Have an attorney prepare your estate plan.
If you have been procrastinating about your estate planning, use your next trip as your deadline to finally get this done.
Review and update your existing estate plan. Revisions should be made any time there are changes in your family (i.e., a birth, death, marriage, divorce, or remarriage), your finances, or the tax laws, or if a trustee or executor can no longer serve. Before you travel is a perfect time to do this.
Review titles and beneficiary designations
If you have a living trust and did not finish changing titles or beneficiary designations, now is the time to do so. Some assets should not go into your trust, so check with your attorney and make sure those assets are as they should be. If your beneficiary is incapacitated or is a minor, setting up a trust for this person and naming the trust as beneficiary will prevent the court from taking control of the assets.
Review your plan for minor children.
If you have named a guardian, consider if this person is still the best choice. The person you name when your children are young may not be the best choice as they get older. This person may also change his or her mind, move away, become ill, or die, so name at least one successor in case your first choice cannot serve. Select someone responsible to manage the inheritance.
Review and update your insurance.
Before you travel is an excellent time to do this. Check the amount of your life insurance coverage and see if it still meets your family’s needs. Consider getting long-term care insurance to help pay for the costs of long-term care (and preserve your assets for your family) in the event you or your spouse need it due to illness or injury.
Organize your accounts and documents.
It used to be that we could just point to a file cabinet and say “everything is in there.” But now so much is done online that there may not even be a paper trail. Make a list of all of your accounts, where they are located, and the usernames and passwords, then review and update it before each trip. Print a hard copy in case your computer is stolen or crashes and let someone you trust know where to find it.
Talk to your children about your plan.
You do not have to show them bank and financial statements, but you can talk in general terms about what you are planning and why, especially when any changes are made.
Banking made for Music City.
September marks the end of summer and saying goodbye to summer can often be bittersweet. But we are here to soften the bitter with the sweet and bring you our annual September style issue! Distinguished designer Rachel Zoe, who rose to prominence as a celebrity wardrobe stylist, said, "Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak." So whether it's fashion, beauty, home, food or even finance, there are a plethora of creative types filling the 152 pages of this issue.
Starting with local foodie Judy Beaudin who offers us some pro tips on how to step up our food presentation game. We look inside tour buses to see the style of those who make their home on the road. We talk to a bootwear designer, a stained glass window designer, a bespoke tailor and an artist to discover their creative styles. We speak to the owners of two lovely local boutiques about what's happening this fall in the fashion world.
And let's not forget our cover stars, brothers Chris and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes. They broke on to the rock scene in 1990 and are performing at this month's Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival with a slew of other talented musicians. Style is one of the most salient qualities of music!
So when Taylor Swift sang, "We never go out of style," she wasn't kidding. Style permeates everything we see and do. However you do something, create something, perform something or even say something, may you do it with your own distinctive style.
Until next month, friends!
Warmly,
September 2023

THE INSIDE SCOOP ON WHAT’S TRENDING THIS SEASON
Debbi Kerrigan may be an engineer by trade, but keeping the local community outfitted with the latest fashion trends has been her focus since 2018 when she took over the fab’rik franchise in Franklin. Then in 2022, Debbi added a sister store in Brentwood’s Hill Center.
“My daughter, Jordan, is running the Brentwood location for me,” Debbi shared.
“We’re both sharing that little bit of passion
with retail. It’s been so fun, because the whole time she was in her last years of high school and throughout college she’d come home and help every break.”
Debbi describes the pair of stores as “sisters, but not twins,” meaning you’ll find complementary styles and a cohesive vibe across both stores, but their offerings may vary slightly based on each market.
“You’ll know the stores are related, but you won’t see the same thing,” Debbi shares. “Franklin has more of the mother/daughter shoppers, and Brentwood caters more to the business woman.”
Fashion is ever-changing, and one of Debbi’s favorite parts of the job is providing the community with an opportunity to add trending pieces to their wardrobe while keeping the basics in mind. As we head into fall 2023, a few noteworthy styles are emerging, and Debbi and her team are ready to help you pack your closet with the latest and greatest.
This fall, Debbi shares that a surprising item is making a comeback: the cargo pant, saying, “We’re seeing that for all age groups. I’ve even taken a pair home myself and I love them.” While cargo may be trending, denim will continue to remain in style, deviating from tears and holes to straight leg styles with minimal distressing at the bottom. Spanx is a popular pant and clothing brand, and Fab’rik carries an expansive selection.
Colorful dresses were a major trend in spring and summer, and Debbi anticipates that will continue as we head into fall, saying “Women want comfort, but we also want to be girly. We’ve sold so many dresses this year, and we anticipate they’ll still be a hot item going into fall and winter.”
Before packing up your spring and summer favorites, Debbi recommends finding ways to layer outfits to be
more seasonally-appropriate. Throw on a jacket or sweater to warm up a dress, or opt for a basic with an unbuttoned gauzy blouse on top.
Debbi, Jordan and their team of stylists are happy to help with layering options for existing pieces, whether you opt to come in with photos and ideas or schedule a complimentary personal styling appointment at either store.
Traditional fall colors like sage green and earth tones will continue to trend this year as with autumns past, but one vibrant colorway is standing out as a new trend for 2023: cherry red. Bright colors are growing in popularity and will continue to trend into the colder months, but if cherry red feels too bold, Debbi recommends dialing it down with a neutral basic like white denim. Speaking of which, Debbi shares that the old rule against wearing white after Labor Day is no more.
Since Debbi launched her new career path with fab’rik nearly five years ago, she’s enjoyed becoming ingrained in the local community and helping women stay on top of trends. She shares, “That’s been the biggest blessing - to get to know these fantastic women in this area more deeply, and watching them grow to have confidence in what we do here.”
Both the Franklin and Brentwood fab’rik locations have all the latest and greatest pieces to help you stay on trend through any season.

“Finding a good painter can be very difficult so I don’t give this rating lightly. I was so impressed with the professionalism overall with this company. Aaron was so responsive and timely on all communications with us. The estimates were clear and thorough and the cost was reasonable. The actual work was VERY good. ( I am very detail-oriented) Very clean lines on the edges. Prep work was great, they worked quickly and the final result was beautiful. We will definitely work with them again.”

