I have no doubt you all remember that song made famous a few years ago in that great Disney flick, Frozen. That song stuck in my head like glue.

It's an earworm I'd like to forget, but it's just so darn catchy. Piggybacking off of my Lifestyle Letter from December where I mentioned that I chose to do "All The Things" and that there may be a few things I can let go of, now that we are kicking off another new year, I'd love to see what I can potentially let go of in 2024.

Now to do some thinking. I know you are reading this in 2024, but I am writing this at the beginning of December 2023. Oh, the joy of print deadlines. Everything is 4 - 6 weeks ahead. Hmm, what can I let go of? I have so many commitments.

Things that are important to me, and to others. How do I say "no"? I'm going to have to figure something out if I'm going to keep any bit of my sanity.

I am the farthest from perfect of anyone I know. But God is using me to change things for Him, in His world, for people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. God is bringing people with the perfect resources, and hearts, to help us build more housing in South Metro Atlanta. Can I let that go? Absolutely not.

And I have chosen to produce this magazine every month. Every month there is the stress of editorial and sales deadlines, it's exhausting and exhilarating, all at once. This has become our livelihood. The work we do puts food on our table and keeps a roof over our heads. Can I let that go? Umm, no. I work with so many wonderful advertisers who have become more than just business associates... they are trusted friends. Can I let them go? No way.

Oh, I know! I can let go of playing games on my phone at 11 pm and get to bed earlier. That would probably do me a world of good.

Last May, when our HOA decided to change 2 tennis courts into 6 state-ofthe-art pickleball courts, something wonderful began to happen in the Whitewater Creek (WWC) subdivision. Already an exclusive gated community, the neighborhood has become

and loving the game, my hope was this would be an opportunity for neighbors to get outdoors, have fun, and make new friends. Working with several of our neighbors we were able to set up classes to teach newbies the game. We invited professional teachers from the

Created in the mid-’60s in Washington State, Pickleball has become one of America’s fastest-growing sports. That can be attributed to the ease of learning to play and the fact that you don’t need to spend a small fortune on equipment to get started.

Played on a court similar in size to badminton and using a typical tennis-style net, it can be played both indoors or out. The balls are plastic with holes, like what used to be called wiffle balls. The only thing you usually have to provide yourself is a paddle, which typically can be purchased for less than $100.

Upon learning in January that the community budget included building six pickleball courts, I began to envision what that could mean for our community. Having played for two years

local pickleball club and even set up a pickleball social event.

The response has been amazing!

Even though at times we have had to persuade and cajole some neighbors into trying pickleball, our persistence has paid off. A Whitewater Creek pickleball group has formed consisting of at least twenty-five dedicated players who spend as much time as they possibly can regardless of the heat or cold. Playing, laughing, and getting to know each other’s lives, families, and cultures. There is excitement and enthusiasm in WWC as people have discovered their neighbors and this fun-packed game. The pickleball group is so bonded that we’ve even decided to get team t-shirts sponsored by businesses of some of the club members!

Why are people so eager to play? It is great fun, but also an opportunity to socialize, be outdoors, reconnect CONTINUED >

“Pickleball has changed my life…..it went from mundane to exciting and fun. We are making new friends and as soon as we finish one session, we start thinking about the next.”

The WWC pickleball friends continue to grow. A new beginners class was held in September. Our vision is to involve as many neighbors as we can because it really turns a subdivision into a neighborhood.

Meal plans and “Grab-n-Go” prepped meals are offered, making it convenient for customers to maintain healthy eating habits. Eating the correct portion of the right foods prepared in a cleaner way is the Clean Eatz difference.

The mission statement for Clean Eatz Peachtree City is to be the first step to living a healthier lifestyle. Julie shares, “Ours is a cafe — a casual feel, a place where anyone at any time feels comfortable to come and sit, connect with friends, eat and chat, take a moment to regroup, have bible study, a business meeting, or whatever they need. All while having a healthy meal.”

According to Julie, “Clean eating is caring, not obsessing about ingredients. The cafe is open every weekday from 11 am - 7 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am - 3 pm. Julie brags, “People will travel an hour just to buy our buckeyes”. They sell energy bites, fudge, “Clean Crunch” made with their protein powders, protein popcorn, supplements, and Clean Eatz greens and reds (fruits and vegetables in a powdered form).

“You’re rarely prepared for the moment that changes your life.”

The number of people who need eyeglasses due to vision impairment can vary significantly based on factors such as geographic location, access to healthcare, and socioeconomic conditions. According to estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), approximately 2.2 billion people worldwide have vision impairment or blindness, and a significant portion of this is due to uncorrected refractive errors, which can often be addressed with eyeglasses.

If you are familiar with the biblical story of Moses, you know how uncomfortable things can get when you resist a directive from God. Fear, doubt, and insecurities often result in a desire to be excused from responsibility.

However, God’s guidance and patient

reassurance can give way to acceptance, and turn reluctance to obedience. Bryan Kaiser grappled with his own concerns about what God was asking him to do.

He would have preferred for God to find someone else. God’s gentle nudging and masterful orchestration pierced Bryan’s heart and today, some of the poorest in the world can see through the blessing that is God’s Eyes.

