The holidays are here and as the spirit of the season is among us, we often try to replicate what made the season feel so magical to us in our youth. The traditions we set for our own families often mirror some of what we experienced as a child, whether it's the smells, the sounds, the lights, the holiday activities or a combination of it all that reflect that best. Big Bluestem Trail Opens In Frisco Frisco city officials introduced residents to the multiyear Grand Park project by opening Big Bluestem Trail, with the trailhead located off Cotton Gin Road, between Dallas Parkway and Legacy Drive. Big Bluestem Trail is a natural, unpaved trail that winds through undeveloped land, extending through Grand Park to Stonebrook Parkway. Calling All ‘Tech Stars' UNT at Frisco launched a new program for students interested in a career in the technology industry. The college is offering a four-year bachelor’s degree in Industrial Distribution, as a blend of business and engineering. After completing the program, students can earn their master’s degree in business administration at the Frisco campus in as little as one year. Frisco Library Construction May Close As New Year Begins The new Frisco Public Library, located at 8000 Dallas Parkway, is projected to complete construction in early 2023, perhaps January, says Frisco Library Director Shelley Holley. “Unusual circumstances,” such as shipping shortages pushed the completion date back, she adds. Once construction's complete, library staffers will take five to six weeks to transition to the new building, Shelley says. DIY Gift Wrapping That Stands Out During The Season

'Tis the season to get crafty, clever or characterized! Well-wrapped holiday packages create immediate enthusiasm and somehow seem to make gifts more meaningful. Whether going for shiny, vintage, colorful, rustic, playful or eco-friendly impressions, the following are some Do-It-Yourself gift-wrapping ideas to make the wrapping process even more satisfying. Simply applying jute twine to gifts provides a 'less is more' vibe. Add Natural Touches to Craft Paper: For gifts with a rustic, organic feel, use seasonal accents, such as sprigs, pine cones and cinnamon sticks, tied up with twine, encircling recycled paper for the wrapping. First Initial Decoration: In lieu of a gift tag, attach an oversized paper mâché letter of the recipient's first initial to the top of the box. The letter then can serve as customized décor, too. Polka Dots: Wrap gifts in plain craft paper and then cut out big, multicolored polka dots to glue down. It's hard not to smile at big, bright dots. Cardboard Box Snowperson: Wrap three or four boxes in white paper, with different gifts inside, and then stack them. Tape the boxes together, tapering to the top. Glue buttons on the bottom ones, create a snowperson's face on the top one, with carrot nose cut out of orange paper. Attach a real hat, if desired. Tie wider, festive bow around the snowperson's 'neck.' Add a real corncob pipe for a bonus finishing touch, if preferred.

Mini Tree Gift Wrapping: Pine needles and small tips of real tree branches make quick and easy mini Christmas trees that can be glued onto Christmas gifts. They will smell nice, too. Book Page Wrapping Paper: Repurpose old book pages by cutting out shapes of dreidels, snowflakes, ornaments, candles or reindeer to paste on gifts. DIY Stamp Wrapping Paper: Wrap gifts in solid colors of paper. Secure ink stamps and an ink pad in a themed color(s), and stamp the paper as much or as little as desired. Unboxed: Apply other types of containers, rather than boxes or bags, for gift wrapping; examples: canisters, pillow cases, baskets, fabric scraps, maps, glass containers, towels, blankets, scarves, Bento bags (also called triangle bags or origami bags). For stylized, different gift tags, consider stopping by one of two J's Hallmark Shop locations in Frisco: Preston Stonebrook Center, 7151 Preston Road, Suite 211, or Main Street Village, 3245 Main St., Suite 289. To create a truly different type of gift container, consider checking out a DIY class being held on Dec. 4 at AR Workshop Frisco at 3231 Prestion Road, Suite 13. From 3-6 p.m., participants will make one of several wood projects, any of which can become a unique vessel for presenting a gift: plank wood sign, porch sign, bath tray, round lazy susan, centerpiece box, plank wood tray, cake stand, pedestal tray or wood photo frame. Frisco Property Tax Rate Remains Same FY23 BUDGET INCLUDES INCREASES IN SOME CITY SERVICES
For the sixth consecutive year, Frisco’s property tax rate will stay the same at 0.4466. The FY23 budget, which went into effect Oct. 1, also provides Frisco homeowners a 12.5% homestead exemption and a senior ‘tax freeze’ for homeowners, 65 and older. The city’s wholesale water supplier, the North Texas Municipal Water District is increasing its rates by 13.4%. Anita Cothran, Frisco's chief financial officer, states increases will be passed on to residents. Residential rates will increase by 10% for water and 3% for sewer. Stormwater rates won't change. Customers will pay $4 more per trash/recycling cart, per month. A total of 48% of the city’s budget reportedly is dedicated to public safety. The new budget funds remodeling/expanding Police and Public Works Departments, and completes construction of the new Frisco Public Library.

