F
or Kyle Heidlebaugh, a successful dealership is built on more than the vehicles lined up outside. It begins with the people who walk through the doors. Heidlebaugh recently joined Cronic Chevrolet GMC in Griffin as General Manager, bringing 26 years in the automotive business and more than two decades devoted to Chevrolet and General Motors. “We’re a people business. We’re people centric,” Heidlebaugh said. “You focus behind your people first.” That philosophy may have roots deeper than his automotive career. Heidlebaugh grew up in Pennsylvania, where his family has owned an appliance business for 102 years. Although he chose a different industry, he built his own career around many of the same things that sustain a business across generations: relationships, repeat customers, and personal attention.

“You’ve got to make a person your friend before you can sell them a car,” he said. Heidlebaugh is also genuinely enthusiastic about the vehicles he represents. Tahoes and Suburbans are personal favorites — he has owned five of the full-size Chevrolet SUVs — while his current ride is a 2026 GMC Yukon Denali. He describes the Denali as one of General Motors’ standout vehicles, praising its fit, finish, technology, and luxury. He is also looking ahead to upcoming redesigned Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras. But spend a few minutes with Heidlebaugh, and the conversation inevitably returns to people. He believes managers should know their employees, greet customers throughout the dealership, and remain visible rather than disappearing behind an office door. Even the

placement of the vehicles matters to him. One of his longtime rules is, “You can’t sell what you can’t see.” His own life is undergoing a redesign as well. After spending his entire life in Pennsylvania, Heidlebaugh recently relocated to Georgia. His wife of 20 years and their teen son plan to join him after the school year, and the family is exploring where they will put down roots. So far, Georgia has made an impression. “The best thing is the hospitality,” Heidlebaugh said. “People are genuinely nice here. They’re genuinely welcoming.” At Cronic Chevrolet GMC, Heidlebaugh intends to return that welcome — one conversation, one relationship, and one customer at a time. Visit Cronic Chevrolet GMC in Griffin to meet Kyle Heidlebaugh and explore the Chevrolet and GMC lineup.

LIFESTYLE LETTER
Behind The Counter My sister worked at a small clothing shop called Muriel Mundy back when we were growing up. It carried exclusive brands, the kind of place where the racks meant something. She was such a good employee that when she left for college, the owner called my mother and asked if she had any younger sisters who might want the job. I was only twelve at the time, so they made a deal... come back and interview when I turned sixteen and could legally work. I did exactly that. I started the week after my sixteenth birthday in 1984 and stayed until I graduated from college in 1988. The owner was shrewd and calculated. The manager and staff were warm and wonderful, and somewhere between the two I got my education. Picture a young girl just learning about fashion, surrounded by Coach, Geiger, Calvin Klein, and Gunne Sax, which in the 80s was an absolute must. I never had any money left over, but I learned how to style myself. I learned how to care for my clothes so they lasted. I learned that spending a little more on something well-made wasn't frivolous... it was an investment in how I showed up in the world. That mattered to me then, and it still does. My style has changed a hundred times since. I have gone through boho phases, classic phases, even a romantic streak here and there. It keeps morphing, the way I do. But one thing has never changed... I always want to present myself well. Fashion doesn't stop at your closet either. You'll see in one of our articles this month that it shows up in the home too, in the pieces you choose and the way your house flows. So here's my challenge to you this September. Take your easy, runto-the-store outfit, add one splashy piece of jewelry, and make a small statement. Or go find an upcycled piece, something one-of-a-kind that has a story of its own, and wear it like you mean it. Style was never about the price tag for me. It was about learning to see myself clearly enough to know what I loved to wear. That is a lesson I am still grateful I got to learn behind that counter. Enjoy the read this month and blessings to you all, JENNIFER CONFORTI, PUBLISHER @ F AY E T T E C O U N T Y L I F E S T Y L E

