For many of us, this time of year is full of excitement and presents us with a reset, new horizons, and goals to pursue. I personally LOVE all things New Year’s and find this to be a very optimistic time of looking forward. But I realize not everyone feels that way. For some, January can be a reminder of failed attempts from years past and the burden of expectation that this year will be different.
We approached this issue of Gainesville City Lifestyle from a mindset of not supplying quick fixes to check boxes in the short term but valuing what is sustainable over the long haul. We wanted to provide inspiration for making lasting, realistic, long-term improvements to your physical, emotional and mental health, and we’ve provided some guidance and tips from local experts to help here as well.
When it comes to anything in life - business, finance, food, home, and personal health – it’s not what you do some days that move the needle - it’s what you do MOST days.
For instance, taking a vacation every day would be financially and practically unfeasible, but taking a trip a few times a year is doable. Having a beautiful steak dinner with some nice wine and creme brulee every night for dinner isn’t best for your health, but doing so once in a while might be just fine and doesn’t give us that sense of depriving ourselves.
It’s not the sometimes choices we make, it’s the most of the time choices. Everything in moderation!
So plan the vacation AND work to establish more regular rest in your work week. Join a fitness community or start doing Pilates or Cyclebar workouts, AND enjoy that pizza and cocktail from Midici! It’s not what you do some days - it’s what you do most days that will lead to a more peaceful, rewarding, and fabulous 2023.
Cheers to a fun and healthy 2023! And see you around town!

Learning to navigate life while working towards your goals is the key to your success.
ARTICLE BY DAWN SMITH, OWNER ABSOLUTE WELLNESS AND WEIGHTLOSS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAWN SMITH & JEN @MOMENTTOSMILEWhen someone comes into my clinic, they will become part of a journey that goes beyond their weight loss goals. We dive deep into what losing weight does for their health and life. Together we work on learning food value and lifestyle changes so when they lose the weight, they have the knowledge and tools to keep it off.
Helping my clients find their deep rooted “why” is my first step. We then start making the changes they need to become healthier versions of themselves. Change is not easy. Sticking to the changes through life stressors, holidays, and social events can be challenging.
Remembering why they started and learning to navigate life while working towards their goals is key to their success.
My personal goals are based on what being the healthiest version of myself allows me to do. My father was 49 years old when he died. He was overweight and had multiple health issues. I was determined to not let that happen to me. After having my boys, my “why” grew stronger. I did not only want to be present in their lives, but be a healthy role model and an active participant in their world. The quality time and experiences we are able to share are priceless.
by Jen @momenttosmileExercise is a big part of my life. I train most days or at least get movement in. There are many benefits to exercise. It increases muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance. Exercise also improves metabolism, blood sugar control, and blood pressure control. Moreover, it has been shown to help decrease stress and is beneficial to heart health. Even though exercise helps with weight loss and maintenance of weight, there is a saying that goes, “you can’t out-train a bad diet.” Therefore, my main focus is on nutrition.

We mop the floors, vacuum the rugs, clean the toilet and scrub the tub – basic household maintenance that keeps our homes in relatively working order. Some of us are more thorough housekeepers than others, but generally we have the same priorities when it comes to cleaning.
However, a lot of us miss places in the home we might not think of that can get surprisingly icky and become actual health hazards. So next time you’re dusting the bookshelves, you may want to consider these additional nooks and crannies:
SHOWER HEADS:
Mineral deposits from water – especially if your H2O is hard – can leave deposits and clog the flow. A great trick is to use hot water and the trusty vinegar again; for metal showerheads, boil and then simmer in a pot on the stove. Plastic showerheads should be soaked in the hot vinegar/water solution.
SINKS:
Ironically, the place we go to clean our hands and dishes is often the filthiest place in the home. Try using an abrasive cleaner or a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to remove residue and bacteria.
Our bodies leave oils and dead skin cells on the sheets and pillows. In addition to turning your mattress, it might help to also vacuum the surface and sprinkle a little baking soda. Air out your pillows, or if possible wash them before replacing with clean slips.
We spend a lot of time on our phones, tablets, keyboards and remotes, which leaves a lot of dirt and bacteria that can build up on the surfaces and crevices. Using a cotton ball dampened with rubbing alcohol will clean your keyboard and remote thoroughly. For your screens, the best method is regular cleaning with a slightly dampened microfiber cloth.

