t’s all about style. A sporty mid-size SUV that offers a fresh, young and energetic vibe and luxury at an affordable price. A young mother, who is a dedicated client of Cronic, came in with their 2020 Envision just for an oil change. She saw a 2023 Envision on the lot, was wowed by the styling, and she left with it. Her daughter, who was with her, was even more excited about the new vehicle than mom was. What attracted her first was the styling of the SUV, what sold her on the 2023 was its safety features and quiet ride. Safety is one top features of the Envision. Buick calls its safety features the Envision Driver Confidence. This suite of six advanced safety and driver-assistance technologies comes standard. Included

As another vehicle’s approaching you, then it will drop the high beam. It’s intelligent to know when the high beam is appropriate.” The ride is extremely comfortable, with heated and cooled seats available in some of the higher end models. LIFESTYLE LETTER
The Spirit Of A Home I can remember almost everything about visiting my grandparent's homes when I was a child. My Grandma and Grandpa Humphreys (mom's mom and dad) lived on Crotty Drive in Erie, PA (pictured). I remember the creek at the bottom of the hill that was in their backyard and searching for crayfish under the rocks. I remember the fridge full of food and pop (silly people call it soda or Coke) that we rarely got at home. I remember their washer and dryer were in the garage, right next to the door that led down to the basement with the pool table and the shelves full of homemade canned peaches and tomatoes and pickles. My Grandma and Grandpa Conforti lived on Maple Ave in Downers Grove, IL, in the house that my father grew up in. I remember the ramshackle, rock fireplace that faced the street. I remember walking through the door and being smacked in the face with the smells of leg-of-lamb roasting in a massive, cast iron dutch oven (seriously, it must have weighed 20 lbs). I remember the Fruit Stripe gum, the cream soda, and the Pringles, which we only got at their house. I remember the tire swing out back and sitting at their dining room table after the food and dishes were cleared with my family playing cards... all sorts of cards - Bridge, Pinochle, 500, Oh Heck, Cad, Hearts, Crazy 8's. I remember the all-out fun we used to have whenever we visited with both sets of grandparents. I was able to see my G & G Conforti every month and every holiday we were home since they only lived about 25 miles away. My G & G Humphreys, lived 500 miles away so I only got to see them once a year. The road trips from Chicago to Erie were epic, though, and we truly made the most of car games like I Spy and 20 Questions. But mostly, I remember the family time and the spirit of their homes. It was welcoming and caring and I knew I was loved. What a gift! I pray that folks coming to my home feel welcomed and cared for. I feel I've been shown how to share the spirit of a home with others by some very special people who raised me. God bless you and we hope you enjoy our Home Issue!

At Home Again in Senoia Interior Designer Angie Palmer helps Senoia couple bring their space to life. ARTICLE BY ANGELA PALMER | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ELIZABETH LAUREN GRANGER
Several years ago, Jim and Janet Berridge downsized from their home in northwest Atlanta and built a custom home in Serenbe. The home was lovely, but Janet felt they had taken the downsizing too far, especially when it came to their favorite hobby, cooking. With their kitchen, grilling stations, and pan storage in three separate spaces across two floors, they knew it wouldn’t work for them long-term. When an opportunity to live near Senoia’s historic district with its quaint downtown and tight-knit community presented itself, they jumped at the chance.

The Berridges are empty nesters who both work from home, which they share with Sobe, their very sweet miniature Australian Labradoodle. They not only love cooking but also entertaining and being a conduit to bring people together who share common values, travels, and cultures. In fact, they influenced two other couples to build near them in Senoia, one just two doors down. With their first grandchild expected later this year, Jim and Janet wanted the house to be very comfortable for the kids and future grandkids to spend time with them. CONTINUED >

