that comes with Spring. This issue has been so much fun to put together. We have partnered with the well known Sizzle Awards and are so excited to announce the 2021 Sizzle Award Winners around Williamson County. Check them out and congratulate them! Remember… the owners of these businesses live, shop, and are raising their families here as well. Anyone who has recently purchased or sold a house here knows firsthand that our real estate market in Franklin never had any lulls, but it shifts into high gear in April! We have so many talented and educated agents who love living in Franklin so we’ve spotlighted two of them and their expertise. Spring also means it’s time to spend some time outside. BRENTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE STARTS BUSINESS TO PROTECT THE COMMUNITY Brentwood High alum, CEO and Co-Founder of Unity PPE, a woman-owned and operated business, Savannah Cleveland, came up with an idea, along with her uncle, to solve the challenge of maintaining safety in the midst of a global pandemic without fogging up your glasses. It’s a common complaint that has vexed eyeglass wearers during the COVID-19 pandemic: how to wear a face mask without fogging up glasses due to excessive moisture and humidity. Now an innovative personal protective equipment provider, Unity PPE, has introduced SEALS, hypoallergenic foam inserts engineered to fit faces of all shapes and sizes, eliminate eyeglass fogging, and improve a face mask’s overall comfort and protection. Unity PPE partnered with Porex, a worldwide leader in porous polymers, to engineer this innovative foam solution. SEALS are easily inserted with double-sided tape along a face mask, which is then aligned to the center of the nose bridge on the mask. Once inserted, wearers will find the mask more comfortable, and the foam absorbs sweat and humidity. With the purchase of a SEALS product, one will be donated to a CONTINUED >

“Come see how we rol l at M i key’s Motors” - Ow ner M i ke Wi l l ia mson
MIKE WILLIAMSON HAS BEEN IN THE CAR BUSINESS SINCE THE 70’S. After finding his niche in golf carts, he opened Mikey’s Motors in Murfreesboro in 2009. Mike’s wife works by his side doing HR, making Mickey’s Motors a truly locally owned and operated business. In September 2020, they opened their second location in Franklin, a hot spot for golfers and golf cart-friendly neighborhoods. General Manager, Kaley Brownlee says, “It’s similar to the car industry, but we make it as painless as possible. It’s important to us to take care of our customers.” Whether you buy new or used, your cart will stay in top condition with their on-site maintenance packages and battery checks. They also have weekend rentals available for tournaments, weddings, and other events. Mikey’s is proud to be the largest low-speed dealer in Tennessee and to have been named the top 20 dealer for E-Z-GO golf carts in the country this year. Their E-Z-GO ELiTE Lithium model is one of the best sustainable carts to explore in. In fact, they are 59% more efficient than others on the market. No matter what charge the battery is at, the power stays consistent. This reliable ride has an 8 year battery warranty. Compared to gas-powered carts, electric carts are inexpensive, less maintenance, faster, and quieter. More and more people are discovering the benefits of owning an electric golf cart, whether they’re a golfer or not. The staff at Mikey’s Motors makes finding the best golf cart for your lifestyle easy. MikeysMotors.com CityLifestyle.com/Franklin

“When my wife and I were looking for a trust attorney we interviewed four different attorneys. We were most impressed by Justin Gilbert’s breadth and depth of knowledge. He listened carefully to our needs and requirements and he recommended we create a grantor trust for our taxable assets and retirement trust for our pretax assets. He was the only attorney who was knowledgeable about retirement trust and the benefits such trust would offer. I am a very detailed person, I read every word of the documents and I require that I understand everything in the trusts. Justin answered all my questions to my satisfaction and readily agreed to make changes that I wished to make. At no time did Justin show impatience with my requests or inquiries. Justin always met his commitments to deliver draft documents or changes there to. There will come a time when our children will need an attorney’s services to settle our estate in accordance with the terms of our trusts. My instructions to them is to employ and depend on Justin’s services. I HIGHLY recommend Justin to anyone who needs a trust attorney. I am very hard to please because I like perfection. That is what I pay for and Justin delivered.”