Dr. Ethan Kellum and the team at Kellum Stem Cell InstituteDustin Bowen, the creative force behind Bowen Bootwear, has made quite the name for himself, and he’s leaving his mark in the custom boot industry- one stride at a time.
Dustin’s career began in music, but it was during his college years, while working at a local boot store for some extra cash, that he discovered his love for boots. While on tour, he would scour thrift stores, hunting for old boots, and then lovingly restore them to their former glory. From the confines of his tour van, he sold these refurbished beauties, developing his love for fashion. Music began to take a backseat as boots became his ultimate passion.
Dustin landed his first full-time role in fashion with the luxury brand Lucchese, a place where he honed his skills and developed his signature style. Combining fashion-forward designs with a hint of edge and rock-and-roll, his creations have captivated the imagination of everyone who has laid eyes on them.
Using Instagram, Dustin showcased his unique creations, causing his popularity to skyrocket. A serendipitous moment took place when Dustin toured a corner space in the Fairlane Hotel. Although the plan did not materialize, the vision of that space lingered in his mind, becoming a seed of inspiration for his future endeavors.
Driven by an innate desire to pursue his path, Dustin bid farewell to Lucchese and embarked on an entrepreneurial journey. Opening a shop was not initially on his agenda, as he had grown weary of the retail grind. However, the universe had other plans.
After taking a break to reset his creative mindset, Bowen Bootwear was born out of Dustin’s bedroom in the Nations neighborhood of Nashville, where he embraced a unique approach and offered house calls to his customers. Doing so, he was able to gather inspiration from each encounter to build a customer-centric experience. The humble beginnings of his business led to an unexpected fitting in the lobby of the Thompson Hotel, marking the start of something extraordinary. “When I brought Bowen Bootwear to life, it was my way to showcase my creativity by offering my clients the ability to hand select how they want their boots to feel from start to finish,” says Dustin.
Fast forward to the present, and Bowen Bootwear has become an iconic brand, with over 300 pairs of boots crafted in the year 2022 alone. Celebrities, locals, and fashion-forward individuals from around the globe clamor for Dustin’s custom creations. While his primary focus remains on bespoke footwear, he also has limited edition lines and plans to develop stock lines to have on hand in his storefront at all times.
Meticulous in his craft, sourcing only the finest leathers from the United States and Italy, Dustin believes in educating his peers about the true essence of quality when it comes to leather and craftsmanship.
As the brand evolves, Dustin aims to expand his repertoire by creating everyday shoes and accessories. He understands that not everyone is a die-hard boot enthusiast, and he strives to cater to the diverse needs of his discerning clientele. “I’ve gotten some feedback about just making boots, so I am going to start offering everyday shoes so that if you aren’t a boot lover, we can still offer you something that you love,” says Dustin.
For Dustin Bowen, Bowen Bootwear is more than just a brand; it’s a testament to his unwavering passion and dedication. Each pair of boots tells a story, blending fashion, comfort, and edge. When it comes to style, Dustin Bowen is the ultimate maestro.BowenBootwear.com
Growing up a Southern girl, I was taught by example that a gracious and proper host sets a gussied up table for company with special occasion china, fancy linens, and silver serving pieces. My mama’s classic, traditional style influenced my own style of creating spaces where we live, eat, and entertain. Your roots are probably woven into your current home’s look too. Familiar feels good. But adding a few trends makes it interesting and fun. The most eye-pleasing settings are a tasteful mix of different styles.
During my years of catering and entertaining, I had a knack for styling beautiful tables and food displays. All had elements of both classic and modern. I eventually developed a list of essentials for creating an inviting atmosphere. I love a setting that evokes cheerful energy and says “Come on over and enjoy. You’re special and I prepared this just for you.”
1. Simplicity - Filling every inch of the table with décor can look cluttered. Open space is easier on the eyes and gives guests an open view across the table for conversation.
2. Unique Touches - I like to include a few details that veer from the expected. Glass cubes with one floating stemless flower or a row of narrow vases with a single stem are sleek. Plants and bright produce give a surprisingly pretty look. Yard-cut greenery, woven among serving dishes and candlesticks, visually ties things together. Glass terrariums with succulents are fun. Household objects like antique boxes, collected artifacts, or even stacks of old books among votive candles are unexpected.
3. Texture and Height Variation - A contrast of textures and different heights on a table add interest. Use mixed materials for placemats and linens. Place ceramic vases among hammered
gold candlesticks. Combine tall and short pillar candles. Place dishes on boxes of varying heights hidden under a tablecloth.
4. Fresh Flowers, Plants and Greenery - This one requires no explanation. Artificial anything on your table sucks the life out of a party faster than a burnt turkey.
5. Colorful Food - Yes, I’m serious. A menu of roast beef with gravy, mashed potatoes, white lima beans, and angel food cake for dessert looks a little blah. Barbecued chicken with a variety of roasted vegetables, tri-colored potatoes, and a lemon pie has instant yummy appeal.
Bonus Tip: Light Snacks and a Flowing Bar Before Dinner - People won’t arrive all at once. Bowls of tiny crackers or nuts set out for guests to snack on while waiting won’t ruin appetites. Get the drinks going, because, well, drinks get everybody going.

With a client roster boasting the biggest names in touring, luxury coach company Dreamliner celebrated its first year in Music City. Offering a firsthand look at the comfort and attention to detail accommodations artists and touring personnel utilize year-round, Dreamliner CEO Jeremy Maul says, “It’s important to us as a company to bring the touring community together both on and off the road. We’ve worked really hard to become a trusted partner for artists/entertainers and their road families, and now that we’re headquartered here, we wanted to share what we’re excited about for not only the stars, but their management teams and bands/crews. It’s about comfort!”
With a fleet of almost 75 coaches, Dreamliner provides luxury transportation to rock, pop, hip-hop and country musicians throughout the country. Clients include Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, Jonas Brothers, Drake, The Cure, Chris Stapleton, Jon Pardi, and many more.