God’s Eyes is a nonprofit organization that hosts free eye clinics in third-world countries. “They are the poorest of the poor. They need everything and that’s where I want to be. I want to share the love of Jesus in a very tangible way by correcting their vision, and in a spiritual way by sharing the gospel.” This is the passion and mission of God’s Eyes Principal CEO, Bryan Kaiser.

Bryan will tell you that, “You’re rarely prepared for the moment that changes your life.” He heard these words as clearly as you are reading them now: “You’re going to make glasses for the world’s poorest people.” It took two years of sleepless nights and several unsuccessful attempts to negotiate with God before Bryan said, “Yes” and surrendered to the call on his life. He owned three successful optical labs and had the means to fill this pressing need, but that doesn’t mean it was easy.

“The Lord lovingly encouraged me to get a bigger worldview. I used to think 10% of the world was poor. Now I think 10% lives like you and me, and 90% of the world is poor.” Bryan, along with wonderful volunteers and medical professionals, travel to incredibly remote places where the level of poverty and living conditions are unimaginable by most of us.

People travel for hours and then wait in line for hours and even days just to have their eyes seen. Sometimes thousands show up for the eye clinics, and some eye conditions require surgery to repair the vision. “Can you imagine being told your child needs an operation and you can’t afford it?” This is the condition in the places where God’s Eyes serve. God makes a way where there seems to be no way. Some surgeries are made possible and patients, along with family members are incredibly grateful.

While Bryan is conducting eye exams, he meets people who have cancer and other serious health conditions, and they do not have the means to afford

treatment. “This is why we need everyone to do their part. Who’s going to pay for their medicine?” God’s Eyes extends the hand of God beyond what Bryan could ever do on his own. The organization purchased a house for a family with 4 children living in a garbage dump. “I can do something about that. There was something we could do. Yes, we need that money, but they need it more.”

The biggest promoter of God’s Eyes was Bryan’s best friend Woody. “We became friends 10 years ago and I got the joy of baptizing him in 2017 when he received Christ.” Woody always wore a purple t-shirt that read, “Ask Me About God’s Eyes”. Bryan and Woody were in a terrible car accident this past April and Woody died from his injuries. “We sell the t-shirts on our website. We call it the Woody shirt.”

Bryan established a fund from donations made in Woody’s honor. The Woody Battaglia Eye Fund is used to pay for eye surgeries for the poor. Woody was instrumental in encouraging Bryan to write and publish the book, They Shall See God, an absolute must read.

Bryan Kaiser pours his heart, “God is so good, and so loving, and so kind, and so merciful, and so forgiving that we should spend our whole life doing whatever it is he’s got planned for us.” He continues, “If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you’ve never spent a night in a tent with a mosquito.” Finally, “We can make a huge difference in this world if we just do whatever it is God’s calling us to do. The problem is, we just don’t do it.”

Two young moms without a background in fitness were looking for a fun activity that offered free childcare.

Both found what they were looking for in Jazzercise.

Amy Brown’s Jazzercise story began in Texas where she became a certified instructor before she moved to Georgia and began teaching Jazzercise in 2019. Anita Riggan’s Jazzercise story began in Tyrone, and she too became certified about the time Amy started teaching. That’s how the two met. Today, Amy and Anita are writing the next chapter of their Jazzercise story as the co-owners of Jazzercise Tyrone. Together, they answered some questions Fayette County Lifestyle posed about their business.

1. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TYRONE AS THE LOCATION FOR A JAZZERCISE FRANCHISE?

Tyrone was already an established location, and we purchased it from the previous owner. We both aspired to be owners of a facility and decided to collaborate our strengths together in Tyrone.

Jazzercise Tyrone is a great location because it is easily accessible to the surrounding cities of Fayette and Coweta counties.

2. IS JAZZERCISE EXPERIENCING A COMEBACK? HOW HAS IT CHANGED?

Jazzercise has been here since 1969 and has never gone away. Our ability to adapt and change keeps us current. The brand has never been afraid to modify its workouts to reflect new fitness trends or the shifting ways women have come to think about exercise and the purpose it should serve.

Dry January doesn't have to be boring with this refreshing mocktail.

Not much could be more refreshing than the sweet taste of a red bell pepper and fresh basil combined to make a lovely spritzer mocktail for two! Not overly sweet and oh so delicious!

Sweet Pepper Spritzer Mocktail ingredients: • 1 medium red bell pepper • 5 large leaves fresh sweet basil • 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice • 1 tablespoon agave nectar • 10 ounces ginger ale or club soda • Lemon wheels, for garnish • Fresh thyme (optional)

directions: Step 1. Cut two thin strips of pepper and reserve for garnish. Cut the remaining pepper into chunks.

Step 2. Add the bell pepper chunks to the bottom of a cocktail shaker.

Drop in fresh basil and add the lemon juice and agave nectar.

Step 3. Muddle well then fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.

Step 4. Strain equal parts into two glasses filled with fresh ice cubes. Yield is about 3 - 4 oz. total juices.

Step 5. Top with ginger ale or club soda.

Step 6. Garnish each glass with a lemon wheel, red pepper slice, and sprig of thyme.
