ESCAPE, Relax, AND RECHARGE In Style Whether seeking recreation or relaxation, a luxurious retreat that blends effortless style with Texas Hill Country's natural beauty awaits at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa, all inspired by nature and rooted in meaningful connections. Tucked within 4,000 acres of rolling hills, nature preserves and scenic waterways, the resort recently was named one of the Top 5 Resorts in Texas in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards 2025. With four championship golf courses, a serene spa, inspired dining, elevated fitness amenities and refined guest accommodations, guests are greeted with legendary Texas hospitality and voluminous ways to unwind with flair. Christian Jones, MBA, Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa director of marketing, shares that wellness and recreation are thoughtfully woven into the resort’s design. "Guests can stay active in a 33,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art fitness center, or relax at one of four distinct pools, including a serene adults-only infinity pool and a heated indoor option perfect for year-round laps. The Mokara Spa invites guests to slow down and recharge, while the resort’s award-winning golf courses offer unforgettable play." He adds: "Younger guests can enjoy their own adventures, too, whether splashing around in the family-friendly pool and splash pad, or joining guided nature hikes and outdoor games as part of Barton's Kid Zone programming." Christian says although the resort's located just 20 minutes from downtown Austin, once guests arrive, "it feels like a world away." Taking cues from the surrounding natural landscape, the artwork and guest rooms or suites offer a residential ambiance with layered textures, mixed materials and eclectic furnishings. CONTINUED >

“It’s a sophisticated retreat that feels like a home away from home. Throughout the property, we’ve created intentional spaces, like rocking chairs on the porch overlooking Lady Bird Lawn or fire pits perched above the 18th hole of the Fazio Foothills golf course, all of which invite guests to slow down, connect and take in the beauty around them,” he explains. Launching as a country club in the mid-1980s, the resort’s doors officially opened Sept. 5, 1987, with former First Lady of the United States Lady Bird Johnson attending the grand opening ceremony. Christian says one of the on-site golf courses was designed by Austin native Ben Crenshaw and his business partner Bill Coore, another by Arnold Palmer and two by Tom Fazio. He says the resort has hosted a variety of notable events and tournaments, including the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf (Champions Tour) Tournament, and many influential guests, including President H.W. Bush, President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama, music-great Willie Nelson and Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell. “The University of Texas legendary football coach Darrel K Royal was a founding member of Barton Creek Country Club and frequently golfed Barton Creek’s courses; one of the resort’s ballrooms is named in his honor,” Christian adds. The resort’s golf courses helped earn the resort a place among the Top 20 resorts in the world, and an additional high-ranking recognition as one of the Top U.S. Golf Resorts by Golf Digest. The resort’s various dining options include Blind Salamander Kitchen & Bar (seafood, duck, lamb, filet mignon); Bob’s Steak & Chop House (award-winning prime steaks, chops, seafood); Crenshaw’s Bar & Eatery (golfers’ hideaway); Jim Bob’s Lobby Lounge (craft cocktails and small plates); Nopales (casual dining such as chicken street tacos); Canyons Grill (Austin-inspired dishes and clubhouse fare); Texas Spice (breakfast entrees with Southern flavors); Travis Pool Bar & Grill (poolside dining) and Velvet Joe’s Coffee House (barista-crafted beverages, grab-and-go pastries, sandwiches, salads). “Our Mokara Spa is a sanctuary inspired by nearby creeks and waterways,” Christian states. “Guests, both resort and local, come to unwind in our relaxation lounge, rooftop pool and steam room before indulging in treatments to restore and recharge. From aromatherapy and hot stone massages to HydraFacials and restorative body treatments, everything we offer is curated to create a sophisticated, deeply soothing escape.” Christian says the Barton Creek team also hosts special events, such as weddings, open-air markets, live music, hands-on exhibits, thematic stays and acoustic performances with song writers. Every season brings something new to discover at Omni Barton Creek, Christian assures. This summer’s ‘Summer in the Hills’ series featured open-air vendor markets at Barton Fest, live music under the stars through Barton Creek Live and the debut of SMOKE: A Celebration of Fire & Flavor, which is a signature culinary event that brought together top barbecue talent from across Texas and Oklahoma. As the seasons shift, the resort transforms once again for Holiday in the Hills, a festive celebration where twinkling light trails, interactive snowfalls and cozy moments set the stage for magical winter memories. The resort’s located in Austin at 8212 Barton Club Drive, whether for two or a whole crew.

