EXCEPTIONAL CARE COMES FROM AN EXCEPTIONAL STAFF.
Every time you come to work, you are making a di erence. Every smile you o er a patient, every hand you place on a grieving shoulder, every appointment you schedule, pitcher you refill or pain you relieve, you’re providing compassionate care when people need it most. Williamson Health is the exceptional health system it is because of your commitment to excellence.
Thank you for your dedication to caring for our community and for choosing to be a part of our team. Your time, talents and hard work make everything we do possible.
There’s No Place Like Home
"There's no place like home." Dorothy repeatedly told us that in The Wizard of Oz . But we didn't need a movie to tell us about the indescribable meaning the word "home" has. Home is our grounding. Our base. Our launchpad. It’s where we start and end each day. And while the particulars look different for each of us, the meaning and warmth it holds for all of us is unquestionable.
So we thought about "home" and what it means to each of us. For some, it's the food and drinks. For others, the aesthetic and design. Home is also community. But mostly, home is about the people.
And as you flip through the pages of this issue, you'll read about lots of people who live and work in the area. We cover home school spaces, new communities, shopping for your home, and more. We offer a new travel idea for spring breakPensacola Beach! We also give you a recipe for whoopie pies in honor of Pi Day!
I'd be remiss not to mention cover stars Dan + Shay who are filled with gratitude for their fans and are excited to be performing in their home arena at Bridgestone.
We feel like the lucky ones as we got to learn more about the businesses and individuals that comprise Franklin and the surrounding areas and hope the small lens into their lives and work resonates with you. Thanks for letting us be a part of your home.
Fondly,
March 2024

“What do you do when traditional medicine fails you? You go to those who are thinking outside the box and offering different solutions!”
“After years of battling TMJ and an undiagnosed neck injury with little relief, I was starting to lose hope. That’s when I found Kellum Stem Cell Institute.
From the moment I walked through the door Dr Mehta was kind, thorough, and knowledgeable. He took the time to walk me through my MRI imaging and diagnosed something my previous specialist had missed. He explained how stem cell therapy works and gave his honest opinion about the results I could expect.
I started seeing benefits within the first two months. The progress I’m seeing gives me such hope and optimism for my future.”

AN INSIDE LOOK INTO THE LIFE OF LATE COUNTRY LEGEND GEORGE JONES AS TOLD THROUGH HIS WIFE’S MEMOIR
34
The life and career of “The King of Country Music,” George Jones, has been in the spotlight for decades and his music has left an indelible mark on the genre. While his songs will always be revered as some of the best in country music, Jones is also known for some tumultuous years as he battled his demons of substance abuse. A period of his life was recently portrayed in the docuseries George & Tammy, depicting his relationship with country legend Tammy Wynette. Now Jones’ fourth wife, Nancy Jones—to whom he was married for 30 years—is sharing an inside look at the years that she and George spent together in her recently released book, Playin’ Possum
Following an incredible journey back to health from severe COVID complications, Franklin resident Nancy Jones decided it was time to put pen to paper and share a glimpse of her and her late husband’s life with the world. Written with Ken Abraham and released in September 2023, Jones feels like God wanted her to share their story. “I don’t think of it as my book. I think of it as God’s book,” she explains. “Laying in that hospital I kept thinking, ‘I need to put this out.’ Fans need to know this. They need to know why I fought for this wonderful, wonderful man and how I had to help him.”

“Fans need to know why I fought for this wonderful, wonderful man and how I had to help him.”
The book is transparent and eye-opening as she shares difficult details of moments of abuse and the hardships his substance use brought into their lives until he finally changed his ways. Jones says she doesn’t want her husband to be remembered for his drinking, rather she wants the world to remember the good parts of his legacy and the man he was. “In this book, I didn’t sugarcoat anything. I just wanted them to see what you have to go through sometimes for love, and I did. Who could love anybody any more than I did with George Jones or he did with me? You just can’t give up,” she says.
She shares in her memoir that when people ask why she stayed with him, her honest answer was, “‘Because I knew that underneath all of that was a really good man. When George wasn’t drinking or doing drugs he was a wonderful gentleman, a kind, fun man, with a fantastic sense of humor. So throughout our marriage, I kept trying to help him get clean and stay clean.”
In addition to the dark moments, the book also details lighter, funny memories like when he went to the restroom during the CMA Awards and she had to accept his award onstage for CMA Vocal Event of the Year for the song “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair” when his name was called. Readers can get an inside look into stories of their years building Jones Country Music Park, hanging out with country music legends, the explanation behind his nickname
- Nancy Jones
“Possum”, and little-known moments from George’s career.
“We always laughed together; we had a good time together,” she remembers. “He thought he was a good cook, but he wasn’t. He always wanted to get in the kitchen and act like he could cook or he would just be a terrible cook so you always had to have a backup there. Just those kind of things. Just a togetherness,” she says of her favorite memories with George. “He was just true to country music,” she says. “I mean the man loved country music. He was so kind and so sweet. I’ve never seen anybody eat, sleep, and talk country music like George did and it was a life for him. He lived the country music. He would never record something that he didn’t feel.”
The book includes mentions of Williamson County and Middle Tennessee. “I’m not ever leaving from Franklin. I love Franklin and George loved Franklin,” she says. “We lived in Texas, we lived in Florida, we lived everywhere but I always came back to Franklin. He always wanted to come back to Franklin. We lived in Brentwood and Brentwood’s not bad, but it’s not Franklin. Franklin, I’ve been here since 1989 and I don’t intend to leave.”
Nancy strives to keep George’s legacy alive through this book but also hopes to use it as a way to communicate God’s saving love with readers. “I want readers to know that there’s a God that can help you turn your life around.”

Whoopie! IT’S PI DAY
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY JUDY BEAUDIN
I’m all in on any occasion that includes pie. Pi Day was created by physicist Larry Shaw in 1988 to bring an element of fun to math. On March 14, the most famous mathematic symbol gets its own all-day celebration.
The little guy that represents the circumference of a circle and its diameter is as good a reason as any for a party, don’t you think? Round foods are fun menu choices, and pies of all kinds traditionally top the list of possibilities.
While little mathematicians enjoy Pi Day activities, serve up these circles on steroids. My Whoopie Pies are from another stratosphere. In my catering business, a longtime client insisted they be a part of every single event. Their guests clamored for them.
Sink your teeth in these Snickerdoodle flavored cakey sandwich cookies with their sweet creamy filling, and I think you’ll agree Pi Day might be worth celebrating all year long.

CULTHEIR
COMBINES CULTURE AND HEIRLOOMS
ARTICLE BY KELLIE WALTON PHOTOGRAPHY BY SAMUEL ALLEN | MAKEUP BY ALANA WOOD
Traveling is often more than just a vacation – it can provide a life-changing opportunity to learn about yourself, the world, and, in some cases, spark an idea that may transform your life.
In 2017, Jessica Engholm sold her public relations firm in Los Angeles and set out to solo travel around the world. She explored places like Thailand, Asia, Mexico and more, falling in love with the qualities that made each place unique.
“I really fell in love with the distinctive architecture and design, specific to these different countries,” Jessica shares. “How much it varied, how components like materials, such as wood and marble native to a region, could completely transform a home or building.”
While she was traveling, she was also tackling a project redecorating her home. She struggled finding pieces that sparked the same inspiration in the United States, so she set out to curate a collection from around the globe.
“I shipped back a container from Bali full of goods – live edge wood tables, vintage chairs, a lot of artisan-made finds,” Jessica shares. “I happened to host a couple of dinner parties and my guests kept asking, ‘Where did you get this?’ or ‘How did you find that?’” Jessica then knew she was onto something, and her transition from the world of public relations to the world of design had begun.
“I came to visit a friend in Nashville in 2020, and we took a day trip down to Franklin,” Jessica adds. “I just immediately fell in love. The energy of Tennessee is something truly special. I believe its allure is something you can’t find everywhere. Everything from the fireflies to the warm summer nights makes you feel grounded and at home. It’s a growing city, but still continues to feel like a small town.”
CONTINUED > 45 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/FRANKLIN MARCH 2024
Sentiments we can all agree with, Jessica officially made the move to Franklin in 2021, with plenty of her stunning personal collections making the move with her. Now she operates a retail store and showroom on Main Street in Downtown Franklin.
“We’re no ordinary home retailer,” Jessica shares. “We like to think of it as a showroom first and a design studio second, a space that is also filled with stunning objects that inspire and tell stories."
Cultheir has two primary pillars. The first being an antique and vintage collection that’s on display in the showroom, sourced from places like Hong Kong, Indonesia, Mexico, and Turkey. The second pillar revolves around custom productions, partnering with artisan groups and small-batch manufacturers around-the-world to produce specialty pieces: petrified wood bathtubs, live-edge tables, calacatta marble and travertine tables, fireplace surrounds, and many other large-scale items.