Before the transformation... dark, cramped and dated, this space carried the weight of a layout, finishes, and flow that time had left behind.
Walls certainly aren’t coming back, but they aren’t disappearing quite as fast, either. For more than three decades, the open-concept f loor plan has been the hallmark of modern home design. Beginning in the late 1980s and gaining tremendous popularity through the 1990s and early 2000s, walls came down as kitchens f lowed into family rooms and dining areas merged into expansive living spaces. The concept ref lected a changing lifestyle - one where families wanted to cook, entertain, and spend time together without physical barriers separating them. Today, however, Valencia Marierose, Owner & CEO of VMRealty, Renovations & Designs, sees another shift quietly taking place. Rather than abandoning the open floor plan altogether, homeowners are embracing what designers call the semi-open concept a thoughtful balance between openness and privacy. It’s less about closing rooms off and more about creating spaces that serve today’s evolving lifestyles. The reasons are as practical as they are personal. “A home should reflect the way you live today,” says Valencia. “The best designs begin by understanding a family’s daily routines, then creating spaces that make life easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable.” As remote and hybrid work have become commonplace, many homeowners need dedicated office space where video calls aren’t interrupted by household activity. Families with young children appreciate having a playroom where toys, games, and creative chaos can remain tucked away when company arrives. Multi-generational living has also become more common, making private living areas for aging parents or adult children an increasingly desirable feature. “Thoughtful design isn’t just about solving today’s challenges,” Valencia explains. “It’s about anticipating tomorrow’s. Features like wider doorways, curbless showers, flexible floor plans, and mainlevel living make it possible for homeowners to remain in the homes they love as their needs change over time.” Even energy efficiency plays a role. Large, uninterrupted spaces can require more energy to heat and cool, while defined rooms make it easier for homeowners to manage comfort more efficiently. A home with separated living areas can make better use of zoning systems, allowing homeowners to regulate temperatures based on rooms which are actually being used rather than conditioning the entire house throughout the day. After; a total breath of fresh air. Open, bright, and effortlessly styled, this new design proves the right layout can change how a home feels to live in.
At the same time, one trend continues to grow stronger: the desire for homes that feel spacious. Valencia believes homeowners sometimes confuse openness with spaciousness. “You don’t always need more square footage to make a home feel bigger,” Valencia shares. “The goal is to create openness while giving every room a purpose. Balance - not simply removing every wall - is what makes a home truly functional.” High ceilings, grand entryways, oversized windows, and abundant natural light remain near the top of many wish lists, particularly among those building custom homes. Natural light offers benefits beyond aesthetics. Sun-filled spaces can support mood, energy, and overall well-being. Strategically placed windows can also reduce reliance on artificial lighting during the day, allowing a good home design to contribute to both personal comfort and household efficiency. Valencia is passionate about her clients’ homes and believes great design should create an experience that can be felt. “One of the first things people notice when they walk into a home is how it makes them feel,” Valencia says. “Generous ceiling height or a welcoming entry creates an immediate sense of openness and elegance. When a home feels warm and inviting from the very first step inside, you’ve accomplished something far more meaningful than just making it feel larger.” Sometimes a home’s transformation comes from strategically removing a wall to improve sight lines and natural light. Enlarging a doorway or cutting a graceful opening between rooms can provide

When a home fe e l s w a r m and inviting from the ver y first step i n s i d e , y o u' v e accomplished something fa r m o r e meaningful than just making it fe e l l a r g e r. visual connection while maintaining distinct spaces. Incorporating architectural details such as beams can dramatically increase the perception of openness without altering the home’s overall footprint. These design choices allow homeowners to enjoy the best of both worlds - defined spaces where privacy is needed and open areas where family and friends naturally gather. Perhaps that’s why the semiopen concept resonates with so many people today. Our homes are expected to do far more than they did twenty years ago. They have become offices, classrooms, entertainment spaces, fitness studios, and, for many families, homes for multiple generations under one roof. For homeowners planning a renovation or new construction, Valencia offers one piece of important advice: “Don’t let trends make decisions for you. Every family lives differently, and your home should reflect your lifestyle, not someone else’s social media feed. Be honest with your designer about how you live, what you need, and what isn’t working. The most beautiful homes aren’t the trendiest. They’re the ones designed intentionally for the people who live in them.” As life changes, our homes should change with it. The best floor plans are not those that are completely open or completely closed. They are the ones that adapt to the people who call them home - creating spaces that feel welcoming, functional, and ready for whatever the next chapter brings. The walls may not be coming back, but thoughtful design is, and that’s a trend worth embracing.