Maul previously shared with Gotham magazine, “My wife and I travel all over the world, and we’re big on staying at boutique hotels. I’ll look at yacht companies like Van Dutch or Solaris, because I like their design. I lived in Miami, so I love hotels like the Delano, the Fontainebleau and places like that. I always see what people are doing and what they’re putting in the minibars. I put myself in the mindset of, ‘Where is this celebrity when they travel? Where are they going to stay?’ They’re not staying at a Holiday Inn or a Marriott. They’re staying at a Four Seasons, a W, a Rosewood, or the Delano. So why not take design inspiration from that?”
“We pride ourselves on our attention to detail, quality and comfort,” Maul adds. “Whether it’s bringing fellow songwriters or even your producer on the road with you to record, we have a bus that can accommodate.”
Dreamliner also maintains west coast operations in Fontana, California. DreamlinerCoaches.com

AN ARTIST WHO THRIVES ON CRAFTING ONE-OF-A-KIND STAINED GLASS TREASURES
Growing up, Laura Goff Parham didn’t have many opportunities to see stained glass. It wasn’t until a backpacking trip through Europe during her senior year of college that she was exposed to the wonders of the craft. “It really changed the course of my life,” she says. “I loved the colors and the way they sparkled.”
After learning all she could through college and mastering the craft at various art studios, she founded Laura Goff Designs in Knoxville. She and her staff create beautiful, high-quality stained glass pieces for homes and businesses that often contain symbolic images or words. Over the past few decades, she has completed over 30,000 works of art.
Laura is always looking for design inspiration and finds it mostly through nature, especially trees. Clients also provide her with a lot of great ideas when they describe what they’re looking for in their custom-made pieces.
Her style is often described as traditional stained glass with a modern twist. “My finished products tend to be contemporary, but not so contemporary that people will look at them and wonder what they are,” says Laura. “Also my borders are very unusual and unique. I’ll paint designs or write words on them.”
For a music-themed piece she’s currently crafting, she’s writing various musical artists’ names in color with a black background. In between each artist’s name is a little musical note, so it’s kind of fun and funky.
Another one of her works involved using a stump that was dug out of the Tennessee River. “We shaped the stump and cut a piece of glass that was pushed down onto it so the stump protruded through a hole in the glass. Since the top wasn’t secure with just the stump, I had an
ironworker make leaves around the stump to support the glass, and then we sandblasted fish onto the glass. It was a real labor of love, but very cool.”
Laura’s works can be found all over the state, including in the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge and at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, where she completed a COVID-19 memorial that is loaded with symbols reflecting how the virus affected people’s lives.
Although she lives and works in Knoxville, many of her clients are from Franklin. She also works with designers in the area to create stained glass windows and leaded glass door kitchen cabinets in private homes. “Everything I do represents professionalism, and I thrive on creating,” she says. a luxurious home
WHAT’S TRENDING IN TODAY’S MARKET
ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANIHome buyers are becoming more and more discerning. They not only want big kitchens and expansive spaces to entertain family and friends, but they also want those luxury elements that take a property from being just a great home to a real showstopper.
Erin Krueger of The Erin Krueger Team at Compass in Nashville and her all-women team of Realtors ® know all about luxury, and right now, they’re representing a property that they believe encompasses everything a buyer could need and want. Custombuilt by Chandelier Development and located in the boutique gated community of Marshall Place in Brentwood, it’s filled with many of the in-demand extras buyers are seeking today.
With over 7,500 square feet of living space, the home makes an impression before people even walk inside. “There’s an Iron Lion front door which is just a must for luxury in the Middle Tennessee area,” she says. “Iron Lion is a local company out of Fairview that does exceptional work. The door is made of steel and has beautiful glass work - it just makes a statement.”
Instead of the more traditional living space on the main floor and bedrooms on the second floor, this home has a primary wing on the main floor, which is now more common than ever. “Main floor living is something that is very much in demand here in the Nashville area,” says Erin. “Buyers like that separation, and what's great about this home is there are two bedrooms on the main floor - a primary and a guest room - and then the other bedrooms are upstairs.”
Some of the things buyers will notice right away in the home are the unique and surprising details in every room. “There is this beautiful custom bar with custom cabinets,” she says. “This bar is open to the dining area that is great for entertaining, but the real focal point is the stone wine cellar. As you walk from the foyer into the living room, instead of putting a drywall there, they made it a glass wall so you can see all of the wine displayed. It’s a real work of art.”
Erin says a lot of buyers are also looking to incorporate organic accents. “One of the things you're going to see, for instance, is a beautiful white oak accented fireplace. Then you’ll notice a blend of those elements with blacks and whites, which is very popular.” For example, the primary en suite bathroom has a massive and beautiful matte black tub with white quartz countertops on the light-wood vanities. “Here you're seeing the organic with the juxtaposition between the statement of black and white.”
Wooden beams adorn the ceiling in the living room, combining a modern design with a little bit of
the rustic. “That transitional style is really what people are looking for in homes.”
Thoughtful details can be found in even the most practical places. “There’s a beautiful laundry/all-purpose room that has a matte black look with gold fixtures and a slate herringbone tile. It's just really dramatic and might actually make you want to do laundry.”
The outside of the home doesn’t disappoint either, and has many of the features home buyers require. Right in the heart of Brentwood, its location is accessible to everything including toprated schools. “It sits on a one-acre flat lot which are few and far between in this area, so that's a big plus,” says Erin. “It's also in a gated community, and we don’t have a lot of those in Middle Tennessee.” This is a huge bonus for buyers who want a higher level of privacy and security.
Since the backyard is a prime spot for a pool, she has already acquired renderings to show to prospective buyers. “We have such great weather here and people can sit outside under the covered patio and turn the backyard into their own oasis. I really want to show buyers what can be done.”
The Erin Krueger Team at Compass handles luxury listings throughout Nashville and Davidson and Williamson Counties. “We have a proven history,” says Erin. “All of our listings are beautifully staged and marketed to garner the best result. We constantly look at analytics and position properties to get them in front of the right buyers.”