“The movement we’re really trying to get behind is helping people rethink the word ‘artisan,’” Jessica adds. "For years, people have associated the word artisan with small-scale products including textiles and basket weaving. Yes, but they're also stonemasons, woodworkers and welders. We define their artistry as generational craftsmanship."
For many custom pieces the Cultheir team sources, they’re working with artisans who often learned from their father or grandfather. Over seven years, Jessica has personally built the supply chain, traveling to various countries exploring everywhere from tiny towns to the middle of the jungle to source pieces.
While some artisan groups are more established, others don’t have the infrastructure or means to export goods. The Cultheir team has been able to help put logistics plans in place for them. The support for artisans doesn’t stop there, though, they are constantly finding ways to assist and elevate small creators around the globe.
“In terms of supporting them and building infrastructure, we help with little things like providing a camera so they can record and share the progress of their work. We’ll sponsor certain tools, and any resources they need to do good work,” Jessica says.
If you’re looking to incorporate custom, artisan-made pieces into your own home, a visit to Cultheir is a collaborative experience, offering interior design and styling services, and educating the community on value engineering and custom architectural elements, specializing in wood and stone creations. In addition to the general public, Cultheir also works with trade professionals like designers and architects for large projects or one-off pieces like onyx sinks or hand-carved doors.
The brand has continued to grow since its inception seven years ago,
celebrating many wins along the way, many even happening within the past few months here in Franklin.
“Since opening our doors in September, I’ve been really pleased with what we’ve been able to accomplish,” Jessica adds. “We launched our interior design and styling program, shipped in four containers from various countries, established a shipping and warehouse strategy, launched our e-commerce business, grew our following to over 70,000, and we’ve collaborated with two national home brands, Jenni Kayne and Parachute, just to name a few milestones.”
The name “Cultheir” blends the words “culture” and “heirloom,” while the brand aesthetic is rooted in Wabi-sabi, a Japanese philosophy that revolves around finding beauty in transition.
“A lot of what you find at Cultheir is about the beauty in imperfection,” Jessica adds. “We integrate this philosophy into design by prioritizing organic materials, natural earth and, often, aged elements, and plenty of texture. This really is the foundation of everything Cultheir sources and/or creates.” Cultheir.com

MY SOUTHERN HOME HOST, KIMBERLY GREENWELL MAKES HER MARK
ARTICLE BY KIMBERLY GREENWELL PHOTOGRAPHY BY BECKY JONES BRANDING
Kimberly Greenwell, home expert and face of the popular television show My Southern Home, is known for her love of educating and inspiring homeowners to create their dream spaces.
If you ask her how she founded her television show, she will tell you it found her. After working in television for over 10 years, she had to start over. Kimberly was one of many who lost her job during the recession in 2008 and 2009. She started her company, KAG Media Consulting, helping businesses with marketing and public relations.

Her first client was the Home Builders Association of Greater Louisville. Kimberly became the publicist for the home-related shows they produced: Home Garden and Remodeling, Homearama, and Tour of Remodeled Homes
In 2015, a local television station asked Kimberly if she would produce and host a home-related television show. Little did she know this opportunity would be life-changing for her and open doors that she could never imagine.
In 2017, Kimberly went out on a limb and created My Southern Home. The program was so well received that Barber Cabinet Company asked her to expand to Nashville. One year later, Kimberly launched the first season of My Southern Home in Middle Tennessee.
This month, Kimberly will air her 12th season of the television show in Middle Tennessee and her 14th and final season in Louisville. After seven years of living in Louisville, and Nashville, and 27 seasons of My Southern Hom e, she has decided to call one place home. Kimberly decided to leave Louisville, her home for over 20 years, and immerse herself in all things real estate here in Middle Tennessee.
“The decision to leave Louisville is bittersweet. It has been my home for over 20 years and where My Southern Home began. It was time to slow down and call one place home, and I knew that place needed to be Nashville.”
In January of this year, Kimberly passed her real estate exam. She joined forces with Crye-Leike Real Estate Services, the nation’s fourth-largest independent real estate company and the largest firm in the mid-South. “Becoming a realtor was the natural next step for me. I love helping homeowners create their dream homes. Now, not only can I connect them to the right contractors, but I can connect them with the right home!”
The new season of My Southern Home starts March 16 at 10 a.m. on MYTV 30 and can be watched online at MySouthernHomeTV.com

How Jonathan Knudsen Is “Making Something Happen” At Inspiration Homes
ARTICLE BY ED ATLAS PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
There’s an old adage that says, “If you want something done right, call a busy person.” That would mean calling someone like Inspiration Homes owner, Jonathan Knudsen. He doesn’t worry about problems; he solves them. He doesn’t ponder opportunities; he seizes them. In fact, you get the idea that if there were a 25th hour in the day, he’d find something constructive to do with it. It’s a mentality that has served him well, personally and professionally, throughout his life. “I’m a workaholic; I don’t play video games and I feel as though I have to actively be making something happen,” he says.
57 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/FRANKLIN MARCH 2024
Knudsen, 53, has been making things happen in a positive way since he was a youngster living in Idaho where he, “grew up on the arts side of the house.” He dabbled in dance, sang, and played tenor sax and oboe. He was set on attending The Juilliard School until, “someone convinced me that, unless I was fabulous, it would be unbelievably difficult to break into that field,” he says.
That prompted a shift in focus to business. He earned his MBA with an emphasis on international business from Marquette University, then spent the first part of his career working with tech startups from his adopted hometown of Brookfield in suburban Milwaukee. Eventually, he transitioned to the corporate side, specifically to sales roles for a global technology leader, where he led a division that was noted for consistently outperforming its goals and expectations.
But along the way he began sowing the seeds for another pivot that was as far removed from technology sales as tech was from the arts. “In 1998 I started flipping homes and rental properties in Wisconsin,” says Knudsen. “I did rentals and remodels as well as buy/sells just to have more play money, and I enjoyed it. My kids thought it was odd that I couldn’t sit still, but it wasn’t work to me.”
By 2015, Jonathan and Erin, his wife of 29 years, moved their family to Middle Tennessee where the next chapter of his corporate life would unfold. But he already was enjoying a good deal of success flipping and remodeling property. “We bought a small house in Spring Hill to live in while we were building a new one,” he says. “And that’s when I realized that the process of building a home and everything that goes into it, the positives and the negatives, was more fulfilling than my corporate life. That was the first time I began to think seriously about doing this full-time.”
for this man of faith. “I’m a strong Christian. I did right by my team, but I didn’t see the reciprocity from my supervisors,” says Knudsen. “But I can only control my destiny and no one else’s.”
Knudsen reached out to people he trusted and began the formal process of forming a business. Everything, including the marketing plans, was considered. The result was Inspiration Homes, a Thompson’s Stationbased provider of custom home builds and large-scale remodels. The company opened for business in January 2022, before Knudsen officially stepped away from his decades-long run in the corporate world.
“We began with the goal of working 3-5 years before transitioning into a full-time enterprise but by January of 2023 we were ready to go and decided to go all in,” says Knudsen. “We’ve done production builds, a custom home and we’ve completely finished three remodels with four more nearing completion.”
Today, Inspiration Homes is a thriving small business. Jonathan handles the design, build and execution of the project, while Erin manages administrative and vendor management functions. “About 90 percent of our jobs have been remodels with the remaining 10 percent being custom builds,” says Knudsen. “I enjoy them both. I like working with the customer, solving problems, and moving them through their challenges.”
Much as he did decades earlier when he set aside arts in favor of business, Knudsen began studying for his general contractor license which he received in the spring of 2022. The timing couldn’t have been better as, despite the success, his corporate supervisors began dissolving divisions. Even though he was not directly affected, seeing colleagues excel at their jobs, only to have their livelihoods upended, was unsettling
With its A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, Inspiration Homes is popular with those who are looking for custom builds or remodels with the hands-on attention that can only come from a boutique builder. “What people tell me the most is that they appreciate communication and transparency,” says Knudsen. “That means working with a general contractor who returns calls promptly and lives up to their word. Everyone can get supplies, but do they have teams and processes in place that enable them to work efficiently? That’s the question that we take pride in answering to our client’s satisfaction. We keep projects on track and we don’t cut corners.”
It’s the type of attention to detail you’d expect from someone who understands the value of solving problems and seizing opportunities. BuildWithInspiration.com