“I only wish I would have utilized Angie more as a champion, as I have seen my other friends do in working with her on their custom homes.” - Janet Berridge
Upon reviewing the orignial plans with architects, J Ryan Duffey & Brian Reide, and builder, Martin Dodson Homes, they were able to change the layout keeping their entire living and cooking space on the main floor. When they retire, they won’t ever need to go upstairs unless, of course, it’s to play with the Grands! Enter, Palmer Kay Design. Based on the Berridges’ desires, the kitchen design approach was akin to a commercial operation with a scullery and multiple workstations. Historically, a scullery was a small kitchen or room in the back of the house used for washing dishes. However, today’s scullery functions as a second kitchen and/or entertaining space with everything from ovens to coffee bars, and they have become quite popular in the new build arena. The Berridges needed functional working space to accommodate their tools and ingredients, and even the interior cabinet dimensions were created based on the sizes of their pans, some of which are made specifically for commercial kitchens. There is also an outdoor kitchen with grills and a third “smoking station” near the pool for preparing Jim’s famous barbeque. A native of Indiana, he learned the art of barbeque from his dad and has continued to take it to the next level by reading, watching cooking shows, and experimenting on his own. His goal is to create the perfect barbeque meal! He takes an artisan approach, cooking with charcoal and wood, and loves patronizing local butcher shops with two of his favorites
being Cork & Cleaver in Sharpsburg and Spezzano’s Market in Tyrone. Originally from North Carolina, Janet attended the High School of Fashion Industries in New York City and then spent two years at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). She focused on graphic design and video before ultimately completing an undergraduate degree and MBA in healthcare administration where she worked in design project management early in her career, eventually moving into asset management and supply chain contracting. From the preliminary design meeting, it was clear that they both had strong ideas going into the build process. They wanted some avant-garde touches, and a way to add depth without a lot of color. We quickly decided upon black interior doors and deep green as a backdrop for their caramel-colored sofa. Later in the process, we mixed metals adding gold, silver, and black to the lighting scheme with the black metal making a connection point to the doors and windows. When it came to working with me, they said they most appreciated my role in being a mediator regarding design decisions, calling out design issues within the building process, and level setting regarding materials, budgets, and the like. Their favorite part of the home is, of course, the kitchen and scullery. Their favorite design element is the limestone wall in the kitchen. The Berridge’s were a fun couple to work with because they really wanted to push CONTINUED >

themselves into something fresh and new. Wallpaper presented a challenge, but Janet and I worked through the books in my studio and eventually brought Jim in to see the favored selection for their master bedroom. It’s a modern mixed metal look with gold and silver geometrics on a cream background that perfectly suited their aesthetic. Jim and Janet have been in their new home since the fall of 2022, and have most recently hosted friends for a barbeque
competition complete with a blind taste test by their Dutch neighbors. Jim didn’t win this time, but he’ll keep on cooking! Angie works in collaboration with her clients to bring the vision of their dream home to life. She’s an expert at partnering with clients in the design/build process and transforming existing homes. THE REAL COST ...of not using a financial advisor may be more than you think!
Travis Wells is a Registered Financial Consultant with Money Concepts in Fayetteville. Unlike many investment consultants, Travis has no quotas or directives to sell required products and can thus better assist you in planning and achieving your financial objectives. Here’s some great advice from an expert.
TR AVIS WELLS, RFC Technology advances over the years have made our lives easier in many areas; healthcare, research, and communication, among others. The financial sector has also brought technology to the forefront with things like AI (Artificial Intelligence). These automated services (sometimes called robo-advisors) can miss considering you and your family’s individual circumstances and needs. They often will also not ask the specialized questions needed to guide you through how to avoid IRS penalties, higher tax brackets, and other costly mistakes. With something as important as your financial future and retirement, where does that leave the personal, human touch our brains are wired to look for? Each of us is more successful when we have an advocate or a coach assisting and guiding us toward our goals. Oftentimes they can point out scenarios and situations we were not even aware existed, thus helping us to avoid disaster or severe setbacks. In this environment of ever-advancing technology, we can be tempted to go with the cheapest option in areas of our

lives where we should be looking for the most value instead of the lowest price. When I go to see a doctor, I want the best of the best looking out for me, not the one who graduated near the bottom of their class. A faithful financial advisor’s True North will be the “F” word- fiduciary. Simply put, they will put your best interest at the top of their list and before everything else, including their own interests. More than just a mutual fund or stock picker, a principled financial advisor will incorporate risk management, insurance, retirement goals, etc., and provide you with recommendations that are to your benefit, not theirs. Their understanding of the market will help guide you through tough times, especially when the market is down due to normal fluctuations and your emotions can run high. When choosing a financial partner, be sure to look for someone who is readily accessible (unfortunately there are advisors who do not make themselves available for their clients) and is also properly licensed to call themselves a Financial Advisor. A true financial advisor will have more than a life insurance license; they will have passed specialized testing administered through regulatory agencies such as FINRA and the SEC. Looking for the right financial advisor to partner with can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Let our team with Money Concepts help you focus on your goals and make sense of the noise surrounding the market and investing. All securities through Money Concepts Captial Corp., Member FINRA/SIPC.