The aging process is inevitable and today people are looking for non-surgical, non-medicinal treatment options to heal and repair damaged tissue that is safe and increases the speed of healing with little to no downtime.
The Baby Boomer II and Gen X generations (ages 42-67) are especially interested in staying healthy and active as they age. These people are looking for treatments that will allow for quick and natural healing so they can get back to doing the things they love as soon as possible.
Typically, if a 40 to 50-year-old person sees their primary care provider for knee pain, they will be referred to an orthopedic provider who will recommend physical therapy, steroid injection, or surgery depending on the situation. Physical therapy can be very helpful in strengthening the muscles, tendons, and ligaments around the knee, but will not improve symptoms of pain and inflammation related to osteoarthritis or damage inside the joint. Steroid injections are inexpensive and temporarily improve pain and inflammation but can lead to further degeneration of the joint and tissue. Surgery may be necessary for structural problems, but many people are concerned about the potential serious complications, downtime, and expense of surgery. Medications can cause serious side effects and dependency.
Regenerative treatments can stimulate the body’s own healing response releasing growth factors and cytokines necessary for healing. It is a known fact that as we age the demand for tissue healing and repair increases, while our bodies’ ability to repair damaged tissue decreases. This is where regenerative treatments can be helpful because they provide the “tools” that stimulate the body’s natural healing response. Some examples of locally offered regenerative treatments include Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Amniotic Products and non-invasive focused shockwave.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments have grown in popularity not only for professional athletes, but also for the average weekend warriors. PRP comes from a person’s own blood, so it is safe and decreases the risk of an adverse reaction. Blood is drawn from a person’s arm like a regular lab draw using sterile equipment specially designed to concentrate the platelets in the blood. Platelets contain growth factors and cytokines and when injected into skin or tissue, it immediately activates the body’s own natural healing response. The effectiveness of the treatments depends on the type of equipment used to make PRP, the injection technique (ultrasound guided is best for orthopedic conditions) and the

body’s healing response. Platelet Rich Plasma treatments work best in younger, healthy people with minimal tissue damage.
Amniotic products are showing promising results for older adults with moderate to severe tissue damage or arthritis. Umbilical cords products such as Purified Amniotic Fluid and Wharton’s Jelly Matrix/ Cellular contain powerful biologic signaling cells that can rapidly decrease inflammation and pain while stimulating tissue healing and repair with little downtime compared to surgery. These products are made from the umbilical cord donated from healthy C section births in the US. Although these treatments are considered investigational and not FDA approved, they are regulated and manufactured in FDA compliant facilities that follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
Focus shockwave is a novel, non-invasive treatment to treat stiffness pain related to soft tissue damage. This focused energy device can locate the source of the pain and stimulate natural healing immediately. Most people notice a decrease in pain by 50% or more with the first treatment.
Focused shockwave treatments can be very effective alone or in combination with regenerative injections to reduce pain and improve function so people can get back to living their best life. To learn more about these exciting treatment options visit our website: PRPregen.com
Wharton's Jelly Matrix is an umbilical cord product derived from healthy, consenting, C-section mothers in the United States. The product can speed up the healing process in painful joints with little or no downtime.
Prolotherapy works by stimulating the body's natural healing mechanisms to lay down new tissue in the weakened area.

When I was in my 20’s and early 30’s I used to roll my eyes at the health fanatics. I mean, who wants to live like that?! Going to the gym, watching what you eat, going to bed at a reasonable time. Why would anyone want to live a life of missing out? What I didn’t realize at the time was not only is a healthy lifestyle NOT missing out but offered a much more abundant life!
Through my 20’s and in the process of having my 4 kids my health started a steady decline. I ended up with an adrenal tumor that really messed me up and a spinal tumor that left me without feeling in my legs. After a lot of research, I came upon a natural solution. This required extreme diligence for a year. After 4 months I was able to feel my legs again. After a year my MRI showed that the tumor was completely gone, the bone grew itself back.
Meg Fanelli Regional Manager ClubI WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT RESOLVING MY HEALTH ISSUES COULD HELP SO MANY.
I started working out and I loved fitness so much that I decided to make it my profession so I could help others overcome their physical limitations. I used various fitness modalities which increased my strength but left me with the same nerve issues and difficulty with coordination, specifically in my left leg. Being diagnosed with Lupus complicated matters pertaining to my joints, muscles, lungs, heart, among other things left me feeling depleted. I was no longer able to keep lifting heavy or run. Enter Pilates!! Little did I know how much it would fix my body! I was even able to get off my blood pressure medication. Pilates benefits those who have Lupus by enabling the person to experience greater and more expansive mobility in their joints while not exhausting them. We go to
the point of activation then back off. So, while other workouts made me feel like I needed to take a nap afterwards, Pilates left me feeling strong, flexible and like my body was at peace.
Wellness is a life full of abundance and I’m excited to share that at the IACP International Wellness Conference in California next March. I would have never thought resolving my health issues could help so many and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Be well.

