People who are looking for a sporty, fuel-efficient way to get around town are finding a great deal of satisfaction in the Nissan Kicks, and Cronic Nissan in Griffin has plenty of them available.
Described by Nissan as a subcompact crossover SUV with the right mix of style and technology, the 2024 model has a predicted reliability score of 82 out of 100 according to U.S. News and World Report. Locally, people are coming to Cronic and moving on from their previous cars to the Kicks.
“I get good trade-ins,” said Cronic general manager JC Coissy. “People are bringing in Sentras, Versas, even some Altimas.”
The Kicks is a model that is proving popular with couples who do not need a third-row SUV but just want something they can drive around town with their dogs without worrying about spending a ton of money on gas.
Its smaller size makes it easy to maneuver, especially when parking, and easy to get in and out of. Gas mileage can range from 33 miles per gallon in the city to 36 on the highway, Coissy said. It is equipped with Bluetooth and CarPlay technology suitable for Apple or Android devices, as well as a backup camera and all of the safety features that motorists expect in 2024.
Perhaps the most amazing feature of
the Kicks is its base price, which is under $23,000. It doesn’t take a lengthy period of automobile shopping to discover that finding any make or model of a new vehicle can be very difficult. But that is not the case at Cronic, where there can be 8-10 Kicks models on the lot on any given day.
“I’m getting quite a lot of people buying the Kicks and a lot of them are from Fayette County,” said Coissy.
To explore your dream Nissan, you can visit croniccars.com, phone 770-575-8591 to schedule your test drive, or stop by the dealership at 2624 North Expressway in Griffin.

Your
Homesick
Sleepovers were not my strong suit when I was a young girl. I wanted my bed, my pillow, my stuffed animals surrounding me, my mom and dad in the next room. Can I help it if my home was awesome and my mom was a good cook and I didn't want Pizza Hut?
One night, my best friend who lived five doors down had me over for a sleepover. (Joanne, if you're reading this, hi and I love you!) I knew her whole fam ily well. I even called her mom, "Mom". But that night, my 8 or 9-year-old self just wanted to be home. I remember feeling so embarrassed when, after about an hour of crying, my other "mom" had to call my actual mom to come and get me. But I didn't care, I was just plain homesick.
Since then, I have lived in many houses, apartments, and other people's homes when going through rough times financially, but I never felt more at home like I did when I was a child... until now. Moving to Fayette County over a decade ago was one of the best decisions we have ever made. I'm so blessed that my husband supported that move. Honestly, he supports just about anything I feel strongly about, and this move was a big one.
I miss my hometown and I miss all of my family back in Chicago, but I am not homesick anymore. Fayette County is full of families with special needs children who love us and love our special needs daughter, Abby. Fayette County is full of civic leaders who love their communities and business owners who support each other and support local organizations. Fayette County has embraced this magazine and all of our fabulous advertising partners. Fayette County is full of growth and new ideas, new people, new restaurants, new businesses, and new schools. I'm elated!
We hope you enjoy reading our "Home Issue" this month, but even more so, we hope you enjoy living in Fayette County, GA. What a beautiful, wonderful, ever-evolving place to call "home".
Blessings to you all, friends!

Choosing An Electric or Gas Cart at Golf Rider
One of the most popular golf cart models available at Golf Rider has a number of impressive features and also comes with two important choices regarding its power source.
The E-Z-GO ExpressTM S4 is one of Golf Rider’s carts that can be purchased with either the Explorer or Commuter package, depending upon whether the driver wants to simply drive around town or prefers a more adventurous look and performance.
“The Explorer has aggressive tires and a brush guard. A lot of people like that look,” said Golf Rider general manager Lee Woodruff. “On the Commuter package you can have a street tire and blinkers, which is what a lot of people use around Peachtree City.”
The Express S4 has two rearfacing seats. The flip-down back seat allows for storage, which is handy for everything from grocery runs to yard work. The extra clearance is handy for going over stumps and curbs.
One key option with the Express S4 is the choice of a gas or electric model. Each has its advantages.
Electric Cart Advantages
The electric cart is powered by a lithium battery that can have a range of up to 46 miles on a single charge. It comes with an eightyear warranty, although customers typically do not have to use it.
“We have yet to replace a battery for a customer under warranty for any problem – usage or manufactured defects,” said Woodruff. “They’ve been pristine.”
Lithium batteries require zero maintenance except to make sure
to charge it at least once every 30 days. Set it and forget it.
Gas Cart Advantages
Gas golf carts serve differently than their electric counterparts. Some customers might store their vehicles at home in places without power connections, and public charging stations are not