Our Family Caring for Yours
Mother-son team offer 'A New Day' for those needing at-home care.
ARTICLE BY SUSAN WALWORTH | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Michelle and Mitchell McAllister are a mother-son team with a mission to offer “A New Day” to those who need home care. Although larger chains offering similar services abound, as a locally owned business, A New Day offers a personalized alternative with Mitchell or Michelle available 24/7. “Our slogan is ‘Our Family Caring for Yours,’” Michelle said. “One of us is always accessible.” A New Day opened in Peachtree City last September and is licensed to provide care in six surrounding counties for elderly, disabled, or convalescing clients. Services include personal and companion care, household assistance, transportation, Alzheimer’s/dementia care, as well as other miscellaneous non-medical services. Unlike franchises with limited flexibility, Mitchell said A New Day can tailor services to client needs. Plus, as a registered nurse, Michelle is always available to field questions from clients as well as caregivers. “Every home care business has to have an RN on staff and that’s my mother,” Mitchell said. “We’re able to customize whatever the client wants. We don’t have someone higher up telling us what we can or cannot do.” And unlike traditional facilities, A New Day provides one-on-one care. “It’s our caregiver with the client,” Michelle said. “In a facility, they’re one of many. They’re assigned to a caregiver, but that person has quite a few people to care for that day. Our caregivers are going to come in and give each client individualized personal one-on-one care.” Care provided at home is an added benefit. “We have found that people do better when they’re in a familiar environment and can continue to live in the home they know and be close to their family,” Michelle said. “I would say it’s the same for people coming out of physical therapy, rehabilitation facilities, and hospitals, too.” During her long career as a registered nurse, Michelle experienced many aspects
of healthcare. But it was during 10 years of working with state programs that allowed elderly and disabled patients to stay in their homes that taught her the importance of home care. “I saw just how much of a need there is for quality home care,” she said. “I saw the importance of being able to stay in your home and age in place and how the caregiver becomes like an extended family member.” Michelle also learned the importance of respite care for patients’ families and that knowledge led to naming the business. “Maybe the family just doesn’t know what to do, or maybe they are exhausted because they’ve been providing care for their loved ones,” she said. “We can come in and offer a sense of relief. It can be a new day.” With A New Day, each patient has a personalized care plan. And all caregivers have undergone an intensive hiring process and background check and are CPR and first aid certified. Michelle personally provides skills training and testing. “We want them to embody the same values that we have,” Michelle said. Care is available 24/7 if needed and the emphasis is always on safety. “That’s why we’re there,” Mitchell said, “to keep the client safe.” Michelle believes companionship is just as important as physical care. “Through the past two or three years a lot of socialization and social groups that people had stopped,” she said. “Socialization is just as important as the medication that they take.” A New Day caregivers can encourage clients to get out of bed and get their day started, take their medication, go for walks, or participate in other activities. They can also help clients prepare healthy meals. “Grabbing something out of the pantry isn’t the best food choice if they are diabetic, have some type of heart disease or other health concern,” Michelle said. “We can CONTINUED >

help guide them in preparing balanced meals while providing companionship and independence.” Defined by a Southern accent she brought with her from the rural agricultural community of Wauchula, Florida, where she grew up, Michelle’s family has lived in Fayette County since 2005. Having her son become her business partner has been a win-win. “He has great innovative ideas,” Michelle said. “We’re able to constantly bounce ideas off of each other, and since we’re family we might know what the other one’s going to say before

they say it.” She wants A New Day to be a positive experience for her son as well as her clients and caregivers. “I want to make sure that it’s a good working experience for him so that he can learn and grow in his profession,” she said. Mitchell, who has known he wanted to be a business owner since he was in middle school, has a business background and was a realtor for about three years. “It’s been a great combination. We get along really well.” For more information about A New Day visit www.newdayprivatehomecare.com.