Erin has an all-star team. “It’s all about collaboration. I've been doing this for nearly 20 years and have had a team for nearly 10 years, and it's important to find the right people. Our most important asset is culture. My team members are of all different ages and backgrounds. They bring so many different qualities to the team, and together we can bring so much value. I think that has really contributed to our success, not only on a local level, but on a national level.”

Along with the first days of fall comes Franklin’s annual Pilgrimage Music and Cultural Festival – an eclectic lineup of live music, food, arts, crafts and more all set against a backdrop of the beautiful 230 acres of Harlinsdale Farm. While festival-goers can enjoy live music both day and night, they can also enjoy features like the Americana Music Triangle Experience – an immersive celebration of historic, musical cities of the South along the Gold Record Road; Makers Village –the festival’s own marketplace of local, handcrafted goods; Farm to Turntable – a shady little spot on the farm where you can sit down, recharge, and enjoy some eats from your favorite food trucks; and Lil’ Pilgrims Family Stage – an area for kids to enjoy music and activities all their own. Admission is free for children under the age of seven accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. This year’s headliners include chart-toppers like The Lumineers, The Black Crowes, Zach Bryan, Ashley McBryde, Margo Price, Luke Grimes, Yola, and many others as part of a star-studded lineup. With two days and nights of music, activities, and fun for the whole family, Pilgrimage Festival is certainly worth the journey, great or small. PilgrimageFestival.com
The two-time Grammy-nominated Lumineers are touring in support of their fourth album, 2022’s Brightside. The album was top 10 in both the U.S. and Canada and the title track reached number one on Billboard’s Alternative National Airplay and Adult Alternative Airplay charts—the sixth time the band has topped the latter chart in less than 10 years. Last year’s tour saw more than 750,000 tickets sold across five continents, including two sold out stadium shows. TheLumineers.com
In 1990, when journalists were lamenting the death of rock, The Black Crowes gave the genre a swift and much needed shake up with the album, Shake Your Money Maker. Fueled by singles “Jealous Again,” “Twice As Hard,” “She Talks To Angels,” and the break-through cover of Otis Redding’s “Hard To Handle,” the band immediately took the rock world by storm. The Black Crowes went on to release eight studio and four live albums, selling in the tens of millions along the way. TheBlackCrowes.com
Stand For Myself is the anthemic new album from Yola, a sophisticated and diverse sonic mix of symphonic soul and classic. Yola’s inimitable vocals share nuanced stories of allyship, black feminine strength through vulnerability, collective awakening and loving connection from the sexual to the social. Yola declares that it is only when we stand for ourselves, and acknowledge our complexity, that we can be truly alive. IAmYola.com
Zach Bryan is a singer/songwriter from Oologah, Oklahoma, proud of his small-town roots and whose music is fueled by a desire to stay true to himself. The 25-year-old served seven years in the Navy before being honorably discharged. His success is found in his raspy voice, a mix of classic folk melody and outlaw country with a raw edge. Zach’s ability to create depth in his work is rivaled by few artists. He believes that who you are only extends to the person you are today, an ideology reflected in everything he creates. Margo Price has something to say but nothing to prove. In just three remarkable solo albums, the singer/songwriter has cemented herself as a force in American music and a generational talent. A deserving critical darling, she has never shied away from the sounds that move her, the pain that’s shaped her, or the topics that tick her off, like music industry double standards, the gender wage gap, or the plight of the American farmer. In 2021, she even joined the board of Farm Aid. MargoPrice.net
GRAMMY, CMA and ACM award winner Ashley McBryde cut her teeth playing country songs in biker bars – and it shows. With 11 songs all co-written by the Arkansas native, The Devil I Know is set for release on September 8, featuring chart-climbing lead single “Light On In The Kitchen,” along with the recently released title track, “Learned To Lie” and album opener “Made For This.” McBryde is currently on the road with headlining shows and festival stops throughout the summer along with dates on Jelly Roll’s Back Road Baptism Tour 2023 before returning to Middle Tennessee for Pilgrimage Festival. Known for his role as Kayce Dutton in Taylor Sheridan’s juggernaut, Yellowstone, Grimes recently launched his music career with the release of his single “No Horse To Ride” and its sync in Yellowstone’s mid-season finale. Grime’s soulful and brooding voice as well as his acute sense of songwriting has made him a recent favorite in Nashville amongst the creative community. Grimes debut album will be produced by Dave Cobb. His dedication to carving out a unique lane has excited enough folks to also earn him a recording deal with UMG Nashville. LukeGrimesMusic.com
ERNIE REYNOLDS IS HELPING CLIENTS CONNECT THEIR SPACES TO THE NATURAL WORLD AROUND THEM
Anyone with the requisite technical skills can design and build a functional and formidable hardscape. It would be unwise to hire someone who doesn’t have them.
But when it’s your investment, you’ll also want someone by your side – an advocate - who ensures that the job is not only a durable manifestation of your vision, but one that is priced fairly and exists harmoniously within the context of our natural landscape.
“It’s important to have someone who understands what creates value in our marketplace,” says Ernie Reynolds, owner of Holly Consults, a consulting company that serves as a liaison between the client and general contractor. “We advise on reasonable budgets, recommend sources for their style, and recommend landscape architects and designers who are qualified for the project. And we stay involved until the job is completed.”
Reynolds, a licensed general contractor, opened Holly Consults in January and brings 40 years of experience to his clients. The Williamson County native
“My work is greatly influenced by the natural world.”
has specialty classifications in masonry, landscaping, carpentry, concrete and irrigation. He’s also a certified arborist. The combination of professional credentials, local knowledge and decades of experience makes him a trusted resource for those who are considering a significant renovation of their outdoor space.
But Reynolds has a cerebral side that lends depth to his work. In addition to his technical expertise, Reynolds holds a Ph.D. in creative writing and literature, with an emphasis on Southern literature. He’s been published in several literary journals and is inspired by notable writers with strong ties to the region, like Larry Brown, William Gay and Cormac McCarthy. “Writing is something I began more in earnest after shifting gears from construction and general contracting to being a consultant,” he says. “I write short fiction, like Brown and Gay, but it has nothing to do with the elements that we’re talking about.”