Doug Jensen, DDS, MS, is one of only a handful of doctors in North America with a dual specialty in both orthodontics and prosthodontics. He’s been practicing in the Frisco/McKinney area since 2007. “Each member of our team understands that orthodontics is more than just a smile shop to fix teeth. Each understands there is a human attached to those teeth and that orthodontics is a service business,” he says. “Orthodontics isn’t a commodity that gives the same results and service no matter where one gets it. We strive to optimize the process of crafting fine smiles so our patients feel like their time is well spent, and at each visit, they are well taken care of. We enjoy assisting everyone during their personalized, smile creations.” This dental office is located in McKinney at 3595 S. Custer Road, #200. 214.842.8106 JensenOrthodonticArts.com

SLM GENERAL CONTRACTORS & ROOFING TEAM AIMS TO DELIVER TOP-NOTCH, PERSONALIZED SERVICES ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON Through pristine designs, top-of-theline materials and superior customer service, a local construction and roofing company team gives clients confidence their projects will be completed to their satisfaction — even when dealing with common challenges, such as mold remediation, different exterior surfaces, roof rot and remodeling space constraints. Founded in 2014 by Sergio Maldonado, SLM General Contractors & Roofing LLC was launched with the desire to revolutionize the industry by providing exceptional training, strong leadership and unparalleled customer service. “If you’re ready to transform your home or office with the latest trends, SLM is here to bring your vision to life,” says Sergio. SLM General Contractors & Roofing is a full-range construction company that offers residential and commercial services to Frisco, McKinney and surrounding areas. Sergio says he and his

team provide results designed to help clients achieve the space of their dreams. “While general maintenance will help preserve a home or a commercial space, major repairs and remodels will improve appearance, comfort, function and value,” he reminds. Regarding new projects, he says they assist clients with how to best blend modern conveniences, timeless designs, functionality, sustainability and style. He adds they’ve been working with clients to include eco-friendly materials, including reclaimed woods and energy-efficient windows; smart home
"OUR INSTALLATION PROCESSES ARE BUILT AROUND PRECISION AND CUSTOMERFOCUSED SERVICE." technology integrations with voice controls and better security upgrades; multifunctional spaces that double for storage, offices, hobbies and guest rooms; spa-inspired bathrooms with body jets and heated flooring; bold color palettes and statement designs for visual interest; and outdoor living enhancements as true extensions of homes. Adding home additions is a great way to increase the value of a house while also improving everyday life and living experiences, Sergio reminds. Types of functional and stylish home additions they offer include extra bedrooms, family rooms or playroom; sunrooms and
enclosures; seamlessly integrated second-story additions; garage conversions transformed into guest suites, home gyms or hobby rooms; as well as home offices. For renovation estimates, Sergio says it’s a free and professional pricing for less complex projects that require no design decisions or changes to layout or floor plan, such as flooring, painting, roofing, fences and gutters. “For projects that require more time and decisions to put together an estimate, we ask to be retained in the form of a pre-construction service agreement,” he states. A design agreement, he explains, is an agreement that clients will work
with SLM General Contractors and their design process. The SLM design agreement pertains strictly to the design, and provides a lump sum price for clients to minimize price overruns and surprise billing. This is followed by a discussion about the final project price before any contractual agreement for the actual construction phase full amount. “When the architectural design is done by our team at SLM General Contractors, we have a mutual agreement that we will be your builder,” he adds. Sergio assures that the company’s electrical, plumbing and HVAC contractors in Collin, Denton, Tarrant and Dallas counties are properly licensed and insured. “Our general liability has a total of $3 million in cover. It’s larger than average coverage, and is less affordable than most, but our belief is the customer should be at complete peace knowing they came to us.” He says they also provide a workmanship warranty for completing the construction process and final finishing. Sergio adds that the team takes time to listen to clients’ requests and concerns to make sure they are happy and satisfied with the results, working to build longterm relationships with every client. “We take pride in our work and want to be known as one of the best and top-rated contractors in town.” 469.844.2300 SLMGC.com