Home decor and design trends come and go, but a space that represents the true nature and heart of the person living in it never loses its appealing charm or authenticity. Sarah Thomas, owner of Sarah’s Home in Peachtree City, has an eye, an ear, and a heart for everything home. “What we have in here are things that are brand new, and old, and artful and eclectic so that it feels like someone’s home, not a showroom.” Creative paintings and other uniquely designed pieces from Sarah’s Home can be found in hundreds of homes throughout Fayette County. This summer will make ten years since Sarah’s Home opened its doors. Considered by some customers as the first store in the area to truly embrace color, Sarah Thomas shares her passion throughout the store. “Fabric makes me just gaga. I love color and fabric. I look at fabric as art.” There are beautiful, unique and interesting one-of-a-kind pieces throughout the store. Everything is inspired by Sarah’s love of art. Sarah is fearless when it comes to decorating and creating space a person can call their own. She readily encourages customers to add their personal touch, their voice, to the space being decorated. “Home is your safe space. It should give you that feeling of beauty, comfort and tranquility.” That’s what Sarah and her incredibly talented team - Rhonda Moye, Kristi White and Natalie Noeske - strive to help their customers create. Sarah says, “You can bring color into your art, into your wallpaper, and into your fabrics. Wallpaper has come back strong in the last five years, and the quality is unbelievable. If people
are nervous, they can put it in their powder room, which is a great little jewel box, or they’ll put it in the dining room. I say, ‘Don’t be nervous. Put it everywhere.’ It’s such a cool medium, and if installed and primed correctly, it can be removed easily; unlike in the 80s when we destroyed walls to remove wallpaper.” A year and a half into the business, Sarah added an upholstery shop. Sarah met her upholsterer, Noble Harris, years ago when she was taking upholstery classes. “Noble’s expertise and quality are unmatched. Ninety-nine percent of what we do in the upholstery shop is custom work for people. It’s not for the store floor because we don’t have the time.” There is a large inventory of fabric available, and it is Sarah’s pleasure to help you pick out something beautiful for your piece of furniture. “I have always considered furniture like art. I love to be able to take an older piece and put something new and fresh on it.” Sarah’s Home offers design consultation; custom drapery — any kind from Roman shades to full panels to swags with trim; custom pillows and loose cushions for outdoor furniture; custom headboards — provide a picture or idea and they can make it; wallpaper and lighting. They have catalogs of everything, including broadloom and area rugs. Quality furniture from North Carolina includes hard pieces like tables and desks. They also strip furniture and bleach it. Sarah says, “We make it easy for you. We connect you with an installer. We sell you the wallpaper and walk you all the way through the installation. Come in and see us. We can help you create a vision and a beautiful home.” Whether it is one room or an entire home, Sarah’s Home can transform your space to reflect your true sense of style. Something new and exciting is coming to Sarah’s Home. Ignacio Alvarez, a trained architect and interior designer, has just returned from Madrid where he took what would be considered the world’s best flower class. Within the next month, customers will enter Sarah’s Home and have access to

Sarah Thomas spent 10 years working in the industry before staying home to raise her 3 children - Katy, Charlie, and Curtis. During that time, she enjoyed sewing for her friends & family in the basement of her home. She also created and sold a novelty pillow line called Swap-A-Top. Since opening Sarah's Home in 2013, the business has evolved into a full-service design & gift house. Sarah is fearless when it comes to decorating and creating space a person can call their own. She readily encourages customers to add their personal touch, their voice, to the space being decorated.
I think you should live in your home for you. Don’t look at your house as an investment you’re going to get rid of one day, because you’ll never turn it into your cocoon of an environment. You’re always thinking, ‘It’s not mine. It’s not permanent. I’m going to

sell it one day.’ Don’t be afraid. It’s only paint. You can change it. It’s only wallpaper. You can change it too.” Follow Sarah’s Home @sarahshomedesign or visit them at 308A Willowbend Road in Peachtree City. They are open Tuesday - Saturday, 10 am — 5 pm.

