One of the great paradoxes in life is the difference between what is real and what is imagined, because our reality is skewed by our experience and perception. This very complex combination is what inspires my artwork. As a modern-impressionist, I may not be concerned with painting the details of realism but I am turned on by the meaning behind the colors, brushstrokes, and representation of light. I find this allows the imagination to interpret my content. It is this action of viewing my art that makes it wonderful, not a study; I’ll sacrifice the finer details to real life. ON THE COVER OF OUR JUNE ISSUE WAS AN ADORABLE CORGI NAMED MARTY. Many Frisco Life readers wanted to know more about this friendly and compassionate pup. Marty’s human is Allan Joseph Cribbins III, MD, a board-certified general and bariatric surgeon. Together Marty and Joe have changed many people’s lives for the better. Marty is two years old. He struggles with controlling how much he eats and is some what hyperactive. During the 2020 pandemic he was beginning to get on his other canine siblings’ nerves. Dr. Cribbins thought it would be best to take him to the office because no patients were coming in person at that time. The Cribbins soon realized that Marty had found his home away from home. As patients began coming back for in-person appointments, the staff observed Marty following the patients to their rooms. If one of the clients had anxiety and needed more compassion, Marty wouldn’t leave their side and knew them when they returned for another visit. Marty was soon given the title, “My Spirit Dog,” by his patient friends. Dr. Cribbins realized many of his patients viewed Marty as a therapy dog and soon Marty was actually having patients come in to spend time with him. Marty was recently invited to his first Bariatrics Society Event Retreat in San Diego. He also will be attending a slumber party while there.

DON’T GIVE UP Parents often assume that if a child doesn’t eat a food the first or second time it’s served, the child doesn’t like the food. Many children may need to see or taste a food 10 or 20 times before they are willing to eat it. FORCING HEALTHY FOODS ON KIDS OFTEN BACKFIRES Often, making a child eat food or eat a certain amount of food backfires. + 8 ounces whole wheat (or regular) linguine + 3 tablespoons oil + 4 cloves garlic, chopped + 1 cup canned tomato, chopped + 1 (15 ounce) can of chickpeas, drained + 1 teaspoon dried oregano

1. In medium-sized pot, bring water to boil. Cook whole wheat linguine according to instructions. 2. In large pan, heat up oil. Once heated, add chopped garlic. Cook until lightly browned. 3. Add tomato, chickpeas, oregano, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Bring to simmer.

4. Add spinach and cook until wilted. 5. Strain linguine and add to pan; stir well to incorporate. 6. Remove from heat and enjoy!
