American Muscle

Experience it at

A

taste of Americana at an affordable price.

That might be the best way to describe the selection of Dodge Challengers and Chargers now available in the newly remodeled showroom at Cronic Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM in Griffin.

“There’s no American-made muscle like what you find in a Charger and Challenger,” said Cronic sales manager Rich Day. “To be able to roll the window down, open up the sunroof, turn the music up and roll down the road when the weather is beautiful – it is as American as it comes.”

Both cars come with a powerful Hemi engine and a ton of horsepower, but the Challenger is a two-door model whereas the

Limited stock is available nationwide of this piece of Americana, the Dodge Charger. Get yours at Cronic.

Charger has four doors. That gives someone the option of bringing the entire family along for a power-packed ride.

Customers have come to Griffin from as far as Maine and Texas to secure their new vehicles, in part because of the colors that are still available. One buyer wired the entire purchase amount of the car once he learned that Cronic had the one he wanted.

This is the final year of production for the Charger and the Challenger, with the latest technology built in to complement the muscle underneath the engine.

Cronic has one of the largest inventories around, with available rebates that range from $3,500 to $5,000 for these V-6 and V-8 models.

The shopping experience for those

interested in these cars has never been better. Cronic just completed a year-long, $4 million renovation of its showroom that has greatly enhanced both the sales and service aspects of what the dealership offers.

As for the Challengers and Chargers themselves, Day summed it up this way: “You can’t find a car that represents the American feel and American muscle more than the Charger and Challenger, and you can find them right now for the last year at Cronic.”

Test drive one of these iconic cars today at Cronic Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM by calling (770) 227-4271. If you want to guarantee your piece of American muscle car history, reach out to Cronic as soon as possible. Because once they are gone, they are gone.

Simple Man

I recently saw motivational speaker, Connie Podesta, give a talk called “5 Stupid Questions Women Ask Men.” It was so funny, so revealing, and so true. The idea behind it was that men and women are completely different in just about everything we do, say, think, mean. But the one thing she did toward the end of the 10-minute clip was to single out a man in the front row of her audience and say to him, "Sir, I'm going to make the statement that men are simple. Does that offend you?" To which he replied, "Not at all." Honestly, I wasn't shocked by his answer. Men know who they are and accept it. That's part of what makes them men and one of the reasons I am so jealous of the way men think.

Women, however, sure like to complicate things, don't we? I am one and I can't figure us out. Heck, I can't even figure myself out half the time! Our brains are wired like a bowl of cooked spaghetti with thoughts and feelings and desires and words all jumbled up together so when those things come spilling out our mouths, sometimes they just don't make sense to a man. Men are more like dry spaghetti right out of the box, and they can take one noodle out at a time; look at it, analyze it, and make a decision based on that one noodle. Oh, I am so jealous.

Psychology Today states that "The male brain is wired from front to back, with few connections across the two hemispheres. Women, on the other hand, have more wiring from left to right, so the two hemispheres are more inter-connected." I guess I didn't realize that we are literally hard-wired differently. I think that's pretty darn cool and something to be celebrated. Men want clear, concise direction, and simple things like a good meal and a good night's sleep. Oh, to be a man.

I'm excited to highlight some of the men in our community who have taken their wonderful, simple, man brains and done some phenomenal things for businesses and others in need. And a very Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! I hope you get some simple time with your family and those you love.

Blessings

Zeke Listenbee

Worship Arts Pastor, New Hope Baptist Church

There’s nothing more joyful to Zeke Listenbee than to serve people with music. Pastor Zeke, as he is lovingly referred to by his church family, is the current Worship Arts Pastor at New Hope Baptist Church, overseeing all the singers, band members, and tech members for New Hope. “I’m a big proponent of raising up leaders and helping people develop their gifts.”

Zeke and his wife Cintia, with their three children, moved to Fayette County in March of 2022, and he believes there is something special about living here. “Living in Georgia, in the Atlanta area, has brought my creativity to a new level.” Inspired by watching his father on stage and at church, Zeke has had a love for music for almost 40 years. “Music is all I’ve ever done and I love every aspect of it.”