And when it comes to valuing his employees, Chris takes it even one step further. “The greatest asset we have is the people who make up USS. When you have a culture like we do, when you put your employees first, you automatically get your customers taken care of.” USS is a family-owned and operated foundation repair company founded in 1994. And it has been this positive culture and sincere appreciation for its employees that has contributed to USS’s significant growth in the home repair market for the past 27 years. fac t s Blind Date (with a vision)
Nancy and Marty met on a double-blind date, though they weren’t on the date with each other. By the next week, they were on date number two and as Marty says he “traded up.” After getting her home 15 minutes late for curfew and in a bit of trouble, Marty sent Nancy a dozen yellow roses the next day.
Homefield Advantage
In the mid-1980s, Vanderbilt University recruited Doug to play football. He was a defensive lineman and majored in Economics.
A Good Eye
The Warrens love not only original art but favor original local art. One piece Nancy particularly enjoys is one that hangs in their home by Franklin artist, Jerry Quinlisk.
Travel Makes the Heart Grow Fonder
While they love Franklin life, traveling is a huge hobby. They most recently got back from 30A and you can find remnants of trips to Cannes and Paris and other wonderful locations throughout their home.
Out on the Town - Together
They not only work together, but the team likes to be together and that includes going to new restaurants and frequenting their favorites: 5th and Taylor, Adele’s, the bar inside 1799, the newly reopened Geist and the temporarily closed Red Pony.

117 THIRD AVENUE IN DOWNTOWN FRANKLIN IS HOME TO THE MOST CHARMING AND DELIGHTFUL STORE, THE KIND POPPY. The building The Kind Poppy resides in was constructed in 1890 and was the original carriage house to the home on Third Avenue. Owner Autumn Grant calls it "a diamond in the rough." The former home of Haute Dogge grooming, the property itself exudes character and Autumn's friendly sparkle adds to the charm of the place.

The Kind Poppy carries an eclectic mix of products for bath, body and home, including all-natural room sprays and candles. They also offer ethically made and sourced fashion and handmade jewelry - all to support other independent brands and small businesses. Autumn's journey to business owner wasn't in her original plans. "We’re from Illinois and my husband got a job here right out of grad school. When I first moved here I was an office manager. I really had no direction. I wasn’t using my degree. We’d moved so quickly, but I just completely fell in love with Franklin. I knew it was home." Autumn's degree was in cosmetology, where she'd found her love and desire for all natural products. She continues, "During that time, my dad, who I call Poppy got sick. And I felt so helpless being in Tennessee while he was in Illinois. I didn’t know what to do, so I just started making bath bombs as a medical fundraiser. That was the catalyst. Everyone said ‘These are the most amazing bath bombs – my body feels so soft.' I was using all natural products. I fell in love with doing it. But I never thought I would have my own business.

She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year and has now since found a manufacturer who can take her recipes and make them. She adds, "Everything is all natural, vegan and cruelty free. I wanted everything to be kind for the environment." This story does have a happy ending. Autumn is managing her own health and her Poppy who fought for his life for six months, is still here on earth to see the amazing store

Nashville Native, Sarah Pounder and her husband Ilex began curating gift packages for a former employer to share with their top clients. While shopping small wasn’t as widely encouraged as it is now, the Pounders were passionate about including gifts from local artisans and businesses. Personally, the couple enjoyed visiting the Franklin Farmer’s Market and craft shows and wanted to share some of their favorite Nashville goods in these company packages. They

KNOWING
YOU’RE

IS
WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD. Trish Egan is a realtor who has been in your shoes. When it comes to moving your life, she understands the process. Egan has lived it. It’s now her career path and passion to guide you through one of the biggest decisions of your life. Egan has lived in Michigan, New York, Charleston, Denver and Nashville. Through the many moves, she has learned the importance of a safe space, a home sanctuary to hang your hat and create loving memories. She wants you to feel at home wherever you land, and recognizes what that requires. It’s a bit different for everyone. Tricia says, "My husband is a news anchor