everywhere. Those who drive longer distances, especially from less urban areas outside Peachtree City, need the security of a full gas tank. Lithium batteries are also more expensive.
“For many people, gas means freedom and is more costeffective,” said Woodruff.
Service On The Go
If a problem with your cart leaves you stranded somewhere in

““Angie would take my original idea and make it better.”
In May of 2021, Kristen Passos commented to her husband, “If only we could find an empty lot on a lake in this area, then we can build our dream house.” Kristen recalls that only a few hours passed when Marcelo responded that he found the lot and was going to call and make an offer. Marcelo and Kristen engaged in a new build project with Greg Love Homes and Palmer Kay Design. The Passos brought a different level of involvement to the project. It’s not every day a client comes to the builder and designer prepared with plans, designs, and a 3D model of their dream home for a virtual walk-through.
Angie Palmer lives in Peachtree City with her husband of 28 years, JB, and their fur babies Lucy and Jerry. She is the owner and principal designer of Palmer Kay Design and specializes in transforming spaces. Angie strives to deliver high-quality, customized interior design solutions for all types of spaces to turn dreams into reality. Her entrepreneurial journey is rich with passion, dedication, and an innate flair for design, and narrates a story of beautiful interiors, stunning exteriors, and incredible new beginnings. Through the years, Angie enjoyed renovating the homes she and her husband lived in. It was a passion her husband could see she loved and had a genuine talent for. It was no surprise to her when he suggested she give thought to doing it full-time. A careful planner by nature, Angie gave meaningful thought to how she would embark upon the journey to transition from a full-time corporate career in finance and procurement to a career in interior design.
Encouraged by her husband’s support, Angie took a strategic approach and delved into exploring the design business. Seeking guidance from a business broker, she unraveled the intricacies of the design industry and eventually became a franchise owner in the decor space. The journey of self-discovery and professional training in the decor space laid the foundation for Angie to confidently proclaim her status as a design expert. In 2007, she took the plunge and officially launched Palmer Kay Design, marking the beginning of a chapter defined by creativity and dedication.
The decision to fully embrace the world of design was not without its challenges, especially in light of her decision to maintain her full-time corporate job. It was challenging to balance it all, and in the first year of business, as the financial crisis in 2007 unfolded, the company Angie worked for went under. At a crossroads and faced with uncertainty, Angie perceived this as a divine sign - God’s way of saying it was time to just step away and take the leap into full-time design work. Angie firmly believes that “If you step on the right path for yourself that is really powerful, and I think doors open and things happen for you.” It wasn’t long before she began focusing on whole house projects, drawing inspiration from her own home renovations - from a whole house perspective and a whole house plan, not just one room at a time. Her advertising efforts targeted this specific niche, and soon, significant wins propelled her into a trajectory of success. “I got a couple of really big wins. That set the path and it has been going ever since.”
Angie’s scope of focus expanded over the years. In creating her vision board, a practice she commits to annually, Angie included her desire to work with a builder. She saw the possibility, as well as its potential, as the evolution of her business to work in new construction - to work on projects from inception to completion. Recommendations from several showrooms, and previous clients, have been instrumental in expanding Angie’s reach, solidifying Palmer Kay Design’s reputation. March of 2021 brought an unexpected call from a builder, setting the stage for a successful partnership that has thrived through more than 20 luxury custom homes. This opportunity is a testament to Angie’s belief that what is meant for her will come to fruition. “Working in new construction has become a real love of mine. I really love working on new construction from beginning to end with a client.” A published and award-winning designer, Angie sets the vision and guides the team to create the perfect atmosphere for each client’s unique journey. “Our team is dedicated to collaborating closely with clients, from the initial consultation to the final