WALKER LUXURY + LAND IS BECOMING THE NATURAL CHOICE FOR THOSE SEEKING THEIR SHARE OF THE MIDDLE TENNESSEE COUNTRYSIDE
AS AUTHENTIC AS THE LAND
LOCAL LIMELIGHT | SHOPPING
62
With his easy humor, down-to-earth charm and love of the Lord, Henry Walker is as authentic as the vast expanses of land he sells throughout Middle Tennessee.
the brakes was approaching, that Henry would accelerate into a second career in real estate. In doing so, he was following Lisa’s lead of two years earlier. By 2020, they formed Walker
“Away from work, we like to travel and we love Hawai’i, especially Maui. The people there are wonderful and many of them lost everything in the recent wildfires. If you can, please consider buying produce from Maui. The pineapples are the best in the world and your purchase will help with relief and recovery.” — Lisa and Henry Walker
He grew up on a cattle farm. Met Lisa, his wife of 34 years who he adores, on a blind date. Dinner at BrickTop’s qualifies as a big night out. And they worked like crazy, Henry in supply chain management; Lisa as a dental hygienist, while raising their (count ‘em) …….. eight children! (Before we go further, let’s call the roll: daughters Maggie, 35; Molly, 34; Jill, 24; and sons Hank, 33; Pritchard, 31; Dylan, 30; Eden, 27; and Brody, 18.)
“I’m a country boy at heart, who got lucky and married up,” says Henry. “A lot of those years were a blur with a large family because, truthfully, we were just trying to get to the next day and, by the grace of God, they’ve turned out to be good people.”
It came as no surprise in 2019, just when it looked like the time to tap
Luxury + Land and have realized steady growth every year. “It was something I had wanted to do for years but couldn’t take the risk with so many mouths to feed and living check-to-check,” says Lisa. “But once we had only one child at home, I decided to go for it.”
By the time Henry jumped in, there was no looking back. He invested heavily in his education, something that he and Lisa continue to do. (“The more you know, the more you know,” he says.) He’s on track to become an Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) later this year, of which there are fewer than 40 out of the 35,000+ real estate professionals in Tennessee.
The lure of large land sales aligns with his roots in rural Ripley, Mississippi. He targets properties of any size with a focus on large-tract farm and ranch listings. Walker Luxury and Land’s

portfolio of sales boasts some of the most beautiful farms in Tennessee.
“We’ve sold some absolute stunners,” says Henry. “We market to a lot of places and we network with investors from around the nation.”
Clients range from developers to individuals looking for a rural retreat. Along the way, the Walkers have developed a reputation for knowledge. “People appreciate it when you can talk to them intelligently about their options, especially when it comes to things like zoning, because that can influence the price,” says Henry. “And location is always a factor. An acre might be more valuable in Williamson County than it is in Giles County.”
The Walkers are active members of Church of the City in Franklin. They’re also members of The Heritage Foundation of Williamson County where you may have seen them as they volunteer at many festivals, including their favorite, Dickens of a Christmas. They live in Leipers Fork but are patiently seeking a historic home. “I’m passionate about historical homes, pretty much obsessed,” says Lisa. “I love the architecture and the stories and history behind the house. You can build a replica but it’s not the same without the history or the original character.”
Because in the end, authenticity is what matters the most.

Homeschooling Expert Jeanne Faulconer Helps Families Set Up for Success
GREAT LEARNING SPACES for BRIGHT MINDS
ARTICLE BY CHRISTINA MADRID | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
As homeschooling increases in popularity, so are the ways in which families are creating settings conducive for learning. Over the years, after homeschooling her three boys, Jeanne Faulconer has learned some of the pitfalls to avoid as well as tips on best practices for home education.
Jeanne started out in the communications world with a degree in journalism, doing some writing, working in media, and teaching at a college. After realizing that the standardized teaching methods were not working well for her children, she began homeschooling. “Homeschool is not for everyone, but it was a better fit for my family,” Jeanne says.
Throughout this experience, Jeanne and her family moved numerous times due to her husband’s job. Each time she had to try new ways to set up a space so her three children could thrive and progress. She quickly discovered there is no single correct way. “Some families have space constraints, some have designated learning rooms, while some set up a room for each child,” Jeanne says. Her tip for anyone who is about to set up a homeschool space is to first try it out. Too many times, Jeanne has seen families pour money into a room-painting and decorating, only
to have the child feel more comfortable working at the kitchen table. “Parents are more reluctant to change a setting even if it isn’t working, if they have invested time, money and heart,” Jeanne says. “My motto is ‘do what works.’” Some kids will need a quiet space to learn while others don’t. Jeanne also notes that as children advance in learning, the learning setup will also likely need to change.
After moving to Virginia, Jeanne did “Evidence of Progress” evaluations to certify that children in a homeschooled household showed a progression in learning. She did this for 10 years and saw many different types of home education spaces. Jeanne then took a job as director of Brave Learner Home, Brave Writer’s homeschool community for parents, and provided coaching and resources to help parents effectively homeschool.
She is now a senior contributor for TheHomeSchoolMom.com website and provides content, consulting and media outreach. She loves to share how she helped her kids learn, which includes how best to set up and plan for learning. The HomeSchoolMom. com offers advice but also contains an “Ask Jeanne” section where parents can ask questions about, or raise issues, on homeschooling.

