LIFESTYLE LETTER

September 2026 Publisher’s Letter Dear Reader, As the seasons begin to change and we welcome the arrival of fall, September always feels like the perfect time for a fresh perspective. It's a season of new beginnings, renewed energy, and finding inspiration in both the familiar and the unexpected. When we hear the word "style," fashion often comes to mind. But I believe style is something much deeper. It's reflected in the way we live, the homes we create, the people we surround ourselves with, and the passions we pursue. It's a reflection of our personality, our experiences, and the story we're constantly writing. One of the things I appreciate most about Fairfield is the incredible blend of sophistication, creativity, and community spirit. Whether you're strolling through downtown, visiting one of our wonderful local boutiques, enjoying the arts, or supporting one of our many outstanding local businesses, you'll find inspiration everywhere you look. It's this vibrant character that makes Fairfield such a remarkable place to call home. As you enjoy this month's Fashion & Style issue, I hope you'll be inspired to celebrate your own unique sense of style—not by trying to be someone else, but by embracing what makes you, you. Authenticity never goes out of fashion. Thank you for inviting Fairfield Lifestyle into your home each month. It's an honor to tell the stories of the people and businesses that make this community such a special place to live, work, and connect. Wishing you a wonderful fall season filled with inspiration, confidence, and plenty of reasons to celebrate your own personal style.

Pretty... but time for something new.

THE MODERN EVOLUTION OF TEXTURE

For years, the word perm brought to mind tight curls and the iconic hairstyles of the 1980s. Today, texture has evolved into something entirely different. Clients are looking for effortless movement, soft waves, natural-looking curls, and hair that enhances their everyday style, not changes it completely. That’s where the American Wave comes in. CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM / FA I R F I E L D

23

More than just a trend, American Wave represents a modern approach to permanent texture. Instead of creating uniform curls, the stylists at H Salon, led by Owner and Creative Director Jackie Fernandes, customize the service to each client’s individual hair type, face shape, and lifestyle. The result is hair that looks naturally fuller, more textured, and beautifully lived-in. “At H Salon, we believe every service should be personalized. American Wave isn’t about creating the same curl on everyone—it’s about designing texture that complements each client’s face, lifestyle, and individuality,” says Jackie.

WHY IT’S BECOMING SO POPULAR

Today’s clients want hair that works with them, not against them. They want to spend less time styling while still enjoying movement, volume, and versatility. American Wave delivers exactly that. Whether someone wants soft, beach-inspired waves, added body and fullness, enhanced natural curls or just easier everyday styling, the service can be tailored to achieve their desired look while maintaining a modern, effortless finish.

IT’S ABOUT CUSTOMIZATION

No two American Wave services are exactly alike. A skilled stylist carefully designs the placement, size, and direction of the waves based on the client’s haircut, hair texture, density, and personal style. The goal isn’t to create a “permed” look; it’s to create hair that appears naturally beautiful. This personalized approach makes the service suitable for a wide variety of hair types and ages.

WHO IS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE?

American Wave is perfect for clients who: • Want more volume without daily teasing or hot tools. • Love beachy texture year-round. • Have fine hair that lacks movement. • Want to enhance their natural curl pattern. • Are looking to simplify their styling routine. CONTINUED >

THE LUXURY OF LOW-MAINTENANCE HAIR

For clients who have always wished for a little more movement, body, or effortless style, American Wave offers an exciting new possibility. Modern texture isn’t about changing who you are; it’s about enhancing what you already have. Jackie’s philosophy is simple, “Beautiful hair should always feel effortless and uniquely you.”

THE FUTURE OF TEXTURE SERVICES

H Salon 75 Hillside Rd. Fairfield CT 06824 203-255-0798 hsalonfairfield.com

One of the biggest benefits is that clients often spend less time styling their hair each morning. Many find they can simply air-dry, diffuse, or do a quick blow-dry to achieve beautiful, effortless texture. It’s the perfect blend of beauty and convenience, something today’s busy lifestyles truly appreciate.

As the beauty industry continues to embrace individuality and natural beauty, texture services are becoming more sophisticated than ever. American Wave reflects this shift by focusing on soft, wearable results that complement each person’s unique features rather than creating a one-size-fits-all curl.