reveal, to bring their vision of home to life in the most beautiful and functional way.”
Marcelo, a civil engineer with a penchant for design, engaged Angie early in the process. The collaboration brought together their creative ideas, resulting in a home that exceeded Marcelo’s expectations. “Angie would take my original idea and make it better.” There was a lot of that. “Angie was always very pleasant, and always very constructive. She would candidly tell us when she didn’t like something, and we would do the same.” Both Marcelo and Kristen appreciated Angie’s responsiveness, creative input, and local availability, factors that significantly contributed to the success of their project. They found immense value in Angie’s ability to enhance their ideas and make thoughtful suggestions throughout the process. There were times when
the couple would look at something Angie proposed and would say, “We would never have thought of that.” This was considered a huge value add for the couple.
Angie’s approach to design goes beyond aesthetics; it’s a deeply personal journey for each client. She engages in comprehensive discussions to understand their vision, lifestyle, and preferences. Whether working on new construction or renovations, Angie strives to create spaces that align with her client’s dreams. Palmer Kay Design’s focus on being a full-service design company distinguishes it in the industry. Angie emphasizes, “From soup to nuts, from the time the first brick is laid on the property all the way up through the time we are putting flowers on your table.” Angie characterizes her style as traditional with a modern edge and loves the unique challenges that arise with

new projects. One noteworthy project is the new home build and interior design for Marcelo and Kristen Passos, in a well-established community in Fayette County. “I worked with them on everything from building the house to furnishing and decorating it as well. The home is very modern, and they were fun to work with.”
The couple shares their experience of collaborating on their dream home with gratitude and an appreciation for the experience and expertise of the team. Marcelo cannot pick just one favorite room. “I love my living room. I love my bathroom. I designed it myself and Angie was a huge help in eliminating the things we didn’t need.” Kristen chimes in, “I’ve always wanted a dream laundry room. Angie selected a really unique color that I would have never even considered, and it wound up being beautiful.” Marcelo finishes, “The downstairs area came out fantastic. There are so many places in this house that are fabulous, and I haven’t found my favorite.”
For Marcelo and Kristen, Palmer Kay Design was the perfect choice for their forever home. “Angie was always available and very attentive. We are so proud of what we all did. We did such a great job as a team. Building is not for everybody, but with the right people, the project can go well and be enjoyable.” Marcelo adds lightheartedly, “I really wanted to build my house the way that I wanted
it to look. I don’t know if I was one of the best clients for Angie, or one of the worst.”
Marcelo is a little sad that the project is over. “It was a really fun project, and the collaboration with Angie Palmer and Greg Love was great.”
“At Palmer Kay, we believe that interior design is more than just creating beautiful spaces. It’s about using our expertise to enhance the functionality, flow, and overall vibe of a home or office. Our passion for design lies in creating spaces that reflect the unique personality and style of each client, ensuring that the final result is one that truly feels like home. We value the relationships with our clients, partners, and the trades, and lead with integrity, empathy, and kindness in all that we do.”
If there’s just one thing Angie would like future clients to know, it’s that, “We are here to partner with you, wherever you are in your design journey. We are not here to judge your home or make light of things in your home. It’s an honor to be invited into someone’s home. Your home is your sacred space and I take it very seriously.”