Jeanne also provides tips for setting up spaces for learning that can also apply to remote learning.
1) Proximity matters. Keep items needed within reach.
2) Set up is age dependent.
3) All spaces should have good lighting, be comfortable, and be set at a comfortable temperature (not too hot and not too cold).
Parents should also consider multiple learning setups. As Jeanne points out in one of her articles at TheHomeSchoolMom.com, you can be creative and set up different types of learning spaces such as “tub schooling,” a learning center for littles in the bathroom. Tub schooling, for example, could include some plastic measuring cups and spoons, a watering can, plastic funnels, bubbles and stick-on letters (see photo example).
“Camouflage” model-learning, which incorporates learning into each room, such as a globe in a living room, is also an easy way to add diversity to learning setups. A classroom space doesn’t have to look like a school classroom.
Jeanne also advises families not to discount “passive” learning. “A simple shower curtain with the periodic table or the alphabet is a great example of something kids will see every day and learn from,” she says. Of course, parents should not forget that the outdoors is a classroom in and of itself. Kids can learn about the weather, seasons, animals and much more from just being outside.
To stay within budget, Jeanne recommends re-purposing furniture. “Many families do not use their formal dining room. The large table is a great place to do projects and the cabinets can be a space for supplies.” Creating learning stations is also a budget-friendly way to add educational variety.
Jeanne’s Learning Station Ideas:
1. Nature station — a container with leaves and other items collected on walks, and a magnifying glass.
2. A bird feeder — a box near the window to view the bird feeder with binoculars, a state bird book, a notepad, and colored pencils/pens.
3. To-go bags — small backpacks ready to go with snacks, a filled water bottle, a magnifying glass, and bags for collecting.
4. Music station — an area with different instruments, such as a keyboard, tambourines, maracas, a recorder, and drums (you can make your own).
Additionally, sensory stations are becoming more popular, particularly if children feel anxiety or stress. You can build your own container with fidget toys and “squishes” or you can have one custom-made. “There is not a one-size-fits-all solution,” Jeanne says. Every family has different needs but with a little patience, and some experimenting with setup options, each family can find what homeschool space and learning methods are best for them. “Music is so much bigger than all of us.”
Dan + Shay, the dynamic country music duo of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, first captured the hearts of audiences with their 2014 debut album, Where It All Began . Renowned for a series of chart-topping hits like “19 You + Me,” “Nothing Like You,” “From The Ground Up,” “Tequila” and “Speechless,” and three consecutive Grammy wins from 2019-2021, Dan + Shay are beloved for their harmonious blend of soulful vocals and compelling songwriting.
After a near split that helped them find their mojo again, 2023 saw the release of their fifth studio album, Bigger Houses.
The boys have just embarked on a highly anticipated new tour, “The Heartbreak On The Map Tour,” showcasing not only the evolution of their sound but their extreme gratitude for this next step in their lives and career. “There’s really something special about this tour. Dan and I have been on a journey the last couple of years so we’re really in the best place we’ve ever been in and we have so much gratitude that we get to do this for a living,” says Shay Mooney.
“The Heartbreak On The Map Tour” kicked off on February 29 in Greenville, South Carolina with an upcoming stop on the 19-city arena tour at Bridgestone

Arena on March 21. Shay says, “There’s going to be a freshness to this tour. The production is something we’ve never done before. It’s bigger and better than we’ve ever done. It’s gonna be a breath of fresh air. We’ve got a lot of gratitude we’re coming into this tour with. Fans are gonna feel that. I’m healthier than I’ve ever been. Our fans are gonna be excited. It’s gonna be a lot of fun. I’m fired up!”
Fans can expect nothing less than Dan + Shay giving it their all. “One thing we make sure to do is to have a lot of rehearsals. We rehearse every single move we make, so we don’t have to think about where we have to be. If we’re thinking about that, then we’re not gonna have a great time. We want to be prepared. We’re forever grateful that our fans are spending their hard-earned money to come see us play so we want to be sure we’re putting on the best show that we can.”
Shay adds, “Before the show, one major thing we always do with our band and our crew is to have this moment where we remind ourselves how lucky we are that we get to do this. It’s such a team effort. We’ve got four other guys behind us in our band that are just as much a part of the show and there’s guys that are running lights and running sound. Without them behind the scenes, the show wouldn’t happen. We take a moment before the show to thank all of those people.”
Dan is co-producer (along with Scott Hendricks, a former Franklin Lifestyle cover) on the Bigger Houses album, a title Shay doesn’t necessarily want. “Music is so much bigger than all of us. And there are so many things about creating music that I can say are my favorite things. Production is such a cool piece of it because it’s about how a song is going to be perceived by the rest of the world. But I’m afraid if I learn too much about it, Dan’s gonna make me do more work,” Shay says laughingly.
The duo also completed the taping of the 25th season of NBC’s The Voice as coaches , which premiered February 26. It’s a first for the show to have a coaching duo with two chairs and one button. Shay says, “We’re excited to make a little bit of history and be the first duo on the show. It was incredibly humbling. The first couple of days took some getting used to because there was just so much at once. You’re being filmed the whole time. Once we settled in, we were there in the moment realizing that this is really, really special. It’s an extremely rare thing that most people don’t get to be a part of. You’re sharing the stories of all of these people coming through and you get to be a part of their journey.”
While Dan + Shay sing several songs about heartbreak and named this tour after it, gratitude for what they have is what this tour is really about. DanAndShay.com

EVERY ANTIQUE HAS A STORY
ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
DECOR TRENDS | HOME + DESIGN 82
There are many wonderful facets to antiques such as the craftsmanship of the item, which allowed it to last for so many years, the stories of the people who used these relics throughout time, and the beauty that makes them a joy to display in one’s home. It's also a way to take part in or to literally touch history.
Sometimes these treasures are passed down through families, while other times they are found at estate and garage sales. In the latter cases, we often don’t know the stories behind them or even the age and value of the pieces. Fortunately, there are many experts who can help determine these details.
First, what makes something an antique? “A true antique, whether it's furniture, books, paintings or glassware, must be a hundred years old or older,” says Amanda Pitts, owner of the Franklin Antique Mall, which has been located in a historic icehouse for the past 45 years. With its 12,000 square feet filled with 70 dealers specializing in everything from Civil War memorabilia and silverware to furniture and quilts, people can receive knowledgeable and accurate appraisals.
So how do they determine the value of an item? “When it comes to glassware, you would look for markings on the bottom,” she says. “With furniture, you would look at the patina of the wood and then look for certain details like dovetailing on the inside drawers. You would also look at the hardware.”
The vendors may also do research on the item to try to find its story. “It's always good to try to find out as much as you can about a piece. If you’re buying something from an estate sale, the family might happen to know its history.”
In addition to the Franklin Antique Mall, Amanda says the Lotz House Museum also does antique appraisals. And there’s an app called WorthPoint. “People can take pictures and it can give an appraisal on the items,” she says.
Amanda, who took over the business from her parents in 1996, enjoys seeing visitors and vendors bring in fine things and being able to admire the workmanship and think about all it may have entailed. “With furniture, anything before the Industrial Revolution was generally handmade, which is a lost art.”
She says customers often come in looking for something that reminds them of their childhood. “It might be something their mother had that brings back sentimental memories. I remember a young girl buying a painting one time who was so thrilled because she said it was so similar to one her grandmother had. We have men come in and buy Civil War artifacts like old guns, swords or saddle bags for their offices and they are so happy and proud of their purchases.”
Celebrities are known to shop at the mall as well. “Taylor Swift bought three big butcher blocks like a real butcher would have in his shop,” says Amanda. “Kenny Chesney bought enough old vintage blue bottles to fill up the tops of two cases. We have had lots of musicians shop with us.”
She adds, “It's interesting because you never know who or what’s going to come through the doors and you're constantly learning and getting to meet different people.”
If you want to find out more about a special item you have, make an appointment with the mall’s in-house appraiser.