CIRCA 1970 The Hollywood Secret to Effortless Skin

ARTICLE BY SAMANTHA SCHOENGOLD BERANBOM

Dream job alert! Fairfield resident Amy Komorowski is the cool girl we wish was in our mom group chat. One of the industry’s most sought-after men’s groomers, Amy’s work spans red carpets, magazine covers and concert tours, while her dedicated client roster reads like a who’s who of the most recognizable faces on our feeds, our screens and in today’s culture. Amy’s signature approach is the effortlessly polished, no-one-knows-you-weregroomed look seen on some of today’s hottest celebrities, including Jacob Elordi, Jonathan Bailey, Adam Driver, Austin Butler, Bradley Cooper and the list goes on. Told ya—DREAM JOB. The best part? Amy isn’t gatekeeping. She’s sharing the behind-thescenes tips and grooming secrets anyone can use. CONTINUED >

The main character of Amy’s Hollywood-worthy Dopp kit, the industry term for a well-stocked grooming bag, is CIRCA 1970, the luxury face oil she created with longtime colleague-turned-business partner Barbara Guillaume after years of perfecting the skin of some of Hollywood’s biggest names. “I always advise guys to keep a Dopp kit or bag of essentials so they can easily and effortlessly groom themselves on a regular basis. A face wash, our CIRCA 1970 Face Oil, tiny scissors, beard trimmer, deodorant, some hair product and nail clippers. It may sound simple, but keeping skin moisturized and adding a bit of hair product can do wonders,” says Amy. This echoes her overall approach to skincare—keep it simple. She finds multi-step skincare routines and overspending on gadgets and procedures overrated. “I think most guys want a simple routine that they can stick to and that works.” CIRCA 1970 was conceptualized after Amy and Barbara couldn’t find the hero product they were looking for on-set. “After 20 years of experience between us both, we still couldn’t find that one product that made our jobs easier and simplified the process. I need to be efficient when I’m grooming, and there’s no room for error. That’s why we created CIRCA 1970 Face Oil, a one-and-done product that simplifies the skincare routine and takes the guesswork out. I used to need 3 or more products to get the same results as our face oil.” CONTINUED >

And it’s not just for the leading men in your life; CIRCA 1970 is a unisex brand. The face oil is made for everybody and benefits all skin types, whether you are headed to an awards show or the supermarket checkout line. Amy, who has access to anything, incorporates CIRCA 1970 into her own daily beauty routine. “I carry CIRCA 1970 Face Oil with me everywhere, especially when I’m traveling. I use it every day on myself and my clients to get their skin red carpet ready. It mixes beautifully with other products, SPF and makeup. It’s for anyone who wants super hydrated skin, helps ease the look of fine lines and helps fade dark spots. Our star ingredient, Bakuchiol, is a plant-based retinol alternative that improves texture, tone and radiance. Not only does it make the skin instantly look alive and radiant, but it also has a sensorial aspect to it that people respond to.” Turns out celebrities are just like us! They want uncomplicated, good-for-you products that work. With CIRCA 1970, Amy Komorowski and Barbara Guillaume have bottled their behind-the-scenes expertise into one luxurious, effortless step; making healthy, radiant skin accessible. Because everyone deserves to look and feel their best. circa-1970.com @circa1970beauty

CARRY

ARTICLE BY SAMANTHA SCHOENGOLD BERANBOM PHOTOGRAPHY BY BOLSTER MCKINLEY FOR LE SAC SULPICE

STYLE

Local tastemaker Pia Miranda has called Fairfield home for more than a decade. With her tenure in the design industry, she has honed her expertise and cultivated a distinct, refined aesthetic across interiors, textiles and wallpaper while working with luxury brands. Home base has given Pia the balance and inspiration she craves, the perfect juxtaposition of community and creativity. It’s allowed her to build her family, grow her career and, most recently, Fairfield has become the perfect place to carry her vision forward, launching her chic and highly coveted handbag brand, Le Sac Sulpice.

FLM: WHAT SPARKED THE IDEA FOR YOUR BRAND? WHAT MADE YOU FEEL THERE WAS ROOM FOR SOMETHING NEW?