A six-time Grammy nominee, Zeke has worked with and played for some of the best artists in the industry. He is a Dove Award Winner for being a co-writer and vocal arranger for the traditional gospel song It is Well, featuring Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Jennifer Hudson, and Ricky Dillard. “My goal is to help people bring their musical dreams to reality.” His counsel for those aspiring to pursue music is simple: Discover your passion and remain dedicated to it. Two years ago he was requested to reimagine two songs from the Broadway musical The Color Purple. He created 6 versions of each song and the requesters loved it. The greatest compliment came from the original composer, “I really like what you did with my music.”

Steven N. Newton, Esq.

Owner, Steven N. Newton, LLC.

Good attorneys are plentiful, but when you find one with an outstanding work ethic, integrity,  and  heart, that is noteworthy. Meet Steven Newton, a personal injury attorney in Peachtree City, who believes that if one acts with integrity, a fulfilling life will unfold. “It is rewarding to me to help my clients find a way to resolve their problems. If I can help them find closure to a bad situation, I’ve done my job.” The desire to help others in a court of law was instilled early on. “I watched lawyer movies in the ‘90s and John Grisham is my favorite author, so I wanted to be an attorney at a young age.” Steven has been selected as a Rising Star attorney - the top 2.5 percent of lawyers under 40 in Georgia - since 2019.

Steven is a trial attorney with significant litigation experience in a litany of practice areas including insurance and criminal defense, family, general liability, and personal injury, but he’s also the guy you’ll find elbow-deep in supporting those in need. As a member of the Rotary Club of Peachtree City, Steven volunteers performing various community projects. He believes wealth is to be shared and supports financially as a top sponsor of several organizations -- Two Sparrows Village, the Trilith Foundation, Hearts of Teal, and Southside Support to name a few. He’s all about leveling the playing field, ensuring everyone gets a fair shot at justice, no matter their wallet size. “My mom and dad taught me what a good work ethic is, but also that it’s not just about work, it’s about giving back. I enjoy that I have the ability to assist and serve others.”

Steven is married to his favorite person on the planet, Ashley. “We’re partners in everything we do. She is too good for me.”

Jason Bass Creator of Possibilities

Jason Hunter Design

Once a cheerleader for the NBA, Jason Bass now cheers for his community and its entrepreneurs. Although his cheerleading career ended with his last performance at the Beijing Olympics, Bass is not one to sit on the sidelines. Eager to plug in after moving from New Jersey to Georgia nine years ago, he attended a Fayette County Chamber event. “The business culture down here was just completely different,” he said. “Everybody was super friendly and welcoming and wanting to make connections,” Jason said.

Jason quickly found a way to give back to his new community. He and Tommy Ruth developed the idea for Night Market, which has become a favorite Peachtree City event.

As the owner of a digital marketing company, Jason Hunter Design, the Chamber’s 2022 small business of the year, Jason loves seeing his employees and business succeed. “Our whole purpose is helping other businesses grow,” he said.  But through teaching at events such as Artpreneur and involvement in organizations including Start-Up Fayette and One Million Cups, Jason’s passion for helping others succeed is not limited to his clients. “I want to help and contribute as much as I can,” he said.

Jason and his wife, Katie, are the parents of three young children, Peyton, Ryan, and Dylan. Despite his busy family life, work, and community involvement, Jason still makes time for leisure. He enjoys running and training with a gymnast. He can’t imagine leaving this area. “I feel so deeply rooted in this community and everything that I’ve done around here that I don’t see how I could possibly restart this anywhere else.” CONTINUED >

Stephen REALTOR®Walker, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices

Georgia Properties

It was a blind date with his future wife that lured Stephen Walker, a native of Smyrna, to Fayette County.  Twenty-six years later, he’s still here, married to Michelle with two adult daughters, Elizabeth and Madeline. While his family is the joy of his life, Stephen has also built a successful real estate career and volunteered his talents to help those in need.