Flora-Bama Yacht Club, located in Perdido Key is legendary Get there by boat or car and enjoy the waterfront views and fresh seafood. Venture across the street to take in some live music and enjoy a bushwhacker at the world-famous lounge that spans the Florida and Alabama state lines.
DO
The Naval Aviation Museum is a must-do. It’s located on an actual naval air station. The museum has more than 4,000 artifacts, 150 beautifully restored aircraft representing Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard aviation, flight simulators, cockpit
trainers and special exhibits. Even if you’re not an aviator buff, the museum is something that will make your visit to Pensacola unforgettable. And if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the Blue Angels take to the sky during a practice.
Pensacola Lighthouse is also located on the naval air base. Climb the 177 steps to the top and enjoy spectacular views of the Pensacola Pass.
In 1971, Congress established the Gulf Islands National Seashore “in order to preserve for public use and enjoyment certain areas possessing outstanding natural, historic, and recreational values.” For over 40 years the National Park Service has preserved this special place in keeping with that purpose. Enjoy bird watching, hiking, boating, swimming, and fishing on these beautiful public lands. Take a trip out to Fort Pickens and up your history game with the fortress that once housed Union troops and Apache leader Geronimo.
Perdido Key, otherwise known as the lost key, is a barrier island located between Pensacola and Orange Beach, Alabama. Perdido Key is home to Big Lagoon State Park, the gateway to the Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail and the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail.
No trip to Pensacola would be complete without a trip to the downtown area. Stroll Palafox Street and grab a coffee at any of the coffee shops. Enjoy restaurants, bars, boutiques and galleries. Take some time to walk the three-mile Settlement Trail and explore Historic Pensacola Village.
In season, hop on the city ferry that connects Downtown Pensacola to Pensacola Beach or the free island trolley to nearly three dozen stops along the beach from the east to the west end of the island.

New SouthVale Community Offers Stylish Homes In A Convenient Neighborhood Setting
ARTICLE BY JENNIFER BENNHOFF
Finding a home in sought-after Williamson County might become a little easier now that a new community is under construction in South Franklin. Ford Classic Homes will soon be adding to its most recent community of 123 units, SouthBrooke, by building approximately 500 additional units on its 245-acre site. The two connected communities are located off Lewisburg Pike, just south of Berry Farms.
Construction is beginning now on SouthVale, SouthBrooke’s sister community, and will feature single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums. Buyers can choose the home size that works

best for them, from 2,500 to over 4,000 square feet of living space. The neighborhood’s timeless design will blend with the rolling countryside and no two homes will be exactly alike.
“We’re using a variation of styles and colors to offer curb appeal with a modern twist,” says Chesney Ford, the company’s sales and marketing manager. “We want each home to be unique while still being complementary to historic Franklin architecture.”
Ford Classic Homes was founded 26 years ago by local resident Mike Ford and has grown from building a few houses a year to now having 50 employees and over 1,000 home builds to its name. Many of the employees are family members, including daughter-in-law Chesney. “We’re a local company through and through,” she says, “and most of us grew up right here in Tennessee.”
Their quality builds can be found in seven local communities, including Westhaven, The Grove, Witherspoon, Rosebrooke, and two new expansions in Huntsville and
Madison, Alabama. In 2022, the company won the Franklin Sizzle Award for best homebuilder.
SouthVale houses will sit on approximately a quarter acre and feature the classy “alleyway” style, where garages aren’t visible from the front of the house. This along with the front porches buyers often dream of will lend the streets a charming vibe. “The great thing about front porches is, they provide a way for neighbors to get to know one another,” says Chesney. “In

SouthBrooke, which is currently over fifty percent occupied, residents have already started organizing neighborhood get-togethers and events. This is what we hope for when we build a new community.”
Buyers will have the option to work with Ford’s in-house interior design team, Bella Vita Interiors, to choose paint colors, backsplashes, window treatments and other finishes. They’ll also enjoy modern lifestyle construction that includes mud rooms, main-level primary suites, optional main-level guest suites, gas fireplaces, 10-foot ceilings, crown moldings and two covered outdoor gathering spaces, one in front and one in the side yard area. Outside they’ll have access to a JuniorOlympic-size swimming pool, clubhouse, tennis and pickleball courts, and 140 acres of natural area with walking trails exclusively for SouthVale and SouthBrooke residents. “Pocket parks,” like mini town squares, will be located throughout, and the conveniences of Berry Farms, including a Publix grocery store, restaurants, workout studios, hair salons, coffee houses and other services are within a four-minute drive. The neighborhood is currently zoned for Oakview Elementary, Legacy Middle and Independence High Schools.
Prices will start in the $800,000 range for townhomes and condominiums and approximately $1,000,000 to $1,900,000 for single-family homes. Dedicated real estate agents are onsite daily from 12pm – 5pm to show model homes and answer buyers’ questions.
“A lot of people really enjoy the look and feel of the Westhaven community, and SouthVale will have a similar style, along with all the great neighborhood activities like pickleball tournaments, swim meets and progressive dinners,” says Chesney.

FROM CANCER TO CALLING
The Unforeseen Journey of Finally Home Services
ARTICLE BY CAROL FITE LYNN PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Growing up in the heart of Nashville, Bonnie Paik never imagined she’d become an entrepreneur or owner of a unique business that found its roots in the most unexpected circumstances.
“Some would say, especially my husband, that I’m bossy, so maybe it was my destiny, even though I never thought I’d be an actual ‘boss,’” said Paik. “I wanted to be a meteorologist when I was little – the weather girl.”
In November 2015, Paik’s life took a profound turn, leading her to become not just a boss, but the visionary behind Finally Home Services.

“I’M THANKFUL FOR THIS GIFT OF A COMPANY AND THAT I’M THE ONE WHO GETS TO DO IT.”
That fall, Paik and her husband decided to pivot from their urban, “tall-skinny” home to a house in the suburbs that had been on the market for more than 100 days in an incredibly hot local housing market. They frantically readied their current home for sale, listed it, and made an offer on their dream home. But as is often the case in Middle Tennessee’s chaotic real estate landscape, they lost their dream home to another bidder, while simultaneously receiving an offer too good to refuse on their existing home.
“We listed our house in order to buy the ‘perfect’ home,” says Paik. “In one conversation with our realtor, we lost the house we wanted to buy and the one we lived in. This was early November, so no inventory until spring. We were devastated!” They accepted the offer on their home and reluctantly pulled together a plan to move into a rental property in their current neighborhood until they could find their next home. Five days later Paik received the call no one wants from their doctor.
“I got a call at 7 p.m. from my doctor. She told me I had thyroid cancer,” Paik recounted. “First, I’m homeless, and now I have freaking cancer?! I thought ‘OK, God. What gives? What did I do to deserve this? I’m a good mom and wife. I give of my time, talent and resources. C’mon!’”
Fueled by steadfast perseverance and a commitment to keep things together for her family, Paik had her thyroid removed that December and moved into her rental home five days later. “The first night, we had no hot water. The second night, there were roaches in the shower. I never felt clean or settled. We were living in less than 1,000 square feet and my in-laws came for Christmas two weeks after my surgery. I’m surprised my husband is still alive,” she recalled with surprisingly good humor.
In a moment of quiet, post-move reflection while receiving treatment for her thyroid cancer, Paik discovered her calling. “I really felt a push to help people in the moving process. This is how Finally Home Services came to be. This is my calling,” she says.
“You never expect cancer to be a part of your journey, but sometimes, it’s through the hardest battles that we find our greatest strength. People hate moving so much, and I love it! To take this off their plate and help put people at ease, that is what motivates me.”
A few months later, the family secured a contract on their new “dream” home, and as they settled in, Paik began laying the groundwork for Finally Home Services. Starting with free moves for friends and refining the business model, they officially launched in May 2016. She recalled her initial thoughts, “Lord, if I can have one paid move this summer, Finally Home Services will be on a roll.” Their first summer saw an astounding 22 paid moves. From that modest beginning, Finally, Home Services blossomed, completing over 600 moves in six years and supporting families nationwide.
Amidst the challenges, triumphs and the rhythm of daily life, one sentiment remains constant for Paik: gratitude. “I’m thankful for this gift of a company and that I’m the one who gets to do it,” she said. Traveling Tacos
ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
When Ricky and Olga Hernandez relocated to Franklin a few years ago, they loved its friendliness and sense of community. But there was something missing - they had a hard time finding great tacos.
“We moved to the U.S. 16 years ago from Mexico, so we know what an authentic taco should taste, feel and look like,” says Ricky.
When he decided to make a career change last March, he tried different projects, but none seemed to fit. “Olga finally asked me, ‘What’s your dream?’ I jokingly said that I wanted to be a taco guy.”
That was on a Wednesday. Later that night, Olga sent invitations to their friends to come over on Saturday for tacos, because Ricky was starting a business. “I kept hearing his frustration of trying different things and not getting what he expected and decided to go for it with him,” says Olga.
That Saturday, they had a house full of people enjoying delicious tacos. A guest, who was also a neighbor and one of Ricky’s best friends, had a friend who was having a party and was looking for a caterer. “That was our first customer, and since then the Lord has been showing us what steps to take,” says Ricky.
Salsa Franklin Taco can now cater any event with customizable menus. “We’ve learned a lot, and the support of our church family and our community has been incredible,” he says. “But we needed to expand and to be able to operate every day, so we bought a food truck in November.”
It’s a 28-foot top-of-the-line truck with a little back porch where Ricky can grill. “I want to bring that authentic experience from Mexico City where you see the taco guy and the

