November is our Thankful edition and while there are so many people, places and things we could direct our gratitude towards, it quickly became evident that a focus on nonprofits would be particularly fitting. They are the heartbeat of our community. Kristen Wojdan, Founder & Editor of Frederick Lifestyle, lives by the motto “Give first, Serve always.” I’ve seen the impact firsthand of Kristen and her family living with this kind of intentionality and the difference it not only makes in the lives of others, but their own lives as well. Many of you are likely familiar with the famous Bible verse in Acts 20:35 that says it’s better to give than to receive. I believe there’s real truth in that. Scientists have actually studied this theory and have found that something in us changes for the better when we put the needs of others above our own. Stress decreases, joy increases. You don’t have to look very far to know Frederick is deeply committed to caring for one another and we think that’s something to celebrate. We have the unique privilege of connecting with numerous organizations and groups who are on mission to give first and serve always, no matter the sacrifice. We constantly find ourselves humbled and amazed. It is our joy to shine the spotlight on some of these deserving people and nonprofits in our Thankful edition. Whether it’s the heartfelt mission behind Mission of Mercy, impactful Q&A’s with local legacy leaders, a purpose-driven surgeon or new and familiar suggestions on where to consider your end-of-year giving, we trust you will feel a deeper sense of appreciation for those around you. Julie Gaver hosted Soles of Love in the Garden’s 13th year of collecting new shoes for local children in need at the beautiful Rockland Estates in FairPlay, Maryland in August 2023. Guests arrived in their best “Puttin’ on the Glitz” bling and sparkly to create a festive and fun event. If you listen close enough, you may hear a call that will change your life. For Dr. Michael Sullivan, the call from Our Lady, the Virgin Mary, happened in 1991, when he and his pharmacist wife, Dr. Gianna Talone Sullivan, were moved to give up the security of their careers and find a way to provide healthcare to those who could not afford it in the form of mobile medical and dental units, which they named Mission of Mercy. “Through Mission of Mercy, patients are guaranteed to receive quality healthcare...We attribute that to all of the well-trained volunteers we have at each site.” - Linda Ryan, Executive Director at Mission of Mercy “I knew this was a special calling and I was anxious to respond,” said Dr. Sullivan. After serving in the United States Navy, Dr. Sullivan worked in conventional medicine, including 13 years with Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania. During this time, he recalled, he witnessed a change in the way medicine was being practiced. “Around 1990, I saw a shift that was linked more toward business and politics in medicine, as opposed to a mission to help patients. In turn, my quality time with patients was being impacted,” Dr. Sullivan explained, noting this was why the call from Our Lady was crucial for him to answer. Both doctors left their careers, bought an RV, and created a traveling healthcare unit with a mission to “restore dignity and heal through love”. What the medical duo was not expecting was the tremendous need for this type of traveling healthcare. “Thirty years ago we didn’t have all the social programs we have now, but there continues to still be a need in our society to help those who cannot afford medical care or medicines,” said Jennifer White, Development Director at Mission of Mercy for 26 years. Medical bills, unemployment, prolonged sickness, family and personal issues, loss of medical insurance, language barriers, daily trials and events beyond one’s control can all have a devastating and lasting impact on a person’s well-being. Over time, patients feel beaten by the system and many may choose to forgo medical care; instead, suffering in silence because they simply cannot afford the services they so desperately need. According to the 2023 ALICE report collected by the United Way of Maryland and the United Way of Central Maryland, “Of the 2.3 million households in Maryland, 38% have income below the ALICE Threshold of Financial Survival in 2021. These included both households in poverty and ALICE households.” In addition, more than 29 million non-elderly Americans are without health insurance, according
to the 2021 CDC National Health Interview Survey, which also noted that 1 in 5 American adults do not have health insurance because of the costs, making families choose between healthcare, dental care, medications and basic necessities. Since 1994, the non-profit organization Mission of Mercy has provided over 222,000 free doctor visits, over 22,000 free dental visits and dispensed more than 442,000 free medications. The mobile units visit throughout the month in Frederick, Brunswick, Taneytown, Reisterstown, Gettysburg and Harrisburg. The organization has been nationally recognized, receiving the Gold Standard Award from The National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics and the 4-Star Charity Navigator Award. All of this is without any government funding. Instead, Mission of Mercy relies on the support of foundations, corporations, churches, civic groups and individuals. “Usually when we need something, it seems to find its way to us,” said Dr. Sullivan. “Even though there are times God keeps us sweating until the last possible minute, He always pulls through.” In order to serve as many patients as they could, the doctors first sought out family members who were also moved to follow the call. In addition, Michael and Gianna recruited hospitals for testing and churches for a location to park the RV and conduct medical care. Before long, volunteers in the shape of highly trained doctors, nurses and other medical staff stepped forward to donate their services and expertise. Today there are about 150 licensed medical and non-medical volunteers at the Maryland and Pennsylvania sites, including: retired and actively practicing licensed physicians, physicians’ assistants, dentists, dental assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, physical therapists and other health-related professions. Non-medical volunteers serve as registration workers, interpreters and clinic drivers for both the medical and dental clinics.

