Happy Father’s Day and Happy Anniversary Folsom City Lifestyle!
So much to unpack this month! It's our First Anniversary Issue. What an amazing ride it's been. It seems like we had our fun-filled Launch Event at The Folsom Hotel only yesterday, and a whole year has gone by already. We've had so much fun and met so many amazing people. Check out our article showing some of Folsom City Lifestyle's accomplishments this year.
Following on the "high" heels of our May Women's Issue, we're featuring some influential men and allaround cool guys and offering things to do with Dad on Father's Day.

As a mom of three young men and a loving husband, honoring all the guys in my life is a blessing. We'll probably spend Father's Day with family brunch at the new Crawdads on the Lake and a day of board games and pickleball.
Let your father or a father figure in your life know how much he matters to you. And if you are a dad, let us be the first to say - Thank You. You are invaluable to the people who know and need you as well as to the community around you.
Happy Father’s Day!

LOCAL
MEN LEAVING A LASTING IMPACT ON OUR COMMUNITY
ARTICLE BY KIMBERLY MORPHIS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY RAFAEL FLOREA
Sterling Forbes
Former Harlem Globetrotter, motivational speaker, and author
From shooting hoops in South Central L.A. to traveling worldwide with the Harlem Globetrotters, Sterling Forbes truly represents what a man of influence should be. Not only is he a devoted husband and father of four (one of them being USC basketball star, Mckenzie Forbes who was featured in our women’s issue last month), but Forbes is also committed to fighting the brutal reality of childhood bullying. Forbes published an anti-bullying book, Bubba Bully Bear, and he speaks directly to elementary schools about the importance of education and open dialogue to eliminate bullying at its root. Additionally, Forbes continues his passion for basketball through his programs Hoops and Homework and After-School Hoops. Sterling’s programs help young athletes prioritize school work while enjoying the fun and discipline that basketball provides.
When asked how he overcame adversity as a professional baller and entrepreneur, Forbes answered, “Surround yourself with good people, and good things will happen.” Forbes embraces the notion that it’s never too late and to never give up. He believes life is all about the choices we make. His dedication to local youth will positively impact our community for ages to come.
As a twenty-year Folsom resident, Forbes enjoys date night with his gorgeous wife, Sasha, at their favorite restaurants, Mexquite or Taiko Sushi. Find Sterling Forbes’ book series, Hooked on Books Across America, at Barnes and Noble and other booksellers.

"Never Give Up!" - Sterling ForbesAaron Ralls
Ralls Realty Group
“The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is that successful people will recognize and act on the opportunity; unsuccessful people will not.” A simple notion that makes a big impact according to lifelong patriot, Aaron Ralls. From coaching his three children’s sports teams to his fifteen-year tenure in law enforcement to speaking at high schools about entrepreneurship, Ralls embodies what an influential man is. As a local realtor, Aaron wants to see everyone on his team thrive. He insists that continuous self-education is a key piece to success. Ralls stands firm that the only advice people should take is from those who have accomplished what they want to achieve. Ralls is driven by helping people. “At my funeral, I hope the stories shared about me will be about how I helped others.” As a proud Christian and free-thinker, Aaron isn’t afraid to think outside the box and push against the grain.
Aaron and his high-school sweetheart, Laura, can be found throughout Folsom supporting locals who support local. When he is not working on his ranch, you can find the Ralls supporting Salsa’s Taqueria and Lucky’s Barbershop. RallsRealEstate.com

“Look for opportunities to be uncomfortable, that’s where the greatest growth occurs."
-Matt Stumpf

Matt Stumpf Founder,
Trudino Fundraising Programs
A flooring specialist by day and fundraising founder by night, Matt Stumpf is bringing a new spin on giving back. Stumpf grew up playing sports and has kept his passion for athletics alive with his new fundraising tool, Trudino. At grad school at Sacramento State, he was required to come up with a platform to launch. He saw a real need for teams to fundraise while making it worthwhile for businesses to partner with. The Greek meaning for giving back, Trudino, is a program that allows a team to create a landing page where supporters can purchase gift cards to participating stores and restaurants. 40% of the purchase is then donated back to the team. The benefit of Trudino is that there is no handling of cash for the teams to keep track of, no inventory to store and, it keeps strong partnerships between local businesses and youth sports teams.
As the President of The Flooring Station, an employee-owned company, Matt values his local business relationships and also enjoys relaxing with a fine stogie at Cigar City. Check out his fundraising program, Trudino.com

“I like my problems, I wouldn’t trade with anyone else."
-Phil Scott

Phil Scott Consultant for Choose Folsom
As a Folsom resident since ’89, Phil Scott has seen the growth of our community, and as a consultant for Choose Folsom, he now plays an influential role in bringing companies to Folsom. Scott believes Folsom is the best place on the planet but also strives to pay attention to the region as a whole, with special emphasis on our HWY 50 alliances. He thinks of our community like a blanket; it is ok to let the blanket grow to include more but it’s best to keep the blanket close-knit. His “Phil-osophy” is that doing business needs to remain relationship-based, not transactional. “When you take care of the people, you have less to worry about.” His advice for young people is to lean in and to work together, especially when we don’t agree. Scott says “We don’t know the burdens others carry” so it’s important to see the perspective of others.
Phil and his boss-babe wife, Evangeline (also featured in our May Women’s Issue), are huge supporters of all things local, including our first responders and small businesses. When they are not at a fundraiser, local event, or pulling off on the side of the road to clean up trash or graffiti, you can find them at one of their favorite weekly date night spots like Land Ocean.
“You have to really want it!”
-Steve Brown
Steve Brown
Owner of the Beach Hut Deli
“I joined the Beach Hut Deli Ohana and the rest is history. The organic growth of the company drew me in.” Steve Brown, owner of four Beach Hut Deli locations, is more than The Sandwich King. To his long-time partner Jaime and his son Hudson, Steve is not only a provider and protector, he is the ultimate example of a man of influence. Brown’s advice for entrepreneurs is, “To succeed, you have to have drive, you have to really want it.” He advises that success comes from being a top salesman, a creative marketer, and having a deep understanding of taxes and profit margins.
Up early, blowing leaves off patios, and prepping for catering orders, Brown is one to lean into the chaos with a smile & aloha attitude. Brown is the lead trainer for all new BHD franchisees, showing them how to make more than a sandwich but to make an impact. Giving back is synonymous with Steve Brown, with over 20% of sales going back into the community in youth sports sponsorships.
Steve loves supporting Visconti’s Ristorante because they embody the same principles of community and consistency from start to finish. BeachHutDeli.com/store/folsom .

Pickleball Mania
Have You Tried Pickleball Yet?
ARTICLE BY TERRYN WOLFLonger summer evenings afford greater opportunities for outdoor activities, and pickleball is a great option for individuals and families to get some exercise and meet new people. Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong using a paddle and plastic ball with holes. It is a game that is appropriate for players of all ages and skill levels. Pickleball was born in 1965 to provide a game that the whole family could play together. The growth of the sport continues to explode, nearing ten million players nationwide. You can drop in at public locations; many organizations advertise open play times for different skill levels making it easy to find a game with others. Playtimescheduler.com is a free website to check when open group play is scheduled or when court availability may be impacted by tournaments or events hosted by clubs affiliated with the location. Normally you can step right up and put your paddle(s) in the queue for the next open court if all courts are busy.