and we moved from Charleston to Denver to Nashville pretty quickly. There are so many balls in the air - it can be hard to stay organized." Egan makes the transitions smooth, fun, and loves to spoil her clients. Egan is a graduate of Michigan State University. She laughs, "I ran track in college and while I wasn't the star, Coach often had me host recruits. I loved selling them on our school. Welcoming people, making them feel at home and plugged-in is in my blood." Egan has a well-versed background in sales, and has been in real estate for the last few years. "It's an emotional sale. I love people and the relationship means so much to me. Gaining their friendship and trust as I help them navigate is an honor. I've made incredible, lifelong friends through real estate.” The mother of three kids, 5, 3, and 6-months adds, "I understand a move can be about much more than just the house. It’s not merely marketing their current place, or selling a new home. I take pride in taking care of my people, providing guidance and personal touches that make it a memorable experience." Navigating a move, welcoming a 3rd baby in a pandemic, taking care of client needs, and believing and investing in the Franklin community, are all a part of what makes Trish Egan authentic. HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
Benefits of a
chemical-free home
HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO TURN YOUR HOUSEHOLD CHEMICAL-FREE? It's not as hard as you might think! We hear a lot about the dangers of chemical ingredients, but it's easy to ignore all of the warnings and keep using our favorite products. When you don't know of a better alternative, it's just what you do! However, all of those ingredients add up and can make a big difference in your health, as well as the health of your family and pets. The products that are most important to swap out depend on your lifestyle and what you use the most. If your little ones are eating food right off of the counter, you might consider the ingredients from the cleaner you just used to wipe it down and start by switching to a natural method.

If you have sensitive skin, you might start by taking inventory of your beauty and personal care products to see what you can replace. To get you started, here are three DIY products that you can make yourself for your chemical-free home.

DIY Scented Body Moisturizer Just like a new candle can brighten your day, a shimmery scented lotion can make you feel like a queen. The only problem is all of the artificial fragrances, alcohols, dyes, and other chemicals that your skin is absorbing from that bottle. There are some cleaner options such as unscented lotions, but that's a lot less fun. This DIY moisturizer allowed you to customize your own scent while still treating your skin the best you can. The key ingredient? Olive oil! Yes, any bottle of olive oil from your kitchen works. Pour some in a smaller bottle and add several drops of your favorite essential oils. Olive oil is super hydrating, feels great, and will make you question why you ever used lotion in the first place. Plus it's safe for your whole body. Just be mindful of the essential oils you choose. Some types—such as peppermint, eucalyptus, or tea tree oils—cause a cooling effect and can feel uncomfortable if it gets on your face or other sensitive areas.
DIY Counter Cleaner: Safe for Granite + Marble! You probably know that vinegar is a great natural cleaner for most surfaces. Unfortunately, it can be pretty damaging to delicate countertops made from granite or marble. Here's a DIY cleaning spray that's safe for any type of counters you have!
Ingredients + Rubbing alcohol + Dish soap
+ Essential Oils + Water
Directions In a plastic or glass spray bottle, mix one part alcohol with one part water. Add several drops of dish soap and whichever essential oils you would like to add for your desired scent. Shake it up each time you use it as the ingredients will tend to separate. Although it's natural and safe, still avoid spraying directly on your skin as the alcohol and dish soap can dry you out.

DIY Laundry Scent Enhancer If you have ever added those popular scent beads to your load of laundry before, you know how lovely it is to pull your amazingly scented clothes out of the dryer. The funny thing about a product like that is it truly has no purpose other than adding a good smell, but it does add lots of chemicals to your daily life! There's a safer and more beneficial way to make your clothes smell heavenly. Try this DIY scent enhancer with your next load of laundry and put it to the test.
Ingredients 3 parts Epsom Salt + 1 part Baking Soda + Essential Oils
Directions Mix your ingredients together in a jar or canister and scoop about ¼ cup directly into the washer basin before adding the clothes—just like you would with scented beads. Continue with your laundry like normal.

While these three recipes give you a great start, that's definitely not all you can do to kick the chemicals out of your home. For more information on starting a chemical-free household, you can browse online resources such as ChemFreeCom.com or find a social media group to join with like-minded people who have some experience from their own trial and error. If you get overwhelmed, remember that you don't have to get rid of all chemicals in one day. Every swap you make is something to celebrate!