We enjoy helping,” said David Keller, who volunteered with his wife, Karen, after seeing an ad in their church bulletin five years ago. “Volunteers can reach out and tell us in what ways they would like to volunteer,” Dr. Sullivan explained. “Here, many feel the initial motivation of why they decided to practice medicine in the first place. Serving with Mission of Mercy is often more pure and more rewarding than practicing in a bigger medical establishment.” What started as a one-RV initiative has grown to include two mobile units. One mobile unit is used for medical, general-practitioner type appointments. This is where patients are seen for check-ups, evaluations, advice on medications and insights on how to treat chronic illnesses. The other mobile unit houses the dental care facility, which includes three dentist chairs and stations inside to provide services such as x-rays, fillings and extractions. With appointments offered from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., each site serves about 50-60 medical patients per day and about 10-12 dental patients per day. “Through Mission of Mercy, patients are guaranteed to receive quality healthcare,” said Executive Director Linda Ryan, who has been with the nonprofit organization for 30 years. “We attribute that to all of the well-trained, professional volunteers we have at each site.” “People come expecting medical attention, they leave knowing they received the best care they can receive,” said Dave Crome, a four-year volunteer. Upon evaluation, patients may be referred for further testing, treatment or medication. Some local hospitals offer free services and sometimes free surgeries for patients seen at Mission of Mercy as an extension of the organization’s vision to make compassionate care available at no cost to those who seek treatment. The outreach extends into the community with Frederick Health providing x-rays, labs and bone density screenings. The Maryland Food Bank provides fresh, nutritious food to the Frederick site and the Department of Health provides free HIV testing,

Narcan training and information about free mammograms and colonoscopies. “We might ask a specialist if they can accept one patient for us per year as a way of giving back,” explained Linda Ryan, noting that Mercy Hospital provides up to 12 surgeries per year. “That causes a ripple effect—one act of giving back may be the catalyst for another act.” “This is how medicine should be practiced,” agreed Sandi Cadigan, RN, Director of Nursing at Mission of Mercy. “There is a holistic, patient-centered focus here. We take care of the whole person, not just the illness. It’s all about who they are and how they are doing in the entirety of their lives. We look at various factors to see how we can help them the most.” Treating the whole person not only includes diagnosis and treatment, said Dr. Sullivan, it reaches far beyond that to include their overall well-being and way of life. Faith is an integral part of Mission of Mercy, as each day starts with a non-denominational prayer circle before appointments begin. “It’s amazing to see people really get along here. It’s not about background, religion, economic status or race. We are open about our faith and sometimes that’s what we all need to help each other heal,” said Sandi Cadigan, who noted the importance of building relationships when helping patients. “We see our Lord in every person we talk to,” said Dr. Sullivan. “Many times there is a crack in their armor for God to get in. That’s what I try to help them with in addition to healing their medical needs.” Each patient receives a copy of the Surrender Prayer from Dr. Sullivan, which he asks them to focus on for one month and then return to tell him if they have been impacted by it. “Often patients come to me and they are angry about their illness or their pain, within two to three visits they are thankful and feeling better. That’s God’s part. Those are the miracles I am able to witness through this endeavor. Those are the miracles that keep me coming back day after day.” AMissionOfMercy.org

Giving back is clearly a core value in Frederick County. Countless citizens volunteer, donate and serve in a variety of ways to make our community a better place for everyone. We enjoyed our time with six inspirational leaders who shared about their growing up years in Frederick and their passion for serving the community in which they grew up!
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? My family moved to Ijamsville from Germantown when I was in pre-school.
WHAT WAS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT GROWING UP HERE? I loved going to the Frederick Fair and continue the tradition with my children and husband.