Bananas Foster Bread
We have unlimited recipes available to us at our fingertips today, but there's nothing quite like looking through my recipe box and finding an old favorite with stains and smudges from years gone
by. Fresh from the oven, filling my house with the lovely smells and memories of the past, like an old friend coming for a visit with remembrances of old times.
INGREDIENTS
• 1 ½ cups mashed ripe bananas
• 1 cup packed brown sugar, divided.
• 6 Tbsps. butter melted and divided.
• ¼ cup cognac or dark rum, divided
• 1/3 cup plain fat-free yogurt
• 2 large eggs
• 1 ½ cups flour
• ¼ cup ground flaxseed
• ¾ tsp. baking soda
• ½ tsp. salt
• ½ tsp. cinnamon
• 1/8 tsp. allspice
• 1/3 cup powdered sugar
DIRECTIONS
Serves 16
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine bananas, ½ cup brown sugar, 5 Tbsps. butter & 3 Tbsps. Cognac/rum in a nonstick skillet. Cook over medium heat until mixture begins to bubble. Remove from heat and cool.
Place banana mixture in a mixer bowl. Add yogurt, ½ cup brown sugar, and eggs. Beat with a mixer at medium speed.
In a small bowl, combine flour, flaxseed, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and allspice. Add flour mixture to banana mixture and beat until blended. Pour batter into a greased 9” x 5” loaf pan. Bake for 60 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven; cool for 10 minutes in pan on a wire rack. Remove bread from pan and place back on wire rack.
Combine remaining 1 Tbsp. melted butter, 1 Tbsp. Cognac/Rum and powdered sugar. Stir until well blended. Drizzle over warm bread. Savor to your heart’s delight!

GEORGIA LIBRARY SERVICE FOR THE BLIND AND PRINT DISABLED REMOVES BARRIERS AND OFFERS SERVICES TO MORE THAN JUST THE BLIND.
RESOURCES MATTER
BARD tablet in use INSPIRED BY | LOCAL SERVICES 34
Deemed essential during COVID-19, Georgia Library Service (GLS) for the blind and print disabled did not close their doors. With access to the library’s user-friendly online platform, and an amazing team of knowledgeable staff and volunteers, patrons considered
Once eligibility is determined, GLS patrons receive services at no cost for their lifetime, and benefits transfer with the patron if they move to another state. The goal of GLS is to send the patron the talking book player equipment and an initial shipment of books
“GLS MEETS PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE, OFFERING BOOKS IN THE WAY THEY NEED.”
GLS a lifeline during a very difficult time. Federally funded through the National Library Service, GLS programs are available to all Georgia applicants who meet eligibility.
GLS is committed to accessibility so that all may read. GLS is a free braille and talking book library service for individuals with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical disability that prevents reading or holding the printed page. GLS meets people where they are, offering books in the way they need - in braille or audio formats, mailed to their home for free, or instantly downloadable. Access to free materials is available to eligible patrons regardless of age, economic circumstances, or technical expertise. Books in the talking book collection begin at the preschool level through adults of all ages.
An electric braille reader, a talking book reader, and BARD - Braille and Audio Reading Download - are just a few examples of what is available through GLS to people who read differently.
within seven working days of receiving a properly certified application.
Eligibility must be certified by one of the following: Library staff or Librarian, Doctor of Medicine, doctor of osteopathy, ophthalmologist, optometrist, psychologist, registered nurse, therapist, or professional staff of hospitals, institutions, and public or welfare agencies (such as an educator, social worker, case worker, counselor, rehabilitation teacher, certified reading specialist, school psychologist, superintendent, or school media specialist).
GLS continues to expand its resources and works hard to reach greater numbers of eligible readers across Georgia. GLS Outreach Manager Gina Martin believes, “Everyone knows someone who can benefit from this program.” In addition to the amazing adaptive technology available for use at the library or at home, GLS provides a peer support group, book clubs, and technology training classes. They also schedule special events throughout

the year, including bingo, poetry slams, talent shows, and more.
Gina proudly shares the tremendous impact GLS has on the lives of patrons. “There are so many success stories with GLS. A patron who was born blind received her degree to fulfill her dream of being a preschool teacher, and we have people who have reconnected to their love of reading.”
Gina continues, “GLS improves the quality of life for our patrons and their loved ones. Their loved ones find joy in seeing the love of reading being fulfilled for their family member.”
Summer reading programs are a big part of every public library, and GLS organizes an annual schedule of summer reading activities for patrons of all ages. Large-print books are available through a partnership with Georgia’s PINES libraries. (PINES, or Public Information Network for Electronic Services, is Georgia’s “borderless library” system that allows PINES card holders free access to books and other materials in 300 library branches and affiliated service outlets throughout the state.)

