What's that old saying? You can take the girl out of the city but you can't take the city out of the girl? I'm not sure a truer statement has ever been uttered, especially when it comes to fashion. Fort Collins has its own kind of style. We're casual, calm, cool and col lected. We also know how to rise to the occasion and truly make a splash. In the world of media, September is known as the month of fashion and style and we are more than happy to oblige. Not only are we bringing you fashion that will help keep you on top of the latest styles locally, but we are also sharing a group of incredible fine art as fashion collections from our friends at Colorado State's department of design and merchandising. Some of the pieces in this collection have been featured at the MET in New York City and others were created to embody the style of renowned designer and critic Richard Blackwell - who you’ll hear more about later in this issue. Style means something different to everyone and what's "in-style" is ever-changing. What was once old is new again and what is new may only stay here for a short time. One thing that'll always be in fashion is the uniqueness and individuality we all carry. Our favorite season for fashion is definitely fall, when a sweater is the vibe and the opportunity for a wardrobe refresh is in the air. Latifah Hirchi-Vogl - As a finalist in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The MET) Costume Institute College Fashion Design Competition in New York City, Hirchi-Vogl's work is clearly ready for the runway. With a strong work ethic and love for experimentation, there's no telling where her designs will appear next.

Cynthia Rodriguez - Currently working on a New York Fashion Week collection as a part of her internship with LAVNTG and designer Megan Carter, Rodriguez is on a defi nite upward trajectory. Her design work is inspired by the likes of Schiaparelli, Dion Lee, Alexander McQueen, and Balenciaga - to name a few - and she views fashion as a means for people to share a part of their soul with the world.
"In fashion I do not need to limit or hide who I am as a creative individual. That I am able to simply express any belief and emotion I experience into a fashion - making those non-physi cal traits come to life, and for the world to see through my eyes."

While Richard Blackwell might have been best known for his work as a fashion critic, his contributions to the world of fash ion go much further than that. An accomplished designer of textiles and clothing, Mr. Blackwell's body of work is extensive.
After The Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising at CSU was gifted a private collection of his work, Blackwell began developing a relationship with the museum. Now the largest assemblage of Blackwell's designs, garments, and archives, the museum's collection is a slice of fashion history that directly benefits students. In addition to working to preserve the collec tion, students have had the opportunity to study the techniques and styles that made Blackwell's work so unique. To celebrate what would have been Mr. Blackwells 100th birthday year, the collection is being displayed alongside student works inspired by his contributions at the Avenir Museum's 'Blackwell 100' exhibit.