While his storylines aren’t related to his business, both are inspired by the same source. “My work is greatly influenced by the natural world,” he says. “I think we can make a connection between the aesthetics of our work to the natural world around us.” Those elements impact everything from design to the selection of materials and the choice of foliage. Reynolds says that the severe weather conditions of the past year should serve as a reminder of the importance of utilizing native plants and shrubs.
“Native plants are those that were established prior to European colonization,” he says. “They’ve adapted and grown here for centuries and should be considered as alternatives to exotics, especially exotic invasives. When we lose century-old trees, we need to replace them with trees that our great grandchildren can enjoy. We live in a beautiful natural forest with native plants and trees that have been DNA-engineered over centuries to survive the crazy weather events that Middle Tennessee throws at us. It just makes sense.” HollyConsults.com
There’s a difference between bespoke and custom, with bespoke meaning every aspect of an item is built entirely for the person wearing it. That’s the name of the game at Richards Bespoke, where more than 40 measurements are taken to construct the perfect suit for their clients.
The incredibly personalized experience has caught the attention of agents and players making up some of the biggest names in sports, from the Miami Marlins’ Jacob Stallings to the Philadelphia Eagles’ A.J. Brown.
In early 2020, Stephen Richards, Jr., owner of Richards Bespoke, received a fateful voicemail from an NFL agent representing college football star, Tua Tagovailoa. “He was doing
his leg rehab in Nashville, and he needed a suit for the draft. He asked if I wanted to do it. That was a dumb question.”
With his whole family in tow, Tua came to the store two weeks later to get fitted for his suit, noting he wanted a custom lining that paid homage to his grandparents as a surprise. The traditional NFL draft was soon thwarted by Covid, but Stephen hand-delivered the suit to Tua before the big day anyway. When he was ultimately selected fifth overall by the Miami Dolphins, Tua flashed his custom suit lining, catching the attention of media outlets nationwide.
“He was the only player selected in the first round that wore a suit,’ Stephen shared.
Richards Bespoke also consistently outfits two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “I go to Kansas City to help him pick out suits for the season, and also for off-season occasions like weddings and awards shows.”
Stephen works together with Patrick to completely customize his looks every time he suits up, including everything from
his Super Bowl outfits to his own wedding day attire. Today, Richards Bespoke works with tons of Chiefs fans eager to get their own bespoke suit from the same place as their idol.
While Richards Bespoke has become known for dressing the stars, the most impactful celebrity Stephen has worked with is a local young man with Down syndrome, Jon Starr.
“Jon is obsessed with fashion and wanted to come in and get his own suit. He’d been saving up for it,” Stephen shared. “He’s four feet tall and he can’t find anything to fit him anywhere. His suit fit great, and he was so excited about it.”
Stephen and Jon took a photo together that was shared on social media, leading to a moment so viral, the Richards Bespoke website crashed. Gift cards soon flooded in so Jon could continue getting custom clothing to look and feel his best.
Stephen describes his career as a hobby that he gets paid for, and he’s truly passionate about high quality clothing and men’s fashion. To book an appointment for your own bespoke suit, visit RichardsBespoke.com
expand because galleries are vital when viewing original artwork.”
You can’t miss Stonebridge Art Gallery’s new home in the Factory, because thanks to its stateof-the-art contemporary lighting, it’s a literal bright light in the retail corridor. In addition to lighting, the new space is unique in that most everything is on wheels.
“I wanted to be able to rearrange the gallery by myself in 10 minutes if needed,” Don shares. “If we wanted to do a class or have an event in-house, we can easily move a wall to create more space.”
The Factory at Franklin has become a destination for both locals and tourists alike, packed with shops, restaurants, event venues and sweet treats. We’re all anxiously anticipating its revitalization, which includes the addition of several top-notch restaurants, a theater and a central bar, but though a touch of “new” is on its way, the Factory will still stay true to its historic roots.
Stonebridge Art Gallery was one of the first tenants in the Factory when local real estate developer Calvin Lehew converted the former stove factory to a retail destination. The gallery’s original owner, Ron Burr, believed in Lehew’s vision for the space to be art-forward. Today, the gallery remains strong, bringing globally-curated pieces to the heart of Franklin.
“We have moved around several times during the Factory’s renovation, but I wanted more space,” shares Don Metzger, who took over ownership of Stonebridge Art Gallery together with his wife, Colleen, in 2019. “Covid reaffirmed for me that people have to see art live. That’s when I knew I wanted to grow and
Much like the gallery’s physical displays, the art showcased is ever-changing. In fact, only around 10 percent of its collection is on the walls at any given time, but shoppers have the opportunity to peruse stacks of original artwork on canvas that can be stretched and framed after purchasing. The gallery features more than 75 artists and more than 400 pieces of art.
“Our selection is curated globally,” Don adds. “We feature artists from multiple continents. When we were in our smaller space, we were limited on how many artists we could display at one time. In our new, larger space, we can showcase more artists and artwork simultaneously.”
In the new space, expect to find a wide variety of styles and sizes from abstracts to landscapes and figurative work, bright and soft colors, texture and no texture. “Stylistically, if you can’t find something in here you like, I’ve done something horribly wrong,” Don laughs.
While the art is curated from around the world, Stonebridge strives to be a locally-owned source for beautiful, global pieces. The gallery draws customers from the local community, but also taps into Franklin tourism as well as attracting repeat customers from surrounding towns
ONE OF THE FACTORY’S ORIGINAL TENANTS IS STILL GOING STRONG
like Lexington, Bristol, Memphis and more. Don’s wife and gallery co-owner, Colleen, is a local artist and art teacher at an area school, and her stunning cyanotype artwork is also available to view and purchase. She can also create custom pieces.
“We say we offer art from around the world, and next door,” Don shares. “We aren’t pretentious. We want to be approachable to people who don’t necessarily have a fine arts background. Whether this is your first original artwork purchase, or you are adding to your collection, we offer really high-quality artwork at an accessible price point. We like to think of ourselves as the “un” gallery.”