Pia Miranda: I couldn’t find a bag that truly did it all. I wanted something lightweight, durable, and versatile enough to take from the beach to lunch, to the market, to the airport. There were plenty of totes, but very few that felt elevated without sacrificing practicality. I realized there was room for a beautifully designed everyday bag that people genuinely wanted to carry everywhere.

FLM: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE BRAND’S AESTHETIC? WHAT IS THE ETHOS BEHIND LE SAC SULPICE?

PM: Le Sac Sulpice is built around the idea that everyday essentials should be beautiful, functional, and thoughtfully made. We use

recycled nylon that’s handwoven by skilled artisans to create bags designed to last. Our aesthetic is effortless, timeless, and inspired by European coastal living—think classic stripes, fresh colors, and understated luxury.

FLM: WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME?

PM: The name comes from Rue Saint-Sulpice in Paris, where I lived while studying abroad. It was one of the most inspiring chapters of my life, and years later, it still represents creativity, travel, and beautiful everyday living. Naming the brand Le Sac Sulpice felt like bringing that inspiration full circle.

FLM: WHO IS THE QUINTESSENTIAL LE SAC SULPICE GIRL?

PM: She’s always on the go. She appreciates quality, loves to travel, values thoughtful design, and doesn’t believe she should have to choose between style and function. Whether she’s heading to the beach, the farmers market, school drop-off, or catching a flight, she wants one bag that can do it all.

FLM: DO YOU DESIGN WITH TRENDS IN MIND, OR DO YOU INTENTIONALLY AVOID THEM?

PM: I pay attention to trends, but I don’t chase them. I prefer creating timeless pieces that people will reach for year after year. My inspiration comes from travel, coastal destinations, architecture, textiles, and color. I want every collection to feel fresh without feeling fleeting. CONTINUED >

“I pay attention to trends, but I don’t chase them. I prefer FLM: WHAT DETAILS ARE YOU MOST OBSESSIVE ABOUT WHEN DESIGNING A BAG?

PM: Proportion, functionality, and comfort. Every handle length, pocket placement, strap, and proportion is considered. A bag has to look beautiful, but more importantly, it has to work beautifully.

FLM: IS THERE ONE DESIGN ELEMENT PEOPLE MAY NOT NOTICE AT FIRST BUT THAT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE?

PM: The weight, or rather, the lack of it. People are always surprised by how incredibly lightweight our bags are, especially considering how much they can carry. Once you’ve carried one, it’s hard to go back.

FLM: WHAT’S BEEN THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU’VE HAD TO SOLVE SO FAR?

PM: Launching a brand means wearing every hat, from product development and logistics to marketing and customer service. Learning to balance creativity with the realities of running a business has been both the biggest challenge and the most rewarding part.

FLM: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

PM: Classic with a relaxed European influence. I love crisp button-down shirts, striped sweaters, denim, linen, and pieces that feel effortless rather than over-styled.

FLM: WHAT ARE THREE ITEMS IN YOUR CLOSET YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT?

PM: A great striped shirt, vintage denim, and, of course, my Le Sac Sulpice tote.

creating timeless pieces that people will reach for year after year.”

FLM: ARE YOU SOMEONE WHO CARRIES ONE BAG FOR EVERYTHING?

PM: Absolutely. That’s exactly why I created Le Sac Sulpice. I wanted one bag that could seamlessly take me through the entire day.

FLM: WHAT’S ALWAYS INSIDE YOUR OWN BAG?

PM: My phone, sunglasses, eyeglasses (can’t live without!), wallet, Aquaphor, keys, gummy candy and a reusable water bottle. As a founder, there’s always a laptop tucked inside too.

FLM: WAS THERE A MOMENT WHEN YOU KNEW THE BUSINESS WAS GAINING REAL MOMENTUM?

PM: Our first major pop-up was that moment. Watching customers purchase bags, come back with friends, and seeing several styles sell out gave me confidence that the concept resonated. Since then, the momentum has continued to build through retailers, online sales, and word of mouth. CONTINUED >

FLM: ARE THERE NEW CATEGORIES OR COLLABORATIONS YOU’D LOVE TO EXPLORE? WHAT’S NEXT?