Early in his career, Stephen worked with Rich’s Department Store. But 24 years ago, he found his calling in real estate.   “It’s been a blessing,” Stephen said. “It’s been so rewarding to help people have a part of the American dream of home ownership. I just love what I do.”

Stephen takes his career as a Realtor® with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, Georgia Properties to the next level as a volunteer with the Georgia Association of Realtors®. He will serve as the organization’s president in 2025. Stephen is also a director for the National Association of Realtors® and a former president of the Fayette County Board of Realtors®. But Stephen’s heart for giving back extends far beyond real estate. With a music degree in vocal performance, he not only sings, but he also often uses his talent as an emcee for fundraisers and events for organizations including Bloom, The Joseph Sams School, and many others.

“I didn’t move forward with that degree in singing, but I’ve been able to expand the gift that God has given me to minister to these nonprofit organizations,” Stephen said.  “It’s an opportunity to be a blessing and to give back to the community.”

THE BUZZ ABOUT BOURBON

PROVIDED MUST SEE | FOOD + BEVERAGE 24
ARTICLE BY PAM REID | PHOTOGRAPHY

ATLANTA DISTILLERIES AND LOCAL EATERIES MEET THE INCREASED INTEREST, EXCITEMENT, AND DEMAND FOR BOURBON WHISKEY.

If you watched “Heist” on Netflix, then you know that people who love bourbon will go to great lengths to secure a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle, and other high-end bourbons. Spend enough time in Kentucky, and you just might come to enjoy the distinct taste of a smooth Old Fashioned or Manhattan.

Originating from the cornfields of Kentucky, bourbon has evolved from its simple beginnings to become a globally recognized symbol of craftsmanship and tradition. There are hundreds of different bourbons produced by distilleries across the United States. They range from well-known brands to small-batch and craft expressions. Bourbon and whiskey have discernible differences, and as the trend of bourbon tastings gains momentum, enthusiasts can savor a distinctive experience.

BOURBON VS. WHISKEY

While all bourbon is whiskey, not all whiskey is bourbon. The primary difference lies in the mash bill and aging process. Bourbon must be made with a minimum of 51% corn, while whiskey can be made from a variety of grains. Additionally, bourbon must be aged in new charred oak barrels, whereas whiskey barrels can be reused. These distinctions result in variations in taste and character, with bourbon often exhibiting sweeter, smoother flavors compared to other types of whiskey.

UNDERSTANDING BOURBON

According to ASW Distillery’s Chief Marketing Officer Chad Ralston, “To be legally labeled as bourbon, it must meet specific criteria set by law. These include being made only in the United States, containing at least 51% corn in its mash bill, aged in new charred white oak barrels, distilled to no more than 160 proof, barreled at a maximum of 125 proof, and bottled at a minimum of

CONTINUED > 25 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/FAYETTECOUNTY JUNE 2024

80 proof.” The aging process in white charred oak barrels imparts bourbon with its distinctive flavor notes, contributing to its complex flavor profile. “Almost all distilleries in the country age in 53-gallon barrels, as do we. Four years is about the minimum for it to really taste like bourbon.”

THE RISE OF BOURBON TASTINGS

In recent years, bourbon tastings have surged in popularity, offering enthusiasts the opportunity to explore the nuances of different bourbon expressions. These events often feature curated selections of bourbons, allowing spirit lovers to sample a range of flavors and learn about the history and production methods behind each bottle.

Positano Pizza Napoletana is a local option with an impressive selection of bourbons and an equally enticing lineup of bourbon cocktails. This Peachtree City eatery elevates the dining experience through expert bartending and creativity. Whether you prefer your bourbon neat or mixed into a creative cocktail, Positano offers a taste of bourbon bliss that keeps patrons coming back for more.

EXPLORING SIX ICONIC BOURBONS

1. Bulleit Bourbon: Known for its high-rye mash bill, Bulleit Bourbon delivers a bold and spicy flavor profile with hints of dried fruit and oak.

