Introducing t h e 2 02 2 R o a d Tr i p Wo r t h y Toy o t a Tu n d r a BORN FROM INVINCIBLE - BUCKLE UP FOR A NEW ADVENTURE, BECAUSE TOUGHNESS IS IN OUR DNA! ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY GATORLAND TOYOTA

ARRIVING THIS DECEMBER, THE ALL-NEW 2022 TOYOTA TUNDRA WILL SOON BE SEEN IN DRIVEWAYS, WORKSITES AND OFF-ROAD TRAILS NEAR YOU. From its assertive exterior, to its welcoming interior, this truck was designed to conquer the road while keeping you comfortable. No need to worry about the Tundra handling a trailer — nothing will intimidate this beast of a pickup. With the Tundra, towing is made simple, thanks to various sensors and cameras. Take your pick of the i-FORCE 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine or i-FORCE MAX 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 hybrid engine — giving the power you need and the efficiency you appreciate on long or short trips. After a long day, the Tundra provides an oasis from the hustle and bustle of another workweek. Its comfortable (dare we say luxurious?) cabin offers available leather-trimmed and soft-touch materials and available heated/ventilated front seats. And, an available panoramic moonroof certainly enhances any ride, day or night. Stay connected at all times with the Tundra. You can look forward to an enormous available 14-inch audio multimedia touchscreen, which keeps your phone screen safely within reach, thanks to wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. And, of course, the Tundra doesn’t neglect you or your passengers’ safety. With features like Blind Spot Monitor (BSM),5 which keeps you aware of vehicles in your blind spots, and Trailer Merge Warning, which helps you safely change lanes when driving with a trailer, you can take any road with confidence. Plus, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA),6 allows you to safely back out of a parking spot. Interested in the 2022 Toyota Tundra? Contact us directly with any questions about reservations and stop by Gatorland Toyota at 2985 N Main St, Gainesville, FL 32609 to see our Tundra inventory in full. 24

CULINARY CREATIONS

Jan Costa: “Committed to a real, functioning, local & sustainable meat program.” FEEDING OUR COMMUNITY FROM WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY EACH WEEKEND JAN COSTA WAKES UP AROUND 5 AM SATURDAY MORNING, TO GET READY FOR THE HAILE PLANTATION FARMERS MARKET AND HIS CUSTOMERS ARE THERE AND WAITING FOR HIM. Jan sees people every day taking back control of their own food system, “They are learning, they do not need mega farms or stores to eat.” And Jan has become for many Gainesville residents, the local vendor of locally grown food done right. In 2009, the Florida Fresh Meat Company was born and has grown and blossomed into a thriving family of local sustainable farms now called, The Florida Fresh Family of Farms. In fact this start-up local grass-fed beef company has grown into the largest independent “one stop shop” of local sustainable proteins. And did you know that those farms operate chemical, hormone and antibiotic free? Most farms that ask to join this group are rejected because they do not produce the high-quality livestock Jan requires. And those who do qualify, must adhere to very strict feed programs and principles, which include no pesticides, no hormones or antibiotics, clean healthy feed and for cattle, an all grass fed and finished program. For Jan everything The Florida Fresh Meat Company does is in its own backyard. “We are locally sustainable and since the pandemic, for many of our customers, we are forever more the only way they buy their proteins.”

“I watched my community come together to help me get this equipment to my house, and words can’t explain how appreciative my family and I are. —Anna Sarol

family and I are,” Anna says. The money for Anna’s stairlift was part of a giveaway campaign from the company during the 2020 Christmas season that benefited more than 80 recipients across the country with a final distribution of $250,000 throughout the year. When the company opened nominations, they were flooded with submissions. Community leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you nominated people that were in need of assistance. As the eyes and ears of the community, these readers were able to help identify people who might have

otherwise gone unnoticed or unrecognized. One such nominee was Kathy*, an aunt who is raising her three young relatives. The children came from an abusive situation, and Kathy, a single guardian, works tirelessly to provide for them. Nevertheless, the family was already living in poverty despite her working seven days a week when Kathy lost her job during the pandemic. She resorted to selling tamales to help pay the rent. When a case manager with a Big Brothers Big Sisters foster youth mentoring program heard about Lifestyle’s campaign and call for nominations, she quickly thought of Kathy. “When I shared the news that Kathy was selected and would be receiving $3,000, she cried, screamed, and was in disbelief,” the case manager said. “She immediately wanted to give back to me and the donor by providing endless tamales. This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors.” In yet another case, Emily* who worked as a janitor at a school, was a recipient and was struggling to afford simply buying groceries for her children. Before the ongoing difficulties of the pandemic even started, a tornado destroyed the school she worked at just a couple weeks before the initial shutdown in March 2020 which resulted in a loss of income for her. Emily was incredibly surprised and grateful to receive assistance from the giveaway. *Names changed for privacy
