 2024? You’re not alone. Unfortunately, few achieve their goals. Too often, our exuberance results in pain. The truth is, health isn’t an easy task. It’s not a 90 day challenge. Active daily participation is needed to achieve and maintain it. This gets harder as we age, especially because we miss a key factor—mobility. By our thirties, we’ve established muscular imbalances that cause poor movement patterns. This leads us down the road to premature degeneration and increased injury. Some let that scare them into exercise avoidance, when in fact, it should inspire the relearning of “moving well.” Why? Because movement is medicine. Here’s where people tend to think of stretching (flexibility). Flexibility is the passive stretch of tissues. But mobility is flexibility plus neuromuscular (brain-body) control working to move actively through a range of motion, such as a squat. So, if you want to move well as you age, decrease pain and injury, keep up with your kids, play sports, or whatever else makes you happy, a full movement assessment and plan can help you get moving and stay moving. Ballet is a subtle and beautiful way of movement through steps and gestures stretching all the way from the fingertips to the toes. Obtain long lean muscles and improve posture. Grab a chair or use the back of your couch! With these few exercises, you can work towards an elegant, graceful and fluid body. Attitude Lifts: From a standing position, turn the legs out and lift one leg to hip height behind you with the knee bent. Draw the abdominals in and lift and lower the leg. Keep one arm out to the side in the second or above in fifth position. Plié: Legs hip-width apart, turn out from the hips, bend your knees slowly, keeping your body straight -backside tucked and lower your hips halfway down to knee level rise up.