2. Elijah Craig: Named after Reverend Elijah Craig, deemed the “Father of Bourbon” for being the first to char oak barrels, this brand offers a rich and full-bodied experience with notes of caramel, vanilla, and spice.

3. Heaven Hill: As one of the largest producers of bourbon in the world, Heaven Hill offers a diverse portfolio of bourbons, ranging from entry-level to premium offerings.

4. Angels Envy: Finished in port wine barrels, Angels Envy stands out for its unique flavor profile, rich fruit notes, and velvety texture.

5. Woodford Reserve: Crafted in small batches, Woodford Reserve is celebrated for its balanced and sophisticated flavor profile, featuring notes of caramel, spice, and toasted oak.

6. Old Fitzgerald: With a heritage dating back to the 1800s, Old Fitzgerald offers a taste of bourbon history. To be labeled as “Bottled-In-Bond,” a spirit must meet specific criteria, including being bottled at 100 proof. Its wheat mash bill imparts a soft and delicate profile, with notes of honey, citrus, and baking spices. While a bit pricey and less common than some other brands, it has earned a loyal following among aficionados of traditional bourbon. Bourbon drinkers who prefer to savor the flavor of the spirit, often enjoy it straight or on the rocks. This includes enthusiasts who appreciate the complexity and nuances of bourbon, as well as those who enjoy the ritual of slowly sipping a well-crafted bourbon like ASW Distillery’s Fiddler Toasted Bourbon Cask Strength. This premium bourbon is characterized by its deep, warm tones with hints of caramel, vanilla, and oak, complemented by subtle notes of toasted grains. The cask strength amplifies the intensity of the flavors, delivering a bold and robust drinking experience. If you’re looking to embark on a bourbon-tasting journey, look no further than aswdistillery.com. Here, you’ll find all the details and schedules of upcoming events, where you can explore a variety of bourbons and expand your palate. Reserve your spot and indulge in an unforgettable bourbon-tasting experience.

Dear Zachary,

GRIEVING FATHER HONORS HIS SON'S LEGACY BY HELPING OTHERS.

Like any young couple expecting their first child, Jason and Jennifer Tuttle of Newnan were excited at their ultrasound appointment. Jason wanted to know the sex of their child; Jennifer wanted to be surprised. Abruptly, the ultrasound technician ended their playful argument. She’d discovered an issue with the baby and needed to inform the doctor of the baby’s sex. The Tuttles were having a son—Zachary.

Jennifer was put under the care of a perinatologist who explained Zachary would be born with neurological delays and would likely suffer epilepsy and seizures. He had a missing kidney as well as areas of missing white matter in his brain. But it wasn’t until Zachary’s birth they learned he also had Eagle Barrett Syndrome. The rare congenital disorder includes urinary tract abnormalities and is commonly known as prune belly for its deficient abdominal musculature.

Even though he was thrilled after the birth of his son, gifted with stunning blue eyes, Jason admits that being bombarded with all the needed medical care hit him like a ton of bricks. “I lost it,” he said. Several years later, Jason decided to leave his teaching position and become Zachary’s fulltime caregiver. About two years after Zachary’s birth, Jason and Jennifer had a daughter, Samantha, born with the same neurological and developmental delays as Zachary, but without Eagle Barrett Syndrome.

GIVING BACK | LIFE + CULTURE 30
Jason is all set for his podcast

Despite his numerous medical needs, Jason describes his son as personable, laid back, and happy with weirdly accurate comedic timing. Zachary loved horseback therapy and was a huge fan of The Weather Channel, which he got to visit by invitation of the channel’s president.

By the time Zachary was 15, he was still non-verbal and comparable developmentally to a 4 to 6-year-old.  A wheelchair provided mobility, though he could walk with assistance. On January 28, 2022, Zachary’s condition took its toll, and he passed away unexpectedly after Jason had rushed him to the ER at Scottish Rite Hospital.