PIA’S FAIRFIELD FAVORITES Family Fun: Sasco Beach at sunset

PM: Definitely. We’re already working on expanding the collection with new silhouettes and seasonal colorways, and I’d love to explore travel accessories and meaningful collaborations with brands that share our values of thoughtful design and everyday functionality.

Sweat Sesh: Pure Barre Fairfield

FLM: WHICH IS THE ONE BAG IN THE COLLECTION THAT EVERYONE NEEDS THIS SEASON?

Date Night: The Sinclair

Me Time: A walk along Southport Harbor or breakfast at The Granola Bar

PM: The Biarritz Maxi Tote. It’s the definition of an everyday, everywhere bag—perfect for the beach, travel, errands, or simply carrying everything life throws your way.

Sweet Treat: Oggi Gelato

A LATE SUMMER/EARLY FALL TREAT

APPLE CIDER

sangria

46

H AP PY H OU R | FO O D + BE VE RAGE

As the season transitions into fall, it still features the warm, sunny days of summer but nights start to drop into the crisp temperatures. That leaves us in the limbo of wanting cool, refreshing drinks part of the time but also craving the deeper, spice-infused flavors of autumn. This recipe for apple cider sangria is the perfect blending of the seasons, leaving you feeling both refreshed and warmed through the deep flavors and interesting hints of spice. It’s a great drink to add to any dinner party, cocktail gathering, back deck after-hours get-together, or birthday bash. Here’s what you need to make the perfect mid-season cocktail to enhance whatever event you have planned.

ARTICLE BY ALLISON BANKSTON | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS:

• • • • • •

Combine all ingredients together and stir. Refrigerate for an hour or so (or longer) before serving. The drink can be enjoyed immediately, if desired, but the longer you let the ingredients sit and mix, the deeper the flavors will be. Giving it time to develop will make the drink more captivating and interesting.

1 bottle, standard size, of pinot grigio 2 1/2 cups fresh apple cider 1 cup club soda 1/2 cup ginger brandy 3 honey crisp apples, chopped 3 pears, chopped

NOTE: Regular brandy can be used, but ginger brandy gives it an extra kick of flavor.

Wear Colors That Truly

LOVE YOU A quick guide to finding flattering shades for life.

KNOW YOUR UNDERTONE Your undertone doesn’t change with the seasons. Check your wrist veins: blue means cool, green means warm, and unclear may be neutral. Cool tones love jewel colors; warm tones glow in earthy, rich shades.

CONSIDER CONTRAST Do you have high contrast between your hair, skin, and eyes (like dark hair and light skin)? High contrast looks great in bold, clear colors. Low contrast (like blonde hair and fair skin)? Softer, blended tones often suit you best.

THE WHITE VS. CREAM TEST Hold a white and ivory shirt near your face. If white flatters, you're likely cooltoned. If ivory glows against your skin, you're likely warm-toned. This quick test reveals your undertone with ease.

BUILD AROUND YOUR “WOW” COLORS Once you identify a few colors that make you look and feel amazing, use those as the base of your palette. These are your power colors—build your wardrobe and makeup around them!

PRO TIP You don’t have to follow rules perfectly. Your color palette is a guide, not a limit. Mix, match, and most importantly—wear what makes you feel beautiful.

I love family-style meals such as a crab boil this time of year. The food is the star of the show and a vital part of the tablescape – decor optional! Additional elements included here are a large paper-sail, light blue taper candles, a few large flowers, and heavy white rope as nautical accents. You can also use other elements such as large seashells, coral or seaglass. Use whatever you have on hand that nods to the sea.

Fill a large stock pot halfway with cold water. Season with lemon peels, bay leaves, black pepper, red pepper flakes, Old Bay Seasoning, and garlic powder. Bring to a boil and add crab legs, sausage, potatoes, and corn until cooked. Strain water and serve on a large galvanized tray, newspaper or parchment paper – enjoy your meal with guests, family style! Give each guest a bowl of garlic butter for dipping as well as lemons for squeezing (wrapped in cheesecloth and tied with twine to avoid seeds). Include special beverages and desserts such as a tiered lemon cake or frozen treat to beat the heat. For full instructions visit the blog at silvertoothhome.com/blog/crabboil. Enjoy!