Ausherman Family Foundation is a private foundation focused on making Frederick a thriving community of vibrant spaces and places, with a superior quality of life and strong and collaborative nonprofit organizations. Our mission is to empower the passion for change in Frederick County, Maryland. At the Foundation, I oversee all aspects of the grantmaking, community benefit projects and network facilitation. I have a wonderful team around me that is constantly doing amazing things in and for the community.

I do a lot of listening and asking questions. Through my job, I often learn of needs in our community and have the privilege of connecting nonprofits and people for the greater good; sometimes, I feel like a matchmaker. Once a resource or partnership presents itself, my mind is constantly racing with how we can (as a community) have a more substantial impact. In recent years, we have connected community stakeholders more largely through forming collective impact networks to tackle big problems holistically. Ensuring that all voices are heard, and the people closest to the issues are informing the solutions is the key to creating meaningful change.
WHAT DO YOU WANT READERS TO KNOW ABOUT THE AUSHERMAN FAMILY FOUNDATION? The foundation is involved in such an array of different projects, I am always learning new things, meeting new people and diving into new worlds seeing how we can help. Sometimes I look at the community as a big puzzle and become fascinated with linking the pieces together. One of the best parts about my job is working with the amazing people who run our communities’ nonprofits. They are the real MVPs, the ones who run towards the things that are hard to face and tackle them head on. It takes a special person to do that type of work and Frederick has the best of the best. It’s my privilege to support them in their work.
WHAT DO YOU WANT READERS TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? I love to laugh, travel and try new things. Hunting for seashells is probably my favorite thing to do. As a working mother of three little ones, I have a lot of balls in the air. I do my best to keep them all up, but sometimes I feel like a master juggler!
WHAT QUESTION DID YOU WANT TO ANSWER? This made me think back as a kid about some of the things I vividly remember. I worked at Jimmie Cone, serving soft serve ice cream to the summer crowds. I loved going ice and roller skating at Skate Frederick and the Roller Rink. When Carroll Creek was renovated, I remember going to one of the first Festival of the Arts with my grandmother and being so amazed by the Community Bridge. As a kid, I remember constantly hearing the car races at the 75 and 80 dragstrip and going with my dad to cheer on the “funny cars.” These are just a few memories that make me smile. WHAT IS THE MISSION OF WHOLE HEART? Whole Heart’s mission is to help people who are grieving both death and life to address their total health and wellness. We accomplish this via workshops, tools and coaching that produce wholehearted personal, professional and community transformation.
WHY IS WHOLE HEART IMPORTANT TO YOU? Whole Heart provides the personalized, nonjudgmental and meaningful help I needed when I was at my lowest. At the same time, we also help people when they have all of the trappings of success but none of the peace, which is something I’ve also needed at times. Helping others allows me to give back to a community that’s given so much to me!

Whole Heart helps people deal with their pain, regardless of their ability to pay because we know that when one person in the family or community heals, it opens the door for many others to do the same. That also means that our funds are limited. So we invite people to be part of this community transformation via donations and volunteering.
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? I was born and raised in Frederick County. My first 8 years, I lived on Bentz St. in Frederick City and then moved to Mount Airy and lived there until I graduated college. After graduation, I moved back to Frederick City and was there until 5 years ago when I moved to Adamstown.
WHAT WAS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT GROWING UP HERE? My favorite thing about Frederick is that I was surrounded by so much family. My mom always emphasized that when you had nothing else, you’d always have family. I also loved that Frederick was a place where you could make a difference. Community service was something my father instilled in me. In fact, when I was 23 years old, a group of friends, family members and I

This community is part of my diversity, and it has shaped me in both painful and powerful ways. WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? My parents moved to Frederick County the summer between 1st and 2nd grade. I spent most of my childhood living outside of Libertytown.
WHAT WAS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT GROWING UP HERE? The rural nature of Frederick County (at least until I was a teenager!). I didn’t live in a neighborhood, but there were other kids who lived nearby. I loved spending summers outside playing games with totally made-up rules and lots of “redos” during the day and going back outside at night to catch fireflies.
WHAT IS THE MISSION OF MHA? Building a strong foundation of emotional wellness for the whole community by preparing resilient children, securing vulnerable families and facing crises together.