After Zachary’s death, Jason’s therapist suggested journaling to deal with his grief. Initially, what he wrote in the journal his mother gave him was personal.

He opened a Word document one day, wrote “Dear Zachary, today is a tough day,” and added all he felt at the moment.

Continuing to write the letters, Jason joined an online grief group where he shared them and drew a massive response.

As a man willing to share his feelings, he quickly struck a chord with other men and women who wanted the men in their lives to express their grief. “Letters To Zachary,” is now a Facebook page and on other platforms and Jason’s growing circle of influence in the grief community includes followers in 44 states and 18 countries.

“Grief sucks,” Jason said. “It’s life-changing.” Jason’s “Letters to Zachary” doesn’t sugarcoat anything about the grieving process.  “It’s raw, unfiltered, transparent and in the moment,” he said. “I’m the type of person that if I don’t get it out, it will just eat me on the inside.”

Sharing his grief is cathartic for Jason. It helps others navigate the grieving process and most importantly creates a legacy for Zachary.  “Zachary made me into a much better man than what I was,” Jason said.  “He taught me to enjoy the little things in life because you never know when things will change in the blink of an eye.”

Search Letters to Zachary on Facebook to connect with Jason.

Look Good, Feel Good

Johanna and Rich Sullivan own Clear and Present Strangers, helping people change their relationship with alcohol.

According to my wife, Idris Elba is very handsome and Ryan Gosling is hot. She’s not wrong. Many celebrities are blessed with good looks, but beyond their fame and physical features is something all of us mere mortals have access to; clothing. The age-old saying “the clothes make the man” is worthy of consideration. When you notice women eyeing a guy in public, nodding in approval among each other, the man is generally very well dressed. As the ZZ Top song goes, “Every girl crazy ‘bout a sharp-dressed man.”

A man’s sense of style communicates a lot about him. But many people meet important personal and business contacts, by chance, in places we don’t necessarily get dressed up to be - like the grocery store, or a ball game. A wardrobe is important and one must be mindful of who, what, where, when, and why, the outfit will be worn. Ever show up for a date overdressed? How about

underdressed? How about a bad suit at the company holiday party? I’ve had several moments like this in my life and they’re embarrassing. Looking back, a lot of it could have been avoided with some forethought and asking for some help. Look up men’s fashion on Pinterest and you’ll see all kinds of outfits for work, working out, nightlife, and more. Clothes really do make the man. When we look good, we feel good. We perform better and exude confidence. The care we take with our appearance can pay big dividends. Get a new pair of shoes. Get a new suit, and have it tailored. Own a few, crisp dress shirts. A brand-name belt and some nice shoes can make an outfit pop. Get some new stylish workout clothes. If you’re going casual, keep it tight. There’s not a thing wrong with jeans and a ball cap, just make sure they fit well. The way we present ourselves says so much.

Carne Asada Tacos

PROVIDED A LITTLE BIT OF WORK, BUT A WHOLE LOT OF SATISFACTION!

If you find yourself craving the authentic taste of a street taco and you’re not sure where to go, look no further than your home kitchen and your backyard grill! This recipe has been a favorite of ours for years and it never disappoints. Use this recipe for your next backyard party and you will be asked to make it for every event!

CULINARY CREATIONS FOOD + BEVERAGE 38

ingredients

• 4 cloves garlic coarsely chopped

• 1 jalapeño stemmed seeded and coarsely chopped

• 1 1/2 cups fresh cilantro leaves

• 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

• 1/4 cup fresh orange juice

• 2 Tbs. fresh lime juice

• Kosher salt

• Ground black pepper

• 2 lb. skirt steak trimmed of excess surface fat

• 1 cup diced red onion, or pickled onions is a good alternative

• 1 16 oz. jar of Salsa Verde, or salsa of your choice

• 18 corn tortillas, or flour tortillas for an alternative option

• 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves, roughly chopped

• 4 oz. (1 cup) crumbled cotija cheese or queso fresco

• 4 limes cut into wedges

Cooking Instructions

1. Marinate the steak: Pulse the garlic and jalapeño in a food processor until finely chopped. Add 1 1/2 cups cilantro and pulse a couple more times. Transfer to a baking dish or zip-top bag large enough to hold the steak. Add the oil, orange juice, lime juice, 1/2 tsp. salt, and a few grinds of pepper and stir to combine. Add the steak and marinate for at least 1 hour at room temperature or up to 3 hours in the refrigerator.