While Stonebridge Art Gallery settles into its new space in the Factory, Don and Colleen are thrilled to watch the renovation progress unfold around them. “Much like Ron did in 1998, I believe in what Holladay Properties is doing with The Factory,” Don adds. “This place is going to be fabulous when they’re done. I’m excited to have more space near the restaurants so people can window shop even when we’re closed.”
Every piece Stonebridge Art Gallery houses is available to view on its website, but as Don shared, art takes on a whole new life in person. The stunning new space is now open and welcoming anyone to browse and shop.

Nestled in the hills of Thompson’s Station, the 2023 Idea House is a 5,600 square-foot home that blends a contemporary feel with the warmth and character of a classic Tennessee farmhouse. This year’s Idea House was built and designed with an eye to the future, and sustainability was considered throughout the process, such as selecting energy-efficient windows and appliances, sourcing antique and local furnishings, and prioritizing natural and biodegradable materials. Inspired by its proximity to Music City, the home features a music room complete with a piano, a party barn primed for entertaining, and decor inspired by local artists.
“We’re calling this our country house as a nod to Music City, and to the fact that it was designed to embrace its beautiful rural setting,” said Sid Evans, Editor in Chief of Southern Livin g. “This home is all about a connection to the land, and that comes through in design choices that
prioritize sustainability, endless porches for entertaining and living outside, and plants everywhere.”
The 2023 Idea House was created by a talented team of experts including interior designer Laura Hodges of Laura Hodges Studio, architects Bill Holloway and Luke Sippel of Lake & Land Studio, builders Mary and Patrick Hatcliff of Hatcliff Construction, and landscape designer Butch Hamby of Southern Creations Landscaping.
The home, located at 3921 Perkins Road in Thompson’s Station, is now open to the public for tours through December 17. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Hands On Nashville, Harpeth Conservancy, and Make-A-Wish Middle Tennessee. In November, the Idea House will be decorated for the holidays, with activations to be scheduled in celebration of the season. To purchase tickets, visit HatcliffConstruction.com
ARTICLE BY MARIA DINOIA | PHOTOGRAPHY BY LAUREY GLENN STYLING BY ZOE GOWENAndrea Hanna has always had a creative streak and an eye for style. Even though she did not start in the fashion business, living in Los Angeles and working in the entertainment industry, she was certainly around it. Straight out of college, Andrea started working as a comedy writer in both film and television. “I love to make people laugh,” she admits. Comedy gave her that outlet, but the hours were long and she felt like she was always trying to catch a break.
After having two children, Andrea decided to take some time off to be a fulltime mom. When her son started preschool, she wanted to do something but still maintain a work-life balance. A friend told her, “You are always shopping and giving people styling tips, so you should be a stylist.” Andrea liked that idea and started styling both men and women through Stitch Fix®—a subscription personal styling service. “It was like boot camp for a stylist. I styled over a thousand clients and it taught me so much about fit and brands.”
After a few years, Andrea decided to start her own styling business, working predominantly through Nordstrom. She would meet clients at their home and discuss their styling goals. Often this appointment would start with a closet edit and end with a shopping plan. “Many of my clients did not enjoy shopping, so I would shop on my own and present a style story. It was so much fun!” she says. Her most valuable lesson learned after years as a stylist was that most women are highly critical of themselves. “Every woman has something they don’t like about their bodies. I hated hearing - ‘I look awful’ - on the other side of the curtain. My goal was to hear, ‘Wow! I look amazing,’” says Andrea.
In addition to her styling experience, Andrea’s genuine interest in making people smile, drives her to dress people to look their best and feel happy about how they look. “I always tell women to get clothes that fit now,” she says. “You deserve to feel good in your body at any size or age.”
Andrea and her family moved to College Grove in 2018 after her husband’s company transitioned to Nashville. Although they were not required to move, after
visiting Nashville, Andrea states, “Our eyes were opened.” They realized Tennessee would be a great place to live and raise their kids. Andrea opened her first stylist-run boutique in College Grove in 2018 called, Goldfinch Boutique. Although successful, the store was off the beaten path, so Andrea decided to move to a more accessible location with improved foot traffic. In March of this year, she opened Society Boutique in Berry Farms. “We are working on a rewards program, the Style Society, as well as a charitable aspect to the business called the Giving Society in which we would donate money and/or clothing to local charities to make a positive impact,” she says.
Society Boutique offers luxury classic and contemporary clothing at affordable prices. “Customers love our high-end feel but are pleasantly surprised when they see our price tags,” Andrea says. “We love offering our customers complementary styling advice. It’s all about building relationships and getting to know our customers and their needs.”
When she’s not working, Andrea loves spending time with her family and friends. She recently started taking tennis lessons and playing golf. “I especially love the cute athletic outfits,” she cheerfully adds. Andrea exudes style both at work and in her personal life. One could say the fashion industry is her perfect “fit.” SocietyFranklin.com

“This is one of my favorite things to do. When updating a home, I believe lighting is one of the biggest changes you can make to accomplish that. Our designers put together new lighting plans and then we follow with furnishings and décor.”
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR CLIENTS MOVING INTO NEW CONSTRUCTION?
“We can start planning your interiors as soon as you have a floor plan! We often come in and select all initial lighting, find the perfect spots to pop fun wallpaper, and create a beautifully furnished space from the ground up.”
AND EMPTY
“Home transitions are a huge need that we work with often. The key is determining what we can bring to the new home and focusing on what is usually a change of scale from the family home to the empty nest. Our Franklin design manager, Patricia Robbins, just did this for a wonderful couple who moved from their Franklin house to a downtown condo. We were able to incorporate several pieces from their home and give them an entirely new look by adding elements that changed up the style and feel.”
“We work with clients on all sizes of projects. We can furnish an entire home or one room. What makes us special is our ability to be a one-stop-shop for everyone. We can help as much or as little as you need and our team loves working on all different sizes and styles of jobs.”