“EVERYONE KNOWS SOMEONE WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS PROGRAM.”
Requests are managed through GLS Atlanta where a Reader Advisor will request the large print title and mail it to the patron. New to the list of programs at GLS is the 2024 Winter Reading Program. Gina hopes that people will continue to connect with GLS and find joy in their services. “GLS is one of the best-kept secrets, and has been around for more than 93 years.” You can find more about GLS programs, as well as an enrollment application and a calendar of events when you visit their website at gls.georgialibraries.org. GLS Reader Advisors are available Monday - Friday from 8 am-5 pm by calling 1-800-248-6701. They will answer questions, assist with book selections, and provide training on the use of the products and services. Georgia Library Service is located in Atlanta, but our own Fayette County Library is a PINES library and can help you throughout the process.

What’s the secret to a happy, healthy, and long life? Believe it or not, it’s actually quite simple: There are no secret ingredients, no sizable expenditures, and absolutely zero manufactured elements of any kind. Dive in with us as we share insights from our interview with the internationally renowned Blue Zones Founder, National Geographic Explorer, and award-winning journalist who is revolutionizing the way Americans make choices that can lead to living your best life.

INTO A
For more than 20 years, Dan Buettner has been fully committed to studying the health and longevity of Americans, as well as influencing the proper and attainable health-centric environments our communities should embody. What started with identifying five “blue zones” around the world— where people are living longer, as well as enjoying a higher quality of life in their elder years—has now also evolved into proactively creating ecosystems where our communities engage in setting the standard for clean health.
Buettner’s first cookbook, The Blue Zones Kitchen, is a fantastic resource, featuring ingredients and cooking methods that can increase longevity, wellness, and mental health. The recipes also include lifestyle tips such as proper portion sizes and the best times to eat dinner. Plus, check out his additional seven books that dig deep into everything from the exact foods you should eat to how your circle of friends and family can influence your quality of life.
Every time you go out to eat, you will consume an extra 300 calories that are laden with more sodium, sugar, and oil than eating at home. “Get your hands on a plant-based cookbook, pick a dozen recipes, and cook those with your family on Sundays. If you make the effort to cook it with your family, you will gain the skills and learn to make some good and whole food plant-based recipes.”
Tap into Dan’s wisdom that is creating a new category of places that are not merely the legacy of a healthy culture, but more consciously created by enlightened individuals that are intent on supercharging healthier communities! Follow @DanBuettner and @BlueZones

Meet the FCL Team
FUN FACTS ABOUT OUR EDITOR, BYRON PUGH
Auto Racing
Byron enjoys going fast. He still bears a scar on his chin from an early vehicle crash - a tricycle when he was three! His mom says "he's been hell on wheels from the start". His first competitive racing experience was Auto Cross with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).
Race Team
Byron's racing team, Blue Bayou, competed in the ChampCar Endurance Series. The fellows have run at Daytona, Sebring, Road Atlanta, and other tracks in the southeast.
Porsche Experience Center
As a result of his driving experience, Byron landed a job as a Driving Coach at the Porsche Experience Center. He has been there for 9 years sharing his passion for performance driving.
Pickleball
An introduction to the sport by his pastor resulted in a new obsession. Pickleball is a fantastic exercise and Byron takes advantage. If not on the track, you can likely find him on a pickleball court!
Family
My husband's sharp wit keeps everyone in our home laughing. Byron is the best daddy to our special needs daughter, Abby, and she loves him so. The poor guy lives with three girls (dog included) and he chooses to stay, LOL! We thank God for Byron every day.