2. Grill the steak and serve: Prepare a high (500°F to 600°F) charcoal or gas grill fire. Remove the steak from the marinade, season with salt and pepper, and grill, flipping once, until grill marks form on both sides and cooked to your liking, about 3 minutes per side for medium rare (135°F). Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for 5 minutes.

3. Meanwhile, warm the tortillas on the grill until light grill marks form on both sides and they soften, about 30 seconds. Slice the steaks with the grain into 4 to 5-inch-long pieces, then against the grain into thin slices no wider than 1/4 inch.

Assemble the tacos with tortillas, steak, salsa, onion, cilantro, and cheese. Serve with lime wedges.

RESTORE YOUR SELF

Challenge your inner warrior at this marvelous Mexican resort.

Welcome to the wonderful W Punta de Mita! This luxurious seaside retreat, nestled along the pristine shores of Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit, offers breathtaking ocean vistas and never-ending beaches. The intoxicating sounds of the sea embrace me providing an oceanic soundtrack for my stay and immediately taking

me to a state of peaceful mindfulness that delivers relaxation and excitement simultaneously. Whether you choose to delve into the resplendent indigenous culture of the region, a crafted culinary experience, or simply frolic in the ocean, this destination is the epitome of modern luxury in a thoughtful, understatedly elegant, tropical paradise.

Shortly after arriving, I realized that my vacation was to be not only a time of rest but also one of reflection and challenge. Every man needs to feel himself grow regardless of age or ability and every man certainly needs to heal from the pressures of life. W Punta de Mita offered everything that I needed to reclaim my inner warrior, feel a profound sense of accomplishment, and get the desired peacefulness that I needed to recharge myself for the rest of the year ahead.

W Punta de Mita is a global culinary adventure with a local Mexican twist. Dining at the incomparable

Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s beachside Spice Market and the hotel’s main restaurant, Venazu are a must. Saddle up to the lobby bar and enjoy a signature mescal cocktail and some fish tacos. Parked upon the beach in its forever home, you can find another crowd favorite, Chevy Ceviche.  A repurposed powder blue Chevy truck; the ceviche bar offers some of the most creative seafood dishes served up surfside.

Embarking on my first adventure was an exhilarating journey into the realm of waves, mindfulness, and balance; I was to go surfing.  After some onshore training, I paddled out, dipping my board into the ocean waves. The rush and anticipation were real. Mixed with the salty ocean spray and crisp air my heart pounded as I stood atop my board and, for the first time, caught my wave. The feeling of the ocean’s energy beneath my slowly steadying legs literally took my breath away. With each wave, I

learned more about my physical and mental limitations, the ocean’s rhythm, and my steadfast determination to hang ten, ultimately finding harmony between my life and the sea.

The Mayan Cacao ceremony is one of healing and connection. It represents not only a strengthening of self, but a unity and peace within, and a natural expan sion to all living things. Guided by Gina Cordova, a Mayan holistic therapist, the cacao ceremony sought to connect me to not only the physical ground beneath me but also the sky, moon, and stars that dazzled above the sandy beaches.  Eating and praying the history of the Mayan cul ture, thoughtfully guided and enriched by interpretive music was a once in a lifetime experience.  It was an amazing experience that has reverberated in the weeks and months since I visited Punta de Mita!

As I continue to travel and explore this amazing world of ours, W Hotel, Punta de Mita will remain one of the highlights of my life. It was here that I reclaimed my voice and refreshed the male warrior within, allowing me to grow without boundaries into my limitless future. It was an experience like no other.
