If you've been to any local Frisco events in the last couple of years, or tuned in this year to the American Idol competition, then you probably know our featured artist, Ron Bultongez. He made it to American Idol's Top 24; quite an accomplishment! Ron's road to success is an inspiration to all. It didn't come without trials, tribulations and hard work. THE TOP 24 CONTESTANTS THIS YEAR, OR EVEN AROUND NUMEROUS VENUES HERE IN FRISCO PERFORMING BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. Of course I'm talking about Ron Bultongez! I had a chance to ask Ron some questions about his path to stardom.

K.A.: First of all, can you tell me a little bit about your background. Where are you from?

R.B.: I actually was born overseas in Congo. I came to the United

States along with my Mother and siblings at the age of ten. I have spent the majority of my years here in Plano, Texas. K.A.: What gave you the passion for music?

R.B.: Many people might find this surprising, but I actually was never that person who knew they would always be in music. It was

never an initial dream of mine, more like a course in life I took on by

starting with small singing gigs, and the rest just unfolded. It was more like music found me, rather than me finding it.

K.A.: That's an interesting take on it. Talk about your experience on American Idol - what was that like? Was there anything about that once in a lifetime experience that surprised you the most?

R.B.: It was an overall very positive, and surreal experience.

Being able to meet some of the artists that I've been inspired by, be it meeting the judges, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan or the other star singers they had us collaborate with including Colbie Caillat and Andy Grammar was a surreal experience I will never forget. I think what surprised me the most about the overall experience with the show was recognizing what the viewers at home really don't see or understand about the show, which is how much production it takes to make the show work. The number

of moving parts and people was astounding to me. Each contestant is surrounded with assistants, sound people, lighting team, choreographers, on and on. It made my appreciation of just being there that much greater.

K.A.: What is the biggest piece of advice you would give artists wanting to make it into the industry? R.B.: The number one rule I would tell aspiring artists is to just be the artist you want to be. Create quality work, work very hard, have a supportive team of people to not only back you up, but to keep you grounded. In this industry you quickly realize that what works for one artist's success may not work for your own. Every single musician has their own path to pave their way to stardom. It took me two and a half years to get where I am today; this time frame moved quicker for me due to being on a national television show. I have to pinch myself daily to think where I was a mere year ago, compared to where I am today. Always keep your eyes and ears open for chances to show your craft. Networking goes a long way. K.A.: That's certainly great advice. Last question, can you explain some of your immediate future goals? R.B.: I am at the moment trying to align myself with some great brands. I am planning to release an EP Album late summer or Early Fall 2018. I am also planning to start touring this Fall. It's been an exciting road and I look very forward to seeing what is ahead and meeting my fans along the way. Frisco is behind you, Ron! We wish you the best in your music career!

Along with his business knowledge, he also has leadership skills, discipline and problem solving methods he gained from his thirteen years in the Army. K.A.: What did being in the Army mean to you? J.K.: Joining the Army changed everything for me. I was attending community college in California and had no money, no car, and was sharing a small four-bedroom house with three other people. It was 1982, the economy was still a mess and it was tough to find a good part-time job. I remember walking to the fire station to get a block of government cheese, and thinking, this needs to change! I joined the Army that week and never looked back. I learned a lot and was initially assigned to an aviation unit to work on helicopter weapons systems before applying for a security clearance with military intelligence. I served as a counterintelligence agent for nearly ten years and loved it! I was stationed in Korea in 1987, just before the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics; and was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. I was assigned to Fort Meade during my final years of service, provided support to the Special Operations Task Force, and traveled to various parts of the world before leaving the Army after thirteen years. I’m proud of my service to my country, and am proud to be serving my community. K.A.: How have you applied what you learned in the Army with your life today?