lady making fresh handmade tortillas. I always ask people, ‘Have you ever been to Mexico City?’ and most of them will say no. I then respond, ‘Welcome to Mexico City in Franklin!’”
The couple is working on building a weekly route, but for now, people can find where the food truck will be each day on Instagram.
In addition to Ricky and Olga, their three daughters have also become involved in the business. “Our daughter Sofia, who’s 13, has become an expert at making guacamole,” says Olga. “Regina, our oldest, loves to take care of people, and our biggest promoter is our little one, Carolina, who’s 8.”
“I put the toppings like the red salsa, green salsa, cilantro, onion, and lime on the tacos and give them out to people,” Carolina says. “Their tacos are really good, and I’m not just saying that because they’re my parents.”
Sofia loves grilling and just helping out in general. “It’s fun. The tacos are so flavorful and juicy and they leave you with a taste for wanting more. It’s my favorite food.”
Every taco is cooked with authentic spices, and Salsa Franklin Taco uses many family recipes. Its number one seller is the steak taco. “We use premium meat - only ribeye and sirloin - so it’s not only the flavor but also the tenderness of the beef,” says Ricky. “The chicken is also very tender and the combination of the chicken, bell peppers and melted cheese is incredible.”
Its newest offering is carnitas. It’s slowcooked pork infused with fresh orange and then topped with cilantro and onion. “This business has definitely changed our lives for the better,” says Olga. “We love to see families enjoying some time together, and once we get where we need to be, we will support organizations that are close to our hearts. We have big plans.”

HOW TO MAKE
DIY GOLD LEAF JEWELRY DISHES
These cute and colorful dishes work perfectly to organize and display your jewelry, keys, or you name it! And you know what? They’re so easy to make!
supplies you’ll need:
• Wooden bowls, trays, etc.
• Gold leaf (or metallic gold paint)
• Gentle Gold leaf brush
• Mod podge (or gold leaf adhesive)
• Acrylic paint
• Paint brushes
• Painters tape (optional)
steps to do:
• Grab a wooden bowl, some acrylic paint, and a brush.
• Hand paint some paint on one section of the bowl.
• Let the first coat dry and paint another two to three coats of paint until you’re happy with the result.
• Let the paint fully dry.
• I wanted my gold leaf paper to overlap the paint for a layered look, so I took a paint brush and painted some Mod Podge in an overlapping pattern.
• Once the Mod Podge gets tacky, use your hand to apply the gold leaf and accompanying wax sheet.
• Push the gold leaf onto the tacky glue, then remove the top layer of paper.
• Use your fingers to gently push the gold leaf onto the glue a little further.
• Next, use the golf leaf brush to smooth over the whole area and gently wipe away any excess gold leaf. Pay extra attention to the edges.
• Next, smooth the gold leaf section as much as possible, but don’t worry about any imperfections. The organic look of the gold leaf being imperfect gives the piece character.
• Next, work your way to the outer edge.
• Once the gold leaf is perfected, gently brush over the leaf with some Mod Podge to seal it to the bowl.
• Let it completely dry and enjoy!

WHAT ARE THE LATEST CABINET COLOR TRENDS?
Warm wood tones are making their comeback! We have seen a shift towards natural stains to create a contemporary and timeless design. We often pair them with soft neutrals to bring comfort into the space.
COUNTERTOPS:
QUARTZ VS. GRANITE?
The difference between quartz and granite is that granite is a fully natural stone, while quartz is a mix of natural stone and resin. Both options are similar in price and durability. Quartz is a low-maintenance, nonporous option with a simplified look.
WHAT TILE STYLE IS IN AND OUT FOR 2024?
While it will always be classic, the demand for all-white subway tile is decreasing. In 2024, we are introducing fun tile into your home with 3D tile, exciting patterns and colors, or natural stone.
HOW CAN PERSONAL WELLNESS BE CONSIDERED WHEN REMODELING?
The advancement of technology has increased the desire for remodels that provide health benefits. Nutrition-focused kitchens are enhanced with smart appliances. In bathrooms, hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, and thermaltherapy are combined through steam showers and bathtubs. Paint colors and chromotherapy lighting are also considered in both kitchens and bathrooms.

THE POWER OF BEING HEARD: TRANSFORMING LIVES WITH SW:S
112
Erin Enderlin and Jack McMillen
In its mission to “transform lives through collaborative songwriting, expanding creativity, connections, and strengths,” SongwritingWith:Soldiers (SW:S) serves as a sanctuary for veterans seeking solace and empowerment through the transformative power of music. During immersive weekend retreats, veterans are thoughtfully paired with professional songwriters who skillfully weave the veterans’ personal narratives into songs reflecting their military experiences. These melodies and memories converge to compose a healing symphony for those who have served.
The voices of participant, Vietnam Veteran Jack McMillen, acclaimed songwriter, Erin Enderlin, and SW:S Executive Director, Kristin Starling, collectively unveil the profound impact of SW:S and the power of being heard.
Participant Perspective:
Jack McMillen, Vietnam Veteran, U.S. Army
Jack McMillen left his family farm in Hanibal, Missouri to enlist in the Army at the age of 19. Brimming with pride, patriotism, a sense of duty, and a profound desire to protect, he was deployed to Vietnam on February 6, 1966. Now, 78 years young, Jack reflects on his participation with SW:S.
“I heard about SW:S from the Internet and I listened to the songs, watched the videos, and knew this was a great opportunity for me to share my story. I hoped it would be a great experience but I was overcome from the first moment at the retreat - the big smiles, welcoming people, and warm atmosphere - I felt like I was home. It was great to meet so many wonderful people, from the staff and photographer to the songwriters and fellow veterans. It was better than I hoped for! We did many things together but I really enjoyed
working with my songwriter, Erin. We hit it off right away, and even though I choked up when I shared my experiences, I felt relaxed. I was delighted when Erin captured my service in song:
“I was in artillery, 105 air mobile, But I volunteered to be a door gunner on the choppers flying over Found POWs, ragged, in bad shape And proud to say I helped them back to safety that day.
10 men flew through the jungle deep And that’s one good memory that I’ll gladly keep.”
“When she played it back to me - it got to me. It inspired me to be proud of me again! After the retreat, I organized a local meeting for veterans to hear my song, expecting 10 Veterans. Instead 23 -26 veterans showed up. Although there were some tears, everyone loved my song. I inspired some of these gentlemen to stand tall and walk proud because we did do a good job there.