5 Hot Trends
ARTICLE BY HALEY WILLIAMS PHOTOGRAPHY BY J.A. STENGER PHOTOGRAPHY
in Kitchen Design A peek at what’s ahead: bold cabinet colors, statement hardware and swaths of stone.
When designing your dream kitchen, it’s important to balance timeless features with elements that reflect your personality and design aesthetic. You may not plan to remodel your kitchen each year (does anyone do that?), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t creative ways to keep your space feeling modern and fresh. We spoke with interior designer Brooke Cover about the trends in kitchen design she’s seeing this year, touching on everything from cabinet colors and lighting to tile and countertop combos she’s loving.
TA K I N G T H E C O U N T E R M AT E R I A L U P THE BACKSPLASH Although the iconic subway tile backsplash is timeless in its own right, Brooke says she is seeing a big shift toward marble slab backsplashes — which add drama and depth to the kitchen. Not only is it easier to clean than tile, but a marble backsplash and countertop also sets the tone for the entire space and makes a big statement.
HIDDEN STORAGE, VISIBLE APPLIANCES
Brooke’s Pro Tip:
Gone are the days of it being a given to hide the fridge behind custom cabinets. Many brands of appliances are so beautiful and sleek these days, homeowners want to see them rather than hide them behind a cabinet facade. Small appliances, however, are another story. Custom cabinets and “appliance garages” aren’t going away anytime soon. Form and function make them a desirable addition to any kitchen.
I suggest viewing countertop slabs in person vs. a small sample piece because each slab has unique movement and colors. They are all so beautiful and works of art. Taking a trip to the warehouse will really help a client to understand the different types available and see the difference in the look of the material.

WA R M I N G U P THE WHITE We doubt the classic white kitchen will ever completely go out of style, but trends show people are going away from the white kitchen and gray cabinets. They’re opting for white mixed with warmer wood tones, dark greens and blues. Some homeowners are mixing vintage in with the new and modern through butcher block islands or other unique cabinetry choices. Black is making a bold comeback in some kitchens, while others usher in warmth through painted islands or other darker contrast tiles in the bar area. You don’t have to leave behind the timelessness when you warm up your space if you opt for equally timeless black and wood-stained accents. If you want a quick refresh, consider adding pops of wood through cutting boards or other decor accents on countertops or open shelves.
BOLD H A R D WA R E Mixed metals and sizes are having a moment in kitchens across America. Brooke says not to shy away from a variety of sizes of pulls and handles, depending on the drawer and door size. For instance, you may see a mixture of longer pulls on larger drawers and square knobs on smaller glassware cabinets - and that’s more than just ok - that’s recommended. As the heart of the home, kitchens shouldn’t feel sterile and hyper-coordinated - they should feel inviting and tailored to the space. Since no two kitchens will be exactly alike, feel free to boldly mix the hardware sizes and styles to the needs of your kitchen.
C O N T R A S T, C O N T R A S T, CONTRAST! From painted and stained islands to dark lower cabinetry with bright white uppers and mixed lighting fixtures, contrast is the name of the game this year. You’ll see this juxtaposition between clean white and darker colors or even this year’s favorite - greens and blues - all over newly designed kitchens. You’re not breaking any rules by coordinating sculptural pendants over the kitchen island with more vintage-inspired gooseneck sconces over the standalone bar or a chandelier over the eat-in kitchen. Home Cooking In An Instant! A HEARTY, FAMILY MEAL THAT TAKES LESS THAN 30 MINUTES.
Instant Pot Lasagna Soup Serves: 8
ingredients: • 1 lb. bulk Italian sausage, casings removed • 1 medium onion, chopped • 4 cloves garlic, minced • 8 oz. mushrooms, sliced • 1 tsp. Italian seasoning • 1 red bell pepper, chopped • 4 cups chicken broth • 2 (14 1/2 oz.) can Italian-style diced tomatoes • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce • 2 cups any curly-edged pasta, such as campanelle • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped • 2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded • 4 tsp. thinly sliced fresh basil, optional
Cooking Instructions: 1. Turn the Instant Pot to the sauté function. Add the sausage, onions, and garlic to the pot. Use a wooden spoon to break up the sausage into small pieces. Brown until the sausage is cooked through. 2. Stir in the red bell pepper, mushrooms, Italian seasoning, tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, and uncooked pasta into the pot, just pushing pasta down slightly into the sauce to avoid any pasta touching the bottom of the instant pot. 3. Cover the pot and secure the lid to sealing position. Cook on high pressure for 5 minutes. Once the timer beeps, let the pressure release for about 10 minutes naturally, then gently move the valve to “venting”. 4. Open the pot, add in the spinach, and stir. Ladle into bowls and sprinkle with cheeses and basil. Enjoy!