There’s much more to MHA than that. In fact, before I started working here, I was a client of MHA. I was teaching in an early learning center and took professional development courses through MHA’s Child Care Choices program. We welcome the opportunity to talk with community members about our services through the tours we hold throughout the year.
WHAT DO YOU WANT READERS TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? I’m a diehard introvert masquerading by day as an extrovert. Because of that, it takes some time to get to know me. Once you do, you’ll find I have a wickedly dry sense of humor.
WHAT QUESTION DID YOU WANT TO ANSWER? What is your favorite question to ask a candidate in an interview? Which do you prefer—dark chocolate or milk chocolate? I tend to ask this about three questions in. I use it to put a candidate at ease. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT THE WORK YOU DO? Working with the youth keeps me from the people and places that once made my life unmanageable. The ability to help these young men stay away from the lifestyle that I gravitated toward and get them on pathways to a positive and productive future is priceless.
WHAT DO YOU WANT READERS TO KNOW ABOUT I BELIEVE IN ME? Our organization provides an after school mentoring program that allows youth an opportunity for safe spaces after school and on weekends; where youth are provided with educational support, mentoring services, mental health therapists, nutrition, hygiene products and various incentives for positive behaviors and growth/development—all while helping build strong and supportive families and including all stakeholders on their pathway to a positive and productive future. All of these services are free of cost to the family as we do not want to create any economic barriers to prevent families from seeking services to empower their child; especially since 91% of our families are considered ALICE.

WHAT WAS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT GROWING UP HERE? The community. Frederick has always been a great place to live due to the kindness and love displayed by those living here. Growing up, you not only had your immediate family; you had your church family, your sports family and those in the neighborhood that you could always rely on and feel safe with.
WHAT IS THE MISSION OF I BELIEVE IN ME? Aim to inspire and challenge youth through mental, physical and social activities that foster self respect and respect for the world around them.
WHY IS THIS ORGANIZATION IMPORTANT TO YOU? This organization is important to me because it gives me the opportunity to right the wrongs I committed in my past, to create a legacy for myself and my daughter and to remind people that tomorrow provides opportunity to be better
What others may often perceive as a failure or a mistake, I perceive it as a gift. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn from and grow to become a better man, father and community member. While I may not always be receptive to these mistakes in the beginning; the growth that comes from them has made me the man I am today; still learning and developing the man I want to be remembered as.
WHAT QUESTION DID YOU WANT TO ANSWER? What is a recent success for your organization? We recently opened up our Activity Center on Gas House Pike in July of this year. This activity center provides youth with a safe space, meeting the youth directly where they are. Some features of this activity center include: computer lab to assist youth with their educational needs, podcast room to provide youth a voice for their struggles and triumphs, a one-on-one mentoring room filled with fun and relaxing games, a theater room that allows youth to watch movies and play video games in a group setting and an indoor gym. How can someone help your organization? We are asking the Frederick community to unite together and provide a minimal monthly donation to cover the costs of the activity center and mentoring program in order to keep it free for all families involved. If we unite together, our minimal donations can add up to have a large impact on the youth of tomorrow. WHAT WAS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT GROWING UP HERE? The people. The connections. The quaintness of small towns, and the vastness of the countryside—mountains, streams, farms and cows. The snowstorms. We had the best snowstorms that took us out of school for days because we lived out in the “country”… and the plows never made it to Loch Haven. I loved coming to the “city”

Heritage Frederick operates and maintains: the 200 year old house at 24 East Church Street called the Museum of Frederick County History, the Frederick County Preservation Center, the Frederick County Historic Research and Archive Center and the Heritage Garden. We’ve been in existence for 130 years and over that time, the people of Frederick have entrusted us to be the repository for over 9,600 objects, and over 200,000 pieces of paper, books, ledgers and maps. Our collection is the most complete and comprehensive collection of Frederick County artifacts in existence. Our collection contains story-rich artifacts associated with the people, places and events in Frederick County, a crossroads of American history. The collection ranges in time from 10,000-year-old archaeological artifacts to George Washington’s hair, and 200 year old wedding dresses and quilts...We offer educational opportunities, such as walking tours, speaker series, events and exhibits. We partner with schools to provide walking tours for students. And, we offer community events in the garden, like the Patio Music Series, Ice Cream Socials and Frosty Friday—good old-fashioned holiday crafts and games.