Erin Enderlin
In Vietnam, I lived day to day, but now I live my life fully. Celebrating 55 years of marriage to my wife, Carolyn, my song serves as a poignant reminder of why I served - to contribute to a world where my daughters and granddaughters can continue to live in freedom.”
Songwriter Perspective:
Erin Enderlin, Songwriter
Nashville songwriter and breakthrough artist in the 2020 American Currents exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Erin boasts an impressive portfolio including songwriting hits for Alan Jackson (“Monday Morning Church”), Lee Ann Womack (“Last Call”), and Luke Bryan (“You Don’t Know Jack”). Additionally, songwriting hits for Randy Travis, Reba McEntire, Joey + Rory, Terri Clark, and more, solidified her status in the country music scene. She is thrilled that her childhood dream to perform on the Grand Ole Opry stage has been realized - 24 times over!
“I was visiting Old Faithful when Radney Foster invited me to meet the team at SW:S. I loved the idea!
Both my grandfathers served so I jumped at the opportunity to give back. I am honored each time I contribute to telling a piece of a veteran’s story. It is a bit intimidating because it is not a typical song and I want to get it right. I listen attentively to their heart, picking up on themes as they share their experiences. Balancing the complexity of their narratives, which may encompass anger, hardship, sadness, and positivity all at once, is both challenging and cathartic. I am so proud of their bravery and willingness to move forward. Working on the verses and chorus, I stop and ask, ‘Does this feel true to you?’ I want them to trust me to convey their stories authentically. Collaborating with Jack, a veteran who shares the same love of the Tom T. Hall era style of music, we crafted the song “Soldiers Coming Home.” Sharing their song - that moment is always magical! Understanding the healing power of music from personal experience to witnessing veterans in realtime, reaffirms the profound impact of music on well-being. I feel grateful to be able to give our veterans something they can use in the future. With over 10 songs penned through SW:S and a commitment to partner more this year, I am thankful my passion for storytelling through music perfectly

Kristin Starling
aligns with the transformative mission of SW:S, creating a harmonious blend of artistry and healing for those who have served.” ErinEnderlin.com
SW:S Perspective:
Kristin Starling, Executive Director
“My passion lies in providing non-judgmental safe spaces for veterans to be heard and witnessed. Our national non-profit program addresses a pressing need. We are not a military, therapy, religious, or political organization; instead, our mission revolves around transforming lives through collaborative songwriting to expand creativity, connections, and strengths.
“Creativity: Veterans not only engage in songwriting sessions but also attend wellness and creativity workshops. Grounded in evidence-based practices, we help veteran participants see different possibilities and outcomes, which leads to hope.
“Connection: By deliberately maintaining small retreats, usually limited to eight veteran participants, we witness a powerful transformation where veterans not only form bonds with our team and each other but also experience a deeper reconnection—with themselves, their families, and their community.
“Strengths: Woven throughout the retreat, we dedicate time to focus on each veteran’s strengths, culminating in an endof-retreat strengths workshop where participants identify the strengths they see in each other and acknowledge and celebrate their own strengths. It is super powerful!
One poignant example underscores the impact of our work. A mother, with two veteran sons, faced challenges in connecting with them regarding their military experiences. However, after listening to songs created by others, she gained insight into her sons’ experiences, proving these songs not only help our veterans but also bridge the gap between veterans and their non-veteran family members.
Since its founding in 2012, SW:S has served thousands of veterans, co-creating more than 1,000 songs. Researchers at Harvard Massachusetts General conducted a small pilot study to study the effects of the SW:S Collaborative Songwriting Intervention™ (CSI) on Veterans suffering from post traumatic stress (PTS). They found the SW:S CSI sessions reduced PTS by 33 percent and depressive symptoms by 25 percent.
With 10 retreats already planned for 2024, and with hopes of adding more, I invite you to head over to SongwritingWithSoldiers. org, to free stream and listen to more than 700 veteran stories told through song, view the PBS concert, and explore opportunities to support the SW:S mission.”

by Miguel Graf. In mid-2023, Miguel Graf purchased Shower Doors of Nashville, an existing company with deep expertise in custom shower enclosures. His goal: build on the high standards and deep knowledge within the team to spread the luxury and sophistication of custom frameless shower doors.
“Having worked most of my life in large corporate organizations, I really love being a small business that does everything it can to please our customers,” Miguel explains. “In the construction space, things sometimes don’t go according to plan, so having a very human business, we can address any concerns much more quickly than many of our larger competitors. Ultimately, we are building a business in the community, for the community, and it has been a fascinating journey. The team we have has deep knowledge doing one thing day in and day out and that is the key to our success.”
By selecting to work with a local business such as Shower Doors of Nashville, the customer has more say and control in the creative process of their shower renovation. Along with that, the experience is also more personal. Shower Doors of Nashville make this a quick and seamless renovation.
According to Miguel, with the current real estate market, there is a pick-up in bathroom

remodels. “Barn-door style sliding doors have become one of the many styles people ask us about,” Miguel explains. “I personally love the frameless, glass-to-glass hinged systems. Frameless glass shower enclosures continue to gain momentum for their sleek and unobtrusive appearance. They create a sense of spaciousness, allowing natural light to permeate the entire bathroom, giving it a brighter and more welcoming ambiance.”
Switching to frameless shower doors can also provide benefits many aren’t aware of. Miguel says that these types of shower doors increase the home value while providing a sense of modernity and harmony in the most intimate part of your home. Overall you experience a brighter and more welcoming ambiance.
“Frameless shower doors provide many advantages over shower curtains or framed doors,” Miguel states. “The obvious one being an elegant and weightless feel to any bathroom, immediately increasing the light flow throughout the space. Frameless also allows us to construct more intricate designs. Finally, with high-quality glass and the added glass protectant options, it is very easy to keep the shower area looking great, clean, and mold-free.”
Their work speaks for itself. Upon seeing one photo of their flawless and sleek frameless shower doors, anyone can see just how stunning their work is. Shower Doors of Nashville also has a showroom in which anyone curious to see their craftsmanship in person is welcome to come and see some spec work.
Besides custom-built shower doors, the business also excels in creating beautiful wine cellars, sleek glass kitchen cabinets, jaw-dropping mirrors, luxurious glass top desks, see-through glass railings, and even more intricate glass projects.
Miguel also collaborates with other small, local businesses for custom projects which showcases community amongst businesses. One of the projects he’s collaborated on was with a local home builder for a wine cellar.
“They prepared a beautiful grid-scape design with iron and glass,” he explains. “We provided the glass install and it is simply stunning.”
Miguel hopes to one day create a network of small local businesses, a dream that is slowly becoming a reality.
“While Shower Doors of Nashville is my first business, I want to build a network of small local businesses to serve the community,” Miguel says. “While there is obviously a place for larger companies, small businesses provide stable jobs and value their place in the local community. If I can entice readers to select local whenever possible, that would be awesome.”