TENNESSEE FAMOUS (AND NOT SO FAMOUS) PLACES TO VISIT
Tennessee is full of famous and lesser-known wonders. One of the nation’s premier whitewater recreational rivers, The Ocoee River, rushes through a picturesque gorge in the state's southeastern corner. Just minutes from Chattanooga, seven states can be seen from the summit of Lookout Mountain. Did you know The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited national park in the United States, and Graceland is the second most visited house in the country? Amidst the peaks and valleys of Gatlinburg, the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort boasts the world's largest artificial skiing surface. In contrast, beneath the surface, Tennessee proudly claims the highest number of recorded caves in the United States. From roaring rivers to majestic mountaintops and cultural icons, we invite you to make plans to visit some (or all!) of these Tennessee destinations.
The Ocoee River has earned a reputation as one of the premier whitewater recreational rivers in the United States. Its thrilling rapids, scenic beauty, and rich history have captivated adventure seekers and outdoor enthusiasts for decades. The Ocoee River's classification as a top-tier whitewater destination stems from its exceptional rapids and challenging stretches. Its rapids range from class III to class IV, offering an exhilarating experience for both novice and experienced paddlers. In 1996, the Ocoee River gained international recognition when it was chosen to host the whitewater canoe/kayak competition during the Summer Olympics held in Atlanta. The world's top athletes converged on the river, showcasing their mastery of the sport and competing for gold. Beyond its Olympic legacy, the Ocoee River continues to draw visitors from far and wide. Rafting companies offer guided trips, allowing adventurers to experience the thrill of navigating the rapids firsthand.
Lookout Mountain, located near Chattanooga, offers a breathtaking vantage point that allows visitors to witness a truly awe-inspiring sight. On a clear day, one can see a remarkable panorama that encompasses seven different states. Visitors atop Lookout Mountain can see Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
The most visited National Park in the United States, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, attracts twice as many visitors each year as the second most-visited national park, the Grand Canyon. Named for the smoke-like bluish haze which often envelops these mountains, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park spans over 500,000 acres along the borders of Tennessee and North Carolina and showcases the unparalleled beauty of the Appalachian Mountains. One of the reasons for the park's immense popularity is its accessibility. Located within a day's drive of two-thirds of the U.S. population, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers over 800 miles of trails, ranging from leisurely strolls to challenging hikes, as well as opportunities for camping, fishing, wildlife viewing, and enjoyment of the majestic views.
Located in Memphis is Graceland, the iconic home of the King of Rock' n' Roll, Elvis Presley. Graceland's significance goes far beyond being just a residence; it has become a symbol of Elvis's life and career, attracting fans and visitors worldwide. As the second most visited house in the country (second only to The White House), fans and enthusiasts flock to Graceland to pay homage to the legendary musician, to walk in his footsteps, and to get a glimpse into his personal life. Graceland offers visitors an intimate and immersive experience, allowing them to explore Elvis's former residence and see firsthand the rooms, artifacts, and memorabilia that embody his unique style and taste. Graceland provides a captivating journey through Elvis's life and career, from the opulent Jungle Room to the Trophy Building filled with awards and accolades. The preservation of Elvis's home and the meticulous care taken to maintain its original charm make it an extraordinary place for fans and music enthusiasts.
Nestled in Gatlinburg, the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort boasts a remarkable feat of engineering and recreation—the world's largest artificial skiing surface. Spanning an impressive 5 acres, this artificial ski surface offers skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to hit the slopes regardless of weather conditions. The innovative technology behind the artificial skiing surface is meticulously designed to mimic the texture and feel of real snow, providing skiers and snowboarders with an authentic skiing experience. It allows beginners to learn and practice their skills while also catering to more experienced riders who can test their abilities on the slopes.
According to the Tennessee Cave Survey, Tennessee has more than 10,000 caves, which is the highest number of recorded caves for an individual state in the United States and accounts for 20 percent of all known caves in the country. Tennessee's underground wonders offer adventure seekers and nature lovers a unique experience. These underground marvels feature stunning formations, intricate passages, and hidden chambers. Tennessee caves are a source of natural beauty and are vital to scientific research and conservation. These subterranean ecosystems provide a habitat for unique species, some only found in Tennessee. Moreover, Tennessee's caves have cultural significance, with several cave systems having historical and archaeological importance. Many caves have served as shelters, meeting places, and ceremonial sites for Native American tribes throughout history. From the stunning formations of stalactites and stalagmites to the mysterious darkness that beckons exploration, Tennessee's caves are a haven for spelunking enthusiasts and cave explorers alike.

Tamara Day, star of HGTV’s Bargain Mansions, describes her style as “laid-back luxe.”
“I am a mom of four, and I like pretty, shiny things,” Tamara says. “The two don’t always mix well. I design with lifestyle and family in mind but with that touch of glam.”
This mixture of practicality and flare can be accomplished throughout the home on a budget, Tamara says.
When it comes to the kitchen, she says replacing the backsplash is one of the most cost-effective ways to refresh the room. Additionally, she says paint is the most inexpensive option to update cabinets, and there is a de-glosser on the market that will reduce the labor involved by helping paint adhere to cabinets.
“You can get a whole new kitchen with some fresh paint,” Tamara says.
In the bathroom, Tamara suggests putting up new light fixtures and wallpaper for a fresh look. She suggests using wallpaper on just one wall to create contrast.
“Wallpaper transforms everything and puts in a hominess factor,” Tamara says.
To give a new feel to the living room, Tamara suggests using decorative pillows as well as displaying design books and layering with a candle or other interesting object to create a sentimental focal point. She also suggests investing in good, quality sofas
HGTV star shares her secrets to make a home look both beautiful and livable.
and rugs because less expensive options will not typically withstand the amount of wear and tear they receive from a family.
Overall, Tamara says there is a balance between mixing expensive and inexpensive items and materials around the home, all without having it looking cluttered. She says every space needs something that is thrifted.
Tamara finds many people enjoy elements of different types of styles and have a hard time defining their personal style. To help narrow down to a preferred look, she suggests taking a hundred room images and sorting them into piles of likes and dislikes. She says when someone completes this exercise, they typically find a theme to their preferences.
Tamara has a natural eye for using great colors and textures in design. What is her approach to making a room look great?
HERE ARE TAMARA’S TOP TIPS: Find a base color with pops of other colors.
“Every room needs a touch of black and a pop of color,” Tamara says. “The black will anchor it, but the color will give it life.”
