We survived the holiday season, we rang in the New Year and now we get to celebrate the shortest month of the year, the month of love and the knowledge that spring is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

A lot happens in February. This month, we celebrate historically and culturally significant events such as Black History Month, President's Day, Valentine's Day and both Abraham Lincoln and George Washington's birthdays.

Some people also celebrate more, ahem, insignificant "holidays," such as National Drink Wine Day, Walk the Dog Day (shouldn't this be every day?) and Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day—don't miss it; it's apparently the first Saturday of the month. While there are already so many exciting things to look forward to for the next 28 days, we're bringing you more. There was also a success story shared by Entrepreneur Pam Berry, a domestic violence survivor. The encouraging event was held at Peachtree City Christian Church, and all of the proceeds benefitted Promise Place in their quest to fight domestic violence.

entered Plumyumi Day Spa on a cold Friday in December and immediately felt like I was at home. The spa’s décor, sounds and the customer service reinforced that feeling. The receptionist greeted me and offered me a cup of loose leaf tea. I was escorted to one of the two relaxation rooms where you can begin to zone out while enjoying tea and listening to soft, soothing instrumental music. Plumyumi’s owner, Eddy Logan, gave me a tour of the spa that started in one of the relaxation rooms where the gentleman can relax or where manicures and pedicures are done. He added not only are guests offered tea upon their arrival but also a warm neck wrap and eventually warm throws as well.

The spa included several single and two dual rooms, two showers that ladies can use after receiving scrub and mask treatments, a wet room for scrub treatments and body waxes and a private room for manicures and pedicures. Logan stated that his aim is to make Plumyumi a “destination resort.” “ That’s what we strive for here,” Logan says. eyes. And, that is exactly what is happening to Mazda as a whole and the CX-5 in particular. For the second year in a row, Mazda took the top spot in “U.S. News & World Report’s” 2017 Best Car Brand category. Mazda, which had always been known for its racier, sportier attitude, looked into its rearview mirror and saw the best of the other brand categories (SUVs, cars, trucks and luxury) tooting its horns trying to catch up. Helping lead the pack is the Mazda CX-5, which makes up about one-fourth of all of Mazda’s sales. Obviously, there is a lot to like in this SUV. Let’s go with the basics. There’s plenty of cargo capacity, good fuel economy and a nasty-weather driving capability that will more than handle Atlanta’s once-a-year snow storm or a more challenging trip up to Blue Ridge during January. What sets this apart from its competitors is the driving experience. It’s fun. It takes on Mazda’s Zoom Zoom Zoom! Ad tag and brings it to life. Not that you'd be racing down I-75, but you could, and that alone gives you a little extra attitude when driving the kids around.

SUV is sharp, precise and sporty. It lets you experience the road and the power rather than letting you just ease on down the road. You may be driving an SUV with two kids, a dog, groceries and soccer equipment but you don’t feel like you are — you’re back into those cool days when you hit the open road with wild abandon. The CX-5 comes standard with front-wheel drive, although the allwheel drive is available. The base car comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that brings 155 horsepower, which is a bit underwhelming. However, a better decision is to go with the 184-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine for an extra boost that brings with it a bit of zest, superior driving dynamics, pep and yes, zoom zoom zoom. Few competitors can rival this SUV’s ride for handling and agility. Another great aspect of this SUV is its gas mileage which delivers a 26 mpg in the city with 33 mpg on the highway. Of the nonhybrids in their class, only two (Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue) get better mileage. The interior pleases as much as the ride. We drove the Grand Touring, which is the top of the three price options. So, our car had leather-trimmed heated sports seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and power sliding glass moonroof, among other amenities. Of course, with any SUV, room is an issue, and the CX-5 doesn’t disappoint. The CX-5’s front seats have plenty of room, even in the back seat. There is a 40/20/40 split folding rear setback with fold-down center armrest. Behind the rear seats, the vehicle has 34.1 cubic feet of cargo space; flip the back seat down, and it increases to 64.8 cubic feet. Mazda C5 Sport comes in at about $21,795; the Touring at $25,215. The Grand Touring starts at $28,570 but brings so much more to the plate that it’s worth reaching a little deeper into your pocket. Of course, if you price compare, you’ll find Mazda is incredibly competitive. In fact, this SUV is incredibly competitive — in price, look, safety, comfort and ride. Test drive it and then see how it looks in your driveway. It’ll look just fine.
