MASTER YOUR ATHLEISURE STYLE WITH HELP FROM THE STYLISTS AT TRUNK CLUB
18
Franklin Lifestyle | January 2019
WHEN IT COMES TO HEALTH AND FITNESS TRENDS, KEEPING UP WITH THE EVER-CHANGING INFORMATION THAT’S OUT THERE CAN BE DIFFICULT. “This one move will change your legs forever;” “You’ll never eat these foods again after you read this story;” or, our favorite, “A glass of wine a day can help you live longer.” When you’re busy juggling the latest workout app craze or cleaning out your refrigerator only to find out a week later that those items are good for you again, it can get overwhelming. So, when you want a break from it all but don’t want to give up feeling sporty, take the trends from your yoga mat to your closet instead and stock up on athleisure wear. As the stylists at Trunk Club, a Nordstrom Company, put it, athleisure isn’t necessarily about working out—it’s designed for a lifestyle. Incorporating chic, comfy silhouettes with sporty pieces gets you through the day with a fashionable vibe you’ll want to sport—no pun intended—on the regular! For more style tips and to get your own trunk today, visit TrunkClub.com.
01
B A SI C U P G R A D E If a fuss-free outfit is what you’re looking for, keep it simple! The Trunk Club stylists recommend faux-leather leggings and a scoop-hem tank as an easy way to take the essentials up a notch. Finish off your look with a lightweight jacket, a baseball cap and a backpack with unique detailing for just the right amount of edge.
02
E A SE D U P If you’re looking to reflect your laid-back outlook but need to appear put-together, consider pairing a sporty logo tank with cropped wide-leg pants. Pro tip: Keep your outfit fresh with pieces in a cool, earth-tone color palette, and then bring it all together with trendy accessories with unique detailing.
03
BOLD COMFORT Your favorite athletic pieces, like sports bras, can be repurposed by wearing them under a sheer, oversized tunic. Be mindful of your proportions, though. Avoid frumpiness by pairing it with fitted joggers, and complete the look with a stand-out bag and sneakers.

Pharmacy owner Todd Garrett, Pharm D, moved to Nashville when he was 18 to attend Lipscomb University, where he earned his doctorate of pharmacy. After graduation, he worked for various chain pharmacies before realizing he wanted to do more. “I was finally able to make my dream a reality and open Franklin Family Pharmacy,” Todd says. “We love helping people and earning the reputation as a place where folks can not only get their prescriptions filled, but also get advice and guidance. There is the assumption that we are more expensive, but oftentimes we are less expensive than the chains because of the buying groups we participate in that give us great prices on drugs. We also provide drug interaction services and medication synchronization.” Franklin Family Pharmacy also offers compounding, which is a great option for customers who have stomach irritation or

GIVING BACK
FOR THE KIDS JACLYN AND SCOTT STAPP PAY IT FORWARD
MAKINGS OF A HALLMARK MOVIE. Scott chivalrously hailed Jaclyn a cab while she was visiting Miami, and they ended up maintaining contact long-distance for months before they attended their first outing together—fittingly, a charity event. Their faith-based approach to marriage and raising children has driven them to focus on others and encourage the community to do so as well. Scott and Jaclyn are the backbones of two strong, forward-thinking organizations that focus on the mental wellness of individuals while meeting the physical and material needs as well. Jaclyn created CHARM: Children Are Magical with a strong focus on mental wellness. CHARM supports and encourages children while also creating arenas in which parents and guardians can get help for themselves. Just recently, CHARM put on its Back to School Bash. The Bash provides backpacks full of school supplies to underprivileged children. CHARM and its supporters understand that having necessary resources, like school supplies, bolster the children's confidence and allows them to come into the educational setting and concentrate on their lesson and not worry if they have the correct materials. The Bash also provides back-to-school basics like haircuts and dental exams, taking care of needs that boost self-esteem and encourage kids to be their best selves. Protecting the children’s time as kids is the success of CHARM. Helping to meet their needs in that way prevents underprivileged children from focusing on the "grown-up" issues and allows them to be children. Scott founded the With Arms Wide Open Foundation more than 20 years ago. The foundation focuses on providing help to those affected by PTSD, addiction and depression, working closely with the armed forces and concentrating on children and their families. The organization supports overarching wellness of the person its treating. Having a pay-itforward outlook and wanting to give back to each city and those who support him and his music as he toured, Scott began partnering with other groups, like Second Harvest Food Bank. Both With Arms Wide Open Foundation and CHARM seek to open doors, find universal 26