LYMPHATIC MASSAGE AND INFRARED SAUNAS ARE SHOWN TO RELIEVE PAIN AND IMPROVE OVERALL WELLNESS

Not only will you find a relaxing spa experience at Club Synergie , but you will also see a dramatic improvement in your overall wellness with these natural skin and body treatments. The Lymphatic Vacuum Massage has been shown to result in improved circulation and pain management, assisting in lymphatic drainage and giving you all the benefits of cupping without bruising. If you’re looking to reset after the holidays, lower stress, and boost your mood with an Infrared Sauna session. Relax on the anti-gravity bed with a cool lavender towel and chilled eye mask while you sweat out mold and microplastics. In less than one hour, you can burn up to 600 calories, release toxins, and reduce inflammation. Studies referenced are made available to anyone upon request.
It’s easy to forget dogs need exercise until you see your pup racing crazily through your house for seemingly no reason. The truth is that that behavior typically means they have a lot of pent-up energy they need to let out!
When you make sure your dog has enough physical activity, you’re ensuring he or she has a healthy heart and will live a long, full life. Exercising with your dog has even more benefits: You will not only get your own physical activity but will also strengthen the bond between you and your four-legged friend.
The amount of exercise your dog needs depends on several factors. Dog age, breed and physical condition determine a lot.
A puppy’s body is still developing, so a puppy does better with several short bursts of activity throughout the day. Because a puppy is still growing, long walks or runs may not be appropriate or advised until they’re older. This is where consulting with your vet comes into play. Your vet can examine your dog and make sure he or she can handle a long walk.
DOGS ARE LIKE PEOPLE. THEY NEED TO EXERCISE TO STAY HAPPY AND HEALTHY TOO.
The options for outdoor exercises come with the bonus of outside sniffing opportunities. Providing various outdoor activities helps stimulate their mind, as well. Walking, running, swimming, cycling, and playing fetch all provide the physical and mental stimulation your pup needs.
Remember to keep your dog’s safety in mind. Exercising outside when it’s extremely hot or cold can be just as dangerous for them as for humans. Outside activities also mean encountering pests or allergens, so keep your pup up to date on vaccinations and flea and tick medications.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, there are plenty of fun things you can do indoors! As with outdoor fun, try a variety of inside games to see what your dog prefers. Also, be sure to change up your routines to keep him or her mentally stimulated. Dogs tend to get bored easily. Simple actions like climbing the stairs, playing tug of war, or a rousing game of hide and seek are all activities that family members of all ages can play. Indoor exercises can serve as wonderful compliments to an outdoor exercise regimen. Be sure to move any breakables away from your activity area. Watch your dog for signs of fatigue, like excessive panting, and stop play immediately if you have concerns.
Dogs need and benefit from exercise just like people. Like us, it’s important to know your dog’s physical limits. It’s also important to ensure you stay up with their overall health and wellness.

All cocktails are “Hand-Crafted using only Premium liquors with Real Fruit juices (No Pre-mixes). Whether it be blackberry simple syrup we make from scratch, aromatic infusions, or fresh fruit juices, we strive to provide the best possible cocktail without ever opening a bottle of mix or concentrate. We’re currently working on some house-made liquor infusions that will be hitting our menus in January or February.
You won’t find a “well” liquor brand in our bar, we feel that a good cocktail whether it be one of our specialties or an Espresso Martini, should never be made with low end liquor just to save a dime, we’d much prefer to make it with the best possible ingredients possible, alcohol included!
Our ethos, whether it be food or drink, is to provide our guests with the best possible ingredients, made in house, and
always fresh over frozen. Our concept has been called fast and fun, which is a great way to describe us. From time to time, you’ll see our kitchen team tossing pies to each other from across the kitchen, some can toss dough up to twenty feet in the air. While we don’t consider ourselves a “dinner and a show” concept, we do find many guests absorbed as they watch the kitchen work. It truly is a unique experience and a glimpse into a commercial kitchen that most never get to witness. Next time you stop in, feel free to bring your children and walk up to the kitchen and talk to our team. Most of them have been with us for three to four years and live and breathe pizza, and always enjoy sparking some joy with our younger guests.