Are Your Legs Telling You Something? WHAT YOUR VEINS MIGHT BE TELLING YOU ABOUT YOUR HEALTH.
As fall fashion arrives, it’s the season of knee-length dresses, tailored skirts, ankle boots, loafers, and those in-between days before tights become part of your everyday wardrobe. It’s the time of year when lightweight layers, denim jackets, and your favorite dresses all come back into rotation. But for many women, getting dressed isn’t just about following the latest trends. It’s about feeling confident enough to show off their legs. If you’ve ever reached for jeans instead of the dress you really wanted to wear because of spider veins or varicose veins, you’re not alone. At Truffles Vein Specialists, we hear it every day. Many patients tell us they stopped wearing shorts, skirts, or dresses because they became self-conscious about their legs. What surprises them most is learning that visible veins aren’t always just cosmetic. They can also be a sign of an underlying vein condition. Here are some of the questions we hear most often. Q: I AVOID WEARING DRESSES AND SKIRTS BECAUSE OF MY VEINS. AM I THE ONLY ONE? A: Not at all. Many of our patients tell us they’ve quietly built a wardrobe around covering their legs. While changing your wardrobe may feel like an easy solution, it doesn’t address the underlying problem. Our goal is to help you feel confident wearing everything from your favorite little black dress to a casual denim skirt.

Q: ARE SPIDER VEINS AND VARICOSE VEINS JUST COSMETIC? A: Not necessarily. In many cases, visible veins are more than a cosmetic concern. They can be an early sign of underlying vein disease that should be evaluated by a vein specialist. If your legs feel heavy, tired, swollen, or achy at the end of the day, don’t assume it’s simply part of getting older. Your body may be asking for attention.
Q: I’VE BEEN COVERING MY LEGS FOR YEARS. IS IT TOO LATE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? A: It’s never too late. Whether your concern is cosmetic, medical, or both, today’s treatment options can help you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin. Q: IS FALL REALLY A GOOD TIME FOR VEIN TREATMENT? A: Absolutely. By starting treatment in the fall, many patients are ready to enjoy spring dresses, shorts, and vacations with healthier, more confident legs. Q: MY VEINS DON’T HURT. SHOULD I STILL HAVE THEM CHECKED? A: Yes. Some people have significant vein disease with very few symptoms. A simple, non-invasive ultrasound helps determine whether there’s an underlying medical issue or whether your concerns are primarily cosmetic. Q: CAN HEALTHY LEGS REALLY CHANGE HOW I FEEL ABOUT GETTING DRESSED? A: Absolutely. Many patients tell us the biggest change isn’t just healthier legs. It’s the confidence that comes with them. They stop planning outfits around what covers their legs and start choosing clothes because they love them. Whether it’s wearing a dress to a wedding, a skirt to work, shorts on vacation, or a romper for a weekend getaway, confidence never goes out of style. Q: WHAT DOES TREATMENT ACTUALLY INVOLVE? A: Most people are pleasantly surprised. Today’s vein treatments are minimally invasive, performed right in our office, and usually take less than an hour. Most patients return to normal activities the same day. If treatment is medically necessary, many insurance plans also provide coverage. CONTINUED >

“Too many people believe visible veins are simply part of aging or something they have to hide. The truth is that treatment has never been easier, and healthier legs are more achievable than ever.”
Q: ANY FASHION ADVICE FROM THE VEIN SPECIALISTS? A: Wear what makes you feel confident. This season, we’re loving timeless staples like midi dresses, tailored blazers, structured denim, knee-high boots, and cozy knit sweaters. Don’t let concerns about your legs keep your favorite outfit in the closet. If you’ll be on your feet all day, choose supportive shoes when possible, stay hydrated, and keep your legs moving. Healthy habits and healthy legs can help you feel just as good as you look. Q: WHAT’S ONE THING YOU WISH EVERYONE KNEW ABOUT VEIN HEALTH? A: You don’t have to live with it. Too many people believe visible veins are simply part of aging or something they have to hide. The truth is that treatment has never been easier, and healthier legs are more achievable than ever. This fall, don’t let vein concerns determine what hangs in your closet. Whether you’re dressing for a wedding, pulling on your favorite boots, or planning holiday photos, the team at Truffles Vein Specialists is here to help. Because confidence is always in style, and healthy legs are the perfect finishing touch to any outfit.