Make 2019 Your Best Year Yet GOALS. It’s a buzzword around this time of year for sure. Everybody’s got goals. Goals for work, for relationships, for health, for life. Have you asked yourself what your goals are for 2019? It’s been said that if you don’t write them down, they are destined to fail quickly. Well, we wrote them down for you! We put together a list of three common goals and resolutions people seem to make every year. What are you waiting for?
GOAL: Get organized. Sara
Skillen
of
SkillSet
Organizing
in
Franklin believes we all have an “inner organizer” we can tap into if we take a little time to become aware of our habits. “There’s a saying that all clutter is the result of postponed decisions, and it’s very true! If we have stuff all over the countertops, we haven’t decided on a specific home for said stuff. If we have unopened mail, we haven’t decided when we’ll sit down, open and process it,” Sarah says. “Being organized is a journey, not a destination, so try starting your new year with some simple steps like deciding to clear out one drawer or take five items to Goodwill. If we all spent 10 minutes a day decluttering instead of scrolling social media, what magic could we accomplish?” SkillSetOrganizing.com
GOAL: Detox and renew cellular health. Ah, sweat. It’s one of the most efficient and natural ways to detox your body. Sweating purges the body of toxins. So when it’s cold outside, what better way is there to sweat than to try one of Pure Sweat + Float Studio’s infrared sauna therapies? Their sauna sessions warm the body at the celluar level and deliver a deep-tissue sweat. The saunas also have many other remedial benefits like weight loss and wound healing, to name a few. many other healing benefits including skin health and replenishing the body’s magnesium sulfate, which 90 percent of us have a deficiency in.
DIRECTIONS 1. Remove the stems from the cauliflower florets and steam the heads until soft. Drain, and return to the saucepan. 2. Over medium-high heat, add cottage cheese, shredded cheese and almond milk. Stir until incorporated. 3. Add mustard, garlic powder, salt and pepper. 4. Once heated through but not quite boiling, pour mixture into a casserole pan or baking dish. 5. Cover with the remaining cheese. Top with more pepper, if desired. 6. Broil until bubbly. 7. While the “mac and cheese” is broiling, cook the bacon until crispy and let drain on a paper towel. 8. Remove the “mac and cheese” from the oven and crumble the bacon over the mixture as a garnish. 9. Serve warm and enjoy!
GOAL: Lose weight. Pretty much everybody has a few extra pounds they put on over the holidays, which is most likely why, in a recent survey, 45 percent of people said they’d like to lose weight. Our friends at Franklin’s Metabolic Research Center shared their recipe for cauliflower mac and cheese, a healthy take on the carbohydrate-laden American comfort food. MRC loves the versatility of cauliflower from its cooking behavior to its impressive array of nutrients. EMetabolic.com

FREE BASELINE ASSESSMENT! CONCUSSIONS DON'T JUST HAPPEN ON THE PLAYING FIELD. GOING ABOUT YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE-- BICYCLING, TRIPPING, OR EVEN JUMPING ON THE BED-- CAN LEAD TO A CONCUSSION, WHICH CAN LEAD TO COGNITIVE DIFFICULTIES. If you or your child have suffered from a concussion and experience brain fog, sudden mood changes, and short term memory issues, neurofeedback may be able to help you. Neurofeedback is a scientifically supported, noninvasive treatment that lets you take back control. Dr. Pam Drury is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist who earned her PhD right here in Nashville at Vanderbilt University. She is also the only clinical neuropsychologist that is board certified in neurofeedback in the middle Tennessee area, which makes her particularly qualified to care for your unique needs.

Turn a life at risk into a life worth living More than 17.5 million Americans are living with a serious mental illness, and of them, 4 million also have a drug or alcohol addiction. Adolescents and adults in Nashville who are struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders have a new resource for recovery at Rogers Behavioral Health. The new, evidence-based Dual Diagnosis program effectively treats both substance abuse disorder and mental health issues like OCD, anxiety, and depression—at the same time. Dual treatment includes: • Outpatient programs that allow patients to attend a structured treatment setting and maintain schedules at home, school, or work • Proven approach led by a board-certified psychiatrist, expert medical staff, and dedicated care team • Group, individual, and family therapy In addition to addiction, Rogers-Nashville also provides treatment for OCD and anxiety, depression and mood disorders, and eating disorders. Does our treatment work? See the effects of our evidence-based treatment at rogersbh.org/outcomes.