“GET YOUR HANDS ON A PLANT-BASED COOKBOOK, PICK A DOZEN RECIPES, AND COOK THOSE WITH YOUR FAMILY ON SUNDAYS.”
MENTAL WELLBEING | HOME + DESIGN 126
For over twenty years, Dan Buettner has been fully committed to studying the health and longevity of Americans as well as influencing the proper and attainable health-centric environments our communities should embody. What started with identifying five “blue zones” around the world where people are both living longer as well as enjoying a higher quality of life in their elder years has now also evolved into proactively creating eco-systems where our communities engage in setting the standard for clean health.
If you haven’t subscribed to watching “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” streaming on Netflix, do yourself a favor and soak up the well-documented views into how Ikaria, Greece, Loma Linda, California, Sardinia, Italy, Okinawa, Japan, and Nicoya, Costa Rica exemplify the basis behind the Blue Zones truth and have since inspired Dan and his team to further extrapolate how we can manufacture healthy blue zone lifestyles in virtually any city and within our homes by way of intentional adaptation.
Most of us are well aware of the “American way of life” we reside in, that being one of convenience in all shapes and forms. We excel in offering the most fast food options in any country. We rank at the top of the most cars per household. We embrace a sedentary at-home lifestyle. And, for many of us, it stems from our childhood to no-fault of our own; comfort foods and Friday night pizza deliveries, complacent recliners and cushy car commutes. In short, however, now more than ever we categorically live in a country where processed foods and ultra-convenience, unfortunately, translate to life-threatening health diseases and a lack of organic joy.
What is the best news of all? All of these characteristics are wildly easy to overcome with effortless, yet conscious pivots to making better decisions with our time, our food, and our focus. Ask yourself: Are you driving or walking? Are you connecting socially? Set your sights on avoiding the majority of processed foods and start eating a largely

whole-food and plant-based diet that will (statistically) give you another 10-12 years on your life.
In place of your toaster, keep a fruit bowl on the counter. Create a low-level junk food drawer. Stop buying processed meat, potato chips, sweetened snacks like cookies and candies, and worst of all, sugar-sweet beverages, and start buying more beans, nuts, grains, and tea.
“Am I going to tell you to never have these? No, people deserve to treat themselves. But you’ll do yourself an enormous favor if you just don’t bring those into your home. If you want to go out for those treats, go ahead,” Dan says. “Simply just don’t bring them home, and you’ll cut out 70-80% of consumption right there.”
Buettner’s first cookbook, The Blue Zones Kitchen, is a fantastic resource featuring ingredients and cooking methods that can increase longevity, wellness, and mental health. The recipes also include lifestyle tips such as proper portion sizes and the best times to eat dinner. Plus, check out his additional seven books that dig deep into the exact foods you should eat to how your circle of friends and family can influence your quality of life.
Who do you hang out with? Happiness is contagious.
“The Blue Zone approach is to go through your contact base and think of some friends whose recreation is pickleball, biking, or gardening. Who will care about you on a bad day and have a meaningful conversation? Identify one or two friends who are vegan or vegetarian and show you how and where to eat whole foods. Actively invite them out for lunch, and bring them into your social
circle: this will have a bigger, long-term impact on your behavior than any new diet or exercise, and it costs you zero. Plus, there is a ton of data that shows it works, and it’s long-term.”
“We are marketed the idea that if we change our behavior by exercising more, taking the right supplements, trying this longevity or that anti-aging hack, that we will lose weight and get healthy, yet it never works for the longterm,” says Dan. The Blue Zones approach is not trying to change your behaviors, it is asking you to change your surroundings…your eco-system.
Every time you go out to eat, you will consume an extra 300 calories that are laden with more sodium, sugar, and oil than eating at home. “Get your hands on a plant-based cookbook, pick a dozen recipes, and cook those with your family on Sundays. If you make the effort to cook it with your family, you will gain the skills and learn to make some good and whole food plant-based recipes.”

LIVING BOHO-CHIC WITH WOVEN TEXTURES AND MACRAMÉ
Decorate your space with handmade textures such as the modern, maker revival of 1970s macramé and year-round tropical feel of wicker. MACRAMÉ Made through knotting instead of weaving, macramé can add a unique touch in many various ways. Houzz contributor Laura Gaskill suggests incorporating it as nursery decor, plant hangers, wall hangings and modern fiber arts. WICKER According to Houzz contributor Yanic Simard, “the best way to really embrace the luxury-cottage appeal of wicker and rattan is to combine different forms of the two in one space... Look for other unexpected places to add a natural twist to your home with a new material woven into your palette.”

TIPS FOR DECORATING WITH NATURAL MATERIALS
Houzz contributor Katie Treggiden offers many ways to incorporate natural materials and natural-state timber into your home, including using wood to cover one wall in a home for a pleasing accent wall; featuring your firewood as a striking, stacked display; and mixing different types of wood and different finishes in the same space. “A simple way to incorporate the wood trend is to expose structural wooden beams already present in your home,” Katie says. “Instead of painting them or boxing them in, leave them raw or give them a coat of wax to enrich the tones.”

ADDING TASTEFUL POPS OF COLOR TO YOUR WHITE ROOM
Do you feel like your all-white room is missing something? Houzz contributor Kelly Porter bets what’s missing is energy.
“The best way to add a spark to any space,” she says, “is with bright color.”
Kelly says green is one of the easiest colors to live with, looking organic even in its more vivid tones.
“When searching for the perfect bright green, think springtime—fresh green grass and newly sprouted leaves,” she says. “These greens have lively undertones that will look comfortable and warm in your white space.
Other colors Kelly recommends adding as accents are yellow, royal blue, orange, bluepurple, red-purple and sky blue.

Handmade Soap
Add a spa-like feel to your home with this refreshing soap recipe that's simple to make at home.
ARTICLE BY ANGI HOCKETT | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES
lavender honey lemon soap
ingredients
• 2 lb. goat’s milk melt-and-pour soap
• 1 lemon rind, zested
• 3 tablespoons of dried lavender buds
• 2 tablespoons of honey
• 15 drops of lavender essential oil
• 6 drops of lemon essential oil
• jar or bowl for melting soap base
• Silicone mold
directions
Chop soap into smaller pieces. It will melt faster this way. Place in bowl and microwave (or double boil). Be careful to watch soap and not let it burn. If you are using microwave, heat in 30 second increments, stirring frequently. Once soap is melted add your essential oils first. Once essential oils have been added and mixed thoroughly, add the lavender buds, lemon zest and honey. Have your mold ready to go, on a flat, even surface. You’ll want to move quickly before the soap cools too much. Mix everything thoroughly again, and pour mixture into mold. Let the soap cool for 2-3 hours until bars are completely solid. Wrap or package however you like.

Artistry And Allegory
ARTICLE BY KAREN CREASON PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
From a young age, renowned Franklin artist and resident Joseph Sulkowski knew he would be an artist. Driven by this lifelong dream, Joseph embarked on formal studies, first at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, followed by a dedicated apprenticeship under the guidance of Frank Mason at the Art Students League of New York. Today, the culmination of his artistic journey takes center stage as Joseph proudly unveils his Magnum Opus, "Apokalupsis: An Uncovering," at the esteemed Morris Museum of Art in Atlanta.
Joseph’s self-described style of ‘poetic realism’ goes beyond the literal, capturing the intangible aspects of reality. Drawing inspiration from Old Masters like Michelangelo and Velázquez, his work is a masterful exploration of light, space, and atmosphere. 'Apokalupsis,' derived from the Greek word meaning 'to uncover,' is a masterpiece that delves into the interconnectedness of life. Portraying foxhounds as metaphors for humanity navigating the vast field of time, Joseph invites viewers on a visual and emotional journey.
The allegory intricately weaves the seven deadly sins, five senses, four elements, and three graces, guiding viewers to a universal truth – the sacred reality that all is one. Complementing the exhibition are additional drawings, paintings, and a six-and-one-half-foot sculpture, enriching the immersive experience.
This extraordinary exhibition goes beyond aesthetics, serving as a testament to the transformative power of art. The ‘Apokalupsis: An Uncovering’ will be on exhibit from March 1 through April 21 at the Morris Museum of Art (Atlanta) and will travel to the AKC Museum of the Dog (New York City, May 8 - August 4) and 148th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show 2024 (Queens, May 11-14). Apokalupsis beckons individuals to join a spiritual journey where hearts are touched and souls are inspired. Joseph's art becomes a profound medium for uncovering the interconnected threads that bind us all together. JosephSulkowski.com
