HELLO, FRANKLIN. Welcome to September. This month brings the first days of fall. When I think of fall, I envision a renewed sense of focus and purpose. It's a season of transition, right? Leaves will start to turn soon. Temperatures will start to decline. Things are starting to change. Summer brings a lot to the table with vacations, cookouts, day trips, a distraction or two and a lot of family time. Summer is over now. I see this as an opportunity to take a look at where I am personally and establish a cadence to meet the goals of the year. Since many of us have put away our pool and beach attire for the year, it’s also a great time to reassess our “style." Whether it’s wardrobe, accessories, home decor or even food, our style says a lot about us. It’s a little glimpse of who we are as people. So in September, we give style a fresh look. School is back in session, so why not? In this issue, you’ll see Miss Tennessee featured at Franklin’s own Gin-O Boutique, the Tennessee Titans sporting their new uniforms, exciting happenings around town and more.

LEMON RISOTTO WITH SWEET PEAS AND SUMMER SQUASH 7 cups chicken stock 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/2 cup minced white onion 1 3/4 cups arborio rice 1 1/2 cups diced yellow summer squash 1 cup fresh peas 1/2 cup white wine 2 tablespoons lemon juice Zest of one lemon 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/2 cup heavy cream

After 3-4 minutes, gently flip fish with fish spatula. Continue cooking for 4-6 minutes. Turn heat down to medium-low. Set aside on warm plate while you make the sauce. "Fluffing" your food is more appealing than smashing it down.

R IT WAS A SPRING FASHION SHOW FOR THE FALL SEASON, BUT A MERE CATWALK WOULD NOT SUFFICE. Instead, a stage was needed, and a titanic one, too. Because upon it—and before a packed crowd

downtown last April—stood a group of larger-than-life hometown heroes: Jurrell Casey and Taylor Lewan, Kevin Byard and Delanie Walker, Brian Orakpo and Marcus Mariota. Each man his own person, each man blessed with his own particular skills and abilities, but each man also fused into a single, cohesive unit through the power of teamwork and the magic of style. It was the unveiling of the Titans’ new uniforms, a preview of the team’s seriously sharp new look. The crowd went wild. Let’s take it from the top, starting with the helmet. Gone are the two blue stripes, replaced by a single slash of two-toned silver. It’s a sword, a symbol that runs throughout the new uniform. The inspiration? Think Titans of Greek mythology, the primordial gods who battled the Olympians in what were arguably the first Super Bowls, a series of epic struggles called the Titanomachy. Also, think Parthenon and Nashville as the “Athens of the South.” It quickly becomes clear that the ancient Greek theme to our city predates even Music Row and hot chicken. Hence the sword element, appearing as well on the shoulders of the jerseys along with “sheaths” on the sides of the pants.

Katie's platform is improving the lives of some of Williamson County's young citizens. She is the founder and CEO of Erika's Safe Place, a local nonprofit whose mission is to prevent at-risk youth in Williamson County from re-offending, being sent into custody, dropping out of school, and/or ultimately spiraling downhill into suicide.

Katie's best friend from high school, Erika, committed suicide in 2015. As teens, both girls struggled with self-worth and delinquent behaviors. Unfortunately, those unresolved emotions and thoughts followed Erika into adulthood. Katie says after Erika passed away, she started to research suicide statistics and found suicide to be the leading cause of death amongst adolescents. Williamson County is ranked second in the state for teen suicide and nationally, suicide has increased 128 percent since 1980. September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