Her Plano-based firm with five professionals was established in 2020 to be a "helpful" law practice. In college, Sarah double-majored in philosophy, which she believes enhances the perspectives she's able to merge into client situations. "Many law school classmates had to learn to think like a lawyer for the first time. Through philosophy, however, my brain was already trained to think about how to find a needle in a haystack and the five ways to get it out. I think that training helps me still automatically look at situations through different, beneficial lenses," she adds. Part of how she and her team go about tailoring legal representation to each client's needs is by applying outside-of-the-box concepts and being creative on a case-by-case basis. "In consults, we end with questions about clients' biggest fears and biggest wants, so we can address those individual aspects. As a native Texan, Sarah embodies famed Lone Star qualities: 'Basically America, but turned up to 11.' In fact, Sarah says she has three ancestors who were in the industrious, original 'Old Three Hundred' settlers of the Mexican Texas colony. "Nowhere else seems to compare to Texas. Anywhere you go here, it's a small-town vibe, especially regarding how respectfully we treat each other. That courtesy extends throughout the local legal community as well," she says. Although Sarah doesn't have much time for hobbies, except for reading and running, she says she adores doing creative activities and crafts with her 8-year-old daughter, Vivienne. Her recent wedding also makes her smile with joy. Her favorite form of inspiration is music. She attended college on a scholarship for classical piano and currently is a lead vocalist for modern worship services at First United Methodist Church Plano. "Music is wonderful to draw from. I even created playlists to listen to before I go to trial," she says. As 2022 draws to a close, Sarah says she's extremely grateful for the trustworthy, client-focused and remote-based law firm she's built with its happy 'familial' team and healthy work/life balance. The sense of family related to respect and kindness, both internally and for clients, is of utmost importance to her. "When I was able to launch my own firm, I wanted to address all the hurdles in the legal and business community that I personally was faced with when I came out of law school," recalls Sarah. So, she says she was thrilled to be able to provide paid maternity/parental leave to an employee this year. "We also conclude our work each week at 2 p.m., because some of our team have family members or locations in other Texan cities to get to on weekends. And we have team awards once a month. For those, team members get to decide where we go to celebrate or how we'll observe the awards -- and if someone wants to bring their plus-one or children, they're all welcome." Equally important to staffers' overall happiness, productivity and abilities to provide maximum client service, Sarah says the firm's team ensures that prospective clients are good fits. "The team isn't pressured to take on every potential client. We strive to be super comfortable with each situation we assist with, and that requires honest, open relationships. INGREDIENTS 1 cup salt of choice (Himalayan pink salt is good choice, but any salt will do) 1/4 to 1/2 cup parsley (add more if using fresh herbs) 2 tablespoons dried basil (or 1/4 cup if using fresh) 1 tablespoon oregano 1 tablespoon lemon zest 1 garlic clove minced

INSTRUCTIONS Add fresh parsley, garlic, lemon zest and a little bit of salt to the blender or food processor. Mix for 10 seconds. Add additional ingredients and blend again. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pour salt mixture on sheet, evenly spread. Set in a cool oven overnight to dry. Pour salt into a container of choice and enjoy for various kinds of meals.

Giving Campaign Now in its third year, the City Lifestyle Giving Campaign will give away $300,000 this holiday season to help individual community members who would benefit from a helping hand during their time of need. But they need YOUR HELP to make it happen! Maybe you know of a single parent struggling to provide, an elderly person who has experienced loss, a child enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need—even if nobody else does. To preserve and protect the dignity of every recipient, the City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is completely confidential. No identities will be revealed or publicized in ANY way. (Even those who nominate others may remain anonymous if they choose.) Last year, City Lifestyle was able to give to more than 70 recipients all over the country by sending checks in the mail through New Year’s Eve. (This year, the goal is to double that number with checks ranging in amount up to $3,000 each.) Roasted Fig and Goat Cheese with Honey Figs are high in fiber which promotes cardiovascular health. Figs contain high levels of protein, vitamins and essential minerals and are rich in potassium, which plays an important role in regulating blood pressure. The calcium in figs is more easily digested than in other foods, so it is good for your bones and teeth as well.

1. Preheat oven to 400ºF. 2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan, along with the balsamic vinegar, honey, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook about 5 minutes, or until slightly thickened. 3. Place the figs, cut side up, in a baking dish. Top each fig half with a 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of goat cheese. Drizzle the balsamic vinegar syrup over the figs. 4. Roast in the oven until very soft, 10 to 15 minutes. 5. Arrange on a platter and sprinkle with flaky salt.