one could have on a person—you saw it in this little five-yearold boy. He is no longer with us because he didn’t receive the one thing that could have saved his life. He would want us to see that others are safe, knowing they are not in harm’s way. Saving others’ lives leaves his footprint as we provide every influenza vaccine, disinfectant and mask. He is with us, and me. This helps us get through the grief in a way we could never describe.
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? My birthplace is York, PA. I became a permanent resident of Frederick County at the age of six months.
WHAT WAS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT GROWING UP HERE? There was a level of trust, respect, and understanding. As children, we would go out and ride our bicycles having to return when the lights came on. If we did something wrong we knew we wouldn’t get away with it due to the level of respect amongst neighbors or parents overseeing us as their own. We have this level of trust, respect and understanding in different forms that no one else has developed—our programs, our non-profits and people in the community. This makes Frederick unlike any other.
WHAT IS THE MISSION OF LOVE FOR LOCHLIN? To educate, prevent and drive awareness to the deadly impacts of infectious diseases such as Influenza (“the Flu”). Providing the resources, knowledge and ability to help our community prevent these infectious diseases through proven and ethical practices. Working diligently to prevent anyone from experiencing the pain that our family has felt from a vaccinable disease.
WHY IS THIS ORGANIZATION IMPORTANT TO YOU? Lochlin gained his wings eight days before his 6th birthday. There was so much that he wanted to do in life. The impact
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT THE WORK YOU DO? The lives we impact...Knowing we have provided over 3,000 vaccines and over one thousand of these were given to those who are receiving a flu vaccine for the first time! It is important for me to remove the barriers for those in our community to provide the best care possible, and sharing the love our son had for the community at the same time.
WHAT DO YOU WANT READERS TO KNOW ABOUT LOVE FOR LOCHLIN? Our son was taken from us. It could have been prevented. By a vaccine. By early intervention. Every evening I sit, reflecting on how our clinic went. Those who I met. Who our nurses met. I want to see that those who come to see us know that we are there for them and nothing more. Our focus is on that patron and seeing that we change their life for the better. We are the only recognized non-profit sepsis advocate and mobile unit offering free influenza vaccination in Maryland. We have recently won the Erin Flatley Kindness Award from the Sepsis Alliance. Our community is everything!

Frederick County is moving! As one of Maryland’s fastest-growing counties—and as we keep moving—it’s important to prioritize the health and wellness of our diverse, growing community. Keeping with this theme, and because November is a month to give thanks, let’s spotlight the people and resources that help keep our community moving. Quite literally, orthopedic surgeons keep us moving. Orthopedics is a medical specialty that focuses on treating the musculoskeletal system, which includes your bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons. Orthopedic surgeons treat a wide range of conditions from arthritis to dislocated joints to hip and back pain. They aim to reduce pain and enhance mobility, in order to help you to get back to the activities you love as soon as possible, whether it’s biking along the C&O Canal or taking a walk through Baker Park.
This is one of the reasons why Dr. Therlinsie Fleurizard decided to specialize in orthopedics. “I became very interested in orthopedics after seeing how it can change people’s lives for the better,” she says. “In many medical fields, it’s hard to pinpoint a disease and then automatically have a treatment for it. With orthopedics, you can see the disease firsthand and offer a treatment that can effectively alleviate what the patient is experiencing.” Dr. Fleurizard is distinguished as 1 of 8 fellowship-trained Black women in the country who performs joint replacement or joint reconstruction surgery. She learned from Dr. Martin Roche, her fellowship director, source of inspiration and world-renowned orthopedic leader who performed the world’s first-ever sensor-assisted and robotic-assisted knee surgery. After completing her residency at Howard University, Dr. Fleurizard