KRISTIN HIETT’S ONE-OF-A-KIND JEWELRY PIECES ARE ART TO WEAR
Kristin Hiett was never without a creative outlet. She painted. She wrote poetry. She played guitar. And for decades, while building a career in the corporate world, she quietly made jewelry. After retiring, she faced the question, “What now?” Today, Hiett is the artist behind B Stoned Jewelry, a line of handmade pieces crafted from natural stones, crystals, and metals. “You’re not buying this from a market where ten of the same thing are sold to every store,” Hiett says. “You’re getting something that’s handcrafted and designed. When someone buys a piece and loves it, it feels like a piece of my soul is out there in the world.” Each piece of jewelry is one-of-a-kind, an approach that, Hiett admits, isn’t always ideal for business. She’s lost sales because she won’t recreate designs. But to her, that’s CONTINUED > the point.
S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 5 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / F R I S C O
27
“I’m not doing mass production, I’m creating art,” Hiett says. When making a piece, she doesn’t draw out her designs. Instead, she works by feel, sifting through trays of natural gemstones and feeling their energy. “Each piece has to feel right,” Hiett says. “There’s energy in these stones. I know when something belongs.” “I just sit down and start,” she adds. “I might be working on three or four designs at once, jumping between them. It’s chaotic, but it works.” The style of her jewelry matches her personal style and is part bohemian, part rockand-roll—featuring opals, moonstone, pyrite and even meteorite, materials she says carry energy and, sometimes, emotional weight. Stones are everywhere in her home: in her kitchen, her office and even her bathroom. “When I find one that has a pull, I know I’m meant to have it,” she says. Running a small business solo has its challenges. Hiett does everything herself, from designing and photographing pieces to updating her website and fulfilling orders. She sells her art through her website and several Dallas-area boutiques, splitting profits with store owners to gain shelf space and exposure. Her jewelry ranges in price depending on the stones and metal used, but has an average price tag of $65 to $350. Though for Hiett, it’s not about the money. “It’s not about getting rich,” Hiett says. “I want to create and share something meaningful. My passion is that every woman, and every guy, feels beautiful and loved at one point or another.” Currently, shoppers can find B Stoned Jewelry at boutiques around Plano and Frisco, including The Style Concierge, Skypony Gallery, Unique World, Stones for Daze, Estilo Concept Store, or online at BStonedNow.com.

LIVING STYLE THE INTERSECTION OF FASHION AND HOME
30
FASH ION F OR WA R D | STYLE + BE AU T Y
ARTICLE BY TYLER AMADEUS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ADRIEN KING AND ALEC WALWORTH
IN
this unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression. As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors. Although we tend to consider cost-per-wear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture
for the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space. The woman who wears a blazer with sharp shoulders that makes her feel powerful in her everyday life—or the black dress that gives her a necessary boost of confidence—may naturally gravitate toward sleek, modern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives. In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble— like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans— may also look for home pieces that are functional and make their guests feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory. CONTINUED >

Just as we carefully choose outfits to express ourselves, it’s equally important to ensure that our living spaces are designed with the same intention. More than ever, modern buyers are making purchasing decisions based on personal morals and values, forming a new wave of consumers who seek products that are both high-quality and environmentally or socially conscious, whether for themselves or their homes. The following imagery affirms that living a timeless lifestyle across all aspects of life is possible through the thoughtful styling of sustainable clothing and vintage furniture. As the modern retail landscape continues to evolve, it’s become increasingly vital to make conscious consumer choices—ones that allow us to express our truest selves through both our wardrobes and the places we call home.