If the home is urban, she suggests more bold pops. If it is a traditional home, use a mixture of colors. Additionally, she suggests using one basic color throughout a home with pops of other colors as opposed to having a different color in each room.
Consider wallpaper.
“Wallpaper can be scary for a lot of people, but there are so may wallpapers out there that are removable,” Tamara says.
Tamara says wallpaper adds texture and warmth, and she includes it in most of the homes she designs.
Layer with baskets, blankets and greenery. All three make a room feel cozy and add color and interest to a space.
Humans have always had a penchant for propagation. Since king Nebuchadnezzar II built The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (one of the original Seven Wonders of the World) in the sixth century BC, artful gardening has fascinated folks. Today, there is a growing trend (pun intended) in home design that echoes that need to nurture, albeit on a much smaller scale. It goes by many names. Environmentalists refer to them as “green walls” or “ecowalls”. Gardeners may prefer “garden wall” or “edible wall”. Designers have dubbed them “statement walls”. But for our purposes here, we will refer to them as the architects do - as “vertical gardens”.
A vertical garden is essentially a wall, or part of a wall, that is covered with plants growing in soil or another type of medium. Though they began as outdoor architectural attractions, these wonderful wallscapes are popping up indoors, and their benefits go beyond a fancy facade.
The most obvious benefit of a vertical garden is the visual beauty it brings to the room. Its unexpected presence adds surprise and drama, while its living tenants, with their varied textures and individual personalities, add energy and a bit of charm as well.
Beyond the aesthetic advantages, living walls have health benefits. They improve the air quality by adding humidity, trapping dust particles, and absorbing many harmful gasses, replacing them with oxygen. They can help with cardiovascular issues like blood pressure as well as breathing problems associated with allergies and asthma. Because they lend a sense of calm and well being, they can even improve concentration, elevate mood, and reduce stress.
Because these living walls are becoming more popular, demand is driving the price down making them more affordable for the average homeowner. Kits are available and most feature an integrated water delivery system which makes them low maintenance as well.
As for which types of plants to grow, succulents, mosses, grasses, and ferns are all good choices. Tropical vines work well also as they can trail down or climb up. Pothos and philodendrons have great climbing capabilities, are fast growing, and low maintenance. The design possibilities are as endless as the plant combinations. So bring the outside in! Simply choose a location with bright, indirect light, and turn your wall into a living piece of artwork with a vertical garden.

Most of us can say we have that one staple black dress that can be worn at any occasion, and the classic look is not only popular but is elegant and timeless. It is the dress in our closet that can be accessorized to fit the event and often is the dress we go back to time and again. It is one of the most versatile items we own, never goes out of style and looks good on anyone. But how did this classic look originate?
Prior to the 1920’s, black was reserved for funeral wear, but when Coco Channel made the bold move to print a short, black dress on the cover of Vogue in 1926, all of that changed. The popularity of the black dress skyrocketed, and it became one of the most influential pieces of clothing. Chanel transported fashion from tight corsets and bustles to straightlined silhouettes. Because of its affordability, black remained a popular choice during The Great Depression. The black dress had another boom in popularity when “Breakfast at Tiffany’s’’ debuted, and Audrey Hepburn showcased her iconic black dress with long, black gloves. Today, people accessorize the black dress to fit any occasion.
We enlisted the help of stylist, Amani Skalacki, to show us how versatile the little black dress can be.
OF THE MOST influential PIECES OF CLOTHING.
“We usually think of the little black dress as a piece you wear to an event. However, because black is so flattering on all body types and skin tones, women have multiple black dresses from casual to evening,” Amani says. “I selected this collection of dresses to show the versatility of the black dress and to give women some new ideas of how to wear the evening gown with a train on a night out with her girlfriends or the traditional summer strappy maxi dress while running errands in cooler temperatures.”
Although black is a timeless, classic look, that doesn’t mean it goes without personality. You can make it your own style by accessorizing to infuse new life into a dress that you already own.
“A sequin dress can be dressed up with heels, or that same dress can be transformed into a casual outfit with the addition of tennis shoes and an oversized blazer or a denim jacket. Transform that strappy dress you have been wearing all summer into an outfit that is perfect for chilly fall temperatures. Add a narrow scarf, a leather jacket and sandals or a tall pointy boot, and you have a whole new look for an evening out,” Amani adds.
If you have a dress in the back of your closet that you haven’t worn in years, don’t be afraid to dust it off and give it new life. “Take that evening gown you wore years ago to a tailor for a little transformation. Turn it into a high low dress-top that can be worn out with girlfriends or on a date night. Pair the top with leather leggings, ankle boots, a chunky belt and some statement jewelry, and now you have a piece that pushes the boundaries of the little black dress.”
Cary Hatcher, FNP-BC, ABAAHP, FAAMM has been a nurse practitioner for 21 years He is a fellow of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine Cary specializes in weight loss and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy
"Helping patients balance their hormones has been the most rewarding aspect of my career I have the privilege of helping people get back to feeling their normal self again Hormone replacement is for women as well as men Testosterone starts decreasing in men in their mid-thirties and steadily declines each year Symptoms of low testosterone can be low energy irritability weight gain loss of muscle mass, low libido, and erectile dysfunction In women I typically see symptoms of irritability weight gain low libido poor sleep brain fog hot flashes and night sweats Balancing your hormones can not only minimize (or even eliminate) these symptoms, but can also reduce the risk of certain cancers osteoporosis heart disease aging skin and cognitive decline We only use bio-identical hormones, which are exactly the same asyour body makes We do not use synthetic hormones as these can lead to unwanted side effects We administer the hormones by placing a hormone pellet under the skin This provides a steady release of the hormone(s) over a few months, without the roller coaster that injections or creams can cause I m truly fortunate to be able to help people get their life back Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy can significantly improve someone s quality of life ”
ALTHOUGH BLACK IS A timeless, classic LOOK, THAT DOESN’T MEAN IT GOES WITHOUT personality . YOU CAN MAKE IT YOUR OWN STYLE BY accessorizing TO INFUSE NEW LIFE INTO A DRESS THAT YOU ALREADY OWN.