Long before “dopamine dressing” became a fashion buzzword, Anna Ferguson was living it. Inspired by her grandmother, who first taught her to crochet before introducing her to a sewing machine at just four years old, Ferguson has spent a lifetime creating. Her passion eventually led her to earn a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design from Georgia Southern University, but her mission has remained the same: helping people express themselves authentically. For the creator behind OneLoveOneAnna, jewelry is more than an accessory, it’s an invitation to embrace joy. While she launched her Etsy shop 13 years ago, today most of her business happens face-to-face at local markets and festivals, where she offers both one-of-a-kind custom creations and colorful designs inspired by her own creativity. Her favorite part? Watching people of every generation discover something that makes them smile. “Dopamine dressing is for people of all ages,” she says. “I have families pass through my booth and the children, parents, and

SHE’S GOT A New Stitch IN HER Step MĀDENEW gives Nancy Petit’s creativity and old pieces new life, and people love it. ARTICLE BY PAM REID | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Some people see an old sweatshirt, a forgotten quilt, or a secondhand piece of fabric and see something that has reached the end of its usefulness. Nancy Petit sees possibility. The Georgia native is the founder and creative genius behind MĀDENEW, an upcycled clothing brand transforming gently used and vintage finds into one-of-a-kind apparel. From her home in Woolsey, Nancy creates tops, bottoms, and coordinating sets that have found their way into closets across the United States and as far away as Europe, Dubai, and Australia. For Nancy, however, creating is nothing new. She remembers being fascinated by her grandmother’s sewing machine when she was just six years old. As a teenager, her father bought her a sewing machine of her own, nurturing a creative streak that would remain a constant throughout her life. Years later, as a stay-at-home mother raising her three children, now 27, 24, and 21, Nancy put that creativity to work making costumes for school and holiday events and special birthday outfits for her daughter. Her children remain her “why” in life. Eventually, her creativity became a business. Nancy launched an Etsy store, which she operated for 15 years. But after years of producing the same items over and over again, the repetition began to wear on her. “I didn’t want to do it anymore, so I stopped,” she recalls. “But then I got the itch to make things.” That itch, combined with Nancy’s love of thrifting, eventually sparked an entirely new idea. “One day I had the idea to take one of my old sweatshirts apart and use it for a pattern,” she says. The goal was to take something familiar and give it a completely new form. “I enjoy giving new life to old pieces.”

In December 2023, Nancy decided to turn that idea into a business. By January 2024, MĀDENEW was born. She launched an Instagram account and built a website, neither of which came naturally after years of relying on Etsy. “I didn’t know how to do any of it,” she says. “It was all a learning process.” Today, most MĀDENEW pieces begin with something Nancy discovers while thrifting at secondhand stores, antique shops, and estate sales. Other materials arrive directly from customers. Sometimes it is a brand-new item someone wants transformed. Other times, it is something sentimental, such as a family quilt ready for its next chapter. CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/FAYET T E C O UN T Y

The result is clothing that combines individuality with sustainability, keeping existing materials in use while creating something entirely original. “People love having something that no one else has,” Nancy says. Throughout the week, followers of @madenewupcycle get glimpses of works in progress through Nancy’s Instagram Stories. Once several pieces are completed, she prepares for a “drop,” typically on Fridays at 7 p.m. On drop day, she posts the finished collection, including sizing information, before the pieces become available at www.madenewshop.com. Nancy’s oversized sweatshirts accommodate a broader range of customers, while pants can be hemmed after purchase. Nancy, who is 5-foot-8, intentionally makes them long, then alters the length before shipping. And … the pants have pockets. Her first pairs sold almost immediately after she posted them; perhaps confirmation that women appreciate a great pocket just as much as anyone else. “I like having the creative freedom to do what I want,” Nancy says. That freedom has produced something Nancy never anticipated: an international audience. “I’ve shipped items to Europe, to Dubai, to Australia, and it is just incredible to me.” She continues, “Anyone in the world can purchase through my website.” As Nancy approaches a milestone birthday this year, there is something especially fitting about building a thriving business around reinvention. When she is not creating something, Nancy’s mind is still “going, going, going,” searching for the next thing to create. MĀDENEW allows her to work when she wants, create what inspires her, and generate income doing something she genuinely enjoys. “I love being creative and making something that someone else loves,” Nancy says. “I love what I do, and I’m glad people like it.”

OLD FAVORITES, NEW POSSIBILITIES Upcycling does more than turn yesterday’s finds into something fresh. Giving clothing and textiles another life can benefit your closet and the environment. • Keeps textiles in use longer. Repurposing clothing helps reduce the amount of apparel that ends up in landfills. • Makes fashion more personal. Upcycled pieces often incorporate unique fabrics, patterns and details, creating clothing that truly stands apart. • Reduces demand for new materials. Reusing existing textiles can lessen the need for resources associated with producing new clothing. • Preserves meaningful pieces. A favorite shirt, vintage textile or family quilt can become something wearable rather than remaining tucked away. • Encourages creativity. Upcycling proves that something old doesn’t have to be finished.