Dr. Fleurizard practices at Frederick Health Medical Group Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Frederick. She is part of a team of board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic experts focused on high-quality, patient-centered orthopedic care backed by the latest medical technologies. Patient-centered care means a focus on you (the patient) rather than your condition and the reciprocal relationship between you and your provider. When making an appointment with an orthopedic specialist at Frederick Health you can expect a collaborative patient journey that starts with a conversation based around you—your concerns, your needs and your treatment goals. As a patient, you are fully aware of what is going on, what your exam will entail and, most importantly, your treatment options. “As a patient under our care, you’ll leave each appointment very informed about your diagnosis and treatment options so that you can make the best decisions for you,” says Dr. Fleurizard. “You (the patient) need to be included in your care management and that’s how our practice runs. We’re making decisions together for the best way to treat whatever discomfort you’re feeling.” First, you and your provider may explore conservative options, such as physical therapy or pain management. If surgery is the best option for you, Frederick Health specializes in minimally invasive techniques that ensure a faster recovery.
Patient education can help improve your surgical outcome. “We want patients to be well-informed about joint replacement procedures, which have benefits but also risks,” says Dr. Fleurizard. “We educate you about these surgery risks, pre- and post-surgery precautions and how to achieve positive outcomes. Additionally, we advise you to address modifiable factors—such as alcohol, smoking and weight—to improve results.” In 2005, Frederick Health started Joint Works, a patient-friendly clinical program developed for joint replacement patients and their families. Core elements include pre-surgical patient education, pre-surgical rehabilitation, perioperative services and discharge planning with a team of experienced and expert providers, nurses and rehabilitation therapists who treat joint replacement patients every day. “Every patient gets exercises to try to strengthen whatever extremity you’re having surgery on before your procedure. This helps with recovery afterward,” explains Dr. Fleurizard. “After 18 years, the program continues to improve surgical outcomes and recovery time. Many patients notice the difference and realize how effective it was when they did rehab and exercises before surgery.” Keeping Frederick County moving and getting you “back to better” is the goal of Frederick Health Medical Group’s Orthopedics & Sports Medicine team. Whether you’re hosting Thanksgiving or an autumn dinner party, setting a festive table creates the perfect cozy atmosphere. Improvise and use what you have around the house for adding elements to the table. Candlesticks, vases, little pumpkins and gourds, or fall decor you have on hand can make a great centerpiece. Add fresh flowers or dried foliage for that extra layer of texture and color.
The Traditional Table For this classic, traditional look, a plaid throw blanket stands in for a tablecloth to establish a festive base layer. Brass candlesticks with brown taper candles create a simple and elegant centerpiece. Use familiar accents such as amber jars filled with dried grass foliage and brass pheasants to adorn the table. To add a little character to the table, use a recycled wine bottle as a vase. The simple place setting is enhanced with a dried grass accent and brown silk ribbon tied into a bow to add a special touch to your traditional display.
The Fall Garden Party Table Are you planning to dine al fresco this fall? Create an earthy, fall garden party on the porch by using natural, organic elements, greenery and flowers. To make a statement, create a floral chandelier by hanging flowers upside down above the table using fishing wire (if your space allows). It’s Pumpkin Bread Season
The Perfect Recipe For Some Autumn Comfort
Ingredients: • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour • 1 teaspoon baking soda • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder • 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 1 teaspoon nutmeg • 1/2 teaspoon ginger • 1 teaspoon salt • 1 1/2 cups canned pumpkin • 1 1/2 cups sugar • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract • 1/2 cup vegetable oil or canola oil • 1/2 cup melted butter • 2 eggs Directions: 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. 2. In a mixing bowl, add the flour, baking soda and baking powder, spices, and salt. Set aside. 3. Combine the oil, butter, and vanilla in a liquid measuring cup. 4. In a mixing bowl (with a paddle attachment), beat the pumpkin, sugar, and eggs until combined. 5. Turn the mixer to low and slowly add the liquid ingredients. Let this process take about 1 to 2 minutes so the mixture becomes light and fluffy. 6. Using a spatula, fold the dry ingredients into the wet and slowly fold until the ingredients are blended. 7. Prepare a 10 x 5 loaf pan by buttering it really well and then adding a strip of parchment paper to the bottom and up the sides for easy removal. 8. Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 1 hour. The bread will be fully risen in the center, like a loaf. Make sure it’s fully cooked and brown on the top otherwise it will fall in the middle once removed from the oven.