In 2020 my family decided to move to Gainesville. I was looking for a great community to grow my business, somewhere my faith could be my inspiration and a community where my family would thrive. In all those areas and many more, Gainesville was a natural fit.
Coming to a new community does have its challenges, and the major one for Pinnacle Restorations has been letting everyone know we are here and providing the best quality service to be found in town. Our first strategy to let our new community know we are here has been building relationships, being a part of the Chamber and supporting other local business owners.
I come from a very competitive family, from my dad who is a Hall of Fame High School Coach and one-time professional athlete, to my brothers who all played at a collegiate level. Competition is in our blood and a part of my team development. My team is gritty and focused on getting better in each service area, every week. This focus has been monumental to our development and success.
I don’t waste time with distractions. When it’s time for business, I am 100% focused on my business. But when not focused on my business, my focus is my family. My family means the world to me. When with my family, I am fully present.
I live by the motto to do the best I can and let everything else shake out. I am really tough on myself and so I surround myself with a team that I can learn from and that holds me accountable. Positive reinforcement goes a long way in building a great team. I tell my team,” Iron sharpens Iron”. I expect the best from myself and them.
For my customers. Nothing is better to me than exceeding my customers’ expectations. Some of our most challenging jobs are when our customers need us there as soon as possible and in the case of Emergency Water Damage jobs, well, that is always the case. We strive to be there within the hour, and nothing makes my day more than seeing the look on their faces when we restore their home back to its original glory. Our logo, the Lighthouse, reflects that drive, to be the light in a storm or during adversity, that’s Pinnacle Restorations.
In the past year we have received 60 plus Google 5-star reviews. I love that my customers feel like their money is well spent with us. Business relationships with Pinnacle Restorations should always be a winwin. We will provide the best service and you will get the best product. Reach out to us at Pinnacle Restorations at (352) 448-8043 or by email at guy@ pinnaclerestorations.com and for emergencies call our 24-Hour Emergency Service line (352) 448-8043. Looking forward to speaking with you soon.

CBD can help in a variety of ways.
ARTICLE BY MALY MARKETING | PHOTOGRAPHY BY STRAIGHT HEMP
There can be quite a bit of confusion about the therapeutic uses for CBD. That’s fairly normal for any treatment outside of the purview of America’s Pharma-industrial complex. First here’s what CBD isn’t: It’s not a cure-all, it won’t cure cancer, make you taller, or cause world peace.
There’s a couple of key effects that can be backed up by numerous quality 3rd party studies published in rigorous medical journals. If you’d like to investigate for yourself, the website for the National Library of Medicine at the NIH is a great place to start.
CBD CAN HELP REDUCE ANXIETY.
According to multiple studies and meta-studies, CBD has found to have a significant effect in reducing anxiety.
CBD CAN HELP ADDRESS SLEEP DISTURBANCES.
Studies have found that using CBD can decrease sleep disturbances with the most significant results presenting in the first 30 days.
There are a variety of other things that CBD may help with. Studies are being run at a furious pace to prove/disprove those things. For right now the best information is on sleep and anxiety. And we could all use a little less anxiety and a little better sleep.

Post-holiday blues got you down? Hidden amongst the joys of the season are the pressures of planning, shopping, family, travel, and overindulgence, all of which affect our nervous system, causing both mental and physical stress. These stressors put us in fight or flight mode, leading to chemical changes that increase inflammation, as well as muscle tension that limits joint motion, such as a stiff neck. You may have even “overdone it” cleaning or lifting, resulting in a mild sprain, strain, or other traumatic event to your body. These “thoughts, trauma, and toxins,” as we refer to them, all create a cascade of pain, inflammation, muscle compensation, and lead to a lack of joint motion.
This is where chiropractic comes in. We create motion in restricted joints either by hand or by instrument, such as the Activator. Restoring mobility to the spine and/or extremities decreases muscle tension, stimulates the nervous system and the release of happy chemicals like serotonin and dopamine. Best of all, it’s a drug free way to feel better and contribute to your long term well-being.
